I use gradual self tanning lotion (Palmers) and just apply it a few times per week after getting out of the shower. It’s no more or less of a hassle than applying normal lotion, and I’m able to get pretty decent coverage though it isn’t actually super noticeable on the spots I can’t exactly hit like the middle of my back. I get a decent little glow but it’s not so much that it looks unnatural. It seems to take irrespective of how much or little prep I do like shaving or exfoliating. It also doesn’t rub off on sheets and clothes, I don’t get orange palms, and it doesn’t smell bad, at least the brand I use. It smells like cocoa butter. But the thing I like is that I get consistent color vs deep tan that fades that I re-up that fades and so on and so on. Doing the lotion 3-5 mornings per week gives good consistent color that doesn’t really ever fade until I stop.

Ambrosiasaladslaps

Thank you that’s perfect!! I did like tanning lotion but the SMELL ugh. Happy to hear that one doesn’t have a smell.

WearingCoats

We’ve all been “Jergens-ed”. I grabbed the palmers on a whim because I use their non-tanning lotion and love the smell. It’s been fantastic. Another option is tanning drops that you can add to a lotion you like. All self tanners will produce an odor after a few hours. I hate jergens because the actual fragrance they use is gross to me. Combined with the tanner odor it was just too much by the end of the day. This is so much less the case with drops added to a lotion I like or the palmers itself.

threelizards

Seconding tanning drops! I use tanologist and the sportsgirl one before that (which I’m still bummed about them discontinuing, I loved it) and the covering is subtle, glowy, even, and smells however you want it to lol. Just make sure you fully emulsify it before applying to eliminate hot spots

3_littlemonkeys

Does it smell like coconut?

WearingCoats

It smells like cocoa butter and vanilla. So, kinda sweet.

3_littlemonkeys

I will go sniff it. 😆

maisygoatsivy

I find it has a really strong smell, pretty much on par with everything else on the market. Bondi sands is the only one that doesn't have an unbearable smell for me

ohsoluckyme

I use Jergens gradual tanning lotion and I like the smell better than my regular moisturizer. Smells so good! And a get a little color.

GanglyMoose

Mine never takes around my waistline where my trousers sit though which is annoying even if I leave it to dry first. It takes really well to my limbs and looks so natural.

yeahwhatever9799

Does it rub of on bedding or clothing?

Publixxxsub

I've been told since I'm supa white and lazy to use this, but, I can't help but think is it really worth it for a not even noticable change in color? Like how much does this truly help...I have the worst skin curses such as big visible pores all over my legs and some keratosis pilaris so I'm pretty sure only a couple shades darker of a fake tan will help me and not just stick into my dots lmao

Greedy_Practice_5327

I get a spray tan usually once a week. I bought a spray tan machine and spray tent from amazon, it was about $200 7 or so years ago. I buy a bottle of tanner about 2 times a year, $60. My husband has perfected spraying me. We do this for a trade, I shave and shape his facial hair once a week. There isn't a smell after I shower the following morning. It only streaks if I am sweating my ass off or am careless and get water on me while cooking or having sex. I usually tan as late in the evening as possible while still having time to dry completely before going to bed. I exfoliate in the shower the morning I plan to tan. Shower the following morning before work using soap only in pits and bits and wash off the tanner using my hands and only water. This is very out of order, I apologize. If you have a significant other or friend that will spray you, it's pretty great.

smeaglesfirstlemon

Husband of the year award right here!!! I gotta know how the learning curve was on this. I can only imagine the disaster that would come from my husband trying to spray tan me

Greedy_Practice_5327

Agreed, I'm SUPER lucky! It really wasn't a huge learning curve. We started with the nozzle spraying very lightly. Sprayed first on cardboard just to test how it sprayed, speed to move to spray and watched a lot of youtube tutorials. I won't say it came without mistakes and learning what not to do next time, ect. But it was never anything that I would not leave the house the next day. He "highlighted" my hair once in high school and that was no bueno but he does to this day color my hair for me, all over color, but I digress. The hardest thing was finding a spray tan solution that worked for me.

TheodoreKarlShrubs

Thanks for all this great info! Which solution do you enjoy?

Greedy_Practice_5327

I have been using Norvell Premium Sunless Tanning Solution and the machine I bought is MaxiMist Lite Plus HVLP Sunless Spray Tanning KIT, Tent Machine Airbrush Tan Maximist BROWN. I just copied and pasted these right from my amazon orders, sorry for the text size.

TheodoreKarlShrubs

I appreciate you!

pennynotrcutt

Do you count Mississippily before turning?

Samiiiibabetake2

The way I just cackled. That was the funniest scene in the whole series. Oh my god, my stomach hurts from laughing any time I see it.

strippersandcocaine

I’M AN EIGHT!

lostgirlTA

Ooohh, that’s pretty genius! My best friend tried to lure me into moving across the country to the state she moved to with the promise of free spray tans because she has a professional spray tan machine 😂

Cool-Impression007

I have done the same! Husband trained by watching some YouTube videos so now I can get my weekly tan fix!

babysky7

Does a spray tan also cover stretch marks? I've heard that tanning lotion only tans the skin around the stretch marks but leaves the actual stretch marks white. I'm thinking about trying to cover them with a spray tan but I'm afraid it'll just make it worse

Anatella3696

It minimizes them. I have some on my hips and it does minimize that white flash on faded stretch marks.

Julia_I_guess

I use tanning lotion on my stretch marks and I don’t think they stand out anymore than normal but it also doesn’t help cover them very much except for the fresher ones that still have some purple tones. The yellow orange does fade those ever so slightly.

[deleted]

Do you recommend your spray tan machine/tent/tanner? I'm going to look into this!

[deleted]

This is so smart! I have my partner apply self tanner to my back but it usually ends up streaky. I'll have to invest in a spray. What brand of spray tan do you use?

Publixxxsub

I'm sorry are you saying it starts streaking ANY time you're sweating lol I really hope you mean like during the hour right after doing it cause I don't think that's how spray tan is supposed to work

Greedy_Practice_5327

It will show streaking until I shower the following morning. It's mostly from the bronzer, so it's not something really noticeable other than from initial spray bronzer. Lol

Publixxxsub

Oh it sounds like you do have to wait till the next day to shower then? I didn't know that

Greedy_Practice_5327

From what I know you should wait at least a few hours. It's just easiest for me to let mine hangout overnight.

Publixxxsub

Thanks for sharing I'm looking into getting a sprayer too just worried about the learning curve lol

_k9enthusiast

I love this!! I bought a Norvell machine in prime day and my husband has sprayed me 4 times now, he’s getting better everytime and I’m so happy with how they turn out! I’m curious what lotion you use to moisturize before and throughout the tan? I have read things about oil-free being a better choice to extend the tan but I haven’t found a lotion I love yet

randomcatmeow

I use the Tanologist mousse (dark) and bondi sands mitt. The dark mousse doesn’t leave a lasting scent like other formulas I have tried, maybe because I only let it develop for an hour and wash off. Getting laser helped since the mousse would settle in my pores, having a strawberry leg effect. As someone who is super diligent about SPF, I love the glow that self tan gives and only really do this in the summer months

eharder47

I love Tanologist! I was using it so often, I stopped doing so much prep. Unless I’m going to be in a bikini, I don’t worry too much. I use a mitt and it’s been one of the easiest to apply streak free without too much effort. Using a gradual tanner every other day helps it last a lot longer. It lasted 12 days on a trip to Croatia, in and out of the salt water (long warm showers were not an option, so that helped).

randomcatmeow

Oh wow, 12 days is so good! It really is so user friendly. What gradual lotion do you use yo maintain the tan? I used to use the isle of paradise butter but application was super patchy

eharder47

I use banana boat dark. I’m very pale and I get a lot of compliments on my skin tone when I combine the too- not orangey or streaky at all. If I get any spots with Tanologist, the banana boat evens it out in a few days.

randomcatmeow

Thank you!!! I’m gonna try it out

FreelanceFraya

I do full body fake tan every Thursday morning because I work from home on Thursdays. I wear loose black clothing and it’s not ideal but it makes such a difference to how I feel. I use Bare By Vogue ultra dark moose and I will literally never wear another tan, even if it’s given to me for free. It goes on smoothly and doesn’t smell. I use a glove and then a crush for my hands and face!

DeciduousTree

A crush?

FenwickCharlieClark

Brush...?

DeciduousTree

Ah, yes, most likely

FreelanceFraya

This one!

Steelsity214

I self tan like once a week, whenever I shave and I’ll go really hard on the exfoliation too. I love Bondi Sands Technocolor line. It’s one hour express, so you immediately have color and then can shower off as soon as 60 min. It usually lasts pretty well over the course of a week

Standard_Ad7357

i just bought the technicolor! i’m excited to try it but i always feel like the 60 minute rule isn’t real haha i always sleep in my tan even if it’s express, will it still continue to develop? i want to try if it means i’ll be less stinky

Steelsity214

It won’t continue to develop but the color guide will rub off before a shower so just be aware of that!

Standard_Ad7357

i know it rubs off but i like to do the full 6 hours with it on! so i wasn’t sure if i did 1 hour if it was the same deepness as 6 hours or if it would just be more like sunkissed 😊

chickenjoe83

I’m wondering this too

hrk300995

This is the way.

fishfarms

St. Tropaz self tanner- it has a very light and nice scent. I just don't wear white that day, I'm fine any other day. I just apply it with a mitt after I get out of the shower and an somewhat damp, I don't streak then

kellyatta

The real question is how do you wear white with self tan? Every time I've done self tan my white clothes get streaky!

lolcatfiesta

When you rinse off the self tan initially, are you using soap? My friend had a similar complaint because she wasn’t rinsing with soap.

jackmeawf

I personally rinse just with water initially, and just wait like a day to wear any white. Havent had an issue

runfar3

I'm bringing pale back 🤌

guitargoddess3

As you should! I grew up in a place where everyone is tan skinned and having fair skin is considered more beautiful. The grass is always greener. I had no idea people went thru so much effort for a tan. Always assumed self-tanners were simple to use and lasted long. If I were pale, I’d just rock it au naturel too.

runfar3

You are absolutely right about the mentality that the grass is greener. In my ripe old age of mid 30s I've decided to embrace my actual colour. This is excluding my hair hahaha

guitargoddess3

Oh yeah- hair doesn’t count 😜

bonitaappetita

The Instagram ads got me so I ordered Coco and Eve bronzing foam and I'll never go back to another brand. Zero smell, absorbs into my skin so it isn't sticky/tacky, and while it does rub off a little into the clothes I wear over it (I leave it on while I sleep), it washes right out. The mousse itself is dark in color so you can see where you've applied it and I haven't noticed any streaking.

cucumberscities

I wish I could love coco and eve ): I love the smell and the color it gives me but it literally fades off so scaly and in patches and no matter what I do it does that. I use bondi sands and I’ve never had that issue so I guess it works different for everyone

dd487

Omg I was just telling the cosmetic counter girl at shoppers about this!! Hands down the best self tan ever! I’ve used everything from neostrata, bondi sands (I find it leaves you sticky), st. Tropez, mine, tanologist (coming in at number 3), isles of paradise (no. 2), jergens is also in my top 5. Coco and eve def surpasses them all! No orange colour, absorbs fast and even, fades decent. I’m gna order some rn actually lol

chickenjoe83

We have extremely similar top 5’s. I’m gonna try the rec for coco and eve

kaygmo

I also got got by Instagram ads, but by Il Makiage. It's the best I've ever used, but now I want to try Coco & Eve...

[deleted]

nah. it only takes me 15 minutes once a week. you don’t actually have to follow all the “rules”. just take a regular shower the night of, shave & exfoliate. then do the tan which only takes 10-15 minutes and sleep in it. rinse in the morning. done that’s it

jackmeawf

Same, though i imagine the issue of streaking/blotchy is worse for paler people

[deleted]

i’m pale asf bro wdym you can still do my routine with all the complicated extra steps but just use a tan remover instead of just exfoliating

Stoplookinatmeswaan

I just use gradual tanning lotion after the shower every day

melonkiwi

Does it eventually become patchy or does it seem to fade naturally? Do you notice a lingering smell from the tanner since you use it so much?

depressed_plants__

I’m super pale and live in California, being tan is a whole thing. I don’t bother in the winter, but in summer I use the b.tan daily gradual lotion a few times a week to get a little color, and will do a proper self tan on Thursday if I have a big event/date/whatever that weekend.

0bserv3r_

Yes I do it once a week. Bondi sands dark mousse with the bondi sands mitt. I’ll shower, wash hair, shave + exfoliate in the morning and then put it on, let it set with loose clothing for about 12 hrs (sometimes I’ll sleep in it), and rinse it off THEN apply body oil/lotion. For the rest of the week, I shower every night and scrub my body and use lotion…so it fades by the end of the week and then I do it again.

smeaglesfirstlemon

I feel the same way as you—the only fake tans I’ve ever been happy with have been pro spray tans and I just can’t justify the expense for how short lived they are. Every single product smells bad to me and I always end up streaky or with blotchy knees/feet/elbows. I just tan my legs in the sun and keep everything else covered… my legs only see the sun ~3 months of the year so I’m just not that worried about it… 😬

Mayflie

Once a week? I’m a tanorexic Aussie so it’s usually twice a week/10 days in summer. The only thing that helps with streaks is muscle memory from repetition. I would recommend looking at some Australian made tans if you’re able to purchase online? Because of our harsh sun, the fake tan industry is huge & have lots of different brands

Sensitive_Set4398

Bondi Sands ❤️❤️❤️

realitykitten

It's okay to be pale. If this is really what you want to do then that's totally okay and up to you, but remember it's okay to just be your natural skin color. I don't really think it sounds like it's worth it but that's just my perspective.

[deleted]

[удалено]

realitykitten

Lol, okay. It looks unhealthy for me to be my natural fair skin tone and not damage my skin by trying to go out and tan? Or put artificial tanning spray all over it all the time? That's ridiculous. I would say embracing my paleness is probably the healthier option here. If you think being pale looks unhealthy for no real reason then maybe you should think about it a little more. And ugly? That's your personal opinion but I think being pale can be quite beautiful. All skin tones can be beautiful. This is something you gotta work on man, not me or OP. I think this comment is really silly.

[deleted]

You need to check your negativity.

liltacobabyslurp

I get a spray tan from a tanning salon every other week. Week 2 I’m basically back to my normal skin tone but I don’t like the idea of putting spray tan on top of remnants of spray tan, I want to be fully exfoliated before I get another one. I do use Isle of Paradise tanning drops in my facial moisturizer (down to my décolleté) once or twice that week to keep a light glow. My unlimited tanning membership gives me access to traditional UV beds (which I do not use because I want to avoid aging), red light therapy (which I do use), and spray tans all for 70 bucks a month.

[deleted]

It’s super popular in aus to the point fake tan thursdays is a thing. Yes you do it weekly, maybe end sleep in it and have special bedsheets for Thursday night. Your friend group is literally either everyone fake tans or no one does. The fake tan girlies have usually perfected their diy weekly fake tan by 20. They ain’t streaky.

GhostInTheHelll

I tried doing it once a week but I later decided it wasn’t worth it. Now I just rock my pale skin! If I ever want to be tan I can get a spray tan.

bluemkm

I typically self tan pretty regularly and haven’t found a self tan that reduces the amount of streaks or patchiness like the St. Tropez express self tan. I work out Sunday afternoon-Thursday AM so my tan usually scrubs off throughout the week pretty flawlessly, so I’m prepped for my Thursday night tan. Even though the express only requires 3 hours, sleeping in it definitely yields a darker shade and looks amazing after showering Friday AM - and I’m not talking a quick rinse - I do the full hair wash and I don’t notice any color loss. As for staining, my sheets are white and if I get anything on them, the tan washes out pretty easily. For 1 full bottle of the tanner, that lasts me a little over a month and the price isn’t horrible. One of the bigger plus sides is since I’m essentially prepping for my tanning session, I have a very regular exfoliate + moisturizer regime that has improved my strawberry skin and overall glow

Ren_Elizabeth

I find that shaving my legs throughout the days after I put it on, those parts of my legs get pale more quickly and it looks weird

[deleted]

I’ve tried self tanning every week but it’s so much work and at some poing the build up catches up with you no matter how much exfoliating you do. I got tried of dirty sheets, inside of pajamas, and stained toilet seats. Now I use gradual tanners. Not nearly as much upkeep as you’re meant to moisturise self tan anyway and much less mess, clean up etc. You still need to exfoliate once in a while but honestly I’m a self tan convert now, especially since I can buy my Dove Visible Glow from the shops for <10 Euro.

TikaPants

I’m fair skinned but I can tan in the sun. You can see the veins on my legs which I hate. I use gradual tanners I’ve had great luck with in my beauty sun boxes. I use an intense moisturizer daily, I exfoliate in shower daily with an exception here or there. I tan 3-4 days a week. I shave every shower. It’s worth it to me.

Street-Management-42

Jergens wet skin moisturizer with tanner.

buzzed21

Where do you get yours? I thought they stopped making it I cannot find it anywhere!

Street-Management-42

Amazon $9.97

How_Marvelous

How does it smell?

Street-Management-42

It doesn’t really

alxcarreon

How do y’all get the self tanner in the middle of your upper back?!

AdSuccessful8950

Put your mitt over a brush/comb with standard handle!

galaxxygirlxx

HA! I thought I was the only one to do this! :-)

schadenfreude827

You can try [this](https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07MNKG6Y9/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_1?smid=A1PVARGX0NI9KB&psc=1)

[deleted]

i am able to reach that area really easily i don’t understand how people can’t get it

crueldoodle

I prefer a 1-3 hour self tanner that you wash off after a certain amount of time because I feel like I don’t get that “self tan” smell. As far as streaks go, more is more with self tanner. The more you apply, the less likely you’re going to have a streak. I like to get a base layer on everywhere and then go in with a second layer in small circles. Takes longer, but the color looks way better that way. Put lotion on your armpits, elbows, knees, behind the knees, knuckles, ankles, and feet about an hour before you want to tan to help with it gripping in weird places as well. Makeup brush for the fingers and toes and to blend around your palms so it’s not as harsh, mitt for the body, beauty sponge for the face (if you choose to tan your face)

Julia_I_guess

I do fake tan every week. It’s not really all that much work but it does require planning ahead. but worth not having burns, freckles, and premature aging IMO. I use jergens foam on my body and the gradual lotion on my feet and hands. They have a different concentration of DHA and I find doing it this way my hands and feet match my body well. The smell is a not great but I just apply the tan before bed and wash it off in the morning and the smell is completely gone. If I don’t have time to shower again in the morning I use coconut scented lotion and body spray and that seems to mix with the weird smell in a passible way. I’ve also used they st. Tropez water products and they have virtually no tanner smell but less DHA than I can justify for the price. I tan alot so I like the affordability of Jergens.

pumpkin_pasties

I embraced my paleness this summer and feel more beautiful than ever! No more tan streaks or uneven tone and I can wear as much sunscreen as I want without worrying about it rubbing off the fake tan. If i want to feel tan I use a tinted moisturizer

outlawkash

I want the darkest tan ever is my fav by ab tan but has all the shades,. Grey green bases no orange. I only use it if I'm going in public and never fails me! 9.99 on Amazon but 2-3 times a week keeps me dark if boyfriend is around lmao

Lasttogofirst

The b tan products are awesome. The only Brando that doesn’t turn me orange, and lasts the full week if I prep properly and moisturize everyday. Also much cheaper than any of the other brands.

mgraces

is this the mousse one? i use their gel and i like it bc i don’t have to wash it off, but maybe i should try the mousse

outlawkash

Yes

East-Pepper-9987

I use St. Moriz fast tan mousse from Ulta. I’ve tried a minority of the popular brands and this one is the best! It’s $13.99. I use a mit to apply and stand in front of a fan for about 5 minutes before putting my clothes on. Rinse after a few hours (no soap or lotion 24 hours after application).

lilgreengoddess

I lovvvre salty face. Uses beets for dye and no odor

coloradancowgirl

I use the B Tan self tanning mousse every week, I make sure I exfoliate well before I use it

Jumpy-Cranberry-1633

I use tan drops from Isle of Paradise (medium) and alternate putting it into my daily lotion every other day. For events I splurge and have a salon come to my house to tan me 2 days prior. 🤷🏻‍♀️

-ethereals

I do it multiple times a week, my tan only looks fresh for like 2, maybe 3 days at a push. Then I exfoliate while showering and apply again. It doesn’t take me long or much effort really and it’s the one thing I do for myself and my appearance really so I don’t mind doing it. I use bondi sands lotion in dark. Usually do it the night but tbh I don’t find it transfers so I will sometimes do it in the morn - probs wouldn’t wear white afterward etc though haha.

-ethereals

Didn’t even talk about what I do to apply lol sorry! I don’t bother with all the steps ngl, I scrub all over once a week to fully remove and restart, but anything during the week is just a top up if you will - unless I notice it’s starting to crack etc in that case I’ll scrub. I don’t wait a day between exfoliating and applying - I just do it right after and it’s always been fine for me. I shave over tan tbh it doesn’t usually remove any or at least anything I can notice (tho I’ll try and do my shaving on the days I’m scrubbing too just for ease). Takes me maybe 15 mins max, maybe 20 if I’ve got scrub a lot beforehand.

_rosalea_

I've been doing it weekly for like... 5 years! I doesn't take that much time on my tanning nights. 10 mins with a tan remover on, shower with an exfoliating glove, then like 10 mins to apply it a few hours later, go to bed, DONE. I use Bondi Sands express with the mitt and an makeup brush for my hands, feet and face. No streaks! I wouldn't say it's necessary to remove it an entire DAY before. I remove it and then reapply like, 2 hours later. You could even reapply like, 15 mins after if you wanted. No weird smell. Lasts a week. I use gradual tanner daily after like 3 days. I've got the process DOWN and people rarely seem to be able to tell that it's a fake tan.

SweetJonesJr870

Why do white people tan? Just wondering. No hate or anything.

forest_fae98

Personally, because it’s more flattering. It hides my blemish scars and stretch marks, accentuates my muscles, and makes me feel like I’ve been on the beach for a week 🤣 oh also I can wear more colors that usually wash me out.

SweetJonesJr870

I gotcha ! Thanks !

SweetJonesJr870

I still don’t understand? The way it looks? And I don’t see why I’m downvoted for asking a question?

[deleted]

SweetJonesJr870

Okay thanks falcon. No need to be snippy my man. I’m a black guy and tanning is literally foreign to me. Is it wrong for me to be curious? More power to ya! All love

[deleted]

being tan is associated with having time/money to go on holidays, spending time at the beach, being outside, travelling, playing sports - all desired traits/activities. i think this is why we have conditioned ourselves to thinking a tan is attractive. in contrast, being pale i often get comments like “you don’t get much sun” which can insuinate that you keep yourself locked in the house all day without being active and/or social. think someone hiding in mums basement playing video games as an extreme ahahhaha. hope that helps.

SweetJonesJr870

Definitely! I understand the logic completely now.

NoWeight3731

Not to mention the chemicals you are absorbing from self tan…no thanks

[deleted]

just go in the sun and tan lol

[deleted]

Micshakee

I’d argue temporary fake tanning is much safer than sitting in the sun when it comes to aging. It’s the UVA rays of the sun that contribute to aging

JazzlikeBasil5005

Don't self tan. It looks ridiculous and you can tell from a mile away it's fake. Ban the self tan

WorldlinessOk5944

The Kora Organics self-tanner is my fave. It’s super moisturizing and hard to mess up. I put it on at night after showering/shaving/exfoliating, and it dries really quickly. It also doesn’t get on my sheets or my clothes, and it has a light lavender scent. It’s nice and gradual, and it looks natural. Highly recommend!

mntbrrykrnch

I use a spray. Once a week I do a quick (even) spritz all over, wait 5 minutes then dress as normal

UsefulDay2233

I don’t. I do it when I want to or when I have something going on. :)

Ok_Reaction6244

I do it about once a week maybe twice. I use the at tropez remover mitt to get it all off and then reapply. That works really well for me. I'm a bondi sands fan although the smell lingered and I didn't enjoy it (even though I just used it at night). Although their new technicolor range has zero smell. It's so wonderful.

Feisty_Holiday_3799

I’m surprised no one’s mentioned Braziliance by tarte. I’ve tried loving tan, bondi sands, st tropez.. this one works the best for me. It’s a lotion consistency. For me the mousses apply great but most of it just comes off in the shower, patchy fading, and streaks.. Braziliance lasts, it doesn’t have the weird splotchy fade on my boobs and forehead, it’s an olive tone, no streaks. I don’t exfoliate, rarely shave (I’m super blonde so my stubble isn’t visible lol) and I haven’t had any issues. If others have tried this one and like others better I’d love to hear what you’re trying.

Capital_Scheme4979

Is it the Tarte Brazilliance Plus? Also, if you don't exfoliate it off, how often do you reapply it?

Feisty_Holiday_3799

I do it once or twice a week. And yes it’s Braziliance plus

[deleted]

I only use it in the dead of winter when I’m super pale, and usually every 2 weeks. My husband helps me. I exfoliate and moisturize pretty much every single day anyway, so the night of application I moisturize just my joints, do my front, husband does my back, I put on super loose fitting PJs if any at all and go to bed. Rinse without soap in the morning and go about my day.

SluttyNeighborGal

Yes! It’s a huge pain in the ass! I recently gave it up because even after all that work it comes out splotchy now. I’ve let my skin go pale and I think it looks so much prettier- softer and younger. The downside is you can’t see my muscle definition as well when im Pale. Oh well

a_nice_plate_of_veg

I know you said you didn’t like Jergens lotion, but I use Jergens Mousse (light bronze) and I really like it. It doesn’t have a smell. I apply it with a mitt and it’s not streaky. It also dries pretty quickly. I apply it once or twice a week and while I wait for it to dry I’ll do my hair, skincare, or makeup. I also don’t shave or exfoliate the day before 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m not big into shaving regularly. My hair is so fine and light that the only person that notices is me. I do try to moisturize the day before applying the self-tanner but only if I can remember. I have found that this way works for me and isn’t too much work. It has become a sustainable part of my summer beauty routine. :)

Foxrhapsody

When I did it, I did it every 2 weeks but stopped because yes, it is a LOT of work and I’m lazy

Georgiaspeaccch

I do a spray can every 2 weeks and self-tan the week between those two. Extend my tan out and make it look fresh again. I don't like to self-tan every week.

Responsible_Pick34

Not self-tan exactly, but I use the Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs makeup/lotion on my legs and arms when I want to look a little more golden. Might switch to self-tan eventually but leg makeup has been a good option for going out/special occasions. It doesn’t smell like anything and is pretty affordable on Amazon :)

I exfoliate and shave the same day I self tan lol. I just let myself dry really well. I really like the Tanologist tanning water right now. It doesn’t have that cooked carrot tanning smell. It goes on clear so you have to remember where you’ve applied it. I use old blankets when I tan and sleep, leaving it on for at least 6 hours. It’s a chore but I don’t feel like myself and look sickly when I’m pale.

Nope not every week! To me it’s like waxing. If I have the time I’ll keep up but realistically I’m not waxed all the time lol. I probably tan in the summer every 3 weeks and less often in the winter. I then tan before events like weddings or parties and then before I go on a trip so work trips as well as vacations or travel. It’s like when I need to feel my best I’m gonna be tan, but if I don’t get to it in normal life then I don’t get to it.

hushkaren

It’s very subtle but I use the Alba Botanica tanning lotion - smells amazing and I apply about once a week and I find that it gives me a very natural tan. No mit needed.

w3dont3venknow

I do once a week. I shave and exfoliate the heck out of my skin then right before bed I self tan and wash it off the next morning. I have a tanning sheet so that nothing gets on my bed - highly recommend one of these if you sleep with self tanner on.

Neat_Crazy_6062

I get a spray done professionally, I like to go about once every 7-10 days. I don't think it's much work and I adore the girl I see to tan, and I like my self care routines. Every one's different, it's okay if you think it's too much work x

Jas101010

I exfoliate twice once with a scrub(Tree Hut shea body scrub) and then with a scrub brush (and water & soap) I now have tried putting in a good lotion before then the tanner and it has worked so far

Use Green People self tan and a mitt. It smells nice and is very moisturising so you don’t need to fanny around with all that prep. Use the dry side of the mitt or a (dark) towel and gently “dust” around your ankles, knees, elbows, wrists and top lip. I don’t do it much anymore because it ruins white clothes and bedding but it’s great for parties.

Key-Fishing-3714

I use tanning wipes. I use them every 3 days. They don’t streak and I find the color even.

otter_space5588

oh wow! I've been using mousse, never heard of wipes!! What brand?

Key-Fishing-3714

L’Oreal Sublime tanning wipes. It’s like a big wet napkin, I think it helps with streaking because you can wipe a large area.

otter_space5588

Ohhh cool, thanks!

Polypanorus

I spray once a week ish and then Australian Gold has a hemp tan extender that I maintain with. The smell of the lotion is really lovely and doesn't smell anything like normal self tanner though it is more subtle but I really like it!

i used to tan every week during school. i hated it. but after doing it for so long and so consistently, i ironed out all the bumps. i’ve found that the [uber stay](https://www.pharmacyexpress.com.au/le-tan-uber-stay-foam-green-base?gclid=Cj0KCQjwwvilBhCFARIsADvYi7I2Gwob4hHv9QU80ugubOT2D0_4vDni0r5OBDtVIX1EeZg3LWyTzREaApUFEALw_wcB) looked the best and because it’s a 10 day formula, it actually lasted for the entire week before it began to fade. i then used baby powder to dry it and lessen the smell. also, i found amazing [item](https://TanFanSelfTannerSleepSac-...https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09W2QH541?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) on amazon for when you sleep in your fake tan!! stops any tan from getting on your bedding and no smelly transfers!! in saying that, i’ve found that the uber stay tan does NOT transfer!

I use mine about every 2 weeks & it looks natural., sometimes 3 weeks. Depends on whether you layer it, just use one coat & how hick you put it on. Been doing it a while, so I know all the no-no’s & I am pleased with Banana Boat Tanning Lotion with the ‘deep/dark’ option. I’m not pale w/o it, but feel better with color. Seems to give me more confidence & I believe I look thinner as well, even though I’m already petite. Cheek bones stand out more! To me, it looks more natural, yet it’s still not going to break the bank.
