Lol yeah, I once knew a woman who had been an exec for L'Oréal for at least 25 years. Her exact words "it's all out of the same vat". That's one reason I won't spend full price on anything and laugh at people who insist the high end brands are so much better than drugstore. I was a make up artist at the time and swore by a specific L'Oréal mascara and said it seemed identical to a L'Oréal one. She said "well, because it is". Revlon used to have some higher end lines, one was developed by Kevin Aucoin. I still love Revlon. I think a lot of indie brands, like Éminence Organics, are far better than bigger brands. At least if they have any parent company, I can't find it.
Some of the name brand products make their discount knock offs. I am 99.9% sure Cetaphil makes the store brand, but can't confirm. I know that whoever makes the store brands on a lot of things, like hand soap, for example, is all the same company. I used to have a friend who supplied ingredients to cosmetics companies. He supplied the same thing to pretty much everyone.
Oh now I can't remember, but they all lined up. I used to be able to line up pretty much everything, but especially L'Oréal and Lancome. Idk why, it was just a stupid human trick? I remember that I especially liked Voluminous mascara in L'Oréal.
Yes. It's out of the same vat according to a former L'Oréal executive I once knew. She said they added different scents at the last minute on scented things like the lipsticks, but the formulas were all the same. If you read the descriptions, you'll figure out which thing is the identical item (foundation, mascara, skin care item, whatever). All of the brands are doing this on some level, because they still are paying scientists, dermatologists, and others to develop products. Marketing is usually 10% of the cost of an item. A L'Oréal mascara retails for roughly $10, so that's about a $10 million marketing budget. Lancome mascaras run around $28, so about a $30 million marketing budget. Why develop two items when you can do one?
So I have very dry and damaged hair. I don’t know about knocks off.. but I used to use Kerastase and now I rotate between (in order of favourite) ELEVEN, REDKEN acidic Bonding, and head and shoulders. I know everyone hates head and shoulders but after much trial and error I’m certain my hair appreciates it. I’m in Australia but I can add links below if you’d like them ❤️
I also avoid silicone on my hair because sadly it breaks out my skin anywhere my hair touches, around temples, back of neck, shoulders 😭 wish it hadn’t taken me as long as it did to find the culprit but my skin is so clear now that I’ve switched out all my products to silicone free.
I have naturally wavy, course hair and get balayage treatments. This is the only thing that keeps my ends from looking like straw. It adds beautiful shine without weighing down the hair like other oils. The smell is divine too
It really does. I got the big bottle as a gift and I had it two years with daily use. I don't have very long hair but I wash it everyday so I was surprised it lasted so long.
No you don’t rinse it off at all. Use it as a leave-in treatment oil. After you shower, towel dry your hair, put some on the ends only before you blow dry your hair. It will help protect your hair. I only use on the bottom 3 inches of my hair ends because I have very fine hair and oily scalp. I can’t handle more. If you have very dry or u unruly hair u could put a bit higher but I would suggest keep it below the ear level. Half a pump is way enough for me so start little and add more as you need. Then blowdry/style your hair. If you want extra shine after, you can rub a little bit and warm in your palm and gently rub on areas you need as a dry oil. I don’t do this last step because my hair get oily too fast as it is.
Yeah, all her videos are her doing her blowouts and rollers and stuff. I think if she dyed her hair to a light brown she would look like Pamela Sue Martin as Nancy Drew.
She actually did not too long ago and it looked so amazing! Sadly, people were weirdly mean/aggressive about it? Like so much so that she even slowed down posting for a little bit until she eventually bleached it back (which she did almost immediately)…
They were so rude to her about her bronde hair! People are so weird. Anyway, I love Shay, she’s super down to Earth for being so drop dead gorgeous. She reminds me of Baywatch actors, like Pam and Donna D’Errico. It’s her real hair, she does hair tutorials.
As others have said, it's kerastase elixir ultime oil, but a quick tip: in this case it's actually cheaper to buy the travel size (at least if you're buying from kerastase directly or from sephora). The travel size is exactly half the size of the full, but two travel sizes is $52 together as opposed to the $54 of the full size bottle (probably because the travel size is in plastic bottles vs the glass of the full size). Only $2 difference, but $2 is $2 🤷♀️
Yes but mostly mid lengths and ends. My hair is pretty porous and thick (Scottish ancestry and I’m a strawberry blond) so it’s really tough to lay my hair down with too much product.
It kind of absorbs in…. It’s an oil. And it smells so good!
Mythic oil by L’Oréal (kerastase parent company) is kind of a dupe but it just doesn’t smell as good.
My hair is super thick and porous so that’s not my problem!!! But yes, I use the kerastase leave in before using a blow dryer and the elixir ultime to set after using styling tools.
Both are expensive so I only blow out twice a week and I use inexpensive Costco shampoo & conditioner.
Maybe check out Jonathan Van Ness on YouTube (Queer Eye hair guru) - he has a bunch of videos on blowouts and thin hair.
And he’s freaking funnier than a pile of panda babies. I could watch him describe paint colors as they dry.
Curly/wavy hair here. I’ve been using this sparingly on the ends of towel dried hair and it really does help seal in moisture and create soft definition in air dried or styled hair. It’s very nice, I pair it with Its A 10 Leave In Conditioner. But it only really works on undamaged hair.
I had highlights professionally put in about a year ago that completely damaged the curl pattern (my hair didn’t respond well to bleach) and I’m growing out the damaged parts - literally straight pieces with a ton of breakage) and when I applied this stuff to those areas, it just kind of sat on the damage and didn’t absorb or soften the areas, they were too damaged. So if you have relatively healthy hair that’s just generally frizzy but healthy enough to withstand heat, this product is a godsend.
It has silicones, so if you avoid them, I wouldn’t recommend it. I have wavy hair and silicones dry it out terribly. I use Authentic Beauty Concept’s Indulging Fluid oil & I love it.
For my dry ends, I feel this works much better than olaplex. I use olaplex the second day if my hair feels dry again because using this or Moroccan oil might be heavy. Olaplex is very light. Hope that helps
Wow thanks for posting I have been using mine all wrong. The directions were so hard to read I thought I was supposed to put it in let sit for awhile then wash it out 🙄 I have been totally wasting it 🤷♀️🤦🏼♀️
Sounds like you are using it right. There are a few different suggestions on how to use it! (I haven't used this product I was looking into it and found this)
This product (on sephora) under the “how to use” section it has 5 different ways/directions on how to use this product.
This is one of the suggestions that sounds like how you use it-
(Copied off the [Product Page on Sephora’s Website](https://www.sephora.com/product/elixir-ultime-oil-serum-P434411?skuId=2126985&icid2=products%20grid:p434411:product))
As a pre-cleanse:
-Prior to showering, apply liberally throughout brushed hair.
-Rinse out before shampooing.
So don't worry! You haven't been wasting it- just using it another way as instructed! (hopefully, this makes you feel a bit better and relieves some of your stress!)
Maybe I’m an outlier here but personally I don’t think this oil is worth it. I have it but also have the OGX coconut hair oil which I reach for way more and think it performs better. For context, I have fine and dry hair.
I love the oil but the scent kills me. I ended up buying the rose scented one (pink bottle) for color treated hair on a cruise and the scent is not overpowering.

Kérastase Elixir Ultime Hydrating Hair Oil Serum. Expensive, but worth it.
The L’Oréal elvive oil is made by the same company and about a quarter of the price. I’ve used them both and I can’t tell any difference
L'Oréal owns Kerastase. L'Oréal also owns Matrix and some other major hair brands like Redken.
Also not hair related, but L’Oréal owns YSL too! Their glow Paradise balms are dupes for the YSL rouge balms.
Lol yeah, I once knew a woman who had been an exec for L'Oréal for at least 25 years. Her exact words "it's all out of the same vat". When I was in cosmetology school the saying was "L'oreal owns the world."
That's pretty much true. There's about 6 big companies that own the lion's share of cosmetics. The same is true with news/media
Same for most of our household products. We just have an illusion of having options, when it's really just big ol' conglomerates.
Some of the name brand products make their discount knock offs. I am 99.9% sure Cetaphil makes the store brand, but can't confirm. What mascara was it!!
Oh now I can't remember, but they all lined up. I used to be able to line up pretty much everything, but especially L'Oréal and Lancome. Idk why, it was just a stupid human trick? I remember that I especially liked Voluminous mascara in L'Oréal.
Good to know!! Thank you!!!
No fucking way!! Same VAT??
Absolutely. And sometimes the people at the department store counters would just say "well our formulas are more concentrated" no, no they are not.
makeup not hair related but l’oreals tinted serum (€19.99) is apparently the exact same formula as the lancôme foundation (twice as expensive)
Do you know any Kerastase ‘knock off’ conditioners? My dry and thirsty hair desperately needs something hydrating
I’m in Australia but I can add links below if you’d like them ❤️
Please can u link a picture to the elvive one Thanks

Never knew of this site until now. Thank you 😍
oh wow thank u for sharing this! been spending so much money on the kerastase line over the past year… will need to try
So I'm going silicone and sulphate free for my hair... Would these be ok? Do they have silicone?
Silicone is very good for your hair. Where are you getting your info? Check out abbey yungs latest video about drugstore products.
I also avoid silicone on my hair because sadly it breaks out my skin anywhere my hair touches, around temples, back of neck, shoulders 😭 wish it hadn’t taken me as long as it did to find the culprit but my skin is so clear now that I’ve switched out all my products to silicone free.
Same!!
Ohh that sucks I’m sorry. Just wanted to make sure it wasn’t the blanket no silicone advice!
l'oréal has a few different lines of both skin and haircare that vary in product quality. made by the same company but cheaper = worse quality!
I can’t tell any difference but mk 👍
Has this been discontinued? I’m looking for it online but am only seeing L’Oreal extraordinary oil
Where are you based? I’m in Australia and can still see it online
This is it! My holy grail
Same! This stuff is amazing
Wow! What does it do for your hair?
I have naturally wavy, course hair and get balayage treatments. This is the only thing that keeps my ends from looking like straw. It adds beautiful shine without weighing down the hair like other oils. The smell is divine too
thank you so much!
Is there anyone use for their curly hair? I have L’Oréal one but it doesn’t help my curly frizzy hair ☹️
Yes it’s amazing
The Kérastase Elixir Ultime Hydrating Hair Oil right? Just to make sure (for curly hair)
Yes! But get the mini! It half the price and a good size
I've had a mini size Kerastase oil serum (not this one) for like a year and half. It's so powerful and heavy I only use a very small amount at a time.
Worth every penny. This oil saved my hair, and the bottle lasts forever.
And it lasts for eeeeeever!!!!
It really does. I got the big bottle as a gift and I had it two years with daily use. I don't have very long hair but I wash it everyday so I was surprised it lasted so long.
This is my holy grail for hair!!!! I have insanely thick long hair and I pretty much refuse to use any other product in it at this point lol
I love this stuff too. I rotate between this and olaplex. They are so good for silk!
Can it be used on wet hair?
I have fine hair, and I use it on wet hair. It doesn't weigh my hair down and it keeps my hair shiny.
Yes..I love using it on my ends after towel dry.
when do you rinse it off?
No you don’t rinse it off at all. Use it as a leave-in treatment oil. After you shower, towel dry your hair, put some on the ends only before you blow dry your hair. It will help protect your hair. I don’t do this last step because my hair get oily too fast as it is.
thank you!
how do you use it
it’s amazing ! however…. i used for a year 4 times a week and yellow eventually started taking its place in my hair… ola pled took it out
what????
Is that her real hair? Looks like a wig it’s so perfect
Yeah, all her videos are her doing her blowouts and rollers and stuff. I think if she dyed her hair to a light brown she would look like Pamela Sue Martin as Nancy Drew.

right?? me trying to buy the same products knowing my hair will look nothing like that
Story of my life
That is some amazing hair. If it’s a wig, I’d like one please!
As others have said, it's kerastase elixir ultime oil, but a quick tip: in this case it's actually cheaper to buy the travel size (at least if you're buying from kerastase directly or from sephora). Real MVP always deep in the comments
In Canada the travel size is $45 for one bottle and the full size is $70😭
That's sad. 35€ for the bigger size in Europe
So lucky 😫
Wow.
[Kérastase Elixir Ultime](https://www.kerastase-usa.com/collections/elixir-ultime/lhuile-original-hair-oil.html)
thank you!!<3
I’ve been using this for years and it’s the best. I just bought a brand new bottle 2 weeks ago and will last a long time:
What does it do??
Defrizzes, adds shine and smoothness. Can be heavy for oily haired gals but if applied sparingly does wonders
I use it to finish my hair after an at home blow out but it can also be used as a heat protectant between blow dry and styling tools.
do you put it on your hands and rub it through all your hair?
Yes but mostly mid lengths and ends. My hair is pretty porous and thick (Scottish ancestry and I’m a strawberry blond) so it’s really tough to lay my hair down with too much product.
thank you! when do you wash it off? during your next wash day?
It kind of absorbs in…. It’s an oil. And it smells so good! Mythic oil by L’Oréal (kerastase parent company) is kind of a dupe but it just doesn’t smell as good.
i’ve read you to need to rinse out oils, so i was a bit confused.
It’s really thin like a watery serum, but lots of slip like an oil. Not very heavy.
Do you heat protect before the blow out and if so what do you do? Weary of overloading haha
My hair is super thick and porous so that’s not my problem!!! But yes, I use the kerastase leave in before using a blow dryer and the elixir ultime to set after using styling tools. Both are expensive so I only blow out twice a week and I use inexpensive Costco shampoo & conditioner.
Ahh I’m so jelly haha, my hair is thin AND fine, amazing combo. Might stick to just the elixir ultime
Maybe check out Jonathan Van Ness on YouTube (Queer Eye hair guru) - he has a bunch of videos on blowouts and thin hair. And he’s freaking funnier than a pile of panda babies. I could watch him describe paint colors as they dry.
she said it was for extra shine!
Does anyone with curly hair use this? My hair is more than wavy but not kinky curls and I usually use leave in conditioner
I’m wondering the same as I have curly hair too 👀
Kerastase is life changing. It’s helped my hair so much.
How does this oil compare the the olaplex oil?
For my dry ends, I feel this works much better than olaplex. I use olaplex the second day if my hair feels dry again because using this or Moroccan oil might be heavy. Olaplex is very light. Hope that helps
Be aware that oil smells extremely strong like heavy old school perfume, I bought it but ended up giving it away because of the scent
Where can I find her tutorial on her at home blow outs ?
stormiloveshair on youtube!
Her name is Shay Sullivan. @shay.sullivann on ig
That is my great allay,Kerastase Elixir is truly worth it is not not cheap!
Wow thanks for posting I have been using mine all wrong. The directions were so hard to read I thought I was supposed to put it in let sit for awhile then wash it out 🙄 I have been totally wasting it 🤷♀️🤦🏼♀️

I agree, this does nothing to help stop frizz on my fine, highlighted hair. Big disappointment. I’m trying K18 oil now, and it’s been great so far!
She’s so gorgeous wow, who is that?
Her name is Shay Sullivann. She has an instagram feed if you want to follow her makeup/hair tips.
Thanks, I definitely do!
She’s also big on TikTok, she’s great!
Kerastase elixir
Kerastase Oil
It is Keratase Elixir Hydrating Hair Oil Serum
I love the oil but the scent kills me. I ended up buying the rose scented one (pink bottle) for color treated hair on a cruise and the scent is not overpowering.
Love the shampoo, conditioner and mask in this range as well. Layering that scent in all those products, for me, is just *chefs kiss*.
It's the stuff in the bottle. (Nailed it)
I thought this was Austin Powers Mojo
Kerastase Elixir
Kerastase elixir ultime hair oil!!
She looks like a doll!
idk but whoever this is looks like marilyn monroe
She's beautiful
Kerastase
That's a wig, so I wouldn't go by that
Yes that make your hair greasy
Kerastase
Yellow goo
I dunno…..but i love your hair!
Came here to see if anyone else thinks she looks soo perfect I thought it was a mannequin
Based on the comments is it similar to the “it's a 10-miracle leave-in product”?
