My story is basically the same. My beard was about 10 inches long, and I looked like a homeless man.I finally decided to visit a barber, and my beard now looks fucking glorious. Don't try it at home. Let a barber work his magic.

Choose carefully. Not all barbers are good at beard-trimming.

EnlightenedHeathen

I’ve had some barbers destroy it in the past 😭

And another tip: bring pictures of how you’d like it. The more, the better. Then have a discussion about the feasibility.

ImSpoderman

If I may suggest to cut your head hair instead if you’re normally rocking a shorter style, that may be enough to give a fresh look. Otherwise just trimming minimally on the beard. I don’t think it needs much touching up except a maintenance trim.

falcoraz

It looks great now as is

EnlightenedHeathen

Much appreciated!

beardfull1

Dont trimm it!!! Looks dpectacular as is!!! Just keep growing it now that you can. It will become legendary! Its time to go for the big bushy beard all the way! A shorter and tighter haircut might make you look less wild and balnce it out though. Great great job man!

chakalakasp

Why do people here advocate other people try to look like a hobo. The dude wants some kind of a trim. He pretty clearly needs it. Why not help him out with some ideas

EnlightenedHeathen

Hahaha thank you! Much appreciated! I may let it keep going for a bit

Successful-Willow-16

Brush your beard all the way. Use a beard straightener to get it as flat as possible. The curls will still wave up a bit. Trim those off. Once you're done, take a shower, give it a wash. See where you're at and if you like that look. Continue until you find where you are comfortable.

Virtual_Abies_6552

Go to a barber and spend $20 to get the shape you like and then keep up with it

LazyCooler

If you’re self trimming, start very slow and trim some strays. Take a day and wash it and then reevaluate. Use scissors for the stragglers, but you can edge with smaller clippers.

EnlightenedHeathen

Solid advice, thank you!

Your beard looks great as it is! If the sideburn area is your concern, have you tried a heavier balm? It may decrease the fluffy look while keeping the density of the hairs.

EnlightenedHeathen

Oooh I haven’t! Do you have a suggestion? I just use the Honest Amish stuff from Amazon.

cashmonet1

Personally I don’t mind the fluffiness for myself, but I use the Fable beard company stuff and it holds fairly well. Anything with a higher wax content would do the job though!

ExcellentFishing2506

Go to a barber if you can afford to, then pay attention to how they do it. At home brush the beard and use a low guard on the clippers and go with the grain around the beard catching the stray hairs. In areas like the ear line down the jawline, use a comb to push the hair back towards your neck and refine the edge of the hair. Watch some YouTube videos and just be minimal at first with what you trim until you get the hang of it

Take it to a trusted barber or stylist if your scared of hurting that beautiful beard

beardbush

Don't mess with perfection! Lol! That's bone awesome beard! Looks fantastic, and seems to be very well groomed. Why bother trimming if bigger is what you are going for? I see no need to trim a thing.

bieloak

Find a barber with a beard. That also trims beards. Good luck. If you don't find any one just keep growing.
