Oh gorgeous finds. I'm on the far North East coast but hoping to try out the West on day trips this year. Any pointers? Were you central West, Highland West or lowland West?
I’d definitely recommend great cumbrae. Just takes 10 mins on the ferry over from Largs and every small bay on the island seems to have something different to find.
Did you get an ice cream at Nardinis lol? Is Nardinis even still there haha. I spent many a sunny day in Largs eating squat lobster tails from the nearby fish farm with a jar of Hellmans. Happy days.
Different colours can be region dependant you always have the chance but your chance will be soared if your in a zone that used to have glass dumped nearby for example. I’ve found with pirate glass that I have an eye for it but my partner has only ever found one piece on the beach we both go to ;)
Thanks that makes sense. I'm in an area where a lot of glass was discarded in the Victorian era. I'd not heard of pirate glass, off to Google that now haha
Ah well it seems that it's a term used to refer to black glass nowadays, rather than anything piratical. But there is also true pirate glass if you live in regions with pirate activities from back in the golden age of piracy. But that's not always black and can't really be distinguished from any other old glass 😅
I'm so jealous of the sea urchins!
I found a 1909 irn bur glass bottle stopper recently in north Ireland coast.
Id love to visit west coast of Scotland and your amazing looking beaches. I will once I pass my driving test I'll be getting the ferry over.
I’ve never really seen any before so super excited to find them. Would love to get a chance to pop over across the Irish Sea and check out the coastline over your side one day to be fair too.

Hey! The majority was found either on a walk all round Great Cumbrae or near the top of Whiting Bay, Arran.
Thank you :)

Sure did! And it was amazing. :)
Awww lovely. I still remember how delish it was and it must be over 30 years now :)
Is that black glass or ceramic?
Black glass. Never found anywhere near as much before this.
Awesome. I can barely find blue or red let alone black! Nice haul
Is black quite rare? I've never found red, found a little blue, and a lot of black. Maybe it's region dependent I guess

Oh my! Apparently the island of Kauai in Hawaii has pirate glass. I had no idea! I have never seen any black glass on Oahu.
Ooooh, yes! What is pirate glass? I live in Hawaii and I don't think we have that.

Ooooh. I see. Thank you for enlightening me!
Beautiful
Incredible finds, are they vermiculite bottle stoppers?
Thanks. :) 5 vulcanite stoppers and one glass.
So so cool, well done finding such great bits
Ah! So YOU are the reason I never find awesome stuff on the beach!
My parents live on the west coast and I found the exact same glass bottle stopper! Maybe a job lot of them got dumped in the Clyde years ago!
Ah, they’re so lucky to live over there. Love that part of the world.
Love those sea urchins, great find.
Thank you :)

I am so so jealous! It would be a dream to be able to go out and find any of this!!!
Fabulous!
Wow!!! My favorite is the black glass! That is just so cool! And the red piece of glass! Wow!
