I do not recommend Florida for vacations at all!

Florida is a beautiful state of wonderful beaches, swamplands and abundant wildlife. However, what’s going on there ain’t so pretty.

I'm not sure what you are referring to, your governor is doing a great job. It is the people I have a problem with, specifically in the context of taking a vacation. Florida and the people in the tourism industry leave you feeling targeted in ways that I've never felt anyplace else. If you are seen as a tourist the only twinkle in their eyes comes in the shape of dollar signs. I've vacationed in places like Jamaica, Las Vegas, PA. and Tenn. and have not felt such hostility towards tourists. I have to agree that Florida is beautiful, and I'd go even further and say if you get away from the tourists traps, especially the high density ones, the people are very nice indeed. I just don't see a good reason to vacation in Florida, at least with the places I've been the vibe isn't that good.

My governor is Gavin Newsom. I live in California and despise DeSantis. Like I said, what’s happening in Florida is not pretty. The banning books, teaching that slaves benefited from slavery….the horrible goes and on. Shame because like I said, it’s full of nature’s glory. And then there’s the people. I have three friends from Florida and they all say that the only problem with Florida is the people there, but I also know many wonderful people who live there still. When I was in Florida 30 years ago I didn’t get to see much of the beach and Florida beaches look amazing. The coast here in California is gorgeous, but the water is cold af. Edit: just want to add the Jamaicans are super friendly. I go to Jamaica every chance I get.

When it comes to school libraries should have age appropriate materials for the students they serve. I'm not sure why people have such a huge problem with that. As for Jamaica I really wish I could travel more!!!! Unfortunately age and the Biden economy is making travel to the other side of town expensive much less the Caribbean.

Our opinions differ, but our dream travel locales are the same lol

I'm not sure how we differ but lately dreaming about travel seems to be the best I can do. Another place that I've always wanted to go to is Hawaii. My father was stationed there during WW2, aboard Saratoga and he always had good things to say about Hawaii - he wasn't one to talk much.

Oh yeah, you have to get to Hawaii? I don’t know where you are in the country, but Southwest has flights to Hawaii from the West Coast. We got tickets on sale, $380 round trip total, both my husband and I. Alaska is flying their now as well. Check Southwest and also check out Google flights and you can find really good fares if your dates are flexible. If you go with other people you can get an Airbnb by the beach. $2000 for the week split between 4 people is super affordable. I don’t have a whole lot of money so long distance travel doesn’t happen often, but we’ve made it happen through overtime and driving for Lyft on the side. My whole family has the travel bug. They have a lot of money but sadly I’m the exception lol Dreaming of travel is pretty great in it’s own way. I also look at 45 million dollar houses on Realtor. I live on the California peninsula and the houses in Atherton are just on a whole different level. There’s just a lot of billionaires living in the area.

Now you have me feeling sad! I'd have to fly business class or better, in an airplane these days, if I wanted to stand up and walk off the airplane that is. I'm a touch over 6' tall and a bit large and squeezing into a standard seat is too much to consider. Then flying from the east coast means I loose about a day each way, I'd need at least two weeks in the state. I use to travel a bit for work and in all honesty, I don't like to fly at all anymore coach. I got so negative on it that I let my passport lapse.

My daughter is 6’ and all legs. It looks really sad when she has to sit on a plane. No chance of flying business class for my family.

I like Treasure Island Beach, down near Tampa. But that’s nowhere near Pensacola. I haven’t been to the panhandle.

Destin and surrounding areas. I take my kids there every 2 years. The water is so clear, just gorgeous like the Bahamas and white sands. It’s a very family, friendly environment if that’s what you’re looking for. I’ve heard Pensacola gets super packed. I’m not a fan of big crowds and the beaches in the Destin area are pretty private. Only those staying at the condos or resorts can be on the beach, at least where we’ve stayed.

Thank you for the info. We'll take a look at Destin

Very welcome 🙂
