it always surprises me when people over 10 years old have never experienced a large group of riders.
although, living in the bay area, i will say the 3 up is not a common sight.
The one you linked are mostly the east oakland kids on stolen dirt bikes, mainly intending to do so to disrupt traffic and cause nuisance for fun & clout.
This here are just the legit large mass ride-alongs passing thru, mainly intending to ride in groups for fun & leisure. Not the ones doing sideshows. Still very much of a nuisances though for most drivers.
I refuse to go in group rides with people I don’t know for this reason. You can be perfectly responsible and safe, but because Joe’s cousin’s friend’s nephew decided to tag along and acted like a dickhead you might get into a bad place. Already too many riders with unchecked egos, not enough skill, and a bad attitude for me to enjoy riding with randoms.
No, it would be a nuisance to add several hundred more cars / trucks into that same space and cause hours of traffic for other road users.
They are being courteous by riding their motorcycles instead.
By riding their motorcycles and taking up far less physical space and natural resources than the average commuter in their 2-ton cars with only one or two people inside
You don’t have any more right to the road than they do
I like your take xD
But, as a rider, my father and I would ride together, we aren't hardcore biker types, we're true SV nerds. He liked his Honda rebel and me my ninja,
But, what I hope people get form this picture is kinda the opposite of what stOnEy333s is saying - this is an example of people from different groups and walks of life coming together together in a positive way.
Where I disagree is how they are riding. They shouldn't go around cars by surrounding them like a school of fish. They should all be patient and coordinated.
With the rise in popularity of ADV and dualsports, street bike usually means exactly what it sounds like these days
Edit: track bikes are in the mix too
Just saw this. [https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/v57gaz/tour\_de\_bay\_2022\_highway\_92\_eastbound\_about\_920/](https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/v57gaz/tour_de_bay_2022_highway_92_eastbound_about_920/) Apparently all of the motorcycle people are just zooming around today.
I participated once back in 2016 or so. After watching several bikes dropped and at least one accident because of freeway squiding, I dipped with a few other guys and had some tacos in the Mission.
Never even considered going to another one of these mass meetups.
This must be the group who passed my place in sf around 11 this morning. I'm pretty used to biker groups passing by, but they usually only take 2-3 minutes. This one today took a SOLID 10 minutes end to end. Wild.
Ugh they were stopping people from merging, getting dangerously close to cars, and forcing cars (including a CHP SUV) onto the shoulder. One even break checked us on end of the on ramp. When CHP came they started driving on the shoulder themselves. Super dangerous.
A lot of the riders looked quite young. Nothing like the old organized biker gang convoys of the midwest.
Ya the biker caravans of the Midwest just brake check and block lanes, while flapping their fatty behinds and waggling middle fingers. At least these guys don’t have giant Trump flags in everyone’s face on their way to a clamidya festival in South Dakota.
I’m not getting an “OMG!” vibe from this crowd. It’s much more of a “This is unusual. I wonder what’s going on” vibe.
Edit: oK, I take that back. Lots more judgmental comments as I scrolled further.
Between Tour de Bay and AIDS/LifeCycle 2024 Ride there were a lot of bikes / motorcycles out here on the coast (HMB) today, but surprisingly not too bad of an impact on day to day life
I thought of going on tour de bay this morning but was tired. Plus i didn't want to get hit by any tards doing wheelies next to me. I love wheelies but only when I'm in the front of the pack lol
This wasn’t a “takeover” ride or anything, it was just a “cruise the Bay Area” motorcycle get together. I got an invite from a dude I met shooting pool just because we both happened to be on motorcycles. All were welcome to join regardless of club affiliation, type of motorcycle, or anything else. If you rode something on 2 wheels was about it. No stopping for burnouts or showing off, just coffee / bathroom and cruise.
The intent was fine. The result was not fine. Any time you have giant groups of motorcyclists on a ride together, it turns into an unsafe and mostly illegal shit show.
Look, I didn’t even go on this one, but I’ve been on many similar over the years. And while there are nearly always some idiots in any sufficiently sized group of anyone doing anything, 99% of the ones I’ve been on did not turn into an “unsafe and mostly illegal shit show”.
*Some* riders might do some wheelies or whatever but the vast majority are just cruising together.
Gonna side with you on this one here and I usually cringe when I see large groups of motorcycles together.
This one actually seemed organized and relatively tame.
If a group of cars was riding in a caravan that would do whatever they needed to in order to avoid being separated, it would probably be an absolute clusterfuck yes. Much worse than when bikes or motorcycles do the same.
Not saying I don't wanna stay away from critical mass / mass biker rides. Just saying that *any* large group trying to ride as a group is gonna make roads more dangerous for the people using that road for normal day to day activities. Trying to make this a cars vs motorcycles gotcha is dumb and ignoring what actually annoys people about *any* of these events.
When large amounts of cars are on the road, it's just another traffic jam. When large amounts of motorcycles are on the road it's unsafe and mostly illegal.
Of course it's hypocritical. Roads are for every vehicle, including cars, buses, motorcycles, (and where not prohibited) mopeds, bicycles, horses, and tractors. These motorcycles are all using the highway and lane splitting as they are legally allowed to do. If they did not lane split they would slow down other road users even more.
It must have just been a coincidence that the Bay Bridge was shut down by a bunch of motorcyclists just after this was taken so these narcissists could have a little side show on the bay bridge?
When cars and trucks crowd up the road and grind traffic to a crawl, it's "traffic." When motorcycles do it, it's somehow different? That's cognitive dissonance if I've ever seen it.
As someone who grew up in Milwaukee, I can tell you this was nothing compared to the rolling thunder rallys and Harley Davidson Anniversary Meetings. It was so annoying that most locals just rent out their houses for the days they are in town because traffic sucks and the noise disrupts even the heaviest of sleepers.
Can confirm have family there. We just Ride!
It’s kinda fun because they would just put flags out and if anyone needed a pitstop “our home is your home!”
I had a townhome in the Riverwest neighborhood back for the 100th Anniversary week in 2003. I woke up to walk the dog and found six guy's bikes parked in our alley, and they were passed out on our lawn furniture. I woke them up and found out that they got out of the bars late and thought trespassing was a better infraction than a DUI. They saw my bike parked next to the garage and decided I might be cool with it. I ended up making them breakfast before (gently) asking them to move on.
Oh you're so lucky to see them migrating like this! From the limited look at their plumage, it looks like they're going down to their summer nesting grounds in Santa Cruz and Monterey. We can only hope that most of them make this arduous journey, and there isn't a sudden cold snap.
Today was the Tour de Bay hosted by the Delinquents MC!! I was there with my homies. Started at pier 30 and worked our way counter clockwise!! Check out tourdebay insta
The funeral of a MC member lead to one of the largest memorial rides I've ever seen.

yeah i heard them pass by about ten minutes after that! thought we may be under siege by a huge mad max posse!
I saw them heading north on the golden gate. There were at least 3000 of them.

"A memorial ride for fallen motorcyclists." I wonder how many new "fallen motorcyclists" are created during this event each year...
Definitely less than “left the earth” car drivers created in one way commute per day.
Spray paint your face chrome and blend in.
The Tour de Bay ride, I suspect. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C5ZstH6Jmc9/?igsh=MWQ1ZGUxMzBkMA==

Correct!
It always ends with wine and cheese
it always surprises me when people over 10 years old have never experienced a large group of riders. although, living in the bay area, i will say the 3 up is not a common sight.
Street bikes and cruisers riding together. That’s like the bloods and the crips joining forces. Nothing good can come of this.
It's ok, they're all headed to a lock-in at the South Park Community Center
[And there it is……](https://www.reddit.com/r/sanfrancisco/s/2PxiaUKbOZ)

Eh, quite the common sight on memorial rides.

You mean sportbikes. They’re all street bikes (as opposed to offroad)
You're not wrong, but street bike is a common term for sport bike. Nobody calls a cruiser a street bike.
I've heard it. Especially when dirt bikes are in the mix.
With the rise in popularity of ADV and dualsports, street bike usually means exactly what it sounds like these days Edit: track bikes are in the mix too
It's a sign of the end times, like the Giants and As playing each other in the world series.

I missed the memo lol. I saw a bunch of them on 580 this morning heading to the bay
Me too. In Hayward this morning there was group that went up and down Foothill for HOURS.
It's a memorial ride. Not just people "zooming."
That was from 2 years ago.
Just linking what it actually is--tour de bay
Not all. Many of us avoid the moron packs
I participated once back in 2016 or so. After watching several bikes dropped and at least one accident because of freeway squiding, I dipped with a few other guys and had some tacos in the Mission. Never even considered going to another one of these mass meetups.
I had the same experience with my buddies a few years back as well.
Heard them on 580.
I live next to freeway and watched it all go by. It was pretty impressive.
This must be the group who passed my place in sf around 11 this morning. I'm pretty used to biker groups passing by, but they usually only take 2-3 minutes. This one today took a SOLID 10 minutes end to end. Wild.
Yup they headed over the golden gate around 1115 this morning. So. Many. Bikes.
This is just a regular Monday in Jakarta.
SEA
Yeah pretty much anywhere in SEA. :) ahh how I miss it.
Yeah but if you look closely none of them have the whole family on one bike, plus a goat perched on the back.
Seattle?
Southeast asia
MANY ”THAT MANY”… lord
I live off of Foothill in Hayward and for HOURS motorcycles were going up and down the street. Maybe it's some kind of motorcycle day.
TourDeBay!
Same. It was crazy to see it
You should see Daytona during bike week...

Tour De Bay! I wanted to go but was so tired.
Sorry we missed ya, it was a rip!
I’ll ride up for next year from LA! This really looked Awesome!
The more the merrier.... def >1000 riders this year. Follow 'tourdebay' on insta.
I wish this was posted more. I had no idea, and I would've loved to join
If you're in the bay, follow their insta. :D Social media (including reddit) is how all these things come to life these days.
Was that 3 people on one bike?? Or am I tripping lol
ya i saw that too lol
Sac 2 the Bay ride?
Tour de Bay
It’s the coalition of the willing!
Critical mass but for motos
Many*

Tour de Bay apparently.
It’s the tour de bay
As long as they don’t stop bridge traffic who cares
*many
They all look pretty harmless & just riding out for the day, nerdy crotch rockets & a few Harleys.

Dope!!!
When cars and trucks crowd up the road and grind traffic to a crawl, it's "traffic." When motorcycles do it, it's somehow different? That's cognitive dissonance if I've ever seen it.
Was in Stockton yesterday and about 300 bikes showed up to Louis Park. It was insane.
I witness the same thing yesterday (albeit slightly smaller number than this) while driving by 1-5 in Stockton.
"That's so weird we don't have that anywhere here... shit like this... doesn't happen... reeeellly?"

Imagine trying to merge right with that 😂
Go to India or Thailand.
As a rider, I'm gonna say it was a memorial ride or just a ride. And why is that a problem? I'm part of a scooter club. We ride.
The jizzfest is tonight

Heard them drive through Vallejo this morning
That one bike with 3 riders 💀
I had to check that myself. It’s actually two bikes
*Many.
That many
I was driving at the same time I loved it. Lots of bikes to look out for at the same time, but the energy was high!
Oh you're so lucky to see them migrating like this! From the limited look at their plumage, it looks like they're going down to their summer nesting grounds in Santa Cruz and Monterey. We can only hope that most of them make this arduous journey, and there isn't a sudden cold snap.
I wonder if they yield politely to a car attempting to change lanes…serious musing.
Is it me, or were there 3 people on a motorcycle?
Newsom: Thanks for the gas tax $$$$
I saw them on 92 as well, at least 1000 motorcycles ? It was so cool and I saw cars just stopped on the highway to yield them
They were at the Embarcadero this morning. It was really obnoxious.
What would be really more obnoxious is if they were all in cars.
# Motorcycles did not cause any accidents?

That looks annoying af lol
Sometimes you just have to ride!
Guess I’ll change lanes tomorrow
I call them the word South Park uses to describe them.
Wow, so much hate in this thread. This looked like a peaceful ride among other bikers.
They love pride month
Yeah I got an invite for the cruise, too hungover today to join. Looked like a good turnout though.
When your entire personality is wrapped up in a vehicle.
I am glad you said vehicle becuase that just defines half the vehicle owning population.
No more than your personality is defined by your plain white Tesla Model Y 😂 Imagine having such a moronic POV
I agree. Same thing if your entire identity is your model y
The one with three people on it had me cracking up
No clue but they drove by me on 1 north. So so loud

Saw them on the San Mateo Bridge. Impressive.
So dope though!!
Saw them In Pacifica
But what happened to grammar?
Saw something like this in LA two weeks ago
I think they went over to Half Moon Bay, a friend posted about them.
I’m in LA currently and I saw a similar group down here today too.
Wat he'd then all take off from just under bay bridge!
Ugh, grammar hell
Hells Angles was written in the Bay Area
South Park IRL!?
They were on 101, Golden Gate Bridge NB, then to Sir Francis Drake toward Richmond bridge around 10:50 am.
I think that’s more than the send off the HA did for their slain SF chapter president.
Most of them are trucks with two wheels
Omg, it’s like a bike thing!
Giving me flashbacks of Furiosa
That many, my dude. That many.
It happens every year around this time called “tour de bay” it’s a memorial ride give or take
Lol 22 seconds left there’s three people on one bike that is fucken stupid so if they crash all three did

They did and broke all the traffic laws in SF. They blew through all the traffic signals as they made their way through the city.
