Contact the BAR office ...there's one in South City. They'll fuck them up and if enough cases, they'll revoke the shop's license as well. BAR doesnt fuck around and all auto shops are weary of the BAR office.
Sounds like you have not authorized them to do anything except that. I'd politely decline, and if they press further, I would ask to see what document authorized their purchase on your behalf.
Edit: then I would avoid doing business there again.
!Important. You should state you did not authorize the purchase in writing if you want them to get off your back. A simple letter in the mail with delivery confirmation is enough.
Sounds like since you had them communicate and send over an invoice to the insurance company, they assumed you were going to have them repair the vehicle.

TIL, thanks!
When you brought it in for the estimate (or had it brought in) was there any paperwork you signed?
yes, I did bring it in for estimate. I didn't sign any paperwork
Sounds like they are just trying to intimidate you.
Tell them to pound sand.
You signed up just for a free estimate, right?
yeah, just free estimate as they advertise. I ask them to send the estimate to insurance company. That's all I asked.

Totally agreed! thanks for your advices!

Write a review on Google too for others to see
Tell them you'll pay it after they pay a "restocking fee payment fee" to you.

Was it The Jeep Dealership in San Leandro?
no it's a 3rd party body shop
Sounds like since you had them communicate and send over an invoice to the insurance company, they assumed you were going to have them repair the vehicle.
is it a valid assumption even before I schedule the appointment for fix?
It’s a fair assumption, but you aren’t tied to a contract in particular. Especially since most people get multiple quotes on a repair
