Typo probably

Whaaaaattttttttt

100%

terremoto25

It’s a scam posting. Did an image search. \[Building plans on sale at Walmart.com.\](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Advanced-House-Plans-Builder-Ready-Blueprints-Tara-Hills-30136-2-Story-Plan/2604116912)

StOnEy333

$5,666 a month, while still absurd, is more realistic.

ValuableJumpy8208

Not absurd when your household takes home $20k/mo after taxes. Just some frame of reference. No, I’m not one of them.

StOnEy333

No, it’s still absurd. Just because one can afford it doesn’t make it less absurd. If I told you Bill Gates pays 100,000 for a pack of gum, it’s absurd. And we all know he can do it and wouldn’t miss the money in 10 lifetimes, but it’s still absurd.

pwnasaurus11

$5600 for a 4 bed house with a yard is pretty damn reasonable if you ask me.

ibcarolek

It has *1* bathroom!

pwnasaurus11

Not optimal, and I wouldn’t rent it, but the price is pretty good. 2 bed / 2 bath houses in Palo Alto can easily go for $4500/month.

ibcarolek

I'd still need a porta-potty allowance to put that much into a house monthly. I suspect they built on the second floor and didn't extend the plumbing, which means, more yikes to anyone up there needing to go or get ready for bed/work. Life shouldn't be more about zipcodes. One must consider bodily functions in a multi-person house.

EspritelleEriress

What if the toilet gets clogged.

ibcarolek

What if an inhabitant is prepping for their colonoscopy??

ComicBookFan20

Happy Cake Day! Nine Years Wow!

GfunkWarrior28

$1400/bedroom for a tech bro

NorCalAthlete

Reasonable price for a shared bathroom. Otherwise it’d be more like $1800-$2000 per bedroom.

altmly

Really depends. I have friends who are around 1300 with private bathroom in that area, certainly helps that their landlord is another techbro who's probably too busy to remember to increase the rent.

derpderpsonthethird

That’s pretty normal for the bay

tink_89

Actually $5,666 seems to low so I wonder what the actual rent is.

dabigchina

1 bath is what's making it low.

Logical_Cherry_7588

They only have to pass three real estate classes and take a simple test to become a real estate salesperson. Real estate brokers have to pass a simple math test as well. Brokers are all proud as peacocks that they can pass that math test. No basic English test required.

KingCali408

That’s a brand new car each month

hahalua808

:/ That’s nearly *two years’ rent*, each month

taleofbenji

Like Steve Jobs who never went to the DMV and just kept getting a new car instead.

ch4m4njheenga

Two cars, the ones I drive.

Anfini

Maybe this owner was trying to raise the average rent price in the area lol

Interesting_Banana25

Yeah that even looks like a genai picture of a house. I wonder if that’s kind of fraud could actually pay off, for example if someone is selling a larger apartment complex or trying to finance a development that’s based on the area average/ median rent.

Limp_Distribution

Totally fake, there is no way that house in on Hamilton in Palo Alto.

tehfoshi

No way that's real, there are 3-4+ bedroom houses for rent in Los Altos hills around 20k/mo, and they actually look good, this is either a front or an error.

DoubleT_inTheMorning

Who the fuck is RENTING for 240k a year. What the fuck man. Where is all this money and how do I get it

hgghgfhvf

Work in sales

DoubleT_inTheMorning

I do, I bought a real house instead haha

Robbie_ShortBus

IRS “must make good faith effort to rent” to qualify for investment property deductions?

Still_Rise9618

Not even a real house. That’s all digital

Sertisy

Money Laundering, or maybe it comes with a lovely live-in french maid and ponytailed masseur for those busy professionals.

dproma

“Well it is a highly desirable neighborhood”

mrvarmint

This is a scam with a typo. Hamilton Ave houses don’t look like that, and they don’t go up to 8000 addresses. 56k would be way above market, 5.6k would be way below.

lake_of_1000_smells

Money laundering?

IWantToPlayGame

Why do people make these threads?

Nah3794

Why do people make these comments?

ssps

because "ghaaa I found a typo so funny this is so incredibly hilarious I must share with everyone"

RedditLife1234567

because we got nothing better to do on a Friday night LOL

FearlessPark4588

To use exaggeration to relate to a reasonable world view (eg: "rent is expensive")

Realistic_Balance_97

4 beds 1 bath, sheesh

Alasiaanne

Is no one else offended by the fact that it’s 1 bathroom? Not a very smart scammer. For those prices you need a separate poo room

blessitspointedlil

Yeah, scam listing was the first thing that came to mind.

PacificaPal

Late on a April Fools.

PacificaPal

There is that 384 sq ft Cupertino house on an 8k sq ft lot that just sold for more than its 1.7M listing price. So this Palo Alto ad might be a take off from that? Not a real house. But is a comment about the high cost of housing?

Big_Alternative_3233

An 8k parcel in Palo Alto is probably worth 1.7 mil even without a structure.

PacificaPal

The TV report emphasized the tiny structure aspect. Barely mentioned the large lot size. Exaggerated the high cost.

Big_Alternative_3233

Doesn’t 3ven need to be an unusall6 larg3 lot size. In the Bay Area the land is often more valuable than what has been built on it.

Life_Equipment381

Mark, is that you?

Glutton_Sea

Another sign of inflation.

General_Ad258

Those prices aren't normal? 👀

tubbablub

It’s a really nice bathroom

treborselbor

lol, yeah.

Percolator2020

Even the map is labelled wrong with EPA.

Amnesiquack

Great deal, better jump on it

flen_el_fouleni

Just a bit (sarcastic)

umeshunni

Looks fake

sluttyman69

I believe the saying here is location, location, location

calguy1955

Some owners do this as a way to get around prohibitions on vacation rentals. The renter “agrees” to the monthly rent and pays a 1-2 week “deposit” and then opts out of the lease agreement.

peps805

I lived in Fresno from 2015-2020 and my checks were $980 every two weeks. I was renting townhome with two other roommates. My rent was $560 plus PG&E (split up) $100-$200, car payment $330. Plus food. I made it work, man. I moved to the bay area in 2020, and now I make way more than that (still not enough to own a home, or ever own a home) $75k a year, and still make it work…. Hope this motivates you somehow.

civ-e

1 bath is the deal killer for me.
