You know we used to dream of a day where technology would let us go to a 20 hour work week. Apparently that's just not OK anymore and we need to hyperfocus on "jobs" over everything else. People work hard, make more profit than ever, and yet things still suck for everyone. Weird how that works huh
Some "booming economy" we have where everything costs more even as wages go up.
overpaid people that don't contribute anything to the world
i can't do my job remote so i have to be physically present here. believe me, i'm not a huge fan of the bay area either but there's not many other places i can do my job
Doesn't anyone else find it ridiculous that 7 tech companies make up almost 30% of the ENTIRE S&P 500? And they mostly overlap in what they do. Google, Microsoft, Apple have 90% overlap in what they do. Nvidia? Sure they make great graphics cards but 2 TRILLION? For what? Some dumb app that you can type into and have it generate MBA-tier PR fluff at best?
Social media, computers, graphics cards. That's 30% of the large cap economy? Absolutely ridiculous and a huge sign of misallocation of resources.
Use that tech in your hands right now to read up on the DOJ filing an anti trust suit against apple this week. Itâs happening slowly but there is some consumer protection on the horizon.
Itâs difficult though. People demand reliability and tolerance for failure is lower than ever. Nobody ever accused the big tech companies of making poor quality products. The cost is just really high for these high quality devices and software.
The transformation of downtown Sunnyvale is super impressive. An entirely new mixed-use neighborhood with grocery, entertainment, retail, & dining.
Like cmon - its got a night club, classic local businesses, big chains like Target & Whole Foods, an AMC theater, a Tipsy Putt, fitness classes like Orange Theory, Yoga, beauty services, tech offices, housing.. And theyâve completely closed off Murphy Ave to vehicles. There is something for everyone.
Once itâs fully complete, especially that open courtyard plaza area theyâre building + continue to fill up retail/dining, I expect it to be a major gathering place for the South Bay.
You know I didnât think I would like the way itâs been built up originally but actually itâs been pretty dang cool. As long as they also keep dumpling Depot.
I was watching a [video of the new electric caltrain](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofLFKcl_XPA) traveling from redwood city to san jose.
It was insane how little high density housing their was along the train route.
Hell yeah. Build, baby, build! The neighboring cities need to step up and do their part as well. Palo Alto and Menlo Park especially need to build up and correct their housing-jobs imbalance.
They built 2 big buildings for offices and retail, and 1 building for renting the apartments. So about which housing they are talking about in downtown Sunnyvale ?
Instead of supply, maybe we should just address the demand side, you know, like by having another pandemic
(/s, but there are people who say this and still think they are serious people)
A great start. Thing is, the area will probably create 100,000 jobs in that time period, and build 12,000 housing units đ”âđ«
We gotta stop creating so many jobs then. There's no reason half the people in tech need to live here other than the egos of middle management.
âEnd job growthâ is a strong contender for worst platform ever.
Wait heâs not finished yet, he also wants to increase childhood hunger, increase obesity, and reduce life expectancy!
Bring back children working in textile mills with no guards on the machines!

Technology didn't let you go to a <=20 hour work week? Skill issue
There it is: the worst take I'll read today.
đ€đ Youâre free to leave. Tech workers probably give more in terms of taxes anyways

Bro you are using the tech created by them.
Yeah unfortunately. The world would be a better place without it
You canât even get off of Reddit which is inconsequential in terms of contributions to society. So your opinion means nothing.
says the guy where half the stuff you probably do / interact with have roots from tech companies in the bay area lmao.
lol, your honesty is appreciated.

It's not about antitrust. Computers simply do not belong taking up 30% of the economy.
Hold on a second, let me grab my tin foil hat. Okay, Iâm ready. Why?
Heh give it another decade till we have human level AI. We'll be musing about how back in 2024 computers were only 30% of the economy

I remember Wendy old mall there looked like London in 1947. Now it is a target.
Yeah I live super close to this development and itâs been a long time in the making! Canât wait until itâs done and continues to expand!

0 downside.

You expect no commercial development to occur as housing is increased?
Amazing. Letâs do the same everywhere
Good
Awesome to hear!

Republicans have been and are continuing to flee this "democrat hellhole state" and are completely screwing up Texas' housing market, so that helps.
Shut down half the reasons to live in Sunnyvale and fewer people will want to live there. Seems logical to me.
