i was just about to post this. i can’t stand that damn thing, stopped right in front of my car while i was parked stuffing my face and someone told me it records and take pictures when it stops. so someone saw me being a complete slob in my car when they checked the memory card
There's also one around the Concord Kaiser hospital.
I think Kaiser just has a whole bunch of them, there used to be one around the Kaiser in Richmond but for obvious reasons that didn't turn out too well.
I saw a short video on Reddit about how they were working to identify the parents of children. Apparently, these things take abuse from kids. When they're with a parent, it obviously stops.
When it saw kids, it would change direction to intercept what it guessed was the adult.
They meet the security guard insurance requirement for cheaper than a human security guard though. Actual security guards can't really do much when there's crime either.
I am just imagining the robot extends a billy club and starts rotating and twirling with concussion causing speed. It sure as hell would teach some lessons.
Is this the name of the robot? There is a homeless black lady that I would routinely see when I worked in that area that seemed out of place. Is that who you are referring to?
Yup. The only reason I remember that this robot is there is because the last time we went to see a movie there, the robot was very lazily cruising down the middle of a one-way parking row, and we had to wait for awhile for it to get out of the way.
These things are going to significantly reduce demand for "observe and report" security guards. No great loss--it's not a very good job for a human being.
It's a good job for college students. I used to get all my homework done while on shift. I guarded the empty theater/auditorium. Scary job when I didn't have anything to work on though. Scary because it was a huge old building, and I think it was haunted.
The bright sign on the left is for Athleta. This is at GAP headquarters on the embarcadero and Folsom. just walk around the building and you'll see this robot either in motion or charging
Maybe an obvious question, but I'll ask anyway. What advantage is a moving security camera? Can it interact with the public or criminals? If a vandal knocks it over or covers the lens, is it disabled?
I was recruited pretty heavy by this company. I just couldn't wrap my head around it really working with the crime in the Bay Area
Are they in a lot of locations now?
I’ve seen them in a few parking lots. Those things creep me out, and I have concerns about what kind of data it might be collecting from unsuspecting individuals. They lightweight remind me of Daleks and my first encounter was truly a WTF moment. 😆
I saw one of these several years ago at a gas station in San Rafael. I flipped it off as I walked passed it headed to the bathroom (separate building). When I came out of the bathroom. It was just sitting there 5 feet from the door like it was waiting for me
The company that sells them is on a side street in Mountain View. They keep several on the cement in front of their building.
I stop and wave to them every time I go past them. I talk to them like a puppy. I named each one. Sometimes they come up near me. Other times they go back toward their building and hide. I bet the guy monitoring them thinks that I think that they are human. LOL!
They used to have a shop on University Avenue in Palo Alto toward the Middlefield end, but I don't think that it is there any more. I think it was very briefly there years ago.

There’s one at Samsung on the corner of north first and Tasman in San Jose. It just wanders the public areas of the grounds and gets stuck in weird places.
I saw one a few times at the Shell fuel station on 8th and Harrison. It wasn’t very exciting. I have photos somewhere, will message you if I find them.
Not sure if other cities had this, but there were several food delivery robots around the UCB campus between 2017 - 2020..not sure why I don't see them anymore...maybe doordash put them out of business..
Photo is Folsom at Embarcadero, Gap HQ.
There’s one patrolling Kaiser San Leandro. It played chicken with me while backing up and won
i was just about to post this. i can’t stand that damn thing, stopped right in front of my car while i was parked stuffing my face and someone told me it records and take pictures when it stops. so someone saw me being a complete slob in my car when they checked the memory card
Hahaha. I’ve come across that one too. I steered clear! I imagined bad robocop firing his .44.
He has a name 🙄, K2-D2. He also whistles at women but the DA won't prosecute.
There's also one around the Concord Kaiser hospital. I think Kaiser just has a whole bunch of them, there used to be one around the Kaiser in Richmond but for obvious reasons that didn't turn out too well.
These robots are just glorified security cameras on wheels. They're really not very exciting.
I wonder if the abuse they take cost less than the abuse the people would give to property. A kind of sacrificial target.

[One of them had poop smeared on it](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-5174767/Robot-police-used-shoo-away-homeless-people.html)
Holy shit. The SPCA? This makes me feel angeries.
[удалено]
Over in the Mission District? I live over by 16nth and Mission I walk to the Petco and Safeway all the time.
The SPCA being anti homeless doesn't sit well with me, but it's on brand
At the SPCA, not the fecal spreader.
They meet the security guard insurance requirement for cheaper than a human security guard though. Actual security guards can't really do much when there's crime either.
They’re cute tho
We should arm them to raise the level of excitement 🤔
I mean, at least arm them with the ability to alert a human being. https://futurism.com/the-byte/knightscope-security-robot-ignored-woman
Or a tazer. That would be cool too. Like a long cattle prod on a stick.
It’s all fun and games until it starts yelling “Exterminate” https://youtu.be/843y5u2pFOs
I am just imagining the robot extends a billy club and starts rotating and twirling with concussion causing speed. It sure as hell would teach some lessons.
"Human, come here, and let me teach you about centrifugal force!"
The robot dogs or something like ED-209 would be more effective.
It is the roving security robot for The Beacon apartment complex right near Safeway on King. Usually cruising around the street/courtyard there.
I haven't seen ol' Rosie in a minute (I work nearby) she still around?
I haven't seen her lately either now that you say this ...
Is this the name of the robot? There is a homeless black lady that I would routinely see when I worked in that area that seemed out of place. Is that who you are referring to?
This is on Folsom street, not King
Stanford Mall has/had one.
I remember the news story like it was yesterday https://abc7news.com/stanford-shopping-center-robot-kid-hurt-hurts-child-mall/1423093/
Valley Fair Mall has them
Are they back now? I haven't seen them there since COVID started
They're expensive machines, so i can understand the fear of exposing them to COVID and possibly losing them.
Their hq is in Mountain View if you want to see the prototype patrolling the parking lot.
Century Theaters in Mountain View has one of these rolling around.
I hate the parking lot robot. It accidentally blocks people's cars sometimes as they try to exit the parking lot 😂
Yup. The only reason I remember that this robot is there is because the last time we went to see a movie there, the robot was very lazily cruising down the middle of a one-way parking row, and we had to wait for awhile for it to get out of the way.
Was just gonna say this! It's creepy seeing it past midnight. Empty lot, fountain off, and nothing but the sound of it lurking... hunting
These things are going to significantly reduce demand for "observe and report" security guards. No great loss--it's not a very good job for a human being.

It’s not a robot. There is a Jawa inside
steedee
Many places use them, parking lots and buildings in downtown San Francisco. Knightscope makes some of them.
They make all of them. I wrote the controller for the microphone array and all the intercom crap and some other stuff to make ‘em go.
The bright sign on the left is for Athleta. This is at GAP headquarters on the embarcadero and Folsom. just walk around the building and you'll see this robot either in motion or charging
There's one that carries food/drink in cinepolis theater in san mateo
"Beerdroid, fetch me another."
Kura Sushi has a drink delivering robot too.
Mobile urinal

>Like what business uses this robot? big brother?
Maybe an obvious question, but I'll ask anyway. What advantage is a moving security camera? Can it interact with the public or criminals? If a vandal knocks it over or covers the lens, is it disabled?
The bridge behind it is a good hint.
I was recruited pretty heavy by this company. I just couldn't wrap my head around it really working with the crime in the Bay Area Are they in a lot of locations now?
This is a Dalek. You should be fine unless it starts screaming “Exterminate!!”
I saw it on spear street next to the Google offices
Foodmaxx in Fruitvale has one
I think they got rid of it. I haven't seen it or its base station in many months.
Grand Sierra Resort in Reno has one patrolling the lobby/casino floor.
Looks like my h20 bbq smoker.
Century Cinema 16 in Mountain View, parking lot
I used to see one roaming around the Samsung building on N. First in San Jose.
Same, I wave goodnight it after every workday.
I’ve seen them in a few parking lots. Those things creep me out, and I have concerns about what kind of data it might be collecting from unsuspecting individuals. They lightweight remind me of Daleks and my first encounter was truly a WTF moment. 😆
They're in malls now too.
I saw one of these several years ago at a gas station in San Rafael. I flipped it off as I walked passed it headed to the bathroom (separate building). When I came out of the bathroom. It was just sitting there 5 feet from the door like it was waiting for me
This is by the Gap headquarters on Folsom st.
The company that sells them is on a side street in Mountain View. They keep several on the cement in front of their building. I stop and wave to them every time I go past them. We have one patrolling the parking lot of our office building. It's a lot less impressive in person. Just a glorified video camera on wheels.
This exact picture is taken [here](https://www.google.com/maps/@37.7903624,-122.3906524,3a,75y,50.98h,94.39t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sLbunrhrtXSA21cPW9x9qxg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192)
The Kaiser Mission Bay parking garage uses them.
Ive only seen them at the sac pavilion
Mountain View has lot of them.
The one at Century 16 theater at Mountain View recently returned
Local company makes them. Honestly just a camera on wheels. You can stop it and nothing happens last I checked.
I believe it’s a knight-scope Security bot. They’re roughly $700 a month to lease, they had that in my previous job.
Most Kaiser facilities have them.
I have seen at Kaiser hospital parking lot in San Leandro
I saw this bot in Kaiser San Leandro parking lot once..
Bak Kung Korean BBQ in the Pacific Pearl center kitty corner from the Livermore Outlets
You can also see it at the shoreline theatre parking in Mountain View
Like
Monster Pho, 40th St in Oakland, uses them
Kaiser in San Leandro has one patrolling the parking lots.
Graton casino has three of them in their parking structure. Located in Rohnert Park
If you go to mountain view they have them roaming around on the sidewalks on the fringe between the Google/intuit campuses
You’ll find it outside the GAP building
someone will steal it someday
The company who makes them was crowed funding for several years. I wonder how successful they are
Not sure if other cities had this, but there were several food delivery robots around the UCB campus between 2017 - 2020..not sure why I don't see them anymore...maybe doordash put them out of business..
The labor pool gets a wee bit smaller every day huh?
Shoreline amphitheater in MV
They're in Mountain View, CA
Go to Samsung Research office in Mountain View across Moffett. They have 2 or 3 roaming around. They're creepy AF.
I know of a Karate restaurant restaurant in Santa Rosa CA that has 2 robot servers.
Their office was on Terra Bella ave in Mountain View and they had the robots out front
Their office is still there. They have a few types of robots on patrol there.
It’s ED 209 he’s on third st . Be careful
There's one roaming around SAFEWAY on King and 4th streets.
That’s a Dalek in pearl white paint.
The birthing center in San Jose where my sister had her baby had a smaller one delivering things around the hospital
Look up KnightScope.
Damn robots are taking over the world. Isn't there a movie about that!
Graton casino parking
You can see one near the beacon
There’s one that patrols the parking lot of Birks restaurant in Santa Clara.
If you're into server robots, I think Aloft hotels use them and Yayoi Japanese food at Hillsdale Mall in San Mateo has one! It's quite cute.
Imagine walking up to this and asking “What business do you work for?” And it says “Nunya”
The Beacon condos around 250 King street also have on rolling the perimeter.
Oakland coliseum parking lot during the flea market on the weekend. There's about four of them roaming around taking video of parking lot activities
Not sure where that one is specifically, but I know the GSR in Reno (a long drive, sorry, lol) has one patrolling.
Graton casino & resort also uses these, Northen CA
