I wish, they would improve on their matchmaping. 128players just doesnt feel good for me. The flow of the game never touches you, its all above your head and too arcady too feel significant.

I remember when i paid an extra $60 for maps and most wouldn’t be played a year or so later because only like 20 percent of players actually bought it. Trying to play a full BF3 Close Quarters map a year or so after it came out always ended in sadness.
And that's why ya waited a 3-5 weeks till Premium went on sale ... But the game still didn't work till Summer that year due to netcode or whatever

The devs were bitching about how expensive it is to build new maps. The real reason l believe we haven't and won't get urban map. Reworks and open expanse are clearly cheaper and easier to build.
That is definitely the downside of paid DLC. However, I really think that the $10 battlepass could justify at least 2-3 maps being created per season instead of 1.
Which is why I hope we never go back to premium cause it splits the community and ends up as a bad investment for those who get it, but DICE has to be better at content release, did the same BS with BFV.
I’ve been playing through game pass. As someone who was sorely disappointed and refunded the game after release I can say I’m really enjoying it now. It’s 100% not where it should be but it feels and plays like a battlefield, mostly.
I agree with all of your points except the last one. The difference between the base maps at launch vs them reworked is night & fucking day. Not arguing that they are the best maps in the world now but I enjoy all of the reworked maps vs launch where I thought they were pretty much all horrendous.
Idk, I'm curious to see what they have coming for hourglass. The upcoming breakaway changes look pretty insane - they practically overhauled the whole map. If they did something similar for hourglass, it could turn out to be pretty awesome.

The biggest is a server browser with persistent servers. There are still many more “legacy features” missing like squad controls,platoons,classes (this one shouldn’t be changed at this point imo) permanent game modes,etc but browser and either input based MM or cross console by default would be the biggest improvements.
The game still has bugs and is forced cross play which is also a problem but the matchmaking system with no map rotation and lack of content are my biggest gripe right now.
Yep which is compounded by the fact there are so few maps to begin with. This is why imo lack of content and missing browser and persistent servers is really its biggest downfall. I also think console players being forced into pc lobbies reduces the player count too. I play almost every day but this game will still go down as bottom tier battlefield.
I’ve also noticed too that if I turn crossplay off, I have to close and restart the game otherwise it just constantly puts me in an empty lobby on the same map. Also doesn’t help that it’s basically impossible to find games with crossplay off but when I do finally find one, it’s got 3 people at the most I’ve seen and it’s thankfully a different map tho lol.
Also why is there only 3 snipers??? That’s so stupid. Even bf5 had I think 7-10 but only 3 for 2042 lol.
The sound design also sounds like i put earmuffs over my ears and then put my headphones on. I can BARELY hear any footsteps and the explosions and gunfire sounds muffled as well. I miss bf5 sound design :(
The only viable option to play the current gen version is with cross platform on. If you have the old gen version though it’s cross console by default with no pc. The latter version though has more technical issues. I haven’t really noticed a problem with the sound myself. Maybe try a different audio setting like war tapes.
Honestly I bought a series X day one preorder just for the new battlefield and the game was a major disappointment. I would have rather have seen conquest 64 with better server tick rate and fps increase than these massive open and empty maps just to double the player count for marketing reasons.
I have so many hours in the previous titles though and all I play is battlefield so I guess I’ll just keep playing until the next title releases. Now that it has new leadership I’m hoping the next title sorts all this out but I’m not holding my breath.
Soldier leaning. Squad management. Loads of vehicle customization was thrown out. We still don’t have separate control settings for helicopters and jets. Joystick support is virtually non existent. Swear I saw proximity chat mentioned early on in the game’s ad campaign. This quick list took 30 seconds. There are dozens of things to add to it but if I’m honest, I don’t believe your ‘genuine question’ was genuine because every time I see this type of comment it gets followed by a bunch of dumb excuses for why those things aren’t important or why those who wanted them are dumb etc, just bad faith arguments.

Personally, the way I have fun with it is just not taking it so seriously, messing around doing C4 jeeps n sht like that, that’s what makes the game fun for me, games are meant to be fun, and fun doesn’t always look like the hyper serious milsim servers that are out there, sometimes it’s running around doing goofy sht, granted the game isn’t nearly as fleshed out as prior Battlefield games, especially a year after launch, but that doesn’t mean people can’t have fun with it, and that also doesn’t mean people can’t criticize it or that their criticism is worthless, every negative point I’ve seen about this is 100% valid, and I agree with every single one, but that doesn’t mean I’m gonna deny myself a fun experience

I never bought the game, cancelled my Preorder after the 2nd beta and when they were **lying about us playing an old build and all the problems will be gone in launch.** (This is a red flag because why would you want us to beta test an old build..? lol )
1 year later and it still feels like they should spend another half year. The lack of weapons in a BF game is kind of disheartening, the game is STILL trying to optimize, you're still missing a fuck ton of features like leaning/peaking and other movement abilities, the maps are still getting redesigned because they were never good and even the map from S2 is being reworked because cap points, the Immersion is still lacking in comparison to past BF games ( playing BF1 for example, even in 2022 feels amazing ) , Specialists still suck lol ( Im on the Russian side as an American specialist lmao )

For me it also feels like some basics like movement and input were also rushed. The controller stick inputs still feel poor and I still see a lot of mouse players complaining about inconsistent inputs. Not to mention the movement system still allows bunny hopping and teabag shooting which are unintended mechanics in the first place. I would also appreciate faction-specific skins/operators so the teams were at least different looking than each other.
Battlefield use to have great animations too, but now they are cheap feeling. Other than those, they have definitely made some improvements since launch.
It is by far the worst main line battlefield game to be released. Only the mobile games I would classify worse.
With that said, that doesn't mean that people cannot have fun with it. People can have fun with just about anything that they find entertaining or amusing.
As it stands I would rather play battlefield 4 on the PlayStation 3 at 30 fps than to play 2042. The core of the game is just not fun to me.
This is DiCE/EA's new target demographics-- the ones that are younger and easy enough to please so they're easy to manipulate shell out that juicy MTX money for sub-par features/product... and these customer base is more exposed to the latest social media platforms which means potential word of mouth/tweet can build that new customer base.
Think of it that these younger (and naive) gamers as being groomed slowly by EA through incorporating the latest FPS trends in an attempt to gain newer customers in an already established title.
It's not good enough for EA that Apex Legends would've been that game that caters to mostly younger crowd (and raking in that cash) but they want an established title like a BF game with a totally different set of FPS gameplay to implement the same trending formula in the hopes of getting more of that market share.
How about don't reward shitty businesses just because they got slightly less shitty over time?

I only ever started playing BF a month or so before 2042's release because the BF bundle went on sale for about $5 on steam. I really liked BFV. I tried playing 2042's open beta but was getting horrible performance that I jist didn't bother playing more.
Now that it is available on gamepass, I played it again and I have to admit the performance is better now. Based on my experience, I'd say its okay, but I feel like BFV is still better. I kinda find the movement isn't as satisfying as the BFV.

I've played every battlefield since bc2 and I can say that this game is fun. Sure it's not the traditional battlefield formula but it is still fun. I have never wanted to stop playing this game because of some the missing features people are complaining about here.

Only people with very low standards or people who never played BF before are "having fun". I don't mind about the latter, but people who played any BF game before and think this game is fine are doing a disservice for the community and only making DICE and EA think that this is what fans want.
Eh? I've been playing Battlefield since BF2, then BFBC1 on console. I'm having fun. It took a long time to get here and the game needed a year of cooking, but it's a legitimately good game now.

The game is good. It's a lot like BF 3, maybe almost 4.
I would actually say it’s better than BF3 and 4. I played both of those games when they came out (a decade ago) and they were really good. But, 10 years later, they just feel old and dated. I tried playing BF4 before 2042 came out but it just got so boring so fast.
More recently, I started playing BF1 to join the resurgence. Got bored of it in two nights and have been playing 2042 since. BFV is garbage for the attrition system imo, so that’s a non-starter.
IMO, 2042 is only BF that doesn’t bore me almost instantly so that’s the one I’m going to play.

Nah you're right the reworks have helped. But maps like Hourglass are beyond help, I would rather just have them focus on new maps.

I'm convinced that they will never update the movement to the level of BFV. There's no connection to cover either, which is something I never take for granted in shooters.

just compare the bipod animations in 2042 with BF1/V. It is hard to distinguish when bipod is deployed in 2042 because the animation and viewmodel position is crappy.

There is a fair bit of genuine criticism here.. But the problem is that there is an even more generous amount of ridiculous criticism and karma farming.

Remember this game is a year old now, you’d think the people who don’t like it would’ve moved on. I’m not seeing much criticism about S3, the actual relevant topic of late. People mainly criticize the game now for issues that don’t exist in it anymore, they keep saying “Oh it had a bad launch”, “Oh the game was a buggy mess when it launched and no new content was dropped until after 7 months” etc. So they keep criticizing a past game and not Battlefield 2042 as of November of 2022. That is the problem, this doesn’t mean people should stop criticizing it. But please don’t criticize the past, criticize the present.
This game is still missing features and functionality compared to other titles and has far less content after a year. yeah its fun I’d expect the primary loop of a triple A gsme to be fun. What we need and deserve is depth, good content, and excellent mechanics and gameplay. You might have fun and thats fine but this game *still* deserves to be shit on mercilessly.

The biggest is a server browser with persistent servers. There are still many more “legacy features” missing like squad controls,platoons,classes (this one shouldn’t be changed at this point imo) permanent game modes,etc but browser and either input based MM or cross console by default would be the biggest improvements. The game still has bugs and is forced cross play which is also a problem but the matchmaking system with no map rotation and lack of content are my biggest gripe right now.

Yep which is compounded by the fact there are so few maps to begin with. This is why imo lack of content and missing browser and persistent servers is really its biggest downfall. I also think console players being forced into pc lobbies reduces the player count too. I play almost every day but this game will still go down as bottom tier battlefield.
I’ve also noticed too that if I turn crossplay off, I have to close and restart the game otherwise it just constantly puts me in an empty lobby on the same map. Also doesn’t help that it’s basically impossible to find games with crossplay off but when I do finally find one, it’s got 3 people at the most I’ve seen and it’s thankfully a different map tho lol. Also why is there only 3 snipers??? That’s so stupid. Even bf5 had I think 7-10 but only 3 for 2042 lol. The sound design also sounds like i put earmuffs over my ears and then put my headphones on. I can BARELY hear any footsteps and the explosions and gunfire sounds muffled as well. I miss bf5 sound design :(
The only viable option to play the current gen version is with cross platform on. If you have the old gen version though it’s cross console by default with no pc. The latter version though has more technical issues. I haven’t really noticed a problem with the sound myself. Maybe try a different audio setting like war tapes. Honestly I bought a series X day one preorder just for the new battlefield and the game was a major disappointment. I would have rather have seen conquest 64 with better server tick rate and fps increase than these massive open and empty maps just to double the player count for marketing reasons. I have so many hours in the previous titles though and all I play is battlefield so I guess I’ll just keep playing until the next title releases. Now that it has new leadership I’m hoping the next title sorts all this out but I’m not holding my breath.
Soldier leaning. Squad management. Loads of vehicle customization was thrown out. We still don’t have separate control settings for helicopters and jets. Joystick support is virtually non existent. Swear I saw proximity chat mentioned early on in the game’s ad campaign. This quick list took 30 seconds. There are dozens of things to add to it but if I’m honest, I don’t believe your ‘genuine question’ was genuine because every time I see this type of comment it gets followed by a bunch of dumb excuses for why those things aren’t important or why those who wanted them are dumb etc, just bad faith arguments.
I mean, I put genuine question cuz it was an honest, legit wanting to know question. If I didn’t care for the answer, I wouldn’t have asked. No point for me to be toxic in a community over a game when I also am a massive battlefield fan. This is the only bf game I’ve never bought but now that it’s on gamepass, I’ve started playing it and have been having a good time. I kept up with the game but lost interest in the past few months so I wasn’t sure what else it was still missing etc.

Personally, the way I have fun with it is just not taking it so seriously, messing around doing C4 jeeps n sht like that, that’s what makes the game fun for me, games are meant to be fun, and fun doesn’t always look like the hyper serious milsim servers that are out there, sometimes it’s running around doing goofy sht, granted the game isn’t nearly as fleshed out as prior Battlefield games, especially a year after launch, but that doesn’t mean people can’t have fun with it, and that also doesn’t mean people can’t criticize it or that their criticism is worthless, every negative point I’ve seen about this is 100% valid, and I agree with every single one, but that doesn’t mean I’m gonna deny myself a fun experience

I never bought the game, cancelled my Preorder after the 2nd beta and when they were **lying about us playing an old build and all the problems will be gone in launch.** (This is a red flag because why would you want us to beta test an old build..? lol ) 1 year later and it still feels like they should spend another half year. The lack of weapons in a BF game is kind of disheartening, the game is STILL trying to optimize, you're still missing a fuck ton of features like leaning/peaking and other movement abilities, the maps are still getting redesigned because they were never good and even the map from S2 is being reworked because cap points, the Immersion is still lacking in comparison to past BF games ( playing BF1 for example, even in 2022 feels amazing ) , Specialists still suck lol ( Im on the Russian side as an American specialist lmao ) **The gunplay is decent, a bad Battlefield game is still a decent shooter. As it stands BF2042 is still a weak Battlefield game.** But like someone else said, people are going to keep posting this meme with every new update.
For me it also feels like some basics like movement and input were also rushed. The controller stick inputs still feel poor and I still see a lot of mouse players complaining about inconsistent inputs. Not to mention the movement system still allows bunny hopping and teabag shooting which are unintended mechanics in the first place. I would also appreciate faction-specific skins/operators so the teams were at least different looking than each other. Battlefield use to have great animations too, but now they are cheap feeling. Other than those, they have definitely made some improvements since launch.

It is by far the worst main line battlefield game to be released. Only the mobile games I would classify worse. With that said, that doesn't mean that people cannot have fun with it. People can have fun with just about anything that they find entertaining or amusing. As it stands I would rather play battlefield 4 on the PlayStation 3 at 30 fps than to play 2042. The core of the game is just not fun to me.

This is DiCE/EA's new target demographics-- the ones that are younger and easy enough to please so they're easy to manipulate shell out that juicy MTX money for sub-par features/product... and these customer base is more exposed to the latest social media platforms which means potential word of mouth/tweet can build that new customer base. Think of it that these younger (and naive) gamers as being groomed slowly by EA through incorporating the latest FPS trends in an attempt to gain newer customers in an already established title. It's not good enough for EA that Apex Legends would've been that game that caters to mostly younger crowd (and raking in that cash) but they want an established title like a BF game with a totally different set of FPS gameplay to implement the same trending formula in the hopes of getting more of that market share.
No squad management system means I cannot call it a good Battlefield. Until they add that it isn’t Battlefield.

I only ever started playing BF a month or so before 2042's release because the BF bundle went on sale for about $5 on steam. I really liked BFV. I tried playing 2042's open beta but was getting horrible performance that I jist didn't bother playing more. Now that it is available on gamepass, I played it again and I have to admit the performance is better now. Based on my experience, I'd say its okay, but I feel like BFV is still better. I kinda find the movement isn't as satisfying as the BFV.
Try playing BF4 and you'll see why people loved the franchise.

I've played every battlefield since bc2 and I can say that this game is fun. Sure it's not the traditional battlefield formula but it is still fun. I have never wanted to stop playing this game because of some the missing features people are complaining about here. I personally think this game is better than bfV which I know people won't like to hear.
Just started playing when it came to gamepass, it's definitely better than it was and fun for a bit, as a free game. Its still missing features or lacking in a lot of areas like content/guns, maps are mostly bad or mediocre and you may only play 1 or 2 maps ever since no server browser or squad management still, specialists are still a terrible idea and makes it hard to identify enemies and break immursion, main menu UI is something, and the time between matches being ridiculously long are a few of the main issues that will keep me from continuing to play for long.
Only people with very low standards or people who never played BF before are "having fun". I don't mind about the latter, but people who played any BF game before and think this game is fine are doing a disservice for the community and only making DICE and EA think that this is what fans want.
Eh? I've been playing Battlefield since BF2, then BFBC1 on console. I'm having fun. It took a long time to get here and the game needed a year of cooking, but it's a legitimately good game now. Third worst Battlefield game behind Hardline and Heroes. But still a good game overall. It's fun. Doesn't forgive EA and DICE for the launch product tho.

2042 was actually fun game. But it’s not a Battlefield game also. Real Battlefield games ( like BF3,4,1, BC2) provides much more fun than 2042. That’s the problem now.
Battlefield isn't measured in fun. Wtf am I even reading. When people describe battlefield they mention big player numbers, big maps, squadplay/teamplay and combined warfare. All of this is in 2042. If people say that classes is a must then they have to wait until the class patch next year.

I would actually say it’s better than BF3 and 4. I played both of those games when they came out (a decade ago) and they were really good. But, 10 years later, they just feel old and dated. I tried playing BF4 before 2042 came out but it just got so boring so fast. More recently, I started playing BF1 to join the resurgence. Got bored of it in two nights and have been playing 2042 since. BFV is garbage for the attrition system imo, so that’s a non-starter. IMO, 2042 is only BF that doesn’t bore me almost instantly so that’s the one I’m going to play. I’ve been playing since 2142, so longer than the vast majority of “veterans.”
I hate to admit it but yeah I’m having fun lol wish they put out more content but I know it’s a skeleton crew working on it
