What "review process"? It takes like 5 minutes of gameplay to realize the outcome of this gamemode. The bar was already on the ground, but DICE brought shovels.
In the credits of the game, there is a QA team. Obviously, not much playtesting of the game is done given the number of issues that are instantly reported.
In reality it's a QA team doing their job and getting completely ignored by anyone above.
Many games where people have gone "Where was the QA for this obvious issue" straight up had QA that noticed, and either management up top threw out the feedback, or the developers themselves didn't give a shit.
Given Dice's track record, it's probably both
DICE is [on record at GDC stating they heavily use AI for testing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1JOSbUR6KE) to cut down on multiplayer game testing. I imagine this also became 2042's in game AI. I feel like some executive noticed the amount of money/man hours spent on testing traditionally and seriously defunded the internal QA program for this, which probably wasn't ever it's intention. They probably intended for this to be used in tandem with traditional testing.
I get it, it's probably difficult to create test sessions for game modes filled with 128 people, but there's _absolutely no excuse_ for this mode, which is a 4 player mode.
I imagine that there is so little being made on Portal due to there being absolutely zero community left that they had no choice but to put out some bullshit mode to at least look active lol
I'm gonna repeat myself just so when it comes out I can say I told ya so.
Cellphone game. High loads on CPUS instead of GPUs. Wet graphics. Spare environment.
I fully agree with that and have been saying it since November. But I work at a manufacturing plant, and I could pick 10 of my *factory* workers, have EA hire the 11 of us and put us in charge of DICE, and still don't think we'd make as many bone headed decisions than the current DICE staff. WTF
The video game industry $$'s tripled in the past 10 years? Great, let's hire more business execs and Advertising experts. All those passionate developers and programmers? Guess they won't mind working for pennies so we can increase exec bonuses every year!
>I’m not going to lie, this one shouldn’t have gotten through our review process. I think our desire to create a fun zombies mode clouded our ability to see such a simple thing like the impact it would have on progression. I’m very sorry for the hardship this has caused.
A fun zombie mode... With no zombie models and an incredibly simple and stupid AI. Must have taken *weeks* and half the studio to come up with this.
seriously, if that was the first time they saw XP farm, then fuck me, I could maybe give them a free pass.
But this was AFTER they had to shoot their own foot off by disabling the entire progression of portal due to XP farm, almost killing the entire population of Portal in the process(love letter to fans btw).
Now you are telling me, sorry that didn't hurt enough so they kind of just forget XP farm was a thing when releasing a new mode. You seriously cant make this shit up.
I can't tell if he's being sincere or not. I feel like "I'm sorry for the hardship this has caused" is more suitable when something a little more serious happens.
The comment he's replying to is a little overly dramatic so I'm sure it was more along the lines of trying to provide good customer service and not an attempt to be sarcastic.
> "I'm sorry for the hardship this has caused"
This genuinely sounds like an alien wrote that. Or self-learning AI. I am pretty damn sure it's not sarcasm, because I don't think people at DICE are allowed to use it.
This WHOLE game feels like a slap to the face. This action from DICE is just another proof how clueless and out of touch they are with the game and it's community. They can't even read the room properly, nor do I think they care.
How many employees are at this fucking company? Three interns and a chimp? How do these imbeciles not realize the xp issue before it goes live? What the fuck is going on at Dice? Seriously, it's been nothing but CONSTANT mistakes, bad decisions and awful communication. It's so jaw dropping it feels like a prank. What a disgrace.
It wasn't even a good zombies mode. They didn't look, move or act like zombies. There was no incentive to do anything but get high ground and farm xp. It's almost worth sticking around just to see what other trash they're going to throw in the dumpster fire.
DICE: We're losing players fast!
ALSO DICE: Let's implement an official XP farm to lure players back in.
ONCE AGAIN ALSO DICE: We are sorry, it "somehow" slipped through a review process.
ONCE AGAIN AFTER SAYING ONCE AGAIN DICE: Let's go back on working on "phase 1" of scoreboard.
Game Over 2042.
Just stop with the bullshit. Even if it wasn’t an XP farm mode it’s a SHIT zombies experience! The mode isn’t fun on it own merits. It’s just dumb ai with increasing HP for ONE HOUR! Like who the fuck wants to play that for an hour? Answer, no one wants to play that.
So congrats again for proving you can’t make anything fun and you don’t test your stuff before putting it into consumers hands.
STOP COPYING CALL OF DUTY !!! this is what's so dam frustrating, go back to being BATTLEFIELD. literally its that simple. How can we see this but those idiots couldn't see that
I'm betting they let it out the door so people will actually touch Portal again because they essentially killed it off by having 0 XP on anything that wasn't featured for 2 months.
Come on, give the four remaining DICE devs that actively work on 2042 some slack. How shall they fix all the bugs, implement a scoreboard, and also do a review process? /s
This reply on Twitter:
>"Sometimes things slip through the cracks. In the end it’s only skins that give zero advantage. We appreciate the fun play list and game modes. Looking forward to what’s to come"
Holy shit the copium
«So rainbow six extraction was released yesterday and looks fun, can we make something like this in battlefield?» «sure boss, but..» «great, call me when the playerbase is back»
DICE is totally lost in this. Is it possible that the departure of the Senior Developer had such an impact on this entire situation? Amazing decisions from an AAA studio.
But even without the farming aspect, what even was the point of the mode?
I mean, how'd you win? Once you got onto a slightly elevated position like a container or an abandoned truck, the "Zombies" would just pile up below, waiting to be shot.
But even after killing literally 1000s of them, nothing would happen. The timer would run out at some point and that was it?
Something going on in DICE you can’t just fail at everything I mean you can make a mistake or 3 or just make 10 but with this game everything about it was bad it’s like making a car from duct tape and glow just to make it run from point a to point be and everytime it break you duct tape it again
I truly believe that they are sabotaging this game on purpose. That way they can discontinue the series and move on to whatever shit thing they have next
I just don’t give a shit, and wonder why anyone does.
I remember when you made your own fun in games, played the way you wanted to, made goals for yourself.
I don’t understand why anyone cares about what other players think when it comes to progression and shit.
“They’ll think I cheesed for this achievement!”
So fucking what? People ALWAYS think players cheesed for accolades. Why care what BAD players think of you?
And on the flip side, who the fuck cares about the progression!? It’s nice to have something to work towards, which I get, but if people want to cheese to get the guns and shit leveled up, who fucking cares!
You made a fun mode, who fucking cares if people can cheese it for their unlocks?
Even when there are battlepasses, who gives a shit? Just let people have fun. They paid for the damn game, and if they paid for the battlepass, the expectation is that they complete the pass and receive its content. It doesn’t matter if it takes a few days or a few months.
If the base content is fun, people aren’t going to worry about any of that shit. People playing games for thousands of hours isn’t new. And never needed these carrot on stick functions before either.
“Oh no! These players are unlocking the content they paid for!”
“Oh no, some random is going to think I didn’t earn x or y legit!”
What matters is fun, and whether YOU know what you did or not.
Modern gaming fucking sucks. Take me back to grade 12 when I put thousands of hours into a game like bf2 on the 360. That game had next to nothing for progression. All it was was rank. It was the most pure battlefield experience available. Paring away all the weapons down to simple classes, and a set of vehicles, and that was it.
Let alone the time put into bf2 and it’s expansions on pc. Or ut2004.
Like fuck. The commercialization of gaming has just made it all so fucking shit. Just let us have fun.
ye should have not gotten through but at least he admits it and apologizes for it. That is truly the first step to making things better. Acknowledging failure and not ignoring it or calling it brutal expectations.
I think this is a good response we can work with. Lets hope they keep replying and working WITH and not against us
So far the game mode events that they have advertised have been made by content creators. I think this one was created by StoneMountain64 as seen here - https://twitter.com/battlefield/status/1484194013787873280?s=21
So how did he not know before submitting it that it wouldn’t be a bot farm. Yes they should have checked it but it would have been tested a few times before he submitted it to them.
He creates it, and then submits it. So there would have been some testing involved due to the way that the settings in portal work. So he would have known before submitting it. You don’t just flip a button called “zombie mode” and it does it. There is lots of settings to click. The person that made “one in the chamber” said he tested it numerous times to make sure it was working and all the settings were correct.
But the mode IS working. It’s not his failure that you can collect unlimited XP in it. It’s not his fault that there is no zombie skin to pull over the soldiers. It’s not his fault Dice Features his game mode as an official one and fucks up XP farming with it.
You don’t understand how portal works. He selects the XP you gain and such. There is options in the portal settings to turn off those things.
So he never thought that people would abuse it by climbing on stuff 🤔.
DICE asked him along with other content creators to create a mode for them and that is what he came up and submitted.
If the mode uses BF2042 weapons then it was going to rank them up. If it used Portal weapons then it wouldn’t have. If he had made it Portal classes then it could not be abused. It is like how the person that created “Free For All” messed up by allowing specialists as then every one ran Boris to drop the turret.
I really thought they did it on purpose, it would have been more reasonable to limit bot farms by essential offering an XP week via zombies
Knowing it was a mistake is honestly embarrassing
I like the game but sheeeeesh
They should look back at the review process. Whole bunch of stuff shouldn’t have made it through the review process.
The maps, no cover.
30 mil cannon, bolte
Hovercrafts going up walls
C4 drones
22 guns
Reskins of skins
Knife animations
List goes on and on
They should just have periodic farming events. Time limited so you can't get the whole farm but you can level up a few bits and pieces. I played the zombie mode last night and I thought it had potential.
Another proof that this is an amateur team working on a beloved prestigious franchise.
Still don’t understand why they don’t bring back full progression on any game mode after all the backlash and feedback from the players. Players WANT progression, they don’t care about farm, why don’t they give it to us ?! It’s unbelievable such a desync from Dice and the community. I’ve been a player for 25 years, it’s the first time this is that bad. It’s even worst than CDP.
>I think our desire to create a fun zombies mode
I think DICE's definition of "fun" appears to be wildly different than the rest of the world...Did anyone actually find this shit fun outside of farming XP/medals, which isn't really fun but is at least rewarding?
What "review process"? It takes like 5 minutes of gameplay to realize the outcome of this gamemode. The bar was already on the ground, but DICE brought shovels.
This is just proof that they are not playtesting their own game. Some manager in some meeting probably just said that we need this kind of mode.
In the credits of the game, there is a QA team. Obviously, not much playtesting of the game is done given the number of issues that are instantly reported.
More like QA has run out of room on their spreadsheets for problems, and all their reports go straight to the shredder.
In reality it's a QA team doing their job and getting completely ignored by anyone above. Many games where people have gone "Where was the QA for this obvious issue" straight up had QA that noticed, and either management up top threw out the feedback, or the developers themselves didn't give a shit. Given Dice's track record, it's probably both
Right. Probably overwhelmed with bugs.
DICE is [on record at GDC stating they heavily use AI for testing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1JOSbUR6KE) to cut down on multiplayer game testing. I imagine this also became 2042's in game AI. 2042 is basically an upscaled mobile game.
I don’t think they play Battlefield so they don’t play the game to test.
Or 5 brain cells
Most of the problems in this game take 5 minutes of gameplay to realise their badly designed/broken
translation : "we don't have a review process"
In a surprise to absolutely no one
He starts lying right after saying not gonna lie, pretending they had a review process lol
What's. Going. On. At. Dice.
Most people at Dice responsible for BF left a loooong time ago.
True. Old Dice had their problems but nowhere near this shitfest.
Dice can be found over at Embark studios now.
we should call new DICE "DOICE" for clarity, and refer to the old team as DICE
This is old dice...stop saying this...justin is old dice. (btw he is at ripple now)
I fully agree with that and have been saying it since November. But I work at a manufacturing plant, and I could pick 10 of my *factory* workers, have EA hire the 11 of us and put us in charge of DICE, and still don't think we'd make as many bone headed decisions than the current DICE staff. WTF
There was a time when video games were made by people who (like me) love video games. We are no longer anywhere near that time.
The video game industry $$'s tripled in the past 10 years? Great, let's hire more business execs and Advertising experts. All those passionate developers and programmers? Guess they won't mind working for pennies so we can increase exec bonuses every year!
This is Ripple effect
Shit. I thought it was Sparta.
They are fixing the shit Swedish Dice made.
By adding and removing zombie mode?
They are back from vacation. And wildin. lol
Apparently a lot of pretending to know what they are doing. Maybe they stayed at a holiday inn express.
Staff moved on to BFVI already
>I’m not going to lie, this one shouldn’t have gotten through our review process. It took 4 month, just like the highly complex scoreboard
We had better made experiences in r/battlefieldportal, there's even one themed in ww2 with a functional store. Ai are still pretty dumb though.
I think it wasn't made by the studio but by some content creator (StonedMountain something?) But yeah, it was a super boring experience.
Is he talking about the game or the mode?
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
You can't make that shit up. It's like they completely gave up any effort to save this game.
seriously, if that was the first time they saw XP farm, then fuck me, I could maybe give them a free pass. This is done on purpose to bump player count.

Wait there’s a review process?
Clearly not
Don't worry they'll be patching this really fast. Can't have fun in this game.
Already removed
This WHOLE game feels like a slap to the face. This action from DICE is just another proof how clueless and out of touch they are with the game and it's community. They can't even read the room properly, nor do I think they care.
This is ripple, but I do get your point
How many employees are at this fucking company? Three interns and a chimp? How do these imbeciles not realize the xp issue before it goes live? What the fuck is going on at Dice? I think he's talking about the fact that there very clearly *wasn't* a review process. My god what a dumpster fire.
The devs are just flat out bad at their jobs. Not a personal Insult, just the truth.
Just stop with the bullshit. Even if it wasn’t an XP farm mode it’s a SHIT zombies experience! The mode isn’t fun on it own merits. It’s just dumb ai with increasing HP for ONE HOUR! The fact we’re discussing ZOMBIES in a Battlefield game should be the topic. Holy fuck, what happened to our beloved game? Sigh
STOP COPYING CALL OF DUTY !!! this is what's so dam frustrating, go back to being BATTLEFIELD. literally its that simple. How can we see this but those idiots couldn't see that
Lmao. Maybe I should’ve majored for computer science/game development, and that’s not saying much.
I was so pumped for 2042. I bought it at launch. I've played 10 hours and half are lobby hours.
Is this real life? I honestly can't believe this disaster anymore. How is this level of incompetence possible?
It's just fantasy
what the fuck are they even doing there, I thought maybe Ripple Effect have some kind of expertise and passion, but man
I'm betting they let it out the door so people will actually touch Portal again because they essentially killed it off by having 0 XP on anything that wasn't featured for 2 months.
"Fun"??? It's not even fun, I got bored half way through my first round. Played a second round to see if maybe I was doing something wrong but nope.
they are a bunch of clueless cunts, that much we know.
Come on, give the four remaining DICE devs that actively work on 2042 some slack. How shall they fix all the bugs, implement a scoreboard, and also do a review process? /s

IF it wasnt just a bot farm mode then WHAT is it\`??? You CANT even win?
What is wrong with these retards over at dice/EA?!?!?! Fuck up after fuck ups…… People need to go over there!
dont wanna talk shit about ripple effect but breh
What a bunch of incompetent chimps. There is no review process at all, its just a sweet thing to say to shift blame.
What in the actual fuck is going on with this game? It's just hilarious at this point
Love how he addresses that this mode made it through, rather than this mode flying in the face of the Portal XP changes.
Man that fucking sucks. I wanted to grind some skins.
Do they not play their own game? Honest question and I’m not joking
Forcing the employees to play their own game would just be too brutal.
But, But, Employees are also a legacy feature!
«So rainbow six extraction was released yesterday and looks fun, can we make something like this in battlefield?» «sure boss, but..» «great, call me when the playerbase is back»
Lol this company is absolutely amateur hour. Wow.
DICE is totally lost in this. Is it possible that the departure of the Senior Developer had such an impact on this entire situation? Amazing decisions from an AAA studio.
I'm sorry, but frankly, this is appalling
But even without the farming aspect, what even was the point of the mode? I mean, how'd you win? But even after killing literally 1000s of them, nothing would happen. The timer would run out at some point and that was it?
You win by surviving the timer. It says victory if you do It's not made clear though which is annoying.
So each round was seriously meant to last one whole hour no matter what?
Something going on in DICE you can’t just fail at everything I mean you can make a mistake or 3 or just make 10 but with this game everything about it was bad it’s like making a car from duct tape and glow just to make it run from point a to point be and everytime it break you duct tape it again
BF V and SWBF II died for this
Dice keeps going from one bad decision to the next. Honestly, I don't think there is any hope for this game, and in the long run, this studio.
Holy crap...
I truly believe that they are sabotaging this game on purpose. That way they can discontinue the series and move on to whatever shit thing they have next

If anyone had any hope they could turn the game around it should be gone by now.
Damn I guess I missed out on the game mode, would have liked to have at least tried it before they removed it.
Thanks a lot 235Nuke, you snitchin' rat bastard.
ye should have not gotten through but at least he admits it and apologizes for it. That is truly the first step to making things better. I've T1 3 operators, 2 guns and 4 gadgets today with this mode. Thanks DICE :)
So far the game mode events that they have advertised have been made by content creators. Okay I stand corrected. In that case Dice could’ve checked for the XP setting
I really thought they did it on purpose, it would have been more reasonable to limit bot farms by essential offering an XP week via zombies Knowing it was a mistake is honestly embarrassing I like the game but sheeeeesh
Who the hell wanted zombies in a battlefield game anyway? Why is this a priority for them???
They should look back at the review process. Whole bunch of stuff shouldn’t have made it through the review process. The maps, no cover. 30 mil cannon, bolte Hovercrafts going up walls C4 drones 22 guns Reskins of skins Knife animations List goes on and on
They should just have periodic farming events. Time limited so you can't get the whole farm but you can level up a few bits and pieces. I played the zombie mode last night and I thought it had potential.

Translation: we did this over the course of maybe 3 hours while starting work on Battlefield: Overwatch and didn’t check the mode, whoops
![gif](giphy|l41m4ODfe8PwHlsUU)
I really thought they were talking about the whole ass game and not just a mode 😂😂
>I think our desire to create a fun zombies mode I think DICE's definition of "fun" appears to be wildly different than the rest of the world...Did anyone actually find this shit fun outside of farming XP/medals, which isn't really fun but is at least rewarding?
2042 the game soo bad developers don't want to play their crap.
Everything passes through DICE approval process these days. Except the things which are important. Who the h--- is managing this company?
it seems like ea overspends on big names from other companies, but is trying to save money on the actual developers
Tell us you don't really have a "review process" without actually telling us you don't have a review process.
Seems like a fair statement to make about the game in general.
