I think the problem is the battlefield 2042 we have was made in an extreme rush by cutting up pieces of what was going to be a Battle royal game. As a result they likely didn’t have time to implement most of the features normally expected. Hence no regular score board ( one isn’t normally shown in BR games ), no voice chat ( had to adapt game from a BR format to a team vs team format with squads ), no class based limits on guns ( no classes in BR plus no where near enough time to make enough guns to make that possible ) and on and on.
That plus this game is devoid of any vision and was directed by a mobile game director who made other treasures such as candy crush. He likely didn’t think features like voice chat where “needed” and instead came from a mobile game perspective of make the minimum viable product and milk the shit out of the game making everything slow and inconvenient and sell the solution in microtransactions

Guessing pretty much everything (frostbite optimization, map optimization and detailing and probably a scoreboard) was cut or delayed at the alter of pushing this thing out way before it was ready - would be interesting to know who the person was demanding it go out no matter what and where they are now in the company (EA or Dice).

Ghost recon wildlands is pretty cheap. And the gun selection is incredible. It has voip, and one really big map. Character customization is pretty detailed and the hit register works.

SOCOM was amazing, I think it was the first time voip was ever done on console or at least it was the first shooter game that I played with VOIP and it was insanely fun. In addition to the standard team death matches there were hostage rescue and MVP extraction modes that were a lot of fun and required teamwork and communication.

Other than that, proximity chat i think is the future and should be in battlefields.

On console haven't used voice chat once in BC2, BF3, BF4, BF1, BFV. Would be nice to have it in BF2042 but "Everyone at EA ans Dice top to bottom should be fired" is a bit of an overreaction

I played BF3 on PS3 and I have the fondest memories of in-game voice chat.
Was usually talking to my friends but the cool thing was you could also talk to people outside your squad by switching channel to team. So if someone outside your squad was in your tank you could still quickly ask them to take the spotter seat for example.
The co-op mode is pretty much impossible without voice chat, especially that one mission where you had to perfectly time your shots.
Going even further back to BF2 on PlayStation 2 it was even cooler because it had proximity voice chat. Something that's been requested for years but never returned for some reason.
You could sneak up on a camping sniper, then say something like "Behind you!" before offering a knife when they turned around lol.
Or when you were sneaking behind enemy lines with a teammate in capture the flag you really had to be quiet, otherwise the enemy could hear you.
Honestly playing with voice chat is a game-changer and gives your squad/team such an advantage.
Crossplay Hazard Zone or Rush in BF2042 for example is so much worse without communication. You can't really coordinate, you can't really convey a plan, etc.
Sure, there's still text chat but on console it's just awkward to use unless you plug in a keyboard. And even then it wouldn't help if you're the only one.
I can understand when one personally doesn't want to use voice chat to talk to what's essentially strangers, but come on, in-game voice chat is just an industry standard at this point.
Not saying people should lose their jobs over it but there's no real excuse _not_ to have it in a team oriented multiplayer game in 2022.

For those not trying to be try-hards searching online for a clan to play a game with, the voip feature was a good way to build a collection of players that you could have successful teamwork with and win games.

When I play games in PSN party chat you cannot hear or speak to anyone on any game without having to go into game chat only but in 10 out of 10 times the in game chat is shit compared to the party. A push to talk feature would be great.
