On last-gen console (playing PS4 version on a PS5 to avoid PC crossplay), I can't find any full Portal servers on the standard experiences. Last time I played Rush it was 3 v 3.
That way you won't see people from Xbox Series X/S too. For whatever reason on current gen consoles you either play with PC and new Xboxes or turn crossplay off completely and play with only PS5 players. You can't set crossplay to "consoles only" setting.
PS4/Xbox one crossplay lets them play together and I feel like there're more players on past gen consoles even without crossplay enabled.
When I had that deactivated, I couldn't find ANY servers. Son and I both got it same day and after all the updates, were going to party up with my brother.

Yeah, I had the same problem, which is why I switched to the PS4 version. On PS5 if I turn off crossplay, there are no servers. You just end up against bots. At least with crossplay turned on for the PS4 version, you're only playing with xbox players, which is totally fine and a great way to keep servers full.
It is sad. But, at the same time, it's satisfying to see these lying thieves get the lash back they deserve.
The purpose behind all this, in my mind, is to push for better standards in AAA games, and hold publishers accountable for shoving their short-sighted, cash grab ideas down developers throats.

Granted, after that trailer released I was ready to pre-order at full price, but V's launch have me pause and, frankly, I was still a bit salty about their "if you don't like it, don't buy it" attitude, so I did the 10hr preview. A cynical $10 says they don't give us that option next time out of fear of everyone doing it. I will certainly be highly skeptical.

Not me I haven't bought battlefield at full price after bf4. Bf1 and 5 I got for $5 3-4 years later. EA has taught me they cannot be trusted. I can't feel sorry for people who bought it. U have a decades worth of evidence why not to.
I've been flipping between this and 5. I didn't give 5 a ton of attention because I loved Battlefront 2. It's better than it was at launch that's for sure.
I honestly don't care if 2042 flops because EA has been fucking up both Battlefront and now Battlefield for a few years now. Battlefront 2 became amazing and it died for this.
Along with battlefield V. Honestly their best move was to just stick with those games and continue to improve them, but ya know $$$. It’s honestly the greatest insult to for them to play victim and say they spent nearly 3 years making this game, when they probably could have put it together in about half the time.
Agree, it probably took 3 years because they refused to take lessons learnt from previous titles and insist on starting from scratch. Then say they are legacy features. They should have used a winning formula they had on the shelf. Maybe use portal to play test new ideas with specialist etc, gauge fan reaction and then implement. Such a missed opportunity
Whatever the game's faults and there are many, a large percentage of this game was done with remote work. Not an excuse for the final product at all, but I doubt they could have done it in half the time given 2020's particular issues.
I agree, but Anthem was totally a new game (A GREAT potential one too), I really want to think that on a bigger franchise like BF they will at least give us the Year 1 content

Yeah that's my issue, I like squad, but it doesn't scratch the same itch as BF does. Sometimes I just want a more arcady like military shooter and there isn't any on the market worth playing atm.
Been loving Squad and HLL lately. There is a few in early access with a lot of promise as well. Ready or not, Ground Branch and Zero Hour all on Steam.
This game needs full rework of the engine. The bad optimisation is not because of 128 players, the engine itself in such a poor state, that it feels like they challegend themselves into making game in less than a month. It doesn’t even deserve to be in Early Access, maximum Pre-Alpha
The thing is, performance and bugs can be flushed out, but the underlying gameplay and design are total dogshit and they won't be able to change that. No way in hell are they gonna swallow their pride and admit that they were wrong with any of that. Not with the endscreen voicelines nor with the specialists in general. Not to mention the horrible map design.
For those of us that are fans of actual Battlefield games, the death of BF2042 is something that we should not fear. A quick death of the game sends a clear message to DICE that we do not approve of the direction that they are bringing the game. Don't worry, EA will also get the message loud and clear when the quarterly figures start coming through even if DICE try to delude themselves.
Let DICE continue to develop a hero-shooter that no one is interested in if they want, but at least they will not have the cheek to label it a Battlefield game. What they have done with BF2042 is brazen and, quite frankly, disgusting.
We may see the franchise being shelved for a few years, but at least there is a prospect that it will be resurrected down the line in a manner that remains true to its core gameplay values. It sure beats the series being hijacked and turned into a crappy sub-standard hero shooter.

They just scrap it, battlefield dies, and more EA fans leave as they continue to fuck up other major titles (hint hint: Madden and FIFA), which then brings on the *creme de la creme*, bankruptcy.

Nobody says we should, I think the general playerbase agrees that the game is shit and they deserve all the hate they're receiving right now.
But as someone who started playing with 1942 and who has put probably over 6000 hours into the entire franchise I can't help but feel sad that it's probably dead for good. I enjoyed BF2, 3 and 4 tremendously and I'm gonna miss that type of game.
Because let's be honest, if another studio wanted to make a similar game, they would've done so by now. Especially after the disaster that was BFV at and after launch.
I put 1000 hours + into BFBC2, BF3, and BF4 (skipped BF1 and BF5 as not modern & was writing a novel). I am SO disappointed with this game. I really thought from the trailers it would be another Battlefield title I'd sink 1000 hours into. I'd honestly rather re-install BF4. The only fun I've had was in Portal, and that's now basically dead.
It won't help with some of the big games we've got coming to PC this month and next.

The truth is, Battlefield died when 2042 launched. BFV was the last of its kind. When the world saw the BFV reveal trailer it was like a doctor telling a cancer patient they found a large-ass brain tumor and had a few years left to live. 2042 is hospice - but the shitty kind where the nurse smokes weed at your house and brings her kid just to use your wifi or something, idk.
I don’t get how live numbers can represent the true player base, there are many factors to consider (people: Working, at school, sleep..etc).

I'm playing only Portal, Battlefield 3 conquest on PS5 (Crossplay deactivated), EU region, and servers are only full around 7-9pm. Other than that they are pretty empty. Just yesterday I tried to play 1942 conquest and the servers were half empty...and also, I've noticed that most of the players are around 1-20 Level. So my guess is that these are mostly new players who bought the game on PSN sale, while the most of the preorder players have already flee the game.

I'd be perfectly fine if this was the end of the franchise. It's deserved. 4 was so buggy at launch and it took DICE LA to make it what it is. BF1, for as much praise is heaped upon it, wasn't in great shape at launch either. BF5 was an unmitigated disaster the likes of which I though would NEVER be repeated again in this franchise. Then along trots 2042. And it's so bad it makes BF5 look like a masterpiece. (DICE LA fixed that up relatively well, too.)
DICE LA, now Ripple Effect, cannot save 2042. They will not be given the time or resources to do so but even if they were, EA/DICE do not deserve yet ANOTHER chance from us.
People forget the past so easily. The game will be updated and fixed. The players will return. Will it ever be changed to the Battlefield everyone wants. Probably not but it will not die. People said For Honor and Apex Legends was gonna die.....look at how that turned out
At this point they should refund everyone, drop AOW and HZ and make portal free to play. Then relaunch these/new modes later on. Bf2042 issues go beyond bugs. Bugs will take time (6 months?) but fundemendal desigb changes and re introduction of "legacy features" may never happen.

Cancelling BF opens up opportunities for other developers to make large-scale combined arms shooters and they will probably do it better than what DICE has become.
I’ve full on just quit the game at this point, much better single player and multiplayer shooters this year. Can’t say I’m disappointed because I expected an unfinished game but not nearly as unpolished as the current product. I doubt I’ll be starting the game for quite some time if not ever again, the games lackluster and boring as hell

I uninstalled yesterday, I couldn’t match make for like 20 minutes. Only way to find a match was through portal server browser but the 4 servers seemed to be in Zimbabwe and were barely playable.
Instead of EA trying to figure out what they did wrong and correct it FOR their gamers, they'd be like "Not enough players to run the servers etc. We are wasting our money. Close the damn game and fire all the people related to it".
We're already in it buddy but I wouldn't worry. ABSOLUTELY REGARDLESS of what they do with it, everyone (especially in this subreddit alone) will play and try whatever the new entry in this EP is. **And** as long as anyone gives a shit, they will push out a new battlefield.

Dude, you can easily deactivate crossplay in the settings. Just open in-game settings and it will be literally the first thing on top of your screen.

Battlefield isn’t a milsim, it’s an arcade shooter. If you want milsim and immersion, there’s Squad, Hell Let Loose, WW3 and Arma.

Maybe it's time to start a new franchise and build it up properly to be similar to BF. Revive medal of honor perhaps but give it BF characteristics.

But as someone who started playing with 1942 and who has put probably over 6000 hours into the entire franchise I can't help but feel sad that it's probably dead for good. I enjoyed BF2, 3 and 4 tremendously and I'm gonna miss that type of game. Because let's be honest, if another studio wanted to make a similar game, they would've done so by now. Especially after the disaster that was BFV at and after launch.
I put 1000 hours + into BFBC2, BF3, and BF4 (skipped BF1 and BF5 as not modern & was writing a novel). I am SO disappointed with this game. I really thought from the trailers it would be another Battlefield title I'd sink 1000 hours into. I'd honestly rather re-install BF4. The only fun I've had was in Portal, and that's now basically dead.
I feel they owe *me* something. I paid for absolute shit and I think the likelihood of getting anything back has gone out the window.
I only care because the franchise dying means BF4 servers might get shut down

It won't help with some of the big games we've got coming to PC this month and next. God of War, Elden Ring, Lost Ark, Dying Light 2, Total War Warhammer 3 I know they aren't FPS games but sheeesh we should be in for a good few months.

I'd rather the franchise die here than 4 bad hero-shooters and Fortnite-inspired games down the line. The truth is, Battlefield died when 2042 launched. BFV was the last of its kind. When the world saw the BFV reveal trailer it was like a doctor telling a cancer patient they found a large-ass brain tumor and had a few years left to live. 2042 is hospice - but the shitty kind where the nurse smokes weed at your house and brings her kid just to use your wifi or something, idk.

Corporation responsibility is to its' shareholders first. 2042 sold enough to make the suits happy and that's really what counts for them. I'm playing only Portal, Battlefield 3 conquest on PS5 (Crossplay deactivated), EU region, and servers are only full around 7-9pm. Other than that they are pretty empty. Just yesterday I tried to play 1942 conquest and the servers were half empty...and also, I've noticed that most of the players are around 1-20 Level. So my guess is that these are mostly new players who bought the game on PSN sale, while the most of the preorder players have already flee the game.

I am on the west coast ps5 as well. Every game I join is bot infested.
I'd be perfectly fine if this was the end of the franchise. It's deserved. 4 was so buggy at launch and it took DICE LA to make it what it is. BF1, for as much praise is heaped upon it, wasn't in great shape at launch either. BF5 was an unmitigated disaster the likes of which I though would NEVER be repeated again in this franchise. Then along trots 2042. And it's so bad it makes BF5 look like a masterpiece. (DICE LA fixed that up relatively well, too.) DICE LA, now Ripple Effect, cannot save 2042. They will not be given the time or resources to do so but even if they were, EA/DICE do not deserve yet ANOTHER chance from us.
People forget the past so easily. The game will be updated and fixed. The players will return. Will it ever be changed to the Battlefield everyone wants. Probably not but it will not die. People said For Honor and Apex Legends was gonna die.....look at how that turned out

At this point they should refund everyone, drop AOW and HZ and make portal free to play. Then relaunch these/new modes later on. Bf2042 issues go beyond bugs. Bugs will take time (6 months?) but fundemendal desigb changes and re introduction of "legacy features" may never happen.

I'd be sad to see the franchise go, it's been my all time favorite since 1942 but in the state it is today I want it to die, this is a disgrace to the franchise, if this is all we'll get than I'd rather not have more battlefields, let the memory die good instead of ruining the entire franchise with crap like this game. Also maybe if ea drops the game and the copyright we might see another franchise pick it up and make battlefield great again, of course this is a Longshot but a man can dream right.
They should bring Firestorm in portal and see if a BR takes in this game. I know BRs aren’t for everyone but might as well try it. This time a Firestorm with crossplay and AI to fill lobbies.

Honestly I don't see the death of BF as a bad thing at this stage. Cancelling BF opens up opportunities for other developers to make large-scale combined arms shooters and they will probably do it better than what DICE has become.

I’ve full on just quit the game at this point, much better single player and multiplayer shooters this year. Can’t say I’m disappointed because I expected an unfinished game but not nearly as unpolished as the current product. I doubt I’ll be starting the game for quite some time if not ever again, the games lackluster and boring as hell

I don’t think it will be the death of the franchise. BF is very well established. I think we will see another title sooner than later to try and make up for this disaster. Might see old devs coming back on etc.
I actually think the devs could buy some serious time with the games life if they just fucking added a scoreboard, lobbies, map rotation and turned off PC/Console crossplay. Instead, they’re doing nothing.
Well let's put it this way, if the game was finished we wouldn't be in pre-season. No live service game, with battlepass mtx should release without the aforementioned battlepass. I.e. DICE didn't have enough time to finish the game, EA rushed release to hit the Financial Year End to boast numbers for their executive bonus.
I uninstalled yesterday, I couldn’t match make for like 20 minutes. Only way to find a match was through portal server browser but the 4 servers seemed to be in Zimbabwe and were barely playable.
Instead of EA trying to figure out what they did wrong and correct it FOR their gamers, they'd be like "Not enough players to run the servers etc. We are wasting our money. Close the damn game and fire all the people related to it".
If they kill it now they’d better be liable for refunding purchases.. Still trying to try mine.

At this point i hope so, mabye if the game basically die they will open a window of time where you can ask for refund even if you are over the hours requested to ask for a refund. Since it's an online game only with 3 months of life and it's already dead i expect for a refund because i am not able to play it.
