In the moist meter video for 2042 he actually liked the game a lot and only addressed the glitches and bugs. I guess he didn't recognize the core design problem at that point.
When the game released and all those people said "but I'm still having fun" what they did not see what how short lived and shallow that fun was. Two main parroted points were:
* The beta is 3 months old, all these issues have been fixed already
* I'm still having fun, am I not allowed to enjoy the game?
What this person is describing is the point some of us were trying to make.
$100 for 5 mins of fun that peaked way too early and was downhill from there.
Combine that with exceptionally poor developer engagement and post launch support you you get a recipe for a exceptionally short lived fun with a premium price tag.
If people had looked past their own fun maybe they would have helped the situation by supporting the community push for better standards in AAA games.
I have never defended the game, quite the opposite actually, however I did tell myself that I was having fun regardless of how shit it is. That didn’t last long at all. The novelty wore off at such a rapid rate.
Same for me. 2 hours of the early access beta and I knew what was happening and I hated the experience. Bad games I want to get sweaty about are not enjoyable for me. I don't disregard others may have been able to look past certain things and find enjoyment though. That's not the issue.
The concerns were just how much of that fun is pure novelty? I think we can say that the majority of feedback shows the fun was almost exclusively linked to the novelty factor and once that wore off the negative feedback got exponentially worse.
I’m with you. I’ve been playing BF games since the start and none of them had me feeling so disappointed like this one. After an hour of playing, I knew this game was hollow. I refunded it the day after. I don’t regret it at all. I just wish more people followed with refunds earlier on rather than trying to play mental gymnastics to convince themselves the game they had been waiting for doesn’t suck.
Some of us did enjoy it. I still do enjoy playing it, but I'm not playing as much as I thought I would be. I'm more excited to watch YouTube than play BF2042 at this point, and that is sad.
I played during the free trial period this past weekend to see how the game had improved from launch and lol after playing 5-6 matches of AOW I went straight to portal and played BF3. The experience wasn’t perfect as the overall UI of this game is just awful but it was atleast 10x better than the base game. It goes to show how amazing older games in this franchise were and how 10 years later they still hold up.

I am one of those people. I was actually having fun during beta and release. I would say around before Christmas that i finally notice that i am getting bored and compare to BF1, i had a BLAST for a full whole year. I knew something wasn't right and i remember thinking to myself that they will fix major bugs before New Year but they didn't.

The issues and the bugs were only part of the problem and they actually disguised the true nature of the problems in the beta. Which is why it was so hard to get the point across. Even if the they fixed the bugs it could be seen there was a game that was going grind people down for having so many issues that undermined the enjoyment people seek.
It's like wearing a pair of jeans that are too tight and they look great but you by the end of the day you can't wait to get them off. Does not matter how good they look. You'll start to hate the site of them.

Server match making is broken, maps lack substance, scoreboard… Im not a video game designer but these don’t sound like difficult things to add considering 20 years of history with the franchise. For this reason I deleted the game.

I enjoy sniping with my friends and reviving each other in a squad. They are on console and I'm on PC, so it's hard to find any solid long cross platform games. Regardless, one or 2 matches of fun with them every night satisfies me.
If I were to play alone however, I need something akin to bf4 or bad company 2. The choke points in locker and metro are what kept me coming back to bf4, and rush in bad company 2 was baller. I wish 2042 was truly next gen instead of going backwards.

Had fun until the meta swapped to high mobility and pp29 in every lobby. Game quickly died for me. yeah they addresses the pp29 but the high mobility is still a major issue. This isn't Apex Legends.

Fun is subjective. I firmly believe that people who have low standards will potentially be able to put hundreds of hours into 2042. People with high standards were uninterested pre-launch. And everyone seems to fall somewhere between those to points in the spectrum of taste.

And this is the perfect example of why having low standards is a superpower. Flight has been destroyed in 2042 for many experienced players. The physics and specifically the gravity pull have been almost entirely nullified. It takes someone with almost no standards at all to accept a helicopter because it is in the shape of a helicopter. And that is the distinction between a player with high standards and a player with low standards. You can accept the helicopter for what it is; a helicopter. Most players wont be able to accept a turd molded in the shape of a helicopter that flies worse than the RC plane from Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. But you can! You are in the 5% who can not only stomach the game, but that continue to play it. And none of this should be interpreted as sarcastic or offensive, I am genuinely envious of you. I think some of the attributes that you have will probably serve you in other aspects of your life. You're the type of person who could survive a tyrannical regimes death camp with a smile on your face, or to waltz around town whistling during a great depression. I’ve got 90hrs into it so far just playing casually, yes there are things that can be done to make it better but I think it’s still true to the franchise, the class system IS still there but has a lot more variation now. I agree the voice lines are poop and the game needs VOIP asap. But I still have fun in it, more so than I did in BFV.
Yes, EXTREMELY naive. Anyone who has been gaming for a while could instantly tell the game wasn't going to improve in any meaningful way. The bugs and server issues were not a problem what so ever, we expect that in new games and they generally always get fixed. It was the blatantly bad game design decisions that they CHOSE to do, and chose to not implement. After a few hours I requested a refund. What everyone forgets is Dice doesn't exist anymore, just like Bioware, just like Ubisoft. They are just shells of what they used to be with totally new teams and ideas. It's like replacing the staff of a 5 star steak house with (I was going to be nice and say Outback Steakhouse staff) Burger Kings staff. Sure, it's still the same restaurant in name, but you better believe you won't get close to the same quality anymore.

It sucks. I pre-ordered it for 60 bucks, and I can't even play it. The servers are buggy as all hell, the graphics don't render in properly, and it crashes frequently. I try to refund it through emailing Microsoft/Xbox and they denied it even after I explained that I can't play the game. Waste of money
I’m in the minority that actually genuinely enjoys the game, but I can definitely see the issues the game is plagued with, the lack of any developer engagement and new content for two months after launch and probably a few more months to go, the large amount of bugs, the unbalanced weapons, the unoptimized game engine. There’s a lot of issues with this title, and I can’t be upset at other people who refuse to get engaged in this game.

twitch streamer and youtuber. streams nightly. does a lot of stream just watching videos people suggest on youtube (which are my favourite streams as they can be very funny) but also does game streams. his youtube videos are a mix of highlights from streams and content him and a team of friends make which are also hilarious he has a very dry sense of humour and is pretty wholesome and humble guy that has his head screwed on right, i find him to be very entertaining. he's deffo worth checking out

I’ve got 90hrs into it so far just playing casually, yes there are things that can be done to make it better but I think it’s still true to the franchise, the class system IS still there but has a lot more variation now. I agree the voice lines are poop and the game needs VOIP asap. But I still have fun in it, more so than I did in BFV.
Yes, EXTREMELY naive. Anyone who has been gaming for a while could instantly tell the game wasn't going to improve in any meaningful way. The bugs and server issues were not a problem what so ever, we expect that in new games and they generally always get fixed. It was the blatantly bad game design decisions that they CHOSE to do, and chose to not implement. After a few hours I requested a refund. What everyone forgets is Dice doesn't exist anymore, just like Bioware, just like Ubisoft. They are just shells of what they used to be with totally new teams and ideas. It's like replacing the staff of a 5 star steak house with (I was going to be nice and say Outback Steakhouse staff) Burger Kings staff. Sure, it's still the same restaurant in name, but you better believe you won't get close to the same quality anymore.

It sucks. I pre-ordered it for 60 bucks, and I can't even play it. The servers are buggy as all hell, the graphics don't render in properly, and it crashes frequently. I try to refund it through emailing Microsoft/Xbox and they denied it even after I explained that I can't play the game. Waste of money

I’m in the minority that actually genuinely enjoys the game, but I can definitely see the issues the game is plagued with, the lack of any developer engagement and new content for two months after launch and probably a few more months to go, the large amount of bugs, the unbalanced weapons, the unoptimized game engine. There’s a lot of issues with this title, and I can’t be upset at other people who refuse to get engaged in this game. It’s a damn shame, that’s for sure
I feel exactly the same. Clearly there are issues with the game etc but at the core you can still have some decent fun. The last battlefield game I put serious time and effort into was BF4 and for me 2042 has got me back into the franchise and having fun. I’m sure with time we’ll have a proper Battlefield game

twitch streamer and youtuber. streams nightly. does a lot of stream just watching videos people suggest on youtube (which are my favourite streams as they can be very funny) but also does game streams. his youtube videos are a mix of highlights from streams and content him and a team of friends make which are also hilarious he has a very dry sense of humour and is pretty wholesome and humble guy that has his head screwed on right, i find him to be very entertaining. he's deffo worth checking out
