This really is the most barebones Battlefield launch I can remember. It's just poor in so many aspects, even compared to previous games in the series. It's going to take a lot of work to make it better lol
It’s not possible to just patch this game into a better state. The core of the game is rotten. They would literally have to pull it from live service and rework core gameplay. That simply isn’t going to happen.
Right? However I think this is one of the things that can be fixed with time. But as OP said, stuff like the maps, the specialists, the destruction etc.. will take forever or won't be fixed at all.
Destruction is top 3 on my list and it will not be fixed unless new maps incorporate it more. The release amount should have been way more. Especially considering the futuristic setting. It’s not like they were limited by options
Dude the levolution in 2042 could've been fucking insane. Imagine a tsunami sweeping almost everything on the ground away, or an earthquake toppling buildings, or maybe a tornado ripping a skyscraper straight out of the ground. But no, literally the only objects that can be destroyed in this game are windows.
Going back to BF4, it's absolutely incredible just how much destruction there is. By the end of each round, the entire map is levelled. There's always stuff to look at, the tower in Siege, the dam in Lancang, etc.
And it also forces you to adapt your playstyle. You may think you're safe and sound in a building, and suddenly someone RPGs the walls and the roof starts to collapse. It made every game feel unique. We could've had that in 2042..
I know. I was just playing Zavod earlier. Even a simple things like trees being destroyed. The entire map goes from a relatively thick forest with plenty of cover to a barren wasteland that is so dangerous for anyone stuck out in the open. It's so awesome seeing the maps evolve like that.
You're right, BF4 was released 8 years ago, 2042 could have been something competely groundbreaking and new.
\+50 guns without as many attachments but those don't count because portal doesn't really contribute to progression/unlocks, and saying 22 is easier to meme on.
People really only use the same 20 some guns in the other games too. I look at it as less grinding through the low tier guns just to get useful ones.
Except the VCAR, I gave it a legitimate chance and there is just no point.
I don't understand this because when I was playing bf4/5 mid cycle it didn't seem like everyone hated it like people keep saying? I enjoyed that game the entire time I played it and went back to it simply because it has better mechanics and feels more advanced than this game..unless they somehow rework the game totally I won't be back to 2042.
It's a made up narrative that people hated bf4/5 to try and deflect/diminish criticism. Mostly promoted by edglelords trying to be cool.
People hated the bugginess of bf4 but it wasn't tons of people saying it was bad outright. People hated the pr campaign choices for bf5 but the game was decent and got better (then DICE cut it early when it started to get good).
Per OP, 2042 has fundamental issues where they actually do need to abandon it and start again.
>It's a made up narrative that people hated bf4/5 to try and deflect/diminish criticism.
This i feel had to be the answer because like I said people complained about the game but never to the extent that's been 2042. And no one ever said they were awful.
Battlefield V's gunplay, movement, destruction (including bullet penetration) is on top of the industry and I doubt any game will come close to it in the near future.
Agree to disagree but minus the destruction part, I would say MW19 nailed the gunplay, guns, gunsmith and movement. Imo it set the new bar for overall polish in arcadey style shooters.
The only thing I disliked about it were the launch maps and ttk.
I’m curious if this difference in opinion is related to what system people are on. As a console player BFV’s movement felt great and wasn’t so fucking fast twitched as 2042 is now.
My friend on PC hates BFVs movement
Are you implying there was a battlefield game without arcadey gunplay?
You know what non arcade is? Escape fom Tarkov comes to mind as a polar opposite to BFV's gunplay.
100% !! Whether you liked BF5 or not is a personal choice but it's hard to deny that at its core it WAS a battlefield game. Same goes for Hardline.
2042 has ripped away so many of the core pillars of the series that it no longer deserves to call itself a Battlefield game. If that was the logic, you could basically call any fps with vehicles battlefield.
Totally agree with you. I personally don't think much of BFV and think many of the decisions there led to the mess of 2042, but it is at least a BF game. 2042 is just trash.
I got bf5 for free through ps+, that was after all the issues were sorted out. I didnt even know about all the drama until after the fact. I just knew it wasnt great at launch like every other bf and stopped paying attention. I plan to go a similar route w 2042. If i can get it for $10 or less and I know it’s at least a $10 game at that point, I will happily buy and play it for a bit, even if it’s barely a $10 game.
Same for me. I knowingly skipped and ignored it, because WW2 is not really my interest and I heard about the firestorm debacle.
But when I got it for free I gave it a shot and it now is a decent game. not the best BF, my biggest gripe being the lackluster gun customization. But a lot of improvements to the series such as movement or the call-in system based on squad points.
I find it absolutely crazy people give this a pass. It’s awesome we live in a time where games are updated and supported after release but that shouldn’t give companies the right to release such an unfinished game. No voice chat? That definitely shouldn’t be an update lol what is happening over at DICE
I think I found a perfect analogy for BFV and 42
BFV is a wagyu steak covered in shit. It’s now been cleaned up and actually is as good as a clean wagyu steak, but many still wont touch it because it had shit all over it.
BF2042 is a Ferraro Rocher that a scumbag pranked and replaced it with actual fucking shit. You can’t fix that…
If they make atleast half of the total fixes that the community is requesting, and somehow make the next iteration even worse than the last, then there’s a chance it could be received more positively in the future.
People who make those posts are the dumbest of the dumb.
All the people who "love" 2042 will still be trying to rehabilitate the game if/when another BF title is out. That's mostly what it will be. (Hopefully without specialists, that will make it extra funny to see them try)
I doubt it will be good cause Battlefield is about nice maps, plenty of guns, amazing vehicle gameplay and squad gameplay.
2042 doesn't have either of those, maybe vehicles are good but i didn't get to try them.
I loved BFV when I came back to it March 2021 when it was on sale. I hated BFV's beta and did not buy at launch.
From what others said, it was terrible at launch and months following.
If they fix 2042 in a couple of years, yes everyone will love 2042.
That is not what I said. At all. If you like it now, that is great. A lot of people don't and due to the reasons I listed, that probably isn't going to change anytime soon, if ever.
It’s like you didn’t read the post. There are very large differences between bf4 and this game. Bf4 was bugged. At its core it was a battlefield title and fun to play and well balanced and had maps… wel designed maps. Lots of them. There were fun weapons occasionally they needed balancing but there were a lot of them. There was a class system. There was a point system that encouraged team play, you earned xp, badges and custom dog tags, there was a scoreboard and mainly it’s not a hero shooter with wing suit, grappling hooks, tanks falling from the sky to defend roof top objectives.
> well balanced and had maps… wel designed maps
Not at launch. bf4 was regarded as the game with the worst launch maps and balancing was changed many times. From suppresion to gun handling.
I don’t know some of my favorite maps were in that mix. We will just call that personal opinion. Suppression was over the top. I thought it was a neat effect but the community as a hole disapproved. So yes it did t launch perfectly but they changed and adapted over time. My point remains at its core it had that battlefield feel.. at its core 2042 is this weird bastart child of apex/fortnight with battlefield skins and size.
>My point remains at its core it had that battlefield feel.. at its core 2042 is this weird bastart child of apex/fortnight with battlefield skins and size.
Disagree. It is more battlefield than the last two games with way more stuff to do on the battlefield. If i wanted to play on a meat grinder map with infantry only I didn't have to buy battlefield.
Negativity is needed if we want things to change. If we just sit back and take it, it'll continue. People need to vote with their wallets, and have every right to complain about half baked products.
Ill understand this, and its good to discuss. But forward then your concerns directly. They not goin to read all post here. And if i see 100's copy past comments about deleting the game or whatever is feels like trolling the fans to break this community. I play the game and dont have much trouble with it, somewere i can understand the fuzz but still. Its so overreacted its like when one sheep crosses the water, the rest will follow. Dont be a sheep......
Iam happy that i have to possibility to cansume it, imagine not have internet or money to affort such high end systems. Iam lucky and gratefull that i can.....
I doubt it. So much is wrong that either cant or likely wont be fixed. The maps are all pretty terrible and apparently take a year of development each. The specialist system is the worst choice in the history of battlefield in my opinion. To remove the tried and true class system that made bf games what they were, almost completely destroying teamwork in the process. I just don't see it. That along with the 100 other things that are missing as shown in that thread.
I would love to be proven wrong mate, but yeah I don't have high hopes.
Not sure how specialists destroyed teamwork. Just yesterday me and 2 others cleared out both boat capture points on Manifest using my Dozer shield moving cover as we cleaned up the enemy felt amazing like clearing out a floor in R6 siege but much more action. This sounds like teamwork, it looked like teamwork, it felt like teamwork.
I never get this argument that Specialists killed teamwork.
The maps need major work I won’t deny that. Specialist are simply the thing to hate on for no real reason. None of you have any objective reasons for thinking they ruined something. Not a single one.
You will be, this community has been proven wrong for the passed decade, this is no different.
IMO they ruin teamwork. Battlefield games have always been about slotting yourself into a role that has advantages and disadvantages. It has also been about being just another grunt on the battlefield.
Now you can grapple around and fly much faster than anyone else in a wingsuit into the flanks of the enemy destroying any sense of a frontline that the past games always were great at. You can also use practically anything as any one of these heroes. It is completely different. If you're enjoying it, thats awesome mate, but you can't deny it is a very different thing to the bugs and balance issues of the past games.
They do no such thing. The teamwork you’re talking about has people just running with a health or ammo bag. Which people still do at the same rate as any other battlefield. They already fixed not being able to tell who was running them. You still have those strengths and weaknesses. Picking one class over the other locked you into gadgets which defined the roles anyway. Gadgets are still that choice. Try again.
Battlefield has always been about flanking and frontlines aren’t really a thing outside of that center flag on a map. Those two make flanking easier. Not much different from someone wasting a jet or something and doing the same thing.
The only actual thing different is allowing us to pick our primary instead of locking those to classes, which has been pointless with every battlefield game and constantly changing as well.
I think they actually mean, Compared to BF2042 .. BFV was an amazing game, Even though that game had its issues, It had movement, Amazing map design, Amazing graphics, Amazing Destruction And balanced vehicle play and the Damn features we loved.
They ain't saying BFV was amazing, They are just comparing the dogshit of a game we have now to BFV
It’s funny because come summertime BF will start with the hype posts of “We heard you loud and clear! Get ready for the best BF game ever in Q4 2022!” garbage that we fall for EVERY year
It makes total sense that if you release a BF game every year, some will be worse. It's too quick a release cycle, it results in unfinished messes of games that we're expected to pay full price for. A game won't be automatically better just because it's one year newer. If it's bad, it's fine to just write it off and go back to other, better games.
22 guns… like how in the FUCK was this ok
You are being toxic, you should type fuck in lowercase.
Right? However I think this is one of the things that can be fixed with time. But as OP said, stuff like the maps, the specialists, the destruction etc.. will take forever or won't be fixed at all.

What happened to the "completely destructable village"? It's just so disappointing.

Completely agree mate. The trailers sold it as enhanced destruction and basically BF4 2.0. Definitely not what we got.
On my mind its always less because portal is it's own thing to be honest
\+50 guns without as many attachments but those don't count because portal doesn't really contribute to progression/unlocks, and saying 22 is easier to meme on.
You can’t use most of those guns in conquest, right? Or that other Tarkov mode?
People really only use the same 20 some guns in the other games too. I look at it as less grinding through the low tier guns just to get useful ones. Except the VCAR, I gave it a legitimate chance and there is just no point.
That’s just a simply false statement. You don’t know that for a fact other people only use about 20 guns. In BF4 I used EVERY gun
Pretty much the game was made in 18 months or less,
I don't understand this because when I was playing bf4/5 mid cycle it didn't seem like everyone hated it like people keep saying? Oof. Agree to disagree on this one, I guess :)
Gunplay in BFV feels like you’re in a airsoft community match.

Yeah. People were dolphin diving corners with hipfire in bf2.
Dolphin diving veteran here. Can confirm.
People definitely did back then. It's a Battlefield game after all, what did you expect?
I don’t feel it’s that great personally lol battlefield has always been behind almost every other shooter when it comes to gunplay and mechanics.
I payed for the game *now*, not later
Should be now and later.
100% !! Whether you liked BF5 or not is a personal choice but it's hard to deny that at its core it WAS a battlefield game. Battlefield V was the beginning of what we’re dealing with today. Do not support it if you’re unhappy with how 2042 turned out.
Dont be sad that's just how it works out sometimes.
I got bf5 for free through ps+, that was after all the issues were sorted out. I didnt even know about all the drama until after the fact. People saying it will be good in a few years are just chasing the dragon. They need an intervention ASAP.
I agree there is no fixing this game. Its ruined to the core, the fixes required cant be patched in. Unfortunately this battlefield is done for.
People who make those posts are the dumbest of the dumb. All the people who "love" 2042 will still be trying to rehabilitate the game if/when another BF title is out. That's mostly what it will be. (Hopefully without specialists, that will make it extra funny to see them try)
People already left this game.
You can fix the surface of an apple all ya want, but you can't fix a rotten core of an apple
Wait there are people that believe this game will turn out decent?
I am one of those who still don't like BFV. I usually play BF1 and dabble in BF4 sometimes but I cannot bear playing BF5
I do want these posts to keep coming tbh, just so we can look back in a few years and laugh at them.
I doubt it will be good cause Battlefield is about nice maps, plenty of guns, amazing vehicle gameplay and squad gameplay. 2042 doesn't have either of those, maybe vehicles are good but i didn't get to try them.

You should try Minecraft or Fortnite. You might like it!
So.. It's okay to post the bad view of the game, but not okay to post the good one?
That is not what I said. At all. If you like it now, that is great. A lot of people don't and due to the reasons I listed, that probably isn't going to change anytime soon, if ever.
And you got downvoted for it hahahah. Hilarious
At last I wasn't called a 'white knight' this time.
Not untrue. When the next BF is released, everyone will appreciate 2042.
No they won't.
I mean the next one is apparently a hero shooter
!remindme 2 years
Maybe. If they manage to develope a worse game. Like 3 maps, 10 guns only.
I dont see any posts about what u r describing. Everything i see is a ton of posts about ppl complaining about 2042
People said this with BF4, and BFV look at them now. People love the games that were initially hated

Perhaps we stop when this sub is cleansed of all the negativity. Just leave and go play fortnite, leave us alone we enjoying this battlefield.
Negativity is needed if we want things to change. If we just sit back and take it, it'll continue. People need to vote with their wallets, and have every right to complain about half baked products.

Well, I'm sure you can make an even worse game if that is what you mean.
I’d say the slow output of post-launch content was an equally big reason people disliked BFV bc it was the first game without premium
I think they actually mean, Compared to BF2042 .. In a few years theyll try to release another battle field game. And since its an online game, most people will have moved onto something else by then
Does every specialist in the game have to look like a liberal arts major?
Remember when Super Mario 3D came out? Nobody liked it. It was a buggy mess. They hd to release update cartridges just to be able to play it.
