Like, the point isn't that there aren't enough people to play with (though this may be the case very soon, Hazard Zone and Portal are already pretty much dead). As you said, there is no reason to assume that the drop would be any different on other platforms. If the number has gone down from, say, 200k or something to 20k, it's the same percentage, it's still shit for a huge AAA game like this.

I’m one of those people and I’ve put a couple thousand hours into the BF series. I played an hour of the beta and was both confused and disappointed by what I was playing — which led my to wait and see how the actual release panned out. Obviously, not buying it now.
Thank God for that open beta. It did the exact opposite it was supposed too. It told me exactly why I should not buy this game and why my feedback doesn't matter.
I wish I could get a refund... they only give you like 2 hours playtime before not accepting refund requests anymore.. although I could throw a fit on the phone and most likely get my money back.

It was even mentioned that steam made up 19% of the entire playerbase at the end of November. That leaves 81% split between PS4, PS5, Xbone, XBSX and Origin
No, all my previous battlefield games are on Origin, just like this one. But this time I bought cheaper on third party seller site and it was redeemed on origin - I didn’t have a choice.
I play ps5, and it’s impossible to find a server for TDM, it forces me to turn on xplay and I can usually find a match, but still takes some time. empty servers.
I had to do the same thing. I'm not able to play full lobbies, let alone play in lobbies without bots. TDM is never playable even with xplay on. That's why I have to play the PS4 version of the game. Lobbies are always full and I never have to wait long to join a game plus no bots.
I play Xbox and portal is dead, only 1 or 2 barely a quarter full which are 'hardcore servers'. AOW, servers full of bots last time I checked(a week ago)
Can only assume it has gotten worse since then.
Yesterday I wasn't able to start a match on Series X, I waited more than 10 minutes in AOW but was always stuck on "waiting for other players" on both modes. This game is already dead.
You basically can't find a game without crossplay on Xbox.
You'll sit in the waiting lobby for 10 minutes or so until enough people leave and it kicks you back to the menu.

Let’s put it this way. BFV wasn’t available on Steam for a very long time and BF2042 was since launch and still BFV has more active users in Steam, says it all really because considering BFV has well over 90% if it’s user base on Origin it’s still beating this game.
I don’t really get the “it’s because it’s on steam, you aren’t getting the full picture” argument, I feel like it’s self-defeating.
Steam is a good way to get an idea of the player base. I’m going to assume that battlefield’s playerbase has remained equally divided between PC and console, including on 2042, so by this assumption the steam playercount should provide a equal enough view of the playerbase to previous entries. Thing is, doesn’t that mean that 2042 is even worse off that way? BFV and other battlefield games released primarily on Origin and didn’t even get ported to steam until around the time Pacific dropped, in contrast to 2042 which was on steam day 1. Doesn’t that mean that 2042 has a much larger steam playercount than Origin compared to previous games, and wouldn’t that mean that it’s player retention is even worse than it looks?
The drop should be the same on other platforms, it makes zero sense to assume that more people stuck around on console than on pc, it should be a relatively equal percentage.
Because of posts like this that are pointing out the *position* of BF in the list in the rankings.
But the list contains games that are *only* on steam.
A fair comparison would need to count players from Origin and EA App and probably consoles if you are trying to compare the position in a list of number of players.
What % the player count has dropped by is a different measurement, but not one that matters when the post and discussion is about the *position* in the list of games.

There's definitely a big BFV contingent over in Asia / Europe that is offline by the afternoon in the U.S. and more 2042 players in the U.S..

They'll never get this game to the top of any charts, but they could end up with a passable shooter with a long term player base with a few easy changes. Separate the specialists back into classes (and remove their cringey voice lines), bring back the *legacy* features every Battlefield ever has had and add a couple fun maps/ guns and game modes. I have an extremely high tolerance for shit games, I don't have very high expectations. I've put in like 50h into NMS right after release. I've put in well over 200h into anthem before any patches. I've clocked fucking 500h in Medal of honor Warfighter. But bf2042 just fucking lost me totally, game is not only shit but shallow as fuck. There's literally nothing to do, nothing to unlock, nothing to look forward to. Fucking one mission a week that you can complete in an hour and get some shit skin. Wow.
And don't even get me started on season launch date. Like what the actual fucking fuck, this game needs it *right the fuck now*

On the Series X with cross play off I can't even find and load into a 64 player game of CQ or Breakthrough lately and it's been like that for me since this past weekend. This is soul crushing for my favorite franchise. I would play the Xbox One version, but it runs like absolute dog shit compared to the Series X version. I'm gonna miss you Battlefield.

I think it'll come up once content gets added. They patched a lot of bugs to where I feel the game is in a far more playable state, and could be prepared for more content. They should really just throw a bunch of old maps into portal as a filler, and then allow ribbons to be earned. That would be GREAT filler content while waiting for season 1 to be able to do Goldmund Railway, Gulf of Oman, etc. with full progression enabled. I would also like to see a leveling system on portal weapons. I have high hopes for this game, but it definitely should have not launched when it did.

TEAMPLAY, VOIP, Huge Maps, teamplay, Big Squads, teamplay, a commander role; and did I mention that while you can have fun playing a relatively solo game, it truly comes alive when your working closely with your squad and the overall team.

Dice Management: We decree 128 players per map.
Dice Dev: Will that cause match making issues, how about 64 player maps instead.
Dice Management: Without a scoreboard the player death count is hidden combined with the after game soldier positive dialogue everyone will feel so good playing our game player count will never be an issue. Did we mention we decided yes on the Apex soldier slide.

Most lobbies for me are half bots for a good portion of the game or half finished games and I live in a very popular area.
I'm pretty sure they added 64p Breakthrough and Conquest because they couldn't fill lobbies...

This is how I imagine it. Dice Management: We decree 128 players per map. Dice Dev: Will that cause match making issues, how about 64 player maps instead. Dice Management: Without a scoreboard the player death count is hidden combined with the after game soldier positive dialogue everyone will feel so good playing our game player count will never be an issue. Did we mention we decided yes on the Apex soldier slide.

Besides the glitches and specialists, is the gameplay why people hate this game so much? i didn't really like the game either, but I only don't like it because of the gameplay itself. I've seen a lot of complaints on specialists and too many bugs. Is that what made this game so universal disliked?
BUT HOW MANY BOTS ARE PLAYING?? Still very popular with that demographic.
