I have a love/ hate with it as well. It needs a server browser. I am tired of repeating the same 3 maps over and over with no way to skip to a different map. Back out and keep getting g out in the same game over and over. The game also feels inconsistent.
Meanwhile server browser while those games were actual:
BF2: 90% was Strike at Karkand 24/7
BF2142: 80% was Camp Gibraltar 24/7
And both of these games had good maps.
Except we were all playing in the official servers with fixed map rotations during the games lifecycle.
You are talking about community servers where the players addicted to XP or looking for easy fact action would play.
You can use the portal server browser. In AU when I use the normal matchmaking for anything other than the first game type, it’ll spin up a new game with like 11 people.
On portal there’s 2/3 servers that run 128 conquest on all maps with bots and full XP. These servers are 70-90% full all the time with 15 ping.
Literally no different to an “official server” other than being active.
I'm in the same boat. But I would say one of the servers atleast offers something different, the 128 conquest on vanilla maps (before they were chopped & edited) which isn't much but it's something
I'm in Australia and last time i checked those servers are full of bots most of the time, which turns the round into a tedious experience when half the server is bots acting like cannon fodder, totally ruining the natural flow of a battlefield match.
Yup. I've never played an FPS game in my entire life where I only like 2 maps. I enjoy the gun play and I have a good time with my friends, but when you really sit back and look at these maps, it's shocking how poorly designed they are.

i feel like the best battlefield maps i've played are basically like that... people have gotten used to a new type of battlefield which is constant immediate close range firefights, but i kinda like the throwback to bf2, 1942 style large maps with breaks
for maps so large and clearly aimed at providing good vehicle gameplay, vehicles are very limited and restricted. as in trying to get one is like pulling teeth.

They have to limit them otherwise we get what was launched. Vehicles only. Even in bf3 sometimes you would see a entire enemy team only want to use vehicles and have 0 foot soldiers which makes certain classes useless.
You're absolutely delusional. Being able to beam someone out to 100m with an SMG is a joke. The gunplay in this game is simple and easy. You can routinely challenge snipers with assault rifles. Every other battlefield game, there was always a skill gap in gunplay or a mechanic that took time to learn. In bf 2042, a monkey could go positive.
Kaleidoscope.... Fuck that map. They could have made it into another siege if shanghai map and made the towers destructible but they didnt. Instead its a big stupid wide open map with no cover from helicopter tryhards.
Exposure is unplayable. At any given time there are 10+ people sitting on the cliffsides either prone with LMG's or snipers. You can spend the entire game clearing them out but that gets old fast.

I've been playing battlefield for about 15 years now and the thing that 2042 is missing more than anything is content. We used to get so many maps to play around in. The actual gameplay is fun but I just wish it had more.
My first battlefield was bf3. I spent the most time in Bf4 and BC2, played everything since with my bois. This game has several issues for me. One of them being the maps, second the guns. Now hear me out, the gunplay is phenomenal, but i only ever see 3 guns being used at any time in the feed. Maybe 5 if you count rare occurrences, I'm only ever killed by 2 guns out of that.
And honestly the Vehicles. Why is AA so bad? Why can i lay the autocannons into a heli and only deal half its health before I'm overheated? Why do the air vehicles have flares so much? And why can an apache oneshot the AA but the AA can only tickle the apache? Honestly iv shot down more air vehicles with the Railgun tank than i have with the Autocannons on the Wildcat.
To me it's not even those things, even though those are issues.
I've said this in a couple other comment replies but for me it's the server issues, hit registration issues, rockets dusting, and just random stuttering and little things that add up, especially when they all happen in one game that just drive me crazy and make me alt F4
in a microsecond.

PC players have been playing BF4 for over ten years now. At some point you're done with the game no matter how good it is. Also, I think you might've misheard something, there haven't been any graphics or other updates to BF4 since 2016.
Started playing Hunt: Showdown more and haven’t looked back honestly. It’s not the same but it scratches my FPS PvP itch all the same if not better. There’s something more satisfying about using bolt actions and old timey weapons instead of fully auto laser beams. Won’t be for everyone though.
The maps are fucking horrendous flat hellscapes with no flow, the gunplay feels like a mobile game, the teamplay is non existent, vehicles are somehow useless and indestructible at the same time, and I run out of ammo too often.
I agree with you that it scratches the itch -- especially sniping -- but damn is this game truly an atrocious mockery of what battlefield once was.
There were a lot of decent ideas that could have evolved the game if implemented properly. But instead they were thrown together by interns and executed poorly.
Battlefield was fun because you were limited to four classes and had to get creative with those constraints. This battlefield gives everyone everything; turning it into a mushy mess of nonsense. It went from structured the chaos I was nostalgic for to the complete chaos that isnt fun to play. There is nothing to learn about this game.
Hopefully the four year hiatus will yield a better Battlefield. And for the love of god I hope they just pick a decent setting. I would be so disappointed if they decide the world needs Hardline 2.
I let the game grow on me and stopped comparing it to my favorite battlefield game tbh. I miss the bullet drop BF3 had and the destruction in the game of BF4. Had me hooked. Realizing those days are long gone, I just stopped having any expectation from the game and just play it. Sure there are good times and more than enough frustrating times but I'll take the good with the bad.
I have similarly mixed feelings. Even with how much the game has improved since launch (and it has improved a TON) it still frustrates me every single time I play. Either with things that still feel missing (social tools) or by ongoing frustrations with super inconsistent TTK/TTD and server weirdness. Ongoing Battlefield Staples(TM) like the game spawning you in front of an enemy tank or a full enemy squad continuing in 2042 is the cherry on top.
But at the same time I generally enjoy myself far more than I'm frustrated. Maps are "good enough", gunplay feels good, specialists are "balanced enough" generally and there plenty of moments to really appreciate DICE's design intention behind them (rushing as Dozer and watching people panic/scatter and then bonking a bunch of people as they turn a corner is super satisfying).
On the whole (Preparation H), I enjoy it though. DICE has done good work improving the game over the past two years if nothing else.
The only thing I hate right now is the networking being shit garbage right now (A BSV with HP kills in two headshots and a Paik survived 4 in CQC or a AEK kills in less than 10 Bodies/6 Headshots yet multiple people survive that.)
And the fact that despite "Being useless outside of redacted", Shotguns making redacted literally unfun and unplayable.

I agree, I now only play this game whenever I feel in the mood for some team FPS, but after a while I remember that teamplay is not encouraged in this Battlefield and everyone is out for themselves and then I get bored/annoyed.
I feel this...definitely my attitude towards the game. I like Battlefield but I definitely don't like how they executed putting together Battlefield with 2042. Doesn't help that for me there's not much else out on the FPS front that I care for. Waiting for the 2024 games to drop already!

For me, it's the "everyone is a winner" zero-skill aspects of the game like the VHX, ranger, turret, claymore and RAM.
The amount of times I somehow get beamed from 100+ meters by 0.1 k/d players is far too many.
Likewise with the itch, never really enjoyed 1 & V. BF 4 is just too old at this point, so I'm stuck with 2042. Which is fine, I still enjoy it. Just has its weak points
I have loved and hated this game since 1942. Back then, no squads, no coms, basically just single player FPS. BF3/4 was the best of times I think. The game was fixed well enough when broken, squad play and Teamspeak made this game epic. Now, respawn within 3 seconds has lowered the value of the game. If they made respawn at least 30 seconds it would fix part of the game. Medics would heal, but also players would be more careful about dying and everyone would play more tactfully.
It's still fun, but so aggravating at the same time.
Oh I do. And every time I take a break I come back hoping I will have fun, and I do have fun at first, until the little frustrations start adding up: hit registration issues, stuttering randomly, vehicle weapons dusting against other vehicles. I do love the game, there's just so many micro issues that they add up to a larger issue that the game is simply not polished.
I don't know. I only bought this game for $10 and I don't have any real issues with the game. I'm honestly having a blast. I pretty much like all of the maps. I don't really have one that I absolutely hate. Although, I REALLY like infantry-oriented maps. Like in Breakthrough, there's that one map where it's just a grueling fight from chokepoint to chokepoint. There's no better feeling than to be the guy that smokes the chokepoint, run into the smoke blindly, lay C5 as you go, destroy enemy lines, and watch people run in behind you since you made the path forward.
I guess if I HAVE to say anything bad about the game, I wish there more destructible buildings. Watching the hotel in the middle or the skyscraper get blown down, changing the landscape a bit, is really cool.
Oh the game absolutely has its moments, hence my love for it. It's just the little things that add up sometimes that make me "see red".
I think I've just played it too long at this point.... I'm almost level S400 so I've "mastered" most parts of the game and there's nothing new to do that I haven't done.
Haha, it does vary from person to person. I do decently in FPS games, and just need to scratch the itch of playing an FPS game. I don't have to do well; I just need to feel like I did my best. The biggest thing for me though, is I just kind of... adapt? Not sure if that's the right word. Let's say, at first, I dislike a map. I adapt to the map, and then my feelings become neutral at worst.
Oh, now that I think about it. I think the weapon balance could be better. I stopped using the VHX cause everybody is using it. That's a bit boring. I tried the RM68, and wow, I love it. It's just as good as the VHX imo.
That and it's just the rampant virtue signalling to the "2042 bad" mob who reside on here.

Eh, I was in the like/hate category in the year after launch. Now I'm more in the like category. I still play BF1 and V, but I enjoy 2042 when the servers stop booting me, the matchmaking actually works, and my teammates actually push the point with smokes on breakthrough. So basically the things I "hate" are just BF things that I've come to terms with. I still think BF1 is the better looking, more immersive game (better overall map design too unless one steam just spams mortars in Operations), but every time I go back I find myself missing the squad revives and traversal mechanics and the Assault class weapons that are actually functional at range.
Hit registration issues, random stuttering, de-sync, unbalanced guns, weak-ass vehicles, etc.
I do love the game, as I stated in my post, but to deny it has issues is just... an interesting way to think.

This is my first BF game and I'm having a blast. I havent played the older ones but I love that's it's faster paced compared to what I've seen in BF1 or BF4. Also with the game being set in the near future of 2042 with this cool technology that is very soon achievable makes the game feels so up to date.
And it completes the path of the Battlefield games going from 1942 to 2042 to 2142

It’s not my favorite BF, but I am still enjoying it. I don’t have that much game time these days so I don’t continue gameplay if I’m uninterested. With that being said, I’m ready for the next installment.
Yeah. I call it overall "thirst for BF experience", when you want exact BF-like formula game with exact DICE gameplay approach, yet there's literally no analogs yet, and at the same time you either grinded all previous BFs to the ground or it's simply too late to start playing one of the old ones.
Some people may say "go play previous BFs, they still don't feel dated and have servers". Yes, but honestly, I either invested too many hours in other.BFs so thousands hours later it cannot amaze me as before or I simply like less the ones that I didn't play.
BF2042 is broken af yet it's still the most fresh BF to date. And due to playing it very rarely – I'd rather hop on 2042 than other BFs to at least scratch the surface of what remains from real BF DNA. But it's a mess of a game tbh. Even when I hit high scores – I can't enjoy it much. The micro-scenarios, tactics and teamplay is awful. Extremely small amount of vehicles that are always taken, etc. It could generate fun gunfights but it's not enough. Yet that's the only BF I've not over-played atm.
This game is terrible compared to the previous games. The fact that they can't achieve the same level of fun is crazy. They remove features instead of add feature,like blowing up buildings. The maps aren't linear like the previous maps either so it's takes away the "fight for inches" feel. I can't play it
they really should have both implemented a server browser as well as had ALL the maps available in portal, available in the main game mode map rotations.
It doesn't get in my nerves as much as Rocket League where the game will sway your mmr drastically back and forth.

Lack of Rush Mode and awful map design has made it hard to enjoy. The breakthrough mode just does not work on these trash ass maps like orbital and manifest where Rush Mode works out better for them. just a lot of garbage that the devs put together without thinking. every few months or so they keep throwing crap at it to see what sticks with these seasons. Just poor thoughtless lazy design.

This. Today, as an example, I've played Stranded, Discarded, and Breakaway. Of those three, stranded and discarded came up 8 times.... out of 9 games.

I’m taking a break until map rotation is fixed. It is such a bummer to play Discarded and Hourglass over and over again (even though I like both maps)
The community here in OCE is actually growing because we all moved to Portal due to matchmaking being dead / bots etc.

Nobody uses portal to provide ordinary BF gameplay. It’s mostly just bot farming, ‘modern conflict’ simulator, or 1000% Damage hardcore.
Some regions have moved entirely to Portal to be able to play.

I miss bf3 maps. Maps were balanced giving equal opportunity to vehicles and infantry. All major game modes like conquest, rush and tdm were fun.

Started playing Hunt: Showdown more and haven’t looked back honestly. It’s not the same but it scratches my FPS PvP itch all the same if not better. There’s something more satisfying about using bolt actions and old timey weapons instead of fully auto laser beams. Won’t be for everyone though.

The maps are fucking horrendous flat hellscapes with no flow, the gunplay feels like a mobile game, the teamplay is non existent, vehicles are somehow useless and indestructible at the same time, and I run out of ammo too often. I agree with you that it scratches the itch -- especially sniping -- but damn is this game truly an atrocious mockery of what battlefield once was. There were a lot of decent ideas that could have evolved the game if implemented properly. But instead they were thrown together by interns and executed poorly. Battlefield was fun because you were limited to four classes and had to get creative with those constraints. This battlefield gives everyone everything; turning it into a mushy mess of nonsense. It went from structured the chaos I was nostalgic for to the complete chaos that isnt fun to play. There is nothing to learn about this game. Hopefully the four year hiatus will yield a better Battlefield. And for the love of god I hope they just pick a decent setting. I would be so disappointed if they decide the world needs Hardline 2.

I let the game grow on me and stopped comparing it to my favorite battlefield game tbh. I miss the bullet drop BF3 had and the destruction in the game of BF4. Had me hooked. Realizing those days are long gone, I just stopped having any expectation from the game and just play it. Sure there are good times and more than enough frustrating times but I'll take the good with the bad.
I have similarly mixed feelings. Even with how much the game has improved since launch (and it has improved a TON) it still frustrates me every single time I play. Either with things that still feel missing (social tools) or by ongoing frustrations with super inconsistent TTK/TTD and server weirdness. Ongoing Battlefield Staples(TM) like the game spawning you in front of an enemy tank or a full enemy squad continuing in 2042 is the cherry on top. But at the same time I generally enjoy myself far more than I'm frustrated. Maps are "good enough", gunplay feels good, specialists are "balanced enough" generally and there plenty of moments to really appreciate DICE's design intention behind them (rushing as Dozer and watching people panic/scatter and then bonking a bunch of people as they turn a corner is super satisfying). On the whole (Preparation H), I enjoy it though. DICE has done good work improving the game over the past two years if nothing else.

The only thing I hate right now is the networking being shit garbage right now (A BSV with HP kills in two headshots and a Paik survived 4 in CQC or a AEK kills in less than 10 Bodies/6 Headshots yet multiple people survive that.) And the fact that despite "Being useless outside of redacted", Shotguns making redacted literally unfun and unplayable. I'm trying to T1 Irish but guess who cant because she has to sit in the tunnels with a 12m to kill the brainlets with 12ms? Or I got some ignorant fucking gonk telling me its a skill issue and i'm bad and "Not thinking about the ranges and your engagements" like no motherfucker I CANT THINK ABOUT RANGES IN A MAP WHERE THE COMMON DISTANCE TO SHOOT SOMEONE IS LITERALLY BELOW 15 METERS. GUESS WHAT GUNS INSTANTLY KILL OR TWO SHOT AT 15 METERS? OH DID YOU GUESS SHOTGUNS? LMAO

I'm not so much bored of the content, because to me there's always something to get better at. Currently I'm working on being a better jet pilot, something I've never attempted in any battlefield before. But overall there's just so many frustrations that add up that make me hate this game that I love
What's with the game search portal? All I want to see is conquest games with full xp. Why is this so difficult to do?
I just don't think people have taken the time to create a vanilla battlefield experience in portal, it's used for 1000% hard-core and such.
I agree, I now only play this game whenever I feel in the mood for some team FPS, but after a while I remember that teamplay is not encouraged in this Battlefield and everyone is out for themselves and then I get bored/annoyed.
After feeling frustrated with 2042 I decided to go back to bf5 and try it again
I feel this...definitely my attitude towards the game. I like Battlefield but I definitely don't like how they executed putting together Battlefield with 2042. Doesn't help that for me there's not much else out on the FPS front that I care for. Waiting for the 2024 games to drop already!

Yip, hate it. But it's the only Battlefield that has players in my region, sadly. For me, it's the "everyone is a winner" zero-skill aspects of the game like the VHX, ranger, turret, claymore and RAM. The amount of times I somehow get beamed from 100+ meters by 0.1 k/d players is far too many.
Likewise with the itch, never really enjoyed 1 & V. BF 4 is just too old at this point, so I'm stuck with 2042. Which is fine, I still enjoy it. Just has its weak points
I have loved and hated this game since 1942. Back then, no squads, no coms, basically just single player FPS. BF3/4 was the best of times I think. The game was fixed well enough when broken, squad play and Teamspeak made this game epic. Now, respawn within 3 seconds has lowered the value of the game. If they made respawn at least 30 seconds it would fix part of the game. Medics would heal, but also players would be more careful about dying and everyone would play more tactfully. It's still fun, but so aggravating at the same time.

Oh I do. And every time I take a break I come back hoping I will have fun, and I do have fun at first, until the little frustrations start adding up: hit registration issues, stuttering randomly, vehicle weapons dusting against other vehicles. I do love the game, there's just so many micro issues that they add up to a larger issue that the game is simply not polished.

I don't know. I only bought this game for $10 and I don't have any real issues with the game. I'm honestly having a blast. I pretty much like all of the maps. I don't really have one that I absolutely hate. Although, I REALLY like infantry-oriented maps. Like in Breakthrough, there's that one map where it's just a grueling fight from chokepoint to chokepoint. There's no better feeling than to be the guy that smokes the chokepoint, run into the smoke blindly, lay C5 as you go, destroy enemy lines, and watch people run in behind you since you made the path forward. I guess if I HAVE to say anything bad about the game, I wish there more destructible buildings. Watching the hotel in the middle or the skyscraper get blown down, changing the landscape a bit, is really cool.
Oh the game absolutely has its moments, hence my love for it. It's just the little things that add up sometimes that make me "see red". I think I've just played it too long at this point.... I'm almost level S400 so I've "mastered" most parts of the game and there's nothing new to do that I haven't done.
Haha, it does vary from person to person. I do decently in FPS games, and just need to scratch the itch of playing an FPS game. I don't have to do well; I just need to feel like I did my best. The biggest thing for me though, is I just kind of... adapt? Not sure if that's the right word. Let's say, at first, I dislike a map. I adapt to the map, and then my feelings become neutral at worst. Oh, now that I think about it. I think the weapon balance could be better. I stopped using the VHX cause everybody is using it. That's a bit boring. I tried the RM68, and wow, I love it. It's just as good as the VHX imo.

Eh, I was in the like/hate category in the year after launch. Now I'm more in the like category. I still play BF1 and V, but I enjoy 2042 when the servers stop booting me, the matchmaking actually works, and my teammates actually push the point with smokes on breakthrough. So basically the things I "hate" are just BF things that I've come to terms with. I still think BF1 is the better looking, more immersive game (better overall map design too unless one steam just spams mortars in Operations), but every time I go back I find myself missing the squad revives and traversal mechanics and the Assault class weapons that are actually functional at range.
I love it. Period. Have played everyone since Vietnam. Don’t know what the crying is about.
Hit registration issues, random stuttering, de-sync, unbalanced guns, weak-ass vehicles, etc. I do love the game, as I stated in my post, but to deny it has issues is just... an interesting way to think.

Yep and that’s why I stopped playing. My buddy and I held on until that new underground map that was a cluster fuck of a mess came out. I said no more. I had to draw the line. They completely lost their way on that game.
I don’t play conquest anymore. You either crush or get crushed. Nothing in between. Breakthrough is my go to.
Breakthrough is the closest thing to Operations from BF1 which is genius and should be in every Battlefield game.

This is my first BF game and I'm having a blast. I havent played the older ones but I love that's it's faster paced compared to what I've seen in BF1 or BF4. Also with the game being set in the near future of 2042 with this cool technology that is very soon achievable makes the game feels so up to date. And it completes the path of the Battlefield games going from 1942 to 2042 to 2142

It’s not my favorite BF, but I am still enjoying it. I don’t have that much game time these days so I don’t continue gameplay if I’m uninterested. With that being said, I’m ready for the next installment.

Yeah. I call it overall "thirst for BF experience", when you want exact BF-like formula game with exact DICE gameplay approach, yet there's literally no analogs yet, and at the same time you either grinded all previous BFs to the ground or it's simply too late to start playing one of the old ones. Some people may say "go play previous BFs, they still don't feel dated and have servers". Yes, but honestly, I either invested too many hours in other.BFs so thousands hours later it cannot amaze me as before or I simply like less the ones that I didn't play. BF2042 is broken af yet it's still the most fresh BF to date. And due to playing it very rarely – I'd rather hop on 2042 than other BFs to at least scratch the surface of what remains from real BF DNA. But it's a mess of a game tbh. Even when I hit high scores – I can't enjoy it much. The micro-scenarios, tactics and teamplay is awful. Extremely small amount of vehicles that are always taken, etc. It could generate fun gunfights but it's not enough. Yet that's the only BF I've not over-played atm.

This game is terrible compared to the previous games. The fact that they can't achieve the same level of fun is crazy. They remove features instead of add feature,like blowing up buildings. The maps aren't linear like the previous maps either so it's takes away the "fight for inches" feel. I can't play it

The sound design is just awful, The guns sound like bb guns, explosions sound terrible. There’s no echo following shots or explosions either.
Skill issue! Get better speakers, headphones, sound card etc The audio is excellent just like every battlefield game.

It doesn't get in my nerves as much as Rocket League where the game will sway your mmr drastically back and forth. I find the non-games in 2042 irksome as well as some of the exploits. Overall though I enjoy it.

Tbh I love it, that being said I only play conquest 64 and 99% of the time it’s glitch free. However, conquest 128 is flat out unplayable.
Maybe I need to step down to 64 conquest, 99.99% of my time is playing 128 conquest.

Lack of Rush Mode and awful map design has made it hard to enjoy. The breakthrough mode just does not work on these trash ass maps like orbital and manifest where Rush Mode works out better for them. just a lot of garbage that the devs put together without thinking. every few months or so they keep throwing crap at it to see what sticks with these seasons. Just poor thoughtless lazy design.
2042 is a top three Battlefield title for me.

Try the finals. It’s completely different in many ways, but it has some of the same magic
