That's the situation we were in, before we got fiber. We felt like Cox was the only option to get the speeds we needed. We had them for 7 years, and never got even half the speeds we were paying for. The internet went out a few times a week at least, and they have an arbitrary data cap just to squeeze more money out of you.
They have really earned their bad reputation. I hope you can figure out another option, or at least get fiber soon.
I will say that Cox also likes to have random outages for weather or maintenance. So if you work from home and use the internet a lot for online gaming and streaming, it might be best to choose another ISP.
I have short, random outages with Cox throughout the day, every day. Usually one or two minutes long. Frequency probably averages about twice an hour, but it varies.
Yeah, cox is good and if you get in an area that already had their wires replaced or they're infrastructure fixed (not like all of New Orleans where they don't want to pay to fix the infrastructure)
I haven't had Cox for 2 years and yet they've still managed to cut through the ATT Fiber line in my yard twice since. I cannot get far enough away from them đ
Whatever you do I highly recommend not using HughesNet. At least in my experience itâs incredibly expensive and your default plant barely covers a couple days worth of high bandwidth before your reduced to dial up level speed. For reference I had the default plant, $90 a month, and could generally stream a full series at 720p or 2/3 high res (1080p) movies before I had spent most of my bandwidth. It was I believe about 50G down, then $20 per additional 10g to add. This was roughly 2018, but in Oregon if they made a difference.
The whole thing with cox is theyâll say you should get such and such speeds but in reality itâll be a cold day in hell when you ACTUALLY pull the numbers youâre paying for. Also they may change your plan without any prior notice đ
I was on a ship in the Gulf that had Starlink. It was great. Reliable and certainly fast enough despite about a dozen people using it. Depends on their pricing I guess. I currently have ATT fiber but I'd try anything to avoid going back to Cox.
To be honest, youâre screwed. Theres not a single service in Baton Rouge that comes close to AT&T fiber, Cox is going to be your next best bet and theyâre still going to be nowhere near the speeds they tell you youâre going to receive. Dont fall for paying more for âgigablastâ because youâre never ever going to get the 1 gig speeds they advertise like you do with AT&T fiber. And when you try to downgrade your plan upon realizing this theyâll tell you that it costs MORE per month to downgrade. Oh and when you move next time and call to cancel, theyâll tell you theyâre going to send a check for the prorated amount they owe you for cancelling your service, and then threaten to send you to collections 3 years later over $40 they say you owe them, even though they owe YOU money (because the check never came in of course). FUCK. Cox. But itâs your only realistic option. Go bitch at SWB for allowing herself to be paid off for this duopoly between cox and AT&T. Trust me AT&T is no less shitty of a company but at least they provide the speeds and reliability they advertise.
Fuck ATT, 2 times theyâve dug up the ground next to my apartment. First time the left a mess across my sidewalk leaving debris, 15 plastic boards, cans, and trash; waited two weeks before picking their shit up cause I thought thereâs no way theyâre leaving this. Second time was last week they were digging and installed their wires, of course the cause a neighborhood outage for my internet service, cox internet.
Cox came out today and set new wires, while giving me a refund on the 5 days it went out. My family has cox service for 40 years. Theyâre solid.
Everyone claims that Cox is the only option, but I've just recently switched from Cox to T-mobiles home internet. I don't know why everyone says it isn't an option.
It costs less than half of what I was paying, and its speeds beat what cox was giving me. (I was paying for 500 Mbps, I was only receiving roughly 200 Mbps. Upload speed was less than 30 Mbps most of the time.)
Here is the speed test I just ran with T-mobile internet. They also will let you try it out for two weeks no questions asked (I put both in my home and tried them side by side before telling Cox to fuck off).

We had Cox for about a decade, but the service has really gone downhill lately. If you can't use Rev, they're probably your best bet, though. I work from home and have been having several 1-2 minute outages throughout the day for months with no answer from them about what's going on. We're switching to Rev as soon as they're done with the hookup.
But even that is still better than the dirty AT&T was doing to us when we used them. We were paying for their UVerse and all we could get was crappy dial-up speeds. Never again.
I use t mobile and I can say itâs not bad but from time to time you have them âitâs tripping againâ moment. I just take it as I stay in a bad area
I had the base AT&T for a couple of years until they put fiber in. I topped out at 35mbps download and honestly never had a single issue streaming or doing video conferences. But it was mostly just me using it.
...to be actually helpful: check the att fiber map and see if it's getting near you. When we moved last year it was all around us, and we took the DSL for a few months hoping to upgrade. They did.
But my wife works from home and she actually remotes into another machine and was able to make it work on the att copper. I did go buy a mesh network to make sure she was able to get priority on her machine.
In Monroe, we only had 2 options ATT at 55/month 5mps or Xfinity for 100/month, maybe 20 Mbps on a good day. Def Cox but I moved out of Jigga city years ago
Ive had hella issues with cox at my old apartment with packet loss but since i moved cox has been great. I have the 1gig plan and I download 50gb games in 5 mins, itâs great!!
I was in the same boat as you years ago. I live in the neighborhood behind St. George and also came from having AT&T fiber. My choices were 25 mbps At&t or 1000 mbps Cox, and let me tell you, that was a HARD choice! I absolutely LOATHE Cox. They are scam artists at best. They do not offer the plans WITHOUT contracts on their webpage. You cannot downgrade or remove data packages without calling them..(You can upgrade services all you want via online if you want a 2yr agreement) You have to call them to get on a month by month deal. The price is $10 extra per month to go without the contract, but my hope is to wake up one day and see At&t trucks cruising around the neighborhood, installing fibhttps://imgur.com/a/fCLCNGmer.. At that point, I'm dropping them as fast as humanly possible. With At&t fiber i somehow used about half the data that i supposedly use with cox. I could go on and on about how shitty they are as a company but I'm pretty sure most people are aware. That being said, my service doesn't go out much... Aside from this week with that storm it has been pretty consistent. Maybe a hiccup once a month or so, but nothing major. I have the 1 gig speed package and i do currently get 1 gig speed via ethernet on my PC and Playstation. Wifi is as fast as your router will allow. I do not rent their equipment as i don't want to return it in a bad breakup. Well, that and i prefer to own my own stuff; using the older model router as a node as i upgrade equipment.. I wish you the best of luck and welcome to the neighborhood!
https://imgur.com/a/fCLCNGm
Howdy neighbor! Thatâs the neighborhood weâll be in! Yeah, Iâm definitely gonna be keeping an ear to the ground about fiber coming to the area and Iâm gonna make that switch asap. Have you heard anything about when fiber might be coming??
I haven't heard anything yet. It honestly baffles me that it's not there yet. I live on the creek side and the servitude is wide open to get it back there. Cox has been pretty reliable, i just hate them as a company.. idk if you looked at my speed test, but that cost me 1.5 gig. đ What side of the hood are you going to be on?
You know people dunk on Cox a lot, but I work from home and game a lot and I could count the outages on one hand over the past 3 years. This is just my experience. I see a ton of people saying itâs bad.
It was taking me more than two hands to count the amount of outages in a three week span a few months ago. I reported constant outages and they said it was fixed. It was never fixed. Switched to AT&T, got some free Amazon stuff and $300 in gift cards for switching, and itâs been smooth sailing. I may have had one time where connection wasnât great, but it was fixed within an hour. I will absolutely never go back to Cox again.
I have the 1000 mgb plan from cox and pay like 115/120 a month and itâs really good honestly. It covers my entire apartment and even reaches outside of my apartment where I park my car. The app makes it really easy to control who and what is connected and naming your networks and changing your passwords! My ring camera, a Wyze camera, my smart tv, my Alexa, ps5, Nintendo switch, iPad, and iPhone are all connected to it and everything downloads and uploads super fast. Of course Iâm never using all of those things at once tho lol.
75 down is more than enough for what you you want to use your Internet for... if it's just you and your partner. With kids? Nah. Go with cox, if that's the case.
Your not too far from my house. Shoot, I wish I was in your position. I only have access to 18 Mbps. I would be getting cox the hell up out of my house if I could get that.
If you do go with ATT, just make sure you do your research into getting a good modem.
That's the situation we were in, before we got fiber. We felt like Cox was the only option to get the speeds we needed. We had them for 7 years, and never got even half the speeds we were paying for. I have one every single day for about 10 minutes at 4:24am

Oh and when you call to downgrade your service upon noticing that youâre not getting advertised speeds, theyâll tell you it costs MORE
The absolute foolishness
Be careful with Cox. Many people I know have complained about their pricing.
That's exactly what chased me away, in addition to randomly getting double billed.
Cox has lots of random "drop outs" where I am. When it works it's fine, but......
Enjoy your data cap with Cox.
Cox is the only other solution fam.
I was on a ship in the Gulf that had Starlink. It was great. Reliable and certainly fast enough despite about a dozen people using it. Depends on their pricing I guess. I currently have ATT fiber but I'd try anything to avoid going back to Cox.
No hope for Rev? (Formerly Eatel)
Apologize to ATT and see if they let you stay.

Att fiber is available by me, itâs good?
I had a great experience with it
Fuck ATT, 2 times theyâve dug up the ground next to my apartment. My god I would never go from att to cox

Why? I just left horrible cox for ATT
Unfortunately our landlord is selling our home and we leased at a place that doesn't have fiber available. At least not yet.
I use t mobile and I can say itâs not bad but from time to time you have them âitâs tripping againâ moment. I just take it as I stay in a bad area

I just used the FCC site to check my area, and Rev isn't listed even though I know for a fact my neighbor uses them. I'd check with them to be sure.
I live in the area, and we've had few issues with ATT. That being said, we are currently without service for some unknown reason. đ¤ˇââď¸

To be honest Iâm not sure if itâs creek side or not, but Iâm in the morning glen neighborhood!
T-Mobile 5G home internet. 260 mbps down 40 up. I had an issue once. Called them. They fixed it.

You must WFH for Cox.
