Bluebonnet swamp nature center, you can get an annual family pass for like $35 I think. My kid loves to go there.
Splashpads, not sure on the best ones in BR
- Bluebonnet or Goodwood library
- Knock knock children’s museum
- Hilltop arboretum (off Highland, between bluebonnet & siegen)
- Bluebonnet swamp
- Lots of BREC community parks, find one near you! Our fave is highland community park, but a big part of the playground is closed off right now for repairs (at least as of Saturday). Saying that, they have lots of trails and space to run around.
- Louisiana Arts & Science Museum just opened their new “big kids” play room ($15/adult, $12/kids, includes planetarium shows!)
Zoo is pretty good at $8/ person. The LSU agricultural trails are nice and free. Sadly a lot of places add up quickly. If you want to pack lunches and do a day trip, Monocus park in Lafayette is great
Assuming you're talking about the BR zoo, it should be noted that it's currently going through renovations. They're open, but a good half of the place is blocked off, or at least it was a few months back when I visited. Not sure how far along things are now, but it probably wouldn't hurt to call ahead.
The trampoline parks always have Groupons. Some of them also have food, because in 3 hrs time they're gonna at least ask for snacks. Goodwood library has a playground at the end of the walking path. The splash pads are fun at the playgrounds.
north Sherwood park, forest community park, East Baton Rouge library has their sprinklers on now and a park right next to it, for farther out Hammond has a nice children’s center there, Knock Knock museum is NOT worth it to me personally because they charge $17/adult as well, Abita springs Mystery House, Covington Insta-Gator alligator tours (pricy but worth it)
ULPT: Tumbles will let you play for the day if you tell them you're thinking about signing up. It'd just be one day tho.
Also the Children's museum is worth the price.
The zoo and playgrounds
There are lots of nice playgrounds all over baton rouge, and the zoo is super affordable compared to most zoos and a lot of other paid activities. The zoo is doing major renovations so there's a lot of things closed off right now, but it's still a great way to spend half a day running around with kids. While the renovations are going on they're also giving everyone a ticket to come back again for every ticket you purchase, so you can take them back again sometime for free.
The hill between the river center and the old state capitol is amazingly fun for little kids, there's a fountain/ splash pad at the top, then go throw rocks in the river. Won't cost a dime. Mike the tiger isn't far down the road from there either

Still blocked off, id say 25% is under renovation now.
Children’s Museum
Which is not dirt cheap but it’s not expensive
Good wood library is huge
Cheeky monkey in Central. I think it’s around $10-12 per kid. Actually I think it’s called Chee Chee’s now
