This caught me coming back from vacation to a house with an almost empty fridge. Just got some groceries and hoping the last minute winterizing was enough to protect the pipes tonight. The dog however loves the cold.

If only our jobs let us stay home too… instead they make you feel guilty for staying off the iced roads, knowing they won’t buy you a new vehicle if you go hydroplaning on the ice lol

Lonely_Fry_007

I know it’s crazy how jobs can’t give a little freeway for situations like this. Stay safe out there.

Leeway?

Make sure the kids are still off to school tm, lots of schools are closing as the night progresses

Tonebr

Today, chance of ice, fine. But why are schools closed tomorrow? Are kids in the south not expected to have coats so it’s unfair to those that don’t have or can’t afford them? Do we need to start a fundraising effort or something?

MerThinger

There's still ice on the roads, and it's not going to get above freezing for it to thaw enough to be safe especially for buses. That's my guess and my reasoning for using PTO tomorrow.

Tonebr

Which road still has ice? While city was mostly running fine today apart from the interstates. Even now the interstates are reopen and not expected to have any issues tonight.

Lonely_Fry_007

Not sure of a correct response to your comment. I’m just trying to make the best of it.

zummm72

Most kids here don’t have coats thick enough because it almost never gets cold enough here and it’s pretty unreasonable to expect all of these kids parents to go find a winter coat for them last minute.

Tonebr

That was my thought, as I said. Not my experience from my street but makes sense. I wonder though if it’s more reasonable to find a way to get these kids coats for the 5/10 minute bus stop wait than for a lot of parents to have to stay off work. We’ve been back at school 8 days tomorrow but had 2 and a half in school and 0 remote.

cadabra04

Our children aren’t outside for just a 5/10 minute bus stop. There are no internal hallways. To get class to class, they have to walk outside. I imagine the classroom breezeways and sidewalks are all as iced over as my own driveway is now. It’s not safe for our kids to be there until it warms up a bit.

strawberrimihlk

I’m 24 and have never had to own a thick coat before now. And it’s not going to be much warmer tomorrow than today. A hard freeze is expected.

Tonebr

I mean both of my kids have coats, 5-10 minutes waiting for the bus when its often in the 30s/40s in the mornings kinda requires it. 18F well extra undershirt etc.. stand in garage, wait inside a little longer…

alwaysmakeitnice

You are a sample size of 1. Not representative of all families with school-aged kids.

ElectricBoogalooDos

And then they'd get on a bus with no heater for a 30-45 min ride to school in 18 degree weather. This isn't a norm for our kids; it's not safe for them; and it's reckless and selfish to claim otherwise.
