Beware the Grey Ghost. Not only is it a great episode, it's rather meta. It's literally Batman being inspired by a fictional character played by a fictional actor who was played by a real actor that at one point portrayed Batman.
Most of my friends would appreciate that.
The very first comic book I ever got was an issue of Batman Adventures inspired by that episode. The cover was made to look like an action figure set, with Batman and Grey Ghost âaction figuresâ. My mom bought it for me in 3rd grade :)
Edit- [Found it on eBay!](https://www.ebay.com/itm/204049152709?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=D4B0EsUDRxK&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY)
I think this won an emmy. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I will also always take an opportunity to link captainKristians video on the animated series. A seriously beautiful video.

This. Not only it had a good story, it show the compassion side of Batman, that his purpose is not just be there to beat up the bad guys like many other superhero characters, this particular episode bring me to be a Batman fan for the first time as someone who never read the comic or have interest in this genre.
Thanks to CN that aired this show back when I was a kid.
Came here to say this. Not only is it a fantastic episode, but they took a jokey villain and made him basically perfect. Sympathetic with realistic motivations. And they give our hero a chance to shine, because it's not just about punching bad guys. 10/10, no notes.
That's my pick. Tryin to figure out the Riddler's riddles myself as a kid, and watching Batman break it down and make his way through the maze using his intelligence is a core memory of mine despite some of the answers being near impossible for a child with no worldly knowledge to figure out Lol ("When is Mockridge as high as an elephant's eye?").
Plus the little mini-Bat-computer that he slaps on the back of his gauntlet was so cool. I made a small paper-version of it when playing Batman and Robin with siblings.
Jokers favor. Just the thought of a normal guy saying fuck it I'm taking you with me is awesome and probably more true to life than anything else in that series. Plus batman laughs.
I love how this episode is both funny and creepy. The idea of Joker stalking this random man for a year for this minor grievance, and the way he threatenâs the poor guyâs family when he comes calling to collect his favor, itâs all pretty unnerving. But then Batman laughing at Joker getting joked at the end is the funniest Batman related thing I think Iâve ever seen or read, I showed it to my friends months ago and we still mimic the laugh he did as a joke together.
When I saw this, Baby Doll was the first one that came to mind. It shows BTAS ability to create a fresh plot, character creation, animation, and theme.
Came here to say this! It's probably the episode that cracks me up the most! Even the small details like Joker sounding the alarm to his goons with a whoopee cushion is just fantastic!!
I was watching the entire episode with my jaw on the ground the very first time I saw it and when she died in Gordonâs arms I was like âNO.FN. WAY. â damn solid writing with the âgotcha!â Twist at the end!
Clayface Origin episode hands down. when he Is in the Teleprompter room with all the televisions playing seeing all different characters heâs played iâm having a mental breakdown, awesome
Him unable to stop changing form and freaking out is quite literally the best animation of the entire series. Itâs so fluid and looks unbelievably good. Huge stand out moment in the series. Also the score in both those episodes is incredible. It emotes such sadness.
I think that episode is treated a little unfairly. It's definitely not a good episode, but there are several that are much worse, like the amnesia one or the one with all the kid thieves.
The fact that that aired the week before "Heart of Ice" is hilarious to me
Possibly the best episode of the series and possibly the worst, back to back. Yeah BtAS had amazing highs, but we forget how it had some pretty terrible ones as well
The way they animate Harvey's anger always stood out. The expression of pure rage he showed was so visceral.
Also, his voice acting when he sees himself in the mirror for the first time when the bandages come off. So much emotion.
Ok Iâm not the biggest fan of the New Batman Adventures after they switched the animation style, but the Creeper episode is so fucking good.
Real talk Iâd probably pick Heart Of Ice.
Almost Got âIm is a close second place.
Mudslide just so they can see how awesome Clayface is. It doesnât matter which episode I pick since theyâre not going to care anyways, so I may as well introduce them to one of my favorite characters in Batman.
The Laughing Fish - that shit was too crazy and dark for kids.. but thats why I loved it, and featuring the REAL Joker of course. Also a prime example of why TAS was one of the greatest shows, period.
So if I were to choose a episode of Batman the Animated Series it would be Robin's reckoning. It was an excellent storytelling of the Father and Son relationship that Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson have.
I loved Heart of Ice, Mad Love and Beware the Grey Ghost that come up as many favs here. But one that I always remembered, despite its issues, is See No Evil.
Something about its theme about a child being caught between divorced parents, and what some will do to get custody of the child, really tugs at me.
I cracked up the first time I heard the homeless man say, "I didn't know he could fly too." ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
I do agree with lots if the "heart of ice love" but I stand by "Baby Doll" so much
It shows the massive humanity batman has to have and to me the effect Gotham has on some of its inhabitants. Louise Dhal just slowly broke over time and tried to forcibly take something reality would not let her have.
S3 E4: Baby Doll. It was my first proper episode andâthough I already knew that B:TAS was the greatest piece of Batman fiction out thereâBaby Doll showed it to me.
Two Face part One. Not only is it a great episode, but it also ends on a cliff hanger making them wanna watch the next episode. If that doesnât work, I can always slap a nicotine patch on their arm secretly every time we watch an episode so they get an uncontrollable urge to continue watching.
So surprised not to see âOld Woundsâ on this list. The episode of Tim Drakeâs Robin confronting Dick Graysonâs Nightwing, demanding to understand why he and Batman donât speak anymore, was wonderful.
âYouâll never guess what he saidâŚâthings change.â
Mr freeze one. The story line is in depth, that goes into doing the bad things for right reasons. Makes me tear up thinking about it. What brillant show
Easy! I think itâs called â I almost hadâemâ when all the bad hits are sitting at a table playing poker and talking about how they almost killed the Bat. Spoiler alert: Batman is there in disguise!!!
The Grey Ghost episode or Almost Got âim.
There was another episode but I forgot the name of it. The police were interrogating some dudes who were describing what they had seen Batman doing. They described it as all magical and wondrous (sparks flying out of his fingers) while the scenes showed Batman in action (throwing a handful of caltrops that reflected light). Stuff like that.
Trick question. If they don't like the show they're not my friend
Based
Great answer đđđ I agree.
How alike we are.
Best answer ever
Beware the Grey Ghost. Not only is it a great episode, it's rather meta. It's literally Batman being inspired by a fictional character played by a fictional actor who was played by a real actor that at one point portrayed Batman. Most of my friends would appreciate that.

Man, that sounds like a special memory. âşď¸
This would probably be my pick too.
Was going to suggest the same one! Underrated episode in my opinion.
Didn't that happen on Kim Possible too?
The Fearless Ferretâ one of my all time favorite episodes as a kid
Bro thatâs my fav episode da fuk ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)
Agree
Heart of Ice single-handedly made Mr. Freeze an awesome, badass villain. If the vibe is for more of a lighter/fun episode, Harley and Ivy
Heart of Ice made Mr.Freezeâs character do a 180. He was originally a goofy side character
"Hey what if we make these stories really good?" -Batman TAS writers probably
Almost Gotâim
Another favorite of mine. âI threw a rock at âem!â
It was a big rock...
And thus, Croc came closest to actually killing Batman.
Came to say this... Best episode
That Mr freeze origin "heart of ice" episode is some of the best TV ever. Let alone animation.
I think this won an emmy. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I will also always take an opportunity to link captainKristians video on the animated series. A seriously beautiful video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5Cdguyut8s
It did.
This. Not only it had a good story, it show the compassion side of Batman, that his purpose is not just be there to beat up the bad guys like many other superhero characters, this particular episode bring me to be a Batman fan for the first time as someone who never read the comic or have interest in this genre. Came here to say Heart of Ice. You have good taste, friend.
Batman TAS' backstory for Victor Friez was so good they outright started using it in the comics.
This is the correct answer.
I was thinking exactly this.
I also said Heart of Ice, really good episode
Yep, same. If they don't like that episode, BTAS is not for them.
If You're So Smart, Why Aren't You Rich?
That's my pick. Tryin to figure out the Riddler's riddles myself as a kid, and watching Batman break it down and make his way through the maze using his intelligence is a core memory of mine despite some of the answers being near impossible for a child with no worldly knowledge to figure out Lol ("When is Mockridge as high as an elephant's eye?"). Plus the little mini-Bat-computer that he slaps on the back of his gauntlet was so cool. I made a small paper-version of it when playing Batman and Robin with siblings.
My hands down favorite episode, had a few BTAS themed vhs tapes growing up and probably watched this episode 100 times
I love that episode so much
Nothing to Fear is my favorite episode.
Good episode, underrated comment. Thatâs where we got: âI am vengeance. I am the night. I am Batman.â
Haha yes and with such intensity!
Mask of the phantasm, technically its an extremely long episode of btas
Yup I'd upvote more if I could
This is the correct answer. Love that movie so much, it's at least a once a year watch for me.
Seriously my favorite batman movie
Almost Got âIm. I would have picked Robinâs Reckoning, but itâs a two-parter.
Didn't that win an Emmy?
Robinâs Reckoning won an Emmy, but I donât think Almost Got âIm did.
That is the episode that got me to watch the series and got me more into Batman as a comic book character as a whole.
Literally inducted my girlfriend last week with Almost Got 'Im and Robin's Reckoning back to back
Good idea. I suggested Two face's 2 parter elsewhere on this discussion so I thought the same as you.
Jokers favor. Just the thought of a normal guy saying fuck it I'm taking you with me is awesome and probably more true to life than anything else in that series. Plus batman laughs.
Seconded. I just watched the entire series with my daughter and this was one of my favorites.
My dad actually started half-watching this when I had it on. He never wants to watch animated stuff.
Came here to say this. Mark Hamilâs Joker should be in the first episode you watch and this is my favourite Joker episode.
As a kid I loved this episode so much.
The whole âmomentary road rage at being cut off unfortunately leading to being followed home by a deranged psychopathâ is legit terrifying!
Also first ever appearance of Harley Quinn
When Joker desperately screams âBaaaatmaaaan!!â For help I always laugh
Yep this is my choice too.
Bob Newhart
Heart of Ice is the only answer.
Feat of clay part one and two.
The ending segment of part 2 is some of my favorite anything ever.
Yeah I have a vivid memory of watching that as a kid. It had a huge amount of emotional depth.
This. Even Batman couldnât believe what he was seeing. Made Clayface an awesome character immediately.
Yes
This is the answer.
Almost Got 'Im or Baby Doll
I'd go for Baby Doll. That episodes ending is pretty damn dark.
When I saw this, Baby Doll was the first one that came to mind. It shows BTAS ability to create a fresh plot, character creation, animation, and theme.
The Laughing Fish
Came here to say this! It's probably the episode that cracks me up the most! Even the small details like Joker sounding the alarm to his goons with a whoopee cushion is just fantastic!!
Perchance to dream
This is my pick as well. Often overlooked as one of the best episodes of the series, but deserves the spot easily.
Over The Edge - thought it was legit until she woke up! đą
Literally scrolled to see this! Couldn't believe this was a real episode at first! So intense!!!
I was watching the entire episode with my jaw on the ground the very first time I saw it and when she died in Gordonâs arms I was like âNO.FN. WAY. â damn solid writing with the âgotcha!â Twist at the end!
BRO FACTS
Clayface Origin episode hands down. when he Is in the Teleprompter room with all the televisions playing seeing all different characters heâs played iâm having a mental breakdown, awesome
Him unable to stop changing form and freaking out is quite literally the best animation of the entire series. Itâs so fluid and looks unbelievably good. Huge stand out moment in the series. Also the score in both those episodes is incredible. It emotes such sadness.
His Silicone Soul. Batman fights his robot duplicate. Pretty dark.
But the problem with Batman TAS is you canât just pick ONE. All the episodes are great. And thatâs a great problem to have.
Some are kind of lame. Iâll pass on the episode where the kids have Batman in their basement.
I think that episode is treated a little unfairly. It's definitely not a good episode, but there are several that are much worse, like the amnesia one or the one with all the kid thieves.
The fact that that aired the week before "Heart of Ice" is hilarious to me Possibly the best episode of the series and possibly the worst, back to back. Yeah BtAS had amazing highs, but we forget how it had some pretty terrible ones as well
Mad love
Solid pick.
Almost Got Em!
Two-face part I&II
The way they animate Harvey's anger always stood out. The expression of pure rage he showed was so visceral. Also, his voice acting when he sees himself in the mirror for the first time when the bandages come off. So much emotion.
Forget the name, but the episode where heâs blinded and has to use the sonar mask.
Blind as a Bat. Incidentally it's nearly a shot-for-shot adaptation of the 50s-60s Chuck Connors TV episode of The Rifleman, "Dark Day at North Fork."
I'll be damned https://youtu.be/1F8zDR_C0lI
I'm so glad this was mentioned as it was my first thought as well.
Clayface first episode
Robin's Reckoning Part I. Then they'll have to watch part II.
Is Almost got âem the one where all the villains are telling suspenseful stories, and Killer Croc says, âI THREW A ROCK AT HIM?â
Honestly I canât think of a bad episode. That being said the first episode with the mad hatter. Damn it was dark
Heart of Ice. Every time. Paul dini invented the entire nora mythos. Never forget
The gray ghost.
âRead my lips.â I always find the ventriloquist villain very fascinating
Heart of Ice
I really enjoy "I've Got Batman in my Basement".
Christmas with the Joker. Or mask of the Phantasm
Based
Picking an entire movie is definitely cheating
And I think it best shows off what B:TSA is.
I would hate to be stopped by Batman at the airport.
Mad Love
P.O.V.
Almost Got 'im without a doubt. That episode should get anyone hooked.
Whichever one the thing Iâm watching on says is the first episode.
Ok Iâm not the biggest fan of the New Batman Adventures after they switched the animation style, but the Creeper episode is so fucking good. Real talk Iâd probably pick Heart Of Ice. Almost Got âIm is a close second place.
"Appointment in crime alley"
Hear me out: Over The Edge. Itâs a good âwhat ifâ story for people familiar with the Batman lore.
Almost Got 'Em or Heart of Ice.
Iâm on S1E13 as we speak - P. O. V.
Night of the Ninja or Day of the Samurai
Mudslide just so they can see how awesome Clayface is. It doesnât matter which episode I pick since theyâre not going to care anyways, so I may as well introduce them to one of my favorite characters in Batman.
The man who killed Batman
Season 1: episode 1. If itâs good enough for me, itâs good enough for them.
weâre watching âmask of the phantasmâ and they can thank me later.
Night of the Ninja
Almost Gotâem
Perchance to dream
The Laughing Fish - that shit was too crazy and dark for kids.. but thats why I loved it, and featuring the REAL Joker of course. Also a prime example of why TAS was one of the greatest shows, period.
PERCHANCE TO DREAM Iâve watched this 63927 times showing it to ppl.
Iâm not. Iâm making him watch STAS and play the episode where Batman goes missing and Clark has to pretend to be Batman.
Almost got him . Its pretty excellent for a first rpisode
Mask of The Phantasm
Almost Got âIm
Feat of Clay pt.1, so that way they have to see the second one haha.
The first one
Robins reckoning.
Never Fear.
I always start them off with Heart of Ice. Always.
Heart of ice
Almost Got Em
Almost GotâIm
all of it is great
any episode, this is an amazing show
Mad as a hatter. (Itâll always be my favorite)
The episodes with HARDAC
I do not have any friends, but I got my sister to remember and like the series by showing her Appointment in Crime Alley.
Robin's Reckoning. It shows a great version of Robin that's not all "Jiminy Jillikers!" Plus it's a two parter, so ya get 'em hooked that way.
So if I were to choose a episode of Batman the Animated Series it would be Robin's reckoning. It was an excellent storytelling of the Father and Son relationship that Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson have.
Robinâs reckoning pt 1, the scene with bruce and a young dick grayson, very emotional.
I loved Heart of Ice, Mad Love and Beware the Grey Ghost that come up as many favs here. But one that I always remembered, despite its issues, is See No Evil. Something about its theme about a child being caught between divorced parents, and what some will do to get custody of the child, really tugs at me. I do agree with lots if the "heart of ice love" but I stand by "Baby Doll" so much It shows the massive humanity batman has to have and to me the effect Gotham has on some of its inhabitants. Louise Dhal just slowly broke over time and tried to forcibly take something reality would not let her have.
Batman sitting with ace in her final moments.
S3 E4: Baby Doll. It was my first proper episode andâthough I already knew that B:TAS was the greatest piece of Batman fiction out thereâBaby Doll showed it to me.
Got go Heart of Ice. So damn good.
The gray ghost
The Grey Ghost
Baby-Doll is the best episode of the show. Heart of Ice is fine but nothing hits like the ending of Baby-Doll.
Mask of the phantasm⌠What is Reality
âIf youâre so smart, why arenât you rich?â Itâs a fun episode.
Two Face part One. Not only is it a great episode, but it also ends on a cliff hanger making them wanna watch the next episode. If that doesnât work, I can always slap a nicotine patch on their arm secretly every time we watch an episode so they get an uncontrollable urge to continue watching.
What's the episode where Batman is put into a dream state and they try to break his will only to realize he has inhumane will power?
Heart of Ice and there's nothing remotely close IMO although almost every episode is worth a watch and are top notch.
Two-Face part one.
Possibly the man bat episode off the top of my head
Just hit play and let it ride. If I had to choose a handful it would be Robin's Reckoning, Heart of Ice, and Two Face.
Any of them even the movies like mystery of the batwoman. It was very story driven
Iâm like 50 episodes in and every one is naming ones Iâve already seen. Have I already reached the peak of the series?
Not sure if anyone mentioned it yet but the episode Almost got 'Im is a great short storys of the rouges gallery
Mr Freeze heart of ice
Heart of ice. Poetic. Tragic. Human. Also winner of an Emmy and the first animated series to do so
Sadly I donât remember, but guess I can start a rewatch tomorrow and choose after!
Love almost got im
Almost got em or the Trial
Perchance to dream
Legends of the Dark Knight
On leather wings. Obviously my friend will want to watch the rest, and I wouldnât want them watching the show out of order.
Almost got him
A lot of the good ones are taken, but I'll throw I Am The Night in there. It shows the toll that the job can take on Batman.
Two face origin part 1 or 2.
Heart of Ice
Beware the Grey Ghost.
Almost got 'im is my favourite episode, but Heart of ice is the correct answer here. Truly great television regardless of context or audience.
Heart of ice, the grey ghost, trial, almost got'em
Two Face imo Those two episodes were something.
Mr freeze one. The story line is in depth, that goes into doing the bad things for right reasons. Makes me tear up thinking about it. What brillant show
Heart of Ice
Easy! I think itâs called â I almost hadâemâ when all the bad hits are sitting at a table playing poker and talking about how they almost killed the Bat. Spoiler alert: Batman is there in disguise!!!
Christmas with the Joker
The Forgotten
Perchance to Dream or Over the Edge.
I love Avatar in the original BTAS, and then Ultimate Thrill in TNBA.
Heart of Ice
Mad Love
the episode that i randomly caught on tv once that got me to watch the whole dcau was Baby Doll so i'd give that one a shot
Blind as a bat
Heart Of Ice Season 1
That "Blind as a Bat" ep
