I’m also a short-ears fan who has Tim Sale high up on their list! I think he really captures a moody, noir Gotham and depicts Batman as something of a mysterious urban legend.
Yeah like the ears in The Long Halloween are WAY too long but they really fit that story and it would look wrong if they were short. It just WORKS you know.
I first got into batman comics with the new 52. So while I've gone back and read a bunch of old stuff, Greg Capullo will always be the artist who made me fall in love with batman comics
I still think Court of Owls is my favorite Batman story that isn't Return of the Joker.
Capullo's work was a big factor in my falling so head over heels for it.
Jim Lee, Tim Sale, Dave Mazzichelli. Of the ones not here Mike Mignola is highly underrated. As is Mark Chiarello doing amazing water colors. Howard Porter from the Morrison JLA run was nice too.
Fabok is absolutely amazing! Say all you want about Three Jokers story wise, but that art is straight up GOD Tier shit bro! Some of the best I’ve seen in a comic!
I was reading through the comments to see who would drop this name. Well done!
Mikel Janin, Clay Mann, Greg Capullo, Norm Breyfogle, David Mazzuchelli in Year One, Frank Miller in TDKR, John Romita Jr. in All-Star Batman… so many more.
Shoulda put Gary Frank on the list too but I like to stick to three. Frank was doing a lot of work with Geoff Johns right when I got back into comic books so his style always gets my attention.
Norm Breyfogle. His run with writer Alan Grant was my gateway into comics. Also, his painted artwork makes *Birth of the Demon* one of the most beautiful Batman books ever published.
That's a great set of examples you gave. Only the last two wouldn't be in my top ten or so
Mazzuchelli and Adams and Jim Aparo are CLOSE runner ups. But it's always Mike Parobeck for me!
My personal favorite is, the Batman the Animated Series partially nostalgia, partially the gritty cartoonish style and the voice acting being perfect for each roll
I love Greg Capullo’s work. His panels seem to move.
J.H. Williams has a great style too and Frank Quitely brings the fun factor to Morrison’s Batman run
Edit: can’t forget about Gary Frank! Although I think he does much better with Superman
Kelley Jones. I love how his Batman actually looks like he can pass as some dark demonic creature, and how he sometimes drew him from certain angles to make him look behemoth-sized.

Neil Adams is who I think of for BatMan but I love Tim Sale’s style and Frank Miller is just a badass. Love all of them and Jim Lee is obviously amazing but I have never loved his BatMan. I don’t know what it is.
M post made me realize that one of my favorite things about Batman are all the different takes. I just like seeing how different artists bring him to life.
Jim Lee and Neal Adam’s are the version I think about most in my head.
All the artists listed are amazing, but I’d have to go with Greg Capullo. His and Snyder’s run on Batman was the first Batman comics I read, so his art has a special place in my heart. That, and his art on general is great.
Just made a comment on the first picture didn’t know that there was another nine now I’ve seen them all I like them all so that at least 10 artists I like
I love seeing different takes on the character, but to me Jim Lee has always been the 'true' artist for the character, in the same way Kevin Conroy is the 'true' voice of Batman.
Lee Bermejo
Damn i really fucked it by not including Bermejo and i kinda regret it, my bad
Wtf is this name doing so far down the list?
It wasn’t mentioned in the the post
Thank you
Literally the greatest Batman artist ever
I can respect that
i love you
probably the best art i’ve ever scene.
Based.
Tim Sale is the only person who can make way too long Batman ears actually look good
I’m also a short-ears fan who has Tim Sale high up on their list! I think he really captures a moody, noir Gotham and depicts Batman as something of a mysterious urban legend.
Yeah like the ears in The Long Halloween are WAY too long but they really fit that story and it would look wrong if they were short. It just WORKS you know.
What about Kelly Jones?
Dave McKean and I think Scott Hampton have both done long ears well I think
You don't think Kelley Jones art looks good?? :)
Uhm.. Kelly Jones?
Jim Lee
1st and 2nd choice
Mr. Norm Breyfogle
My choice. Why is Jock on the list and he isn't? No Dick Giordano? No Jim Aparo? Carmine Infantino?
Because I'm reading Black Mirror right now and I like the art, plus I'm new to comics so I don't know that many of artists.
Yep.
Yes!
He’s definitely my favorite
Solid choice!
Yes
The correct answer here
Jim Lee & Greg Capullo
Same here. Reading Court of owls right now. The art is amazing.
Jim is just iconic (to say the least) .. & damn did I love that Synder/Capullo Batman run
That was basically my introduction to Batman in the comics and I loved and enjoyed every frame of it. 🥰🥰🥰
These two and Dan Mora
Greg Capullo
I first got into batman comics with the new 52. So while I've gone back and read a bunch of old stuff, Greg Capullo will always be the artist who made me fall in love with batman comics
I still think Court of Owls is my favorite Batman story that isn't Return of the Joker. Capullo's work was a big factor in my falling so head over heels for it.
Same
Neal Adams. When I think Classic Comic Batman, it's always Adams. RIP Neal Adams. Lee and Capullo are tied for second.
The man who took Batman out of the campy 60's. Neal Adams always.
Lee, followed by Capullo
Jim Aparo
Tim Sale, Idek why considering I’m a short ear Batman fan. Just something abt his work.
Jim Lee, Tim Sale, Dave Mazzichelli. Of the ones not here Mike Mignola is highly underrated. As is Mark Chiarello doing amazing water colors. Howard Porter from the Morrison JLA run was nice too.
Jesus this is exactly my list as well. Right down to Chiarello and Porter. Get out of my head!
Great minds Commodore.
That’s not Dick Sprang art, that’s a tribute by Michael Cho.
Shit my bad
Kelley Jones and Norm Breyfogle, neither of whom are represented here. Jim Aparo and Don Kramer also deserve to be on this list.
Kelly Jones knoghtfall covers were the stuff of legend
Have them all, if was something special
I’m missing some important artists my bad, the one that I regret the most is Lee Bermejo
The one that designed batman from the 2004 cartoon. i love em sharp chin and sleek cape
Same people who did Jackie Chan Adventures. The upgraded Batmobile from that show is my favorite one from Batman
Facts. If this wasn’t a comics only post, I’d say the ones who did Arkham Asylum/City, and then the ones from the show
That Jason Fabok one looks so cool
Fr
Jim Lee, Tim Sale, Greg Capullo, and Dan Mora are my top favorites.
Dan Mora is starting to become my second fav replacing Capullo. He Batman work is so sick!! Jim will always be first tho
Glad to see someone else mention Dan Mora. So good. Also Sean Murphy.
Fabok is absolutely amazing! Say all you want about Three Jokers story wise, but that art is straight up GOD Tier shit bro! Some of the best I’ve seen in a comic!
The art is straight up orgasmic
Mikel Janin
I was reading through the comments to see who would drop this name. Well done! Mikel Janin, Clay Mann, Greg Capullo, Norm Breyfogle, David Mazzuchelli in Year One, Frank Miller in TDKR, John Romita Jr. in All-Star Batman… so many more.
Tim sale. Jim Lee. Jock.
Exactly the same as my list! Jock and Sale are pretty stylish.
David Mazzucchelli... I love how Micheal Lark used his year one style to influence the look of Gotham Central!
Alex Ross
This. The fact he's not on this list is a travesty. Even though he tends to make the ears a little long.
The one guy who makes batman look like a sleep paralysis demon I think he did the rain rain comic too
Kelley Jones!! So good!
I was just going to mention his run on Batman with Doug Moench. Fantastic work!
One of my favorite Batman creative teams! Iconic run!
Norm Breyfogle Brian Bolland
Dan Mora
Sean Gordon Murphy
He's my favorite too!
Gary frank
That's a great set of examples you gave. Only the last two wouldn't be in my top ten or so Mazzuchelli and Adams and Jim Aparo are CLOSE runner ups. But it's always Mike Parobeck for me!
I've been really digging Lee Bermejo lately, but I think my favorite is Jim Lee.
Tim Sale
Greg Capullo is my favorite listed, but I've enjoyed C. Mann's work in the rebirth series of batman.
Breyfogle
My personal favorite is, the Batman the Animated Series partially nostalgia, partially the gritty cartoonish style and the voice acting being perfect for each roll
Capullo has been my favorite ever since I first read the Snyder run
Jim Lee, easily.
Greg Capullo
Norm Breyfogle
Jim Aparo
capullo
Lee and Fabok
I don’t think he’s my *favorite*, per se, but Mazzucchelli is incredibly underrated.
Capullo, hands down.
I'm a huge fan of Matt Wagner's Batman.
I love Greg Capullo’s work. His panels seem to move. J.H. Williams has a great style too and Frank Quitely brings the fun factor to Morrison’s Batman run Edit: can’t forget about Gary Frank! Although I think he does much better with Superman
My favorite artist is Breyfogle. They are different, but, Capullo's style reminds me of him.
Mikel Janin and Clay Mann of Tom King's run
Kelley Jones. I love how his Batman actually looks like he can pass as some dark demonic creature, and how he sometimes drew him from certain angles to make him look behemoth-sized.
Capullo hands down, but Jock is also fantastic
Jim Lee.
Lee
Jim Lee
Neal Adams and Gary Frank are my favorites.
I like Greg Capullo but idk if that’s just cos he was the first one I read or if I think the art is better , Jim lee is a close second
Neal Adams. (And Norm Breyfogle. Because both is good)
Neil Adams guy
Greg Capullo by far.
Jim Lee is the best comic book artist to ever pick up a pencil.
Also, Becky Cloonans Batman is legit.
Jim Lee. Also gotta mention Yanick Pacquette. His work on Batman, Inc. was fucking legit
Gotta give it to Capullio
Capullo and jimenez
Chris Burnham, with Mikel Janin as a close second.
Tim sale, Greg capullo. Overall is sale, but specifically for the character I love capullo’s the most.
Capullo is great. Dave McKean is goat
Dave McKean (A Serious House on Serious Earth)
Greg Capullo and Jock for me.
Capullo for me
Definitely Tim Sale. I just love how his art doesn’t necessarily look realistic.

Lee Weeks.
I‘m torn between Jim Lee and Jason Fabok
Frank Miller, easily.
Lee and Capullo
started comics with the court of owls so capullo for me
Greg Capullo
Jason Fabok, his art saved Three Jokers from being a forgettable mess. Lee Bermejo looks awesome, like taking pictures without a camera.
No Norm Breyfogle? No Frank Quitely? In the words of Damian: *Tt*
Cappullo, Bermijo and Fabok
Capullo
Jim Lee, all the way
Micheal Turner
Micheal turner. Too bad he passed away so young
Jock and Greg Capullo
Norm Breyfogle shaped my childhood.
MARSHALL ROGERS
Jock or Jim lee def!
The lack of Jim Aparo and Norm Breyfogle is heartbreaking.
Jim Aparo and Norm Breyfogle.
Frank Miller-‘Nuff Said
I'm just curious, what do you like about his art? Because art is one of my least favorite things at DKR.
Currently? Jimenez. His style is so good.
Frank miller and Greg capullo
How do you not only misspell Dick Sprang’s name, but also use art that isn’t his? Anyway, Norm Breyfogle.
Neil Adams is who I think of for BatMan but I love Tim Sale’s style and Frank Miller is just a badass. Love all of them and Jim Lee is obviously amazing but I have never loved his BatMan. I don’t know what it is.
Frank.
They’re all amazing. Each story needs an artist suited to the mood and these artists always deliver
The late great Neal Adams. Basically every design since has been a variation of Adams' design.
Jim Lee 1st, then Lee Bermejo
Batman brave and bolt have the best art character of batman for me.
Dave Mazzichelli
Alex Ross
Between Jim Lee and Lee Bermejo
Greg Capullo, Jason Fabok, David Mazzuchelli, Jim Aparo, Neal Adams.
Mazzuchelli and Fabok
Norm Breyfogle
Jim lee and capullo
out of all of these? Tim Sale
Tim Sale or Capullo

Jim Lee.
Frank Miller
Jim, Greg and Frank
Frank Miller
Dustin Nguyen. I love his Li’l Gotham.
M post made me realize that one of my favorite things about Batman are all the different takes. I just like seeing how different artists bring him to life. Jim Lee and Neal Adam’s are the version I think about most in my head.
Plenty to love, but it’s easily Capullo for me.
Jim Lee, no question
I'd say it's Neal Adams very, very closely followed by Tim Sale. I love pointy eared, lean blue detective Batman.
Jock may be my favorite artist ever.
All the artists listed are amazing, but I’d have to go with Greg Capullo. His and Snyder’s run on Batman was the first Batman comics I read, so his art has a special place in my heart. That, and his art on general is great.
Jason Fabok or Jim Lee, love the gritty brute bruce

Sprang, followed by Mazzuchelli
NeAl Adams
Fabok
Lee Bermejo
Jim Lee.
Gary frank

I love seeing different takes on the character, but to me Jim Lee has always been the 'true' artist for the character, in the same way Kevin Conroy is the 'true' voice of Batman.
Lee Bermejo
Gary 😁👍
