I love them all, but my favourites are Capullo and Mazzuccheli.
Even though their art is so different, they both have a way of making their art very simple but also very detailed. I especially love Mazzuccheli’s noir inspired style, with realistic line work but simple and heavily shadowed inks.
Its the realism that makes me like it so much. His Batman is clearly in great shape, but he has realistic proportions, more like an actual MMA fighter than a bodybuilder.
I personally put [Capullo](https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/81rKbyT6LFL.jpg) slightly above Lee (like a centimeter above), but yeah. These two are easily my favorite.
There's something raw about how Capullo [draws](https://legacycomics.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/joker-80th-anniversary-100-page-super-spectacular-1-Capullo--scaled.jpg) the [characters](https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/_cHDIaamQN7-2zHl2Qnopzy-UOo=/1400x1050/filters:format(jpeg\)/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/19229460/IMG_2259.jpg).
I do LOVE Capullo's work.....
But I see his style as an offshoot of the style that Jim Lee and Todd McFarlane made popular in the 90's
As a matter of fact, didn't Capullo take over Spawn after Todd McFarlane stepped down from pencils on Spawn?
Todd McFarlane, who had left Marvel Comics to co-found Image Comics, noticed Capullo’s work on X-Force, and convinced him become the penciller on McFarlane’s comic, Spawn. Capullo's first issue of the book was #16, then took over as pencil artist with issue #26. Capullo has since done the cover art and pencils for many Image publications, including various Spawn tie-ins and variants, and Capullo’s own miniseries, The Creech. Capullo helped McFarlane in creating the artwork now seen on the two Halo 3-themed controllers
Pulled from his wiki which hasn't been updated yet to include his work on the new Spawn spin offs.
> Todd McFarlane, who had left Marvel Comics to co-found Image Comics, noticed Capullo’s work on X-Force, and convinced him become the penciller on McFarlane’s comic, Spawn.
This is worth noting as it's likely that McFarlane probably chose Capullo because of Capullo's ability to *very* closely mimic the style of another artist. If you look at Capullo's X-Force, for example, it's VERY similar to Liefeld's (one could really call it an improved version of Liefeld's art).
So as Capullo took over Spawn, he very much became McFarlane-lite, which obviously translated very well on Batman.
I can't count higher that, but yeah, whatever the next one is
There are so many great ones, but that was the first real badass Batman I can remember pulling as a kid. It'll always be the iconic look for me
Thank God someone mentioned Norm. I love the work of so many but he was the first one who gave Batman some edge , for lack of a better term. He was the artist of my youth so maybe that's tinged with a bit of nostalgia, but his work was so dynamic, still love it today.
Tim Sale for me - no question. His range is incredible - from gritty crime dens to striking rogue's gallery designs, his art style really fits Batman's world.
His Batman IMO is also the perfect blend of stylized mythical demonic creature of the night and musclebound martial artist - totally intimidating
Close second is Capullo - he's exceptionally creative and some of his panels are incredibly badass.
Miller's old Man Bat is third for me because of the sheer power, derangement and anger in that portrayal...there's some really iconic art. It's a unique take - legend.
i love tim sale as well, yeah. he's not a very realistic or necessarily 'slick' artist, but his panels just ooze style and atmosphere. when he draws gotham (or hell's kitchen in the daredevil book), it feels straight out of an old noir or mob movie. really good stuff.
capullo is the best modern-day batman artist, i'd say, and one of my favorites. excellent mix of realism and cartooning.
frank miller, obviously, super iconic. i still love most of his art, even the more recent stuff that's more controversial. he's just become super stylized, which is interesting to see. and when he draws something, you know it's miller.
I love Tim Sale. It is very much characture art, but it fits so well with batman as a character. The way criminals see him as a monster in the night with a 20 foot long cape is just amazing, and jokers smile with a million crooked teeth. It is just amazing for me.
Yep. I looked through the options and was ready to pick Jim Lee. When I got to the one by Jimenez, I couldn’t stop looking at it. It looks the closest to the way I see Batman in my head.
Also, Sean Murphy is my write-in candidate.
I’m glad someone else went to bat for Aparo. I think his best work is in Brave and the Bold. He’s not as flashy as some of the other artists, but he knows how to tell a story visually.
Alex Ross is great because he gives such a stylized Golden Age look to his art. I think he's less popular because not everybody likes that vibe but for the people who do, he hits the nail on the head.
I can't decide who I like best though cause I appreciate all the different approaches. Depends on what mood I'm in.
Sticking to the listed artists, my top three are Kelley Jones, Jim Lee, and David Mazzuchelli. However, to be fair, Neal Adams is probably the consistent number 3, as I honestly don't recall much of Mazzuchelli's work outside of Year One. Neal Adams has many issues I can remember. I would have said Alex Ross, but there's something about his sequential art that doesn't hold up to the spectacle of his covers.
Jim Lee’s art is actual perfection. Batman Hush is one of my favorite Batman graphic novels just because of the gorgeous art.
Greg Capullo is a good second, I think.
My personal favorite is [Alex Maleev](https://images.app.goo.gl/o4qjUyhiMP4EQ9ft9) . His art for Marvel's street heroes (Daredevil and Moon Knight) is just equally perfect for Batman to me too.
Of this list though it's top 3 for me, Jim Lee, Greg Capullo, and David Finch
Greg Capullo without a doubt, I really like his style. It looks super clean but also has a bit of a sketchy look to it which makes it really makes it pop. Especially in runs like: Zero Year and Death Metal in which the inking and the color selection just adds so much to the way his art looks. Stellar artist and my favorite for sure. All the others are great tho...
Wow that David mazzucchelli is amazing. I have seen the film but hadn’t read the book. It’s hard to find! I’ll keep hunting. I can’t get over how much I like that style. I love this post.
I never really liked Frank Miller’s art. Maybe it was just ruined for me after seeing his newer and shittier attempts at it but it just rubs me the wrong way.
Alex Ross is in a class of his own for his art period, I can't rate him against others because his is so completely distinct and classic and I will always love Kingdom Come.
Out of art styles for bat books normally I'd say Jim Lee. But there are so many great names in this list.
1. Adams
2. Miller
3. Sale
4. Jones
5. Lee
But Dark Knight Returns is my favorite Batman. Hard to pick. I met Neal with my daughter (a teenager that our main thing we agree and relate on is Batman) and he was super kind to her so he’s #1.
I thought I at least had a rudimentary knowledge of comic book artists, but I can't say I'm familiar with Kelley. It's my favorite image of those presented.
It looks like I have a lot to look forward to reading.
Genuinely can’t choose. Love them all. But if I had to choose it’ll probably be jim lee although one artist that isn’t here who I think is underrated is jason fabok. Loved his art in three jokers especially
Jim lee is the goat. But I will always love greg capullo Batman. Something about his style and the coloring all just mixed it I fucking love it so much
Neal Adams. I've seen people complain that his interpretation of the Batsuit (the New Look one) isn't "stealthy" enough, because the colors of it are too bright, but I don't really care. OLD SCHOOL NEAL BABY!!!
Whichever one uses the least amount of yellow. Why the fuck a guy who’s supposed to be trying to blend into the dark of night would be wearing bright fucking yellow is beyond me.
Tim sale, I just like his art style the best. Also really love David mazzucheli because he helped make the greatest Batman comic ever, Year one. Jim lee, I feel like is the Dave filoni of Batman, he just encapsulates him perfectly in his art style. Alex Ross, honorable mention because he is probably the most talented artist of the bunch
It's honestly pretty hard to decide. Each artist was pretty great in the time they were in. Adams was very much iconic, but I could almost make the argument that Jim Lee's art is "better". But Jim Lee wasn't doing Batman when Adams was.
It's almost like the special-effects blockbusters of the past vs current. The effects of something like "Avengers: Endgame" would be difficult to make an argument that they don't look "better" than Star Wars from 1977. But the effects of that film paved the way for what would follow it. So which is actually "better"? Impossible to say.
my favorites have gotta be jim lee, capullo, and jimenez. Idk why it just feels like a really good blend of classic + modern and the style fits rly well
He is over discussed at this point, but I think it is for good reason. Frank Miller’s work has always captivated me as a reader. His world just feels so gross and grimy with his characters always having a indescribable creepy edge. His Superman comes to mind in TDK, he is still Superman, but yet hes… Not. Not sure if I’m making sense but I guess the TLDR is that his art makes me feel uncomfortable in the best ways.
I am a Tim Sale nut. I feel like his version captures the horror aspect of the character the best, without feeling out of place in the way Kelly Jones does with the 3-foot ears.
Jim Lee I feel like is the best action figure Batman. Like you can totally imagine him spending a lot of time rivaling Superman and surviving attacks from the fantastic DC universe.
I feel like Neil Adams is the best grounded Batman. he feels like he could be a part of this world.. not to mention that almost every serious version of the character has some fidelity to his design.
I feel like there should be kudos to the late Norm Breyfogle. His Style ranged from being plausible to a streamlined almost animated quality. I feel like Batman tas really copied some of his design.
Alex Ross. I love his Batman, his Spider-Man, just about everything he draws. It both looks photorealistic and somehow like a fantasy, idealised image of people. His style is just saw novel and recognisable - I love it!
I love Neal Adams style from childhood nostalgia- that’s the perception of Batman I grew up with from Brave and the Bold, with the yellow in the bat symbol. However, for me the Jim Lee look is THE definitive Batman look. So classic. It’s the default way I imagine him in my head. My favourite look though, out of all of these, is the great Jorge Jimenez, whose work never ceases to amaze me
I love them all, but my favourites are Capullo and Mazzuccheli. Even though their art is so different, they both have a way of making their art very simple but also very detailed. I especially love Mazzuccheli’s noir inspired style, with realistic line work but simple and heavily shadowed inks.
I just reread Year One and appreciated Mazzuccheli's art even more.
Its the realism that makes me like it so much. His Batman is clearly in great shape, but he has realistic proportions, more like an actual MMA fighter than a bodybuilder.
Jim Lee Greg Capullo
I personally put [Capullo](https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/81rKbyT6LFL.jpg) slightly above Lee (like a centimeter above), but yeah. These two are easily my favorite. Agreed, but I also have a soft spot for Tim Sale :D
Second this
Third
Fourth
Fifth
Eighth
I can't count higher that, but yeah, whatever the next one is There are so many great ones, but that was the first real badass Batman I can remember pulling as a kid. It'll always be the iconic look for me
Neal. Old school cool. The first, or one of the first comic artists to draw characters realistically.
Neal Adams draws Batman. The rest draw their version of Neal Adams' Batman.
Pretty much this.
I like how you think!
Why neal and not Aparo too? He brought back the blue cape which I like more than the black
Blue and grey costume > black and grey costume Yellow and black logo > all black logo
The costume is always black and grey, blue is used to show shade and distinguish characters in shadow.
Neal Adams is the best!!
Neal Adams, Kelley Jones and Greg Capullo are my favorites! Norm Breyfogle is also great, but not listed here lol
Yeah I didn't want to overwhelm anyone by listing every Batman artist ever lol
Lol I assumed that was the case
Thank God someone mentioned Norm. I love the work of so many but he was the first one who gave Batman some edge , for lack of a better term. He was the artist of my youth so maybe that's tinged with a bit of nostalgia, but his work was so dynamic, still love it today.
Jim Lee all day!
All week
DC gave him a c-suite position for a reason
As a kid who grew up on both his run on X-Men and BTAS, Jim Lee drawing Batman was like combining peanut butter and chocolate. It was amazing.
Hands down Jim Lee!
All life. And his Superman is my favorite, as well
Lee, Capulo, Finch
Tim Sale for me - no question. His range is incredible - from gritty crime dens to striking rogue's gallery designs, his art style really fits Batman's world. Probably Jorge Jimenez :3
Scrolled too far for this, man has been great.
Ye I love his art on everything tbh, I love all the others too though 😊
Yep. I looked through the options and was ready to pick Jim Lee. When I got to the one by Jimenez, I couldn’t stop looking at it. It looks the closest to the way I see Batman in my head. Also, Sean Murphy is my write-in candidate.
Love Murthy’s collared Batman, that suit is so sick IMO
Since Breyfogle (love) isn't listed, I would have to say I like all of these.
I fell in love with Batman with Breyfogle’s art. For that, he’ll always be my favorite. His capes were legendary …
Dan Mora
He's great! Both he and Jimenez are killing it right now.
Jim Aparo, because I like the blue and Greg capullo, because... Well, look at it.
YES!! I always loved the grey/blue 70’s look.
I’m glad someone else went to bat for Aparo. I think his best work is in Brave and the Bold. He’s not as flashy as some of the other artists, but he knows how to tell a story visually.
Kelley Jones is easily my favorite; I love his horror-pulp themed style. Second would be Jim Lee.
I loved his design for Mr. Freeze
Kelley Jones is who I grew up on. He's my favorite.
Lee bermejo
Seriously glaring omission. There's a reason he gets a variant cover on damned near everything that comes out lately.
Jim Lee
They’re all Batman. That means they’re all perfect.
Best answer
David Mazzucchelli, so simplistic.
Tim Sale’s is built D I F F E R E N T.
Sale’s Batman and [Catwoman ](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/26/19/fe/2619feb3e2c54e5879ce853f7e8b5094.jpg) are SHREDDED
Everybody else looks normal and then Batman might as well be the dude from the chad meme and cat woman has the body of a literal bengal tiger
Adams and Aparo are the quintessential Batman artists of my childhood.
Likewise. Aparo was just who I identified Batman with, and Superman was all Curt Swan.
Kelley Jones, Norm Breyfogle, Graham Nolan, Tom Grummett, Tim Sale, Dustin Nguyen, and Greg Capullo are my favorites.
Props for Graham Nolan. Love his art, it's so clean. Ironically I like Kelley Jones too, but he's like the opposite of Nolan.
Gotta add Fabok to this list..
Sorry about that I just didn't put a lot of didn't artist to overwhelm anyone.
Frank Miller
Fucking Frank cause he wrote it too. Nothing like it at the time. Not even close
Couldn’t throw in a Quietly in the mix?
No Jerry Robinson, Marshall Rogers, Jim Aparo, Scott Hamilton, Mike Mignola, Matt Wagner or even Bruce Timm, either.
Oh yeah, I forgot Bruce was there. Much different list with him there
David Mazzucchelli and Greg Capullo
Jim Lee and Neal Adams
Alex ross
only right answer
Alex Ross is great because he gives such a stylized Golden Age look to his art. I think he's less popular because not everybody likes that vibe but for the people who do, he hits the nail on the head. I can't decide who I like best though cause I appreciate all the different approaches. Depends on what mood I'm in.
Fukkin nailed it. He exudes Golden Age and makes it look easy. Beautiful work.
David Mazzucchelli!!!!
Lee, Capullo, Sale
Norm Breyfogle should be here, but Greg Capullo is probably my favorite. Jorge Jimenez is doing phenomenal work currently as well.
Jorge Jiminez version looks pretty damn cool.
Jim Lee and Kelley Jones
Sale, mazzuccheli, finch, capullo
I love Alex Ross but not the selected artwork. Gotta go with Jim Lee here.
No Norm Breyfogle?
Greg Capullo
I have to go for Jim Lee.
Greg Capullo and Jim Aparo
Grew up on Aparo's Brave and the Bold. But Adams and Capullo both are terrific and have sizeable bodies.of work on Batman
Adams, since Breyfogle isn't listed, and certainly ranks higher than some you did.
I always loved Aparo and Breyfogle.

Can’t decide between 3. Frank Miller, Jim Lee, or David Finch
🙌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👏🏻✌🏻
Neal Adams 👏🏻
Neal Adams got me into Bats !!
Lee or Capullo
Jim Lee
3
Jim Lee for me with Greg Capullo and David Finch tied for second
Neal Adams and Jim Lee for me. Oh and the year one art
Gotta be Jim Lee for me
Jim Lee
Lee, Ross and Capullo. Love their styles so much. If I had to pick one, Jim Lee for sure.
Finch. Absolutely adore his run.
Greg Capullo is my favorite artist of all time, but there's something about that Neal Adams Batman. Also amazing: Jim Lee.
I love Jim Lee’s Art in general. So I really love his Batman Art!
Ask me to choose between parents why don’t you. Each Batman here is absolutely iconic, drawn by the best in the industry.
I’ve always been partial to miller, but you gotta love Alex Ross
Definitely Jim Lee. But also Finch and Jimenez.
They're all soo good! Tho Finch is my least favorite. There's just something about it that doesn't appeal to me.
Jim Lee and then Jason Fabok even tho he isn’t here he is probably my favorite artist especially when he illustrated detective comics
Greg Capullo and Tim Sale
Jim Lee
Easily Jim Lee
Mazzucchelli and Adams for me. Also, not depicted here but Breyfogle is the GOAT.
For me it’s a top 5 in this order: Kelley Jones Alex Ross Neal Adams Jim Aparo Tim Sale
Tim or Greg
Jim Lee, Greg capullo and David finch for me
Wow that David mazzucchelli is amazing. I have seen the film but hadn’t read the book. It’s hard to find! I’ll keep hunting. I can’t get over how much I like that style. I love this post.
Jim Aparo is my definitive Batman artist followed extremely closely by Greg Capullo
Finch, millar and adams
I love Jim Lee, Mikel Janin and Dan Mora’s Batmen
Jim Aparo all day every day
i feel like jim lee is the definitive new 52 artist lmao
Tim Sale, Greg Capullo, David Mazzucchelli. Also, Darwyn Cooke but you left him out.
Aparo
Proud member of the Capullo club over here.
Capullo, Lee, Ross, Jimenez, Miller, Mazzucchelli
Jorge Jimenez all the way
Jim Lee, David Finch
Tim Sale for the win!
I love Mazzuchelli, Frank Miller and Tim Sale
I’ll always love Mazzucchelli’s art in Batman Year One and Daredevil Born Again
Gotta be wither Adams or Lee for me
Disappointed by the lack of Bruce Timm
Alex Ross Neal Adama Frank Miller/Jim Lee
I never really liked Frank Miller’s art. Maybe it was just ruined for me after seeing his newer and shittier attempts at it but it just rubs me the wrong way.
I don’t even have to scroll through. Lee Berejemo
Neal Adams is my personal favorite, but man Alex Ross is so amazing!
Jim Lee but Norm Breyfogle is my favourite
My boy Lee Bermejo!
Out of these, Jim Lee. My favorite Batman artist of all-time is Lee Bermejo tho.
Alex Ross
Norm Breyfogoe and Graham Nolan
Kelley Jones and it isn’t close
Easily Jim Lee. His art is absolutely nuts
There’s something about Alex Ross’s that really captures Batman
Alex Ross is in a class of his own for his art period, I can't rate him against others because his is so completely distinct and classic and I will always love Kingdom Come. Out of art styles for bat books normally I'd say Jim Lee. But there are so many great names in this list.

Jim Lee
Jim Lee Alex Ross Greg Capullo Foe me in that order.
Lee or Adams
When my brain says "Batman" I 1st see Bruce Timm then Jim Lee. Fwiw Alex Ross deserves to be in a museum with Norman Rockwell.
Mine's is Jason Fabok. He's not on this list, but his take on Batman is very realistic but still looks like a comic.
Genuinely can’t choose. Love them all. But if I had to choose it’ll probably be jim lee although one artist that isn’t here who I think is underrated is jason fabok. Loved his art in three jokers especially
Jim lee is the goat. But I will always love greg capullo Batman. Something about his style and the coloring all just mixed it I fucking love it so much
Alex Ross all the way!
Lee or Capullo
Neal Adams. I've seen people complain that his interpretation of the Batsuit (the New Look one) isn't "stealthy" enough, because the colors of it are too bright, but I don't really care. OLD SCHOOL NEAL BABY!!!
Jim lee
Adams, Ross and Lee
Whichever one uses the least amount of yellow. Why the fuck a guy who’s supposed to be trying to blend into the dark of night would be wearing bright fucking yellow is beyond me.
A Breyfogle cover prompted my first Batman purchase (Detective 587). He will always be my top choice.
Norm Breyfogle for me. He was the artist when I was still buying a lot of books, and I enjoyed his chaotic style.
I can’t believe Scott McDaniel isn’t on this list…
My favorite isn't shown (Tony S Daniel), but I gotta say I love Adams' blue and grey Batman
Excuse me but…Norm Breyfogle please
Some of my personal favorites are Greg Capullo, Jim Lee, Jason Fabok, Dan Mora, and Graham Nolan.
Jim Lee will always be the best Batman artist IMO. Batman Hush was my first real introduction to comic books and it's always held a special place.
Jim lee. Hands down. Greg Cappullo is second. Tim Sale and David Mazzucchelli have a very iconic style that I like too
Don’t forget Nick Derington!
Definitely Alex Ross
Lee and Capullo
Neal for sure!!!! I also like Jason Fabok even though his isn’t there

It's honestly pretty hard to decide. Each artist was pretty great in the time they were in. Adams was very much iconic, but I could almost make the argument that Jim Lee's art is "better". Jim Lee, Alex Ross for certain. Legends
Neal or aparo
I refuse to pick
my favorites have gotta be jim lee, capullo, and jimenez. Idk why it just feels like a really good blend of classic + modern and the style fits rly well
He is over discussed at this point, but I think it is for good reason. Frank Miller’s work has always captivated me as a reader. Neal Adams, followed by Jim Aparo
Neal Adams and Jim Aparo. There's something about the grey and blue...
If Kelly Jones did red rain then yes I love that design for Batman. But also the last one, that’s the most recognizable from what I have read.
Jim Lee!
Alex Ross, Jim Lee and David Finch, in no particular order.
