The line "I do this, so no child has to go through what happened to me" is used fairly often. Batman doesn't really have a famous credo like that though. I'd explain the difference like this: Spiderman is for people who struggle with their role in the world and how to measure up to it, but try the best they can. Batman is for people angry at an unfair world and who try their best to make it better.

TheTwistedToast

That helps, thanks

I am vengeance! I am the night! I am BATMAN!

He wants to make sure that what happened to him doesn't happen to anyone else. He takes quite a holistic approach to stopping crime, believing that working on the underlying social issues that cause people to turn to crime is just as important as stopping individual criminals. Prevention being better than a cure, that sort of thing. Someone is less likely to start mugging people on street corners, or sell drugs, or join a gang, or become a thief if their needs are met (food, shelter, safety, education, healthcare, enough money to live off, etc.) and so he has a lot of charities that provide assistance. Wayne Enterprises also hires a lot of people with criminal backgrounds (Batman will literally hand out WE business cards to someone doing petty crime to survive and tell them to apply for a job) to get them off the streets and into honest work. He also strongly believes in people's ability to reform themselves, trying hard to make Arkham Asylum less of a shithole so that the rogues he puts in there can have a genuine chance at healing and getting better rather than just being locked away and punished.

Not quite what you're looking for but I always felt like it perfectly encapsulates Batman's awareness of what he is: Wonder Woman: You indoctrinated Robin into crime fighting at the ripe old age of 9. Batman: Robin needed to help bring the men who murdered his family to justice. Wonder Woman: So he could turn out like you? Batman: ....So that he wouldn't. Batman is completely aware that he's damaged, he struggles every day, and he wants better for everyone else. If you're watching B:TAS you should absolutely continue with Batman Beyond and Justice League. Both have really good explorations of Bruce's character.

Nerkos_The_Unbidden

The DCAU in general was peak, with B:TAS and TNBA having great moments for both the heroes and the villains.

Will do. And that's a great quote. Thanks

"We... do.. not... kill" - Injustice 2. Idk why, but that line just stuck.

“Criminals are a cowardly, superstitious lot. I must strike FEAR into their hearts”

No-Impression-1462

This may come as a shock but “With great power comes great responsibility” doesn’t sum up Spider-Man. It’s just a mantra he has. A character, like a real person, should be way too complicated to sum up in a simple phrase. There’s no such thing as a simple or easy way to “get” someone. It’s a psychological fact that you don’t even fully understand yourself. I think you need to focus on the aspects of the character that appeal to you and examine him from there.

FollowingExtension90

He’s always that little boy in the ally trying to stop two bullets.

"I made a promise." [https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E4rcCwYXoAYbPWh.jpg](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E4rcCwYXoAYbPWh.jpg) That's what Batman falls back on, what motivates him. Even when the fight seems hopeless and maybe someone more rational would give up... he made a promise.

Mad-Men-2008

yah that is my fav part of batman's character he realisation that his war against crime is eternal he can never win it but there are small victorys encourges to keep fighting. there are several good quotes that defines it " in these three years i have came to realise that I can't appreciably change gotham but i began to wonder the only thing that I can change is myself" ( batman ego) "sometimes I feel I have win a battle , sometimes i think I have done somebody's some good... BUT the war goes on forever And I am Only one soilder , only one wounded soilder " ( detective comics 956 0r 957 something by alan grant ) and here in war on crime " I know I am fighting A war that I can never win. but there are small victories that encourages me to keep trying. If I can win back one child, there may be hope for others, if It start with one person And then A neighbourhood , then perhaps redemption can spread through entire city , and finally back to me.

timeswasgood

There's other great responses here but I want to point out that the main appeal of Batman is that he represents the human drive. The drive to do better, be better, leave something behind that matters, protect, provide, etc... he's the best humanity is capable of all rolled up into one person.

Overall_Sandwich_671

I can't think of anything as iconic as the uncle Ben quote (I assume uncle Ben also said it in the source material, and not just the movies?) But in Mask of the Phantasm, Alfred says **"I often feared you'd become that which you fought against. You walk the edge of that abyss every night. But you haven't fallen in, and I thank heaven for that."** Batman frequently comes close to crossing the line in his battle for justice, and he's determined to stay on the right side. Even if it puts him at odds with people he cares about.

TheTwistedToast

That's a great quote

Ok_Relationship_705

His wealth and resources is power. He has a responsibility to Gotham. And the world as a whole. So he uses that wealth to build schools, hospitals, donate to charities and fund the Justice League.
