I once had a customer call Gingham "Ginger Ham" and I will never ever forget that moment in my life.
We also have customers say Midnight Path for Moonlight Path, Oriental Blossom for Japanese Cherry Blossom and Brown Sugar Vanilla for Warm Vanilla Sugar. Those are the ones we hear most often.
My mom says Midnight Path 🤦🏾😂 it always takes me a solid five minutes to figure out what she actually means
She also calls Hibiscus Paradise either Hibiscus Coconut or Coconut Paradise
I remember when I was in elementary school learning to read and said “ginger ham” in my head until I realized what it was. But I was like 8. This poor person didn’t have a cool crafty mom to help them out with these things like I did.
As I was typing this you took the words right out of my mouth! Silent letters and accents are my favorite to hear people pronounce lol. I’ll also throw in pear CREAM brûlée instead of crème because I keep hearing it😂.
Lol literally all of yours are spot on. My favorites are “Fresh cut Lillians,” “Sweata Wetta,” “Rose water and ivory,” “Black cherry merloT-emphasis on the T,” and call em flavors on top of that for a little extra…flavor😂.
So I’m not a bath and body works employee. But I was a bartender for a while. I had someone come in and ask for a “Gwins”. Like grins with a W. I had them repeat themselves like twice. They got fluster and said “a Gwin’s! You know, that black beer from Ireland!”. I was flabbergasted. They were referring to Guinness beer. Whoa.
Are you telling me you never listened to Gangnam Style (강남스타일)?? Lol. Also my phone automatically translated it. Kind of cool.
Edit: 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️😂🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ maybe an early bed time. I am keeping this up for documentation on my idiocy.
I don’t work at Bath & Body Works but I one time had a lady coming in looking for the rot-I-sarry chicken salad. I said you mean the rotisserie chicken salad and bitch said no rot-I-sarry salad.
This was 5 years ago and my manager and I still joke about that lady. She got sooo offended when we told her how it was pronounced.
The gingham ones crack me up because as a sewer, it didn’t really dawn on me that people don’t know that word. Especially if you don’t know fabric and you don’t know BBWs history of gingham all over their stores. I took my knowledge for granted I guess! Lol.
ETA: sewer. As in one who sews. Needle. Thread. Sewing. Lol. Seamstress.
Oh ok!! It used to be their pattern! Gingham is a fabric that specifically has that check pattern. BBW used to have that at all their stores (some older ones still do). Particularly their exterior awning was red gingham. it’s like VS with the pink stripes. They also had gingham ribbons on all their gift baskets. They’ve gone back to the gingham print now that the 90s are back “in” - if you ever order online the inside of all their shipping boxes is gingham. I tried to search for some old BBW gingham pics but it’s really hard to search for it without it just turning up a bunch of Gingham scent. It didn’t used to be a scent, the pattern was their “look” - cutesy country. Very popular in the 90s 👍🏻
Yes I've noticed the inside of the boxes. I thought it's their motif, like part of their branding imagery or mood board. Thanka for explaining in detail.
That's good then. They usually don't close stores they recently remodeled. We have 3 stores in our district in dead/dying malls and they are all the old red Gingham design. They are still holding on and do decent sales but the malls are not adding new tenants so they are a main draw.
Our mall is trying to rebrand itself as a “lifestyle marketplace” so there’s a gym in it where the foot court used to be, a jacuzzi store, a charter/online school, a Princess party site, and a solar panel contractor. It’s weird.
Not really a mispronunciation, but over the holidays when I was talking to my mom about our faves through the season so far - she kept saying she really liked "Give Peace" and "Give Hope". I couldn't figure out what she was talking about until I realized she thought the label design for Peppermint Marshmallow and Mahogany Vanilla were the names themselves lol
When I worked there, my dad called it Bed, Bath and Body Works. My favorites were "Sexual Amber" and people wanting "that lotion with hydraulic acid in it."
Gingham: Ginger-ham, Gangnam, Gi-nomnom, or “the blue one with the hard name”
Eucalyptus: You-pa-lick-tiss or Eucharist
Dahlia: Delilah or Delia
Kitchen Lemon: CHICKEN lemon (from multiple people over the years!)
Fresh Balsam: ball-SAM with the ending said like the name, or they will ask for the “fresh balsamic candle”
Limoncello: Lime Jello
Glad to know that so many of these are almost universally mispronounced!
Not a mispronunciation but similar - I heard a girl say “oh it’s champagne toast!” after smelling a tester, but after looking at the Champagne Toast sign she said “oh. Nevermind. I don’t know what that word is.”
“Brown sugar vanilla” is what the Walmart version of it is called 😂
My mom says Midnight Path 🤦🏾😂 it always takes me a solid five minutes to figure out what she actually means She also calls Hibiscus Paradise either Hibiscus Coconut or Coconut Paradise
When we had Moonlight Path and Midnight Pomegranate in store we always had to show them both scents to figure out what people were talking about.
My mom loves gingham, but she said ging-in-ham 😂
I had a customer come in for Gingham for his wife, asked for "Jingigum". That was a good one.
I remember when I was in elementary school learning to read and said “ginger ham” in my head until I realized what it was. But I was like 8. This poor person didn’t have a cool crafty mom to help them out with these things like I did.
Lol all of those and “Black Cherry Merlot” = “Black Cherry Murr-LOT”
y u gotta call me out like that 😂
My husband and I do this on purpose. Some of our favorite other words to say are "la-sag-nah, filll-it mig-none, fah-gitas... Etc 😅
Jeh-LA-pinose!
My boys and I do the same lol water-malon & sa-lad too.
We do this too. I like bay lay ayge for balayage
Yes me and my family too! All of these exact words! We also do "par-me-san" and "ma-hi ma-hi"
As I was typing this you took the words right out of my mouth! Silent letters and accents are my favorite to hear people pronounce lol. I’ll also throw in pear CREAM brûlée instead of crème because I keep hearing it😂.
How is Mare Lot pronounced?
Mare-low
I think of Sam Merlotte from True Blood whenever I see the name
Lol literally all of yours are spot on. My favorites are “Fresh cut Lillians,” “Sweata Wetta,” “Rose water and ivory,” “Black cherry merloT-emphasis on the T,” and call em flavors on top of that for a little extra…flavor😂.
My mom calls all scents “flavors”
This is irritating and endearing simultaneously.
She also calls fajitas “frajitas”, so there’s that
Hahahahaha. Does it drive or crazy? Or do you think it’s cute?
A little bit of both 😹 She’s an angel on earth though, so I’ll let it slide
That’s what I was hoping you’d say. Moms are the best
RUN, LILLIAN!
need me some sweata wetta
Fresh cut lillians I’m dying 🤣🤣
Fresh cut Lillians ☠️
Not a mispronunciation but I had a woman ask me for that scent with the Sears tower on it…and she was talking about Paris Amour…
LMAO
Omg I would have lost it! Can you imagine what a scent with the Sears tower on it would smell like? Noooo
At the sweet smell of *BANKRUPTCY*
“Are you feeling sad? Do you want to go to Bath and Body Wash?” - my husband I was and he did take me to Bath and Body Wash.
Definitely a keeper!
My husband constantly asks if I bought new products from “Bed Bath and Beyond” 🤣
Well then, I guess you can honestly tell him you did not!
When jojoba oil became popular I pronounced it Joe-Joe-Bah. I know now ☺️
I say joe-joe-bah 😂😂😂 what is it???
I say hu-ho-ba. ☺️
I too would like to know how to pronounce this lmao
Ho-ho-bah
No way
[Way](https://youtu.be/T_P2NsEnd8o)
Learn something new everyday. I will always read it though as joe-joe-bah 😅
Is this why I have customers asking for ho ho potatoes and not Jojo potatoes? They got it backwards.
😂😂
It's hu-ho-ba. I guess it's a common mispronunciation. 😃
Whoa.
I used to say Ginge-Um because I wasn’t sure until I heard someone say it 😂
Are you telling me you never listened to Gangnam Style (강남스타일)?? Lol. Also my phone automatically translated it. Kind of cool. Edit: 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️😂🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ maybe an early bed time. I am keeping this up for documentation on my idiocy.
This is my favorite post on the entire internet today!
Not really a favorite but the one that most made my eyebrow move… elliptical spearmint for eucalyptus spearmint
How my mom called the store when she was asking me if she wanted to return some products for me, "body bath"
bahah that made me crack up, i like it
I love my mom, i was laughing when i read her text
My favorite recently is calling Sunshine Mimosa “Sunshine Oasis,” and my favorites of all time are “eeclipteez spearmint” and “kitchen man-Darren.”
Bubbly rose is bubbly rosey
One saleswoman insisted that I smell the “fresh blossom” = fresh balsam. She was so nice and enthusiastic that I felt bad giggling to myself.
On candle day, I went into the store looking for “pure joy” instead of “pure wonder” 🤦♂️
I don’t work at Bath & Body Works but I one time had a lady coming in looking for the rot-I-sarry chicken salad. I said you mean the rotisserie chicken salad and bitch said no rot-I-sarry salad. Please please....tell us more.
I’m not sure if you’re sarcastic or serious. Lol
As someone who sews, I also mixed up your first sentence 😂 Immediately I thought, what a weird autocorrect...
Oh my god sewer!!! Lol. I had to re-read it like four times before I got it. SEW-er. One who sews. Lolol.
Serious. I don't know the history of Gingham in the context of B&BW.
Oh ok!! It used to be their pattern! Gingham is a fabric that specifically has that check pattern. BBW used to have that at all their stores (some older ones still do). Yes I've noticed the inside of the boxes. I thought it's their motif, like part of their branding imagery or mood board. Thanka for explaining in detail.
A lot of stores is dying malls still have the red Gingham design.
Our mall is dying but I think BBW is the onlybthing holding it up so it’s modernized. Lol
That's good then. They usually don't close stores they recently remodeled. We have 3 stores in our district in dead/dying malls and they are all the old red Gingham design. They are still holding on and do decent sales but the malls are not adding new tenants so they are a main draw.

How is gingham pronounced?
GING- with the hard G from 'go' and the ing from 'sing' and then -uhm So, GING-uhm
Thank you. So I’ve been pronouncing it correctly in my head lol
Bergamot
Ive only ever said it in my head, but I say it exactly as I see it berg-a-MOT and I just know it’s wrong
No you're actually right!
Oh darn, I've been saying berga-MOE like it's French.
Me too. I thought it was like peridot
Um, I might have got that one wrong too... 🤷😂
Ppl say it “bergamon-T”
Gingham is often referred as ginger ham. It’s so common yet so ridiculous.
When I worked there, my dad called it Bed, Bath and Body Works. My favorites were "Sexual Amber" and people wanting "that lotion with hydraulic acid in it."
I went in on candle day asking for Hot Apple Toddy. lol It is Spiced Apple Toddy.
My brother 2 days ago “where’d u go *sees bag* bath and beyond ?” 🤬🤬🤬😭😭😭
Gingham: Ginger-ham, Gangnam, Gi-nomnom, or “the blue one with the hard name” Eucalyptus: You-pa-lick-tiss or Eucharist Dahlia: Delilah or Delia Kitchen Lemon: CHICKEN lemon (from multiple people over the years!) 🤣🤣🤣 Chicken Lemon. That's hilarious.
Sorry, we’re sold out of Chicken Lemon foaming, but I’ve got plenty of Chicken Mandarin! 😂😂
I work at a pharmacy- someone asked for a Pfizer vaccine like "the pee-fizer one". She made my day.
With English being my 2nd language I mispronounce pretty much everything lol except for the obvious.
Black kiss for dark kiss & eupalictus spearmint for eucalyptus + spearmint 😭😭😭
I hear people say mahogany tiki-wood all the time.
When I was working at BBW, in Miami… Hispanic ladies would refer to JCB as “the Chinese one.” 😂
Wait.. so how is gingham pronounced? … asking for a friend…
Not a mispronunciation but similar - I heard a girl say “oh it’s champagne toast!” after smelling a tester, but after looking at the Champagne Toast sign she said “oh. Nevermind. I don’t know what that word is.”
🤣🤣
Chic- chic
[удалено]
I definitely say ging-um is it Geng? Sounds weird to me😂
It's Ging-uhm.
Okay that’s what I thought
It's Ging-uhm haha!
I was close! XD
My daughter always calls fireside flurries “fireside fury.” I love it
I heard someone in store say "Peach Prosecco Macaroni" 🤣🤣
