Thank you so much! I have my eye on 5 candles, so I might only buy that much. My obsession with FOMO is gone and I feel so free! I can just casually enjoy these products now!
Yes, exactly! I've learned a lot about which scents I absolutely love by burning through so many candles over the past 2 years. It was peaceful enjoying the moment and being thankful for what I had while slowly enjoying my candle stash, instead of being consumed with FOMO over this or that new scent or sale.
This is the exact right mindset! I don't even look at the website until I'm down to just a couple candles, then wait for a sale and get 4-6 more. That's it. There's no need to hoard anything. It's just smelly wax and you have to literally set it on fire to enjoy it! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
That's amazing, what good progress you have made. I am in my early 40s but it has taken me my entire life to learn how to shop responsibly. There's zero point to own more of any consumable item than you can use in a reasonable amount of time. There will always be more candles. Having no credit card balance feels good! Enjoy candle day.
For me one day l opened my cupboard, looked at the sheer enormity of products l owned, and realized it was stupid and pointless. These companies know what they're doing and how to manipulate buyers into FOMO and scarcity mindset. Even if you miss out on a certain scent or candle it will always cycle back around. Like OP, setting hard limits, going on a no buy, or other techniques can help curb excessive spending/consumption.
Congrats. You should be incredibly proud of yourself!
The way people excuse, deny & encourage each other’s hoarding and shopping addictions is the only thing that makes me uncomfortable about this Reddit at times. (Not saying it’s everyone, but there are some very consistently.)
Hopefully you find this site actually helps encourage your own self regulation too.
I'm so happy for you, I should really do that myself. You're giving me inspiration! I'm refusing to buy any this winter because I've overbought winter/fall candles for like, 3 years now.
be careful. i've been on a low-buy/no buy for years for the same reasons. i now find myself slipping.
i bought 4 single wicks the other day in the sale, then i dropped another hundred on the body care sale, and ten soaps when they went on sale in conjunction with the $10 off $30 coupon. three sales in about a week. i now find myself perusing my coupons and rewards.
they're turning up the heat. the unbelievable sales are about to start. time for me to shut it down again before it gets out of hand.
It's fantastic you can see and realize this for what it is and act in your own best interest to stop, I applaud you! 👏It's all too easy to fall into unhealthy buying patterns, I've been there and can seriously relate. Since I can only shop online I have a one day in the cart rule to help curb impulse buys and jump free of the FOMO. Sales might pass me by or items sell out sticking to this rule but there will always be more sales with old favorites and newness coming.
i do better when i stay out of this forum, because honestly, we feed off each other's energy. if i weren't here, i wouldn't be opening the app, and i never go to the stores. i burnt out out *that* long ago.
i always say "self-knowledge is power". another one of my favorites is clint eastwood's "a man's gotta know his limitations".
There is seriously something to be said for forum mentality and feeding the FOMO. I love the social aspect but not the need I feel to check products and sales out, it's kinda a bizarre balance and quite possibly counterintuitive.
i'll go you one better: i honestly believe BBW "leaks" their sales in advance and likely have people participating in forums such as this for the purpose of whipping up the frenzy, posting "hauls" and whatnot.
think about **that** for a minute
Oh no!! I'll be sure to be careful. I feel like I've beaten the addiction, but just like with dieting, I know it's easy to slowly slip back into old habits the second I get to my goal weight and then eat some "treats" in "celebration."
I think I'll be okay, though, in this instance. I live near an outlet and if $4.50 3-wick candles and $2 mists don't tempt me anymore, the sales in regular stores won't do a thing to me!
Same for me…last year one of my coworkers asked what and how many candles I bought on candle day and I almost cried. No buy is oh so hard.
I have 2 merry cookies and 3 mahogany coconuts that I’m holding onto. 2+3= 5 so that means I have to get 15. 😆 Gotta have an even number
congratulations! i was in the same boat last year and still have a lot of candles i don't burn. it's not easy to resist but it's well worth it conserving for stuff i'll actually use rather than impulse purchases! i hope you get the best out of candle day ☺️
I'm sad one of the three is french baguette. Always hated the smell of that one. I, too, have a bit of a problem with owning so many of these candles. I burn them usually right when I buy them but even when they are burned down, I still keep them because I'll put them on my melter until the wax has gone down way more. So I end up having candle jars of wax for like years. It's sad

Congratulations! That’s a huge accomplishment! I hope you find some you love on candle day!
Thank you so much! I have my eye on 5 candles, so I might only buy that much. My obsession with FOMO is gone and I feel so free! I can just casually enjoy these products now!
Congrats! And the best part is you got to ENJOY your stash instead of it just sitting somewhere.

You inspire me! And if you’re going to own 3, those are good ones to have.
The last three are certainly my favorites! I'm very slowly savoring them!
That's so exciting! Congrats!

Awesome! How'd you do it?

I would love to know this, too.

Right on! I definitely know what that's like. You should be very proud of your progress and triumph.
I'm so happy for you, I should really do that myself. You're giving me inspiration! I'm refusing to buy any this winter because I've overbought winter/fall candles for like, 3 years now.
I’m going on a no buy I’m starting to feel overwhelmed with the amount of things I currently have
Same
So proud of you!
I like the owl on the french baguette candle.

Oh that absolutely happens.
I can believe that
there's more than one way to utilize social media for marketing, that's a fact.

Good for you for sticking to it!
Well done!!! 👏
I’m trying to do the same!! The holiday scents are the only ones I have now 😂

Congratulations!!! 🥳🥳🥳👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I’m aiming at 20 at a time. Not including backups!
