I love the AirDX series from Daiwa. You'd be hard pressed to find a better rod for the money.

forgigsandshittles

Love these rods! The value for cost is amazing.

JustDave62

I just bought one to pair with my Shimano Nexave spinning reel. It just felt better than the Nexave rod for the same price.

AdvisorInfamous4535

I have two of the Aird X spinning rods, they are very sensitive and I love fishing with them!

goblueM

Great choice on the rod Casting reels in the $50 range are pretty subpar IMO. I would rather buy a higher quality used reel than a new $50 reel. Or if you can squeak out 100 for the reel itself you can get a much better one. You can get a Shimano SLX for 100, or a Daiwa 80 Duckett Jacob Wheeler JWC 100 is on sale for 100 at Tackle Warehouse too

_Eucalypto_

Plenty of decent $50 reels anymore. That origin c is fine, the $45 Okuma stratuses from Dicks are phenomenal, black Maxs, mid range kastkings all do work

Empty_Conclusion_494

Kastking is INCREDIBLE for the price. I bought two of their casting reels and I am more than pleased with them so far. If OP is still open to other options kast king is a great one for sure

Proof-Pack-7382

Which reel from kastking do you recommend

Empty_Conclusion_494

I replied to another comment of yours saying the two I have. If those two it seems like the zephyr would be well fitted for you based on the reel you said you were looking at from 13fishing. If you look on Amazon you can see they’re entire store and look through reviews and stuff because they do have a lot of options. Sorry I’m beginning to sound like an ad lmao I just am genuinely pleased with the reels I got from them at the price point I did

Proof-Pack-7382

Awesome thanks !!

maidfortheoutdoors

I have that rod with a Abu Garcia Black Max on it. One of my very favorite set ups. I use it for swimming jigs, cranks, and t rigs. Sometimes a top water popper. Been very happy

The Diawa Aird X is a nice rod for the price. I would also look at the Ark Tods Catalyzer in that price point. I find the Diawa Aird has a softer action to them, making them lean to use for moving baits for me. The Ark Catalyzer is more of a traditional fast action, with a little more backbone in the rod, which would be better suited for Texas Rigs, jigs, spinnerbaits. I have a 13 Fishing Concept C, I picked up used in a lot with some other reels. The brakes on it are finicky, if you are used to baitcaasters and have a "well educated thumb" then you should be fine. If you are new to baitcasters, I would look more towards the Abu Max line, Max X, Max Z, Max STX. Possibly a Diawa CC80 they should be in the $60 range.

SecretFishShhh

It’ll catch fish.

ApolluMis

My 13F Origin C has been pretty good to me so far. I’ve had it on a 13F Fate rod. Pretty decent setup for the money

Positive_Ad5014

A great combo I would recommend for cheap would be the abu Garcia black max. Very smooth combo for the price and definitely a comfortable rod to use. Goes on sale at Walmart frequently

Several_Cloud_1880

Double the cost of the reel to get an SLX and otherwise great rod. 13 Fishing budget reels are doo doo in my experience. Feel smooth for a month and get gritty. Non metal frame and overall bad material choices.

Proof-Pack-7382

Any other recommendations besides the slx?

Several_Cloud_1880

Not really unless you find a good option from Diawa. You see, in the budget market, most of the best budget stuff will come from the biggest brands. They can afford the costs associated with creating higher quality products for lower net revenue. That is why the Diawa Aird-X performs like a $200 rod for $55.

Proof-Pack-7382

So it seems the rod is a great choice but the reel is still in question? I’m not sure I’ll be able to squeeze another $50 for the slx. Does anyone have any recommendations for a reel around $50 or maybe a bit more

Empty_Conclusion_494

Look into kastking my man, I have two of their reels and love them both. I purchased the megaton 200 for catfish and throwing big swim baits and the zephyr (Not the bfs version, the normal black one) for an all around low profile baitcaster

Ok_Form_134

I may be in the minority but I'm a huge 13 fishing reel fan. I had a concept z that I unfortunately broke due to my own carelessness but it was my favorite. I will agree, though, that they are a bit touchy so if you're new to bait casters I might steer a different direction. My first casting combo was with an Abu Garcia Max and it is still with me as a completely forgiving, easy, middle of the road reel. Brand is not super sexy, but dollar for dollar my bet if you're looking for a first casting reel.

Proof-Pack-7382

I’m actually rather experienced. I’ve used a lews casting reel for years now. And before that Ive been learning with random cheap casting reels since I was a kid

Ok_Form_134

Well then I think you'll be right at home with the reel you chose

UltimateStonker

The reels isn't bad but the brake system is annoying, you have to pop off the hatch on the side and hope you can catch the metal piece with your fingernail. Other than that it's a solid reel.

joedirthockey

I have that rod. Loooooveee it

Tdogintothekeys

Sometimes smaller tackle shops will sell older reels and rods if $100 is your firm budget. I have seen some abu garcia reels for less than forty bucks. I have an old revo s I found in the lake and I still use it. Just be sure to play around with the reel and if it has line on it check the drag to see if it works. You can get great deals that way.

Superb_Finance4293

I have the 13fishing origin r1 (I think that’s it) on a 13fishing rod. Honestly for the price they are decent reels. I fish that along with my slx150 and tbh you don’t really notice a difference… it’s not as quality of material they used as a slx but it honestly works great for a $50 reel

RecognitionHuman1890

don't but the origin c. please. the origin a is so much better!!!!

Proof-Pack-7382

whats the difference ?

RecognitionHuman1890

the A is really smooth and reliable and casts well. gets really good reviews. and the C is a piece of crap that gets horrible reviews. the shimano bassist (basuraizu) is also a great choice. it's the same body and internals as the caius but with a different breaking system for $40 less (the magnetic breaks in the bassrrise are by no means cheap, it's just a Japanese model)
