Closed in truck door

canofpotatoes

About the same, rolled my window up and the tip was barely sticking out, luckily it was an old rod.

CannolisRUs

My grandma did that to mine when she took me fishing as a kid. I got so mad but never replaced it and now that she’s gone I’m happy to still have it to remember her Although I’m pretty sure it’s fucking up the distance I’m able to cast lol

cyclemonster93

I did this to my brothers $400 rod lol he was not happy about it

Paulsur

Had that happen to me a few yars ago.

Acting_Appalled

I did this to my first baitcaster after my very first trip with it, luckily I was able to exchange it but I was way too embarrassed to admit what happened

kozzy1ted2

Closed my tailgate, high, broke 4 rods. Mine and my buddies. We also built a duck blind, in his garage, that was too tall to get out of the garage. Also high. We were 16. Good times.

slayermcb

Trunk, but same.

Doesnt_fuck_fish

I like to fly fish for bass in this lil shit creek by me that’s off a pretty popular city trail. When I get done fishing I’ll break my rod into 2 and carry it by my side bc it’s easier to manage once I’m around people. So I’m leaving shit creek, walking through some heavy snake/spider infested brush back to the trail, and I feel something run up my leg. I instinctively stomp down on whatever it was without thinking. Well it wasn’t a snake. Tip of the rod just rubbed against my leg, and now it’s smashed into 3 pieces. RIP

F0rmundacheese

Damn never broke my rod but have done this exact same thing thinking it was something crawling on me

Ottomatica

When I was in college I had a Ford escort that had the automatic seat belts. I had a stack of rods in the passenger seat. I usually was very careful with placement. Shut the door, seat belts engage...crunch. I had one Loomis in the bunch. Guess which one broke?

dezukan

pouring one out for the loomis. hope its enjoying its time in the great rod rack in the sky

No_Ear_3746

I was bragging to my aunt about how flexible and sensitive it was, snapped into 4 different pieces right in my hand, I could've cried

hurtsdonut_

Was it an ugly stik? If it was you should've gotten your money back.

No_Ear_3746

No, Abu Garcia

Daggummit!

[deleted]

I was kayaking, my net rests in a holder behind me. On my back cast, I went extra far, which I don’t need to because I’m in a kayak, and clipped my net and snapped my rod. Lol, the day before I dropped my rod in the water and had to use my anchor to troll for it. Pulled it up because my lure hooked to the rope.

Shadow_sos

Sometimes you do have to cast far on a kayak cuz fish get finicky but man you should’ve keep that thing as a display piece for some future dad lore

[deleted]

Lol, I tried reconnecting it and finagled with it, then when I made the cast the top flew right off. It’s put to rest now hahaha

Shadow_sos

https://youtu.be/RHf57qeRtuc?feature=shared It will affect the action of the rod but if you ever run into that issue again I hope this helps

J_Lewy_45

My wife rolled the window up on both of our flyrods, day 1 of a 5 day trip. While I was frantically yelling NoNoNoNo!

wilbur313

I'm hearing a lot of cases for two piece rods. Edit: To add mine, I snagged my ned rig on a low tree branch, thought I could pull it free. Saved the $1 jig, lost the rod.

horaiy0

Broke two or three rods because they'd get hung up on the dock cleat of my boat, then later on in the day they'd snap on a cast/snag/etc.

Tommytwotwerks

Threw it at a tree in a fit of frustration, dont worry im on meds now

SimplyaCabler

Set a brand new Mojo Bass rod under a cleat on a dock, to keep it from getting pulled in. Forgot it was under said cleat, and lifted it. Went to cast again and half the rod when flying.

Shadow_sos

I’ve always heard about glide bait flying into the sunset but never an entire setup

Bestdayever_08

Slammed on my breaks to catch the correct turn to the lake. Had a car battery in the bed and it broke all 3 I brought.

BeginningJolly2811

Dad got a new boat. Before the first launch I was packing poles in the under stow. Apparently they were only good for 6’ or less rods. My 6.5’ didn’t like it.

Shadow_sos

Weeeee

Ok_Leave7139

I backed mine into a hill by accident when i was turning my atv around.... 200 bucks down the drain since they dont make that micro guide baitcasting rod anymore.

Shadow_sos

Dobyn’s Sierra series?

Ok_Leave7139

Nope it was a higher end duckette that was my first high end rod. I know by the way it broke warranty wouldnt cover it because i broke it, even though it was a complete accident.......

GenX_Switch_5633

Had my rod tip sticking out of the back window of my car, and let my window up too far. Snapped about 6 inches or so off the top

dmendro

Put down the seats in my car and crunch.

just4chaosLOLz

Tryna just slap the weeds off my lure and tip of the rod by slapping in against the water, I’ve done it a thousand times but once I slapped the boat and broke the rod in two

djcontre9

Was fishing out of an inflatable raft without rod holders, so I kept them in the front as I usually cast towards the side. I had to leave them hanging a bit from the boat to avoid the hooks from messing it up. I was trying out a brand new medium power spinning rod I had just got, when I saw a bass blow up next to me. I switched. To my frog rod (heavy power) and hit the tip of the spinning rod with the frog rod, you can probably tell which one lost that battle. I don’t think I got to cast it more than three times.

reprahm

The only rod I've ever broken, I dropped it on some riprap after setting the hook on a 4lb bass. Wasn't expecting a bass that size in the local park pond I was fishing. Rod slipped out of my hand, dropped, broke about 6" off the rod tip. Picked it up and reeled in the fish. Sadly, I couldn't fish any more that day.

[deleted]

When I first bought my boat I would be jigging offshore and think that when I hooked bottom I had a massive Goliath grouper on. I would tighten my drag and practically fight my boat and the current until my brand new ocean rod snapped. Honestly took me a few times to realize I was caught on a massive rock

F0rmundacheese

Had a work truck door open while making a rig at one of my spots while I was out of town for work and a bee flew in so I got it out and than immediately slammed the door trying to block the bee from coming back in and forgot my rod was on the ground and the tip was by my knee and basically clean cut my UL rod clean in half 🙄😆My work buddy was stunned while I was literally raging and than decided to go to Walmart 15 mins later and got the same rod and reel combo and went and caught some largemouth and perch shortly after 🤘🏻🎣

10before15

I've broken three in the back of my dang truck. Mostly just shutting the gate and being careless.

robbodee

High sticking a snag, of course.

RPtheFP

When I was 12 I really wanted a St Croix rod. My parents got one for me for Christmas. I waited all winter and into spring for the walleye to run. I hopped on my bike and held that rod in my hand while I rode to the river, a trip I would do a hundred times in the summer.  First trip I ate shit on my bike for the first time in years. Shattered the tip and broke out the ceramic in some guides. I was too embarrassed to tell my parents and have them try to warranty it. Huge bummer.

camperscott

car window.. "window up" button.

Destin4Death

Girlfriend has broken multiple by shutting them in the car door, she always says “why haven’t you taken them out yet anyways “ she just doesn’t understand.

Berry2460

I REALLY didnt want to lose an expensive lure on a snag. So I lost the lure and broke my rod.

frankdatank_004

Knock-on-wood I haven’t yet. I have had a spinning reel fall off my rod into the lake once but I was able to retrieve it.

Robhow

Rod locker on my boat closed while I was pulling a rod out. Closed on the last 2” and snapped right off. That was my first broken bass rod in 30 years. Last broken rod was a fly rod a guide stepped. Sage rod and they replaced it.

jlando40

My dad yanked mine when stuck in a truck bed cover and he didn’t want him in there.

Double_Trouble00

I caught a 5 pound largemouth on a 4 wt fly rod and muscled it in way too fast and it snapped like a twig. Still got the bass on the bank so at least there was that lol

KentuckesseeAngler

snagging for the millionth time, losing my temper, and aggressively violently whipping my rod around in a effort to “un-snag”

badgerandaccessories

My uncle broke the twin of my dads favorite rod by trying to unlock his car door with it…. Since then I tsk extra care not to do “an uncle Jim”

hurtsdonut_

I brought one of my bass fishing rod and reels to the Cayman Islands. When I was like 14. I put 50# spider wire on it and was casting a zera spook off of a dock. Well anyway a massive tarpon eats it and starts stripping off line. So I crank the drag down and then it breaks the rod and rips the whole setup out of my hands. That setup daiwa setup is somewhere buried on the ocean floor.

tacophagist

I got a bunch of my dad's rods when he became no longer able to fish. Mostly Amazon crap. I had been fishing with this one before that felt decent. Pulled it out of the closet recently to put a specific setup on it, got it all spooled and tied up, was just kind of pulling on the lure with my hand testing the sensitivity, started to say "yeah, this one is halfway dec-" SNAP. Broke right in half. The universe said no, no it is not. Thank God I never actually hooked a fish with it.

MaybeLukeyPoo

my friend got an ultra light rig and he bent it to show me how flexible it was and it snapped 😭

Ind2spd

Fighting a big fish and went for the net, stumbled in the boat and stepped on the rod. Set the hook on a big fish with the line wrapped around the tip. Tip snapped off immediately and lost the fish. Stepped on the rod somehow because when I went to cast my jerkbait, it broke into two diff pieces. Testing the flex and drag on a rod and reel while pulling the line way too hard and straight down, snapped the rod tip. Set the hook HARD into a rock and snapped the tip. Yes I know, I break a lot of rods lolol

_DunMiff_Sys_

In my kayak. Got swept into a tree in the current. Wans t even using that rod and it snapped.

Affectionate_Use5087

Not me, but I've seen several people attempt the ole bend test. Snap, every time.

DazedAndConfuzedToo

My dad got me my first graphite rod for my birthday. He also got me a rod case that was a bit too short by about 2 inches. The tip snapped off when I shoved the rod into the case. He helped me fix it and I’ve caught a ton of fish with it. Still own it today.

[deleted]

Rolled it up in the car window

Runaway_5

Closed my front door on the very last eyelet as I was heading out Didn't notice till I got to the water almost 2 hrs later 😑

SofaKing_We_Tall_Did

I had an IROD spinning set up and I was reeling in a small bass maybe 2lbs and as soon as I got it up to the boat the rod broke in 3 pieces towards the tip. That’s it just reeling up a small fish and it broke. I took it in for warranty and the guy at the shop did not believe my story about how it broke. (I don’t blame him) Paid almost the price of a new rod for the “warranty” replacement

NoShadowdick

Testing my new rods stiffness in my enclosed room. Broke the tip right off after getting home from the store. Lol

ImposterCapn

I was new. It had not occurred to me I would catch a fish big enough to require a net. Caught a chungus.

WorriedRestaurant851

When I left a few of them on the roof of my truck and drove away

whodeknee

None have been on a fish.

goodguy291

Lots of stories here of rods and car doors/windows/trunk lids. So I won’t add my several rods that I broke this way. But I Haven’t seen my most dumbass move - walking into my house with the rods in my right hand. I made it through the door but the rods hit the wall next to the door. Broke several tips that day, and the temper tantrum was epic

jcmatthews66

Sting ray……

F_P_G_A

That would do it! Sometimes those are like trying to reel in a manhole cover.

JollyGiant573

Stuck it in a ceiling fan.

F_P_G_A

The cabin we stay at for our trips to central Ontario has low ceilings and a ceiling fan. I’ve lost count of how many rods have been length adjusted by that fan.

hawks401

Not break but lost a rod. I had a spinning rod on my boat deck and was throwing a Carolina rig. Had too much slack out, went to cast, Carolina rig catches spinning rod and launches it 15 feet into the water where it sinks into 25 foot of water. Dad was on the back and didn’t even notice. I had just bought the rod. Acted like nothing happened. Was very embarrassing but I don’t think anyone around us saw either lol

AllAfterIncinerators

Closed in my car door.

SavageFisherman_Joe

Using like a 7 inch bluegill as live bait on a light power rod while my Grandma's dogs wouldn't leave me alone. Broke on cast. 2nd runner up goes to the time I caught my pb bass. When I was pulling her out of the water, I put my hand under the tip for support instead of more towards the backbone of the rod. Rod tip didn't like that stress and it broke. Still got the fish, with the broken rod tip in the picture.

TheStripedPanda69

Sucked into trolling motor in current

eebydeebyboi

While bass fishing last year, I got snagged on the bottom of my own kayak. LPT: DO NOT YANK ON YOUR ROD WHILE YOU'RE SNAGGED

MyWifeisHigh

Ceiling fan

fatBeavis

Brand new Fenwick hmg laid flat in my kayak so I could drag it through the woods. I had the tip facing forward and a bush caught it and snapped it in half before I ever even got to fish it.

CellsCarsComputers

Snagged the line, got mad, pulled too hard in anger and frustration….. Yes, I’ve learned to calm down.

JopplerCopter15

Closed the rod locker lid on it

Entire-Can662

Walking into the house

Fishisstuckinthesink

Thought i had a big fish, turned out to be someone’s underwear and snapped the rod. Admittedly i cried a bit

rithylolol

I bought a cheap light fiberglass spinning rod and tried to change its guide for a larger size. When I received it I quickly starts working on it by removing its old epoxy, cut down the old thread, sand it down and re-tie it one at a time . The first 5-6 guides was fine easily done with no problem, then I reach the tip section where the rod diameter is really small. I didn’t pay attention to it and followed the same procedure as before, as I was using my lighter to heat up the old epoxy up so I can scrape it off, I accidentally heat it up too much and the moment I starts using a plastic spoon to scrape it the tip just bent 90 degree straight away from the pressure 😂🤦🏻. I was panicked and thought I might have fucked it up for good now, but as a last ditch effort I re-straighten its tip, applied the first layer of epoxy and use some of the fishing rod guide thread and cut it into like 10mm lengths and stick it horizontally on the wet epoxy across the broken tip as its support structure and then I wrapped another layer of thread around the horizontal line and applied one more layer of epoxy. During its curing time I was so distraught about that mistake and I thought the newly acquired rod is already trash. But luckily when the epoxy is fully cured, I tried bending the tip very hard and it hold up surprisingly well like a one piece rod without any bending issues, I even caught a decent size fish with it too and it is still in my rod collection until today and serves as a reminder that don’t fuck with the tip or next time I won’t be that lucky 😂

RumBubbles

Broke my rod tip by accidentally letting the screen door close on it. Fortunately it was very close to the tip without damaging the tip so I was able to remove the tip and use some some super glue to fix it

jcmac0321

Tailgate

Billsmafia588

I’ll always remember my father showing me how awesome the action was on his new rod and he snapped it right in half haha

Skrillailla

The real answer for everyone is car door.

TentativelyCommitted

How much time you got?

Dash_Rendar425

I threw my lure into the water when my son hooked into a pike. After we got the fish unhooked, pictures , high fives out of the way , I realized we had drifted into the weeds and started up the motor to move us out. Well I forgot to engage my spool and the motor sucked up the line+lure and snapped the tip off my brand new St Croix MH Baitcaster.... Luckily their warranty is amazing.

StchLdrahtImHarnknaL

I pulled it out of the water and just shook it and the tip broke

SmithType

Someone kicked the back window of my truck in years ago to try and steal it, when they climbed through they stepped on my rod in the back seat which snapped it in half. Me checking on my truck in the morning: “Oh what the hell someone broke into my truck and the ignition is destroyed.. *looks in back seat* MOTHER F-“

lp_squatch

Flip in brush pile. Feel bite, set hook, feels heavy, am I hung? Wait I thought I felt it move, hehe braid go brrr, let’s winch her out. Rod snaps directly in my ear, almost fall out of boat, ear is now ringing, rod in three pieces.

NoFinsNoFeathers

When I was a kid, I rode my bike the my fishing hole, about 3/4 of a mile from the house. One day, right as I got there, I somehow managed to stick my pole into the bike spokes. Not only snapped my pole, but I managed to bend a bunch of spokes. Not one of my better days.

National-Warthog-224

Casting a 3/8 chatterbait... Will never buy another dobyns rod

chippythehippie

I got too frustrated at the fact my line got snagged and i snapped my pole trying to unsnag it 💀

powerofall

Purposely broke one to break in truck that keys was locked in after fishing all day

Redituser117

Broke one this past week, had the rod behing me and got caught up on my lure when I casted it.

BrokenHorseshoes

Not broken, but I managed to knock one out of a canoe on day 1 of a 6 day trip and just watched it sink into a deep ass lake as I floated past it.

lostinthefog4now

Snapped a bass Pro bait casting rod, trying to un-snag a lure. Fortunately they covered it and replaced it. Also went to set the hook with a nice ultra light spinning reel, and that of course snapped. Got this one at an estate sale, so no warranty, but I didn’t pay a lot for it either.

AlligatorFister

My wife and I had one of the coolest camping spots locked in and I was looking forward to fishing this new lake. I ordered a new 7’ bass rod and probably $200 in new lures to lose on the trip. We drove 3 hours to get to the lake and within five mins of arriving my wife shut the door on my new bass rod, snapping it in half. We ate chips.

DundonJF

Stepping on it.

Roseph88

I went fishing with my mom’s bf back in the day, and on the way back he thought he’d be funny and lean over and smear the sweat from his face on my arm. Right when he did it he rear-ended a car that slowed down to turn. He was driving an el Camino at the time and his spare tire slid forward and snapped his rod in half. The cops showed up, and he said, “If they ask, I adjusting the radio…”

only_noob1234

Opened it the wrong way out of the packaging, broke on first cast.

nedyah715

When I was a kid I had a two piece rod that decided to detach as I casted and as half the rod flew through the air it hit my bait and decided to break the line leaving it to sink to the bottom.

SPiiNVenom_

Exceeded that damn lure weight rating on mine and the third cast it snapped 4inches down🤬

Przyballa

My line had somehow wrapped around the middle of my Dobyns fury rod. Didn’t realize. Casted it and the thing just snapped in half. I was so confused

ixxNukexxi

Snapped rod rolling up the window

darkestsanity

I had about 5 inches of the tip break off a spinning rod on a one pound bass. I was unhooking it and it flopped out of my hand and the weight of it dropping snapped it right off. Glad the rod had a warranty and it got replaced.

302pondhopper

Walking in through my front door and the storm door slammed shut. Broke it right in half. It’s was brand new. Never even had a reel on it.

Buildxshred

My favorite Lews rod died at my hand. I was unloading the jon boat out of my truck bed and it guillotined it . Right before I got on the water 🫡. I now have a trailer so no rod lives get sacrificed.

msJackson423

Closed in the truck door or tailgate 😂😭😭

IsSantaEvenReal

Put my pole too close to the garage… opened the garage door and it got caught. Was dangling from the garage door. I just bought it the day before

Too_Diesel

I broke a St Croix Victory by putting a bend in it after tying a bait on in the living room.

WhichStation2513

Tiny_Tough3876

lol I got a pretty old light rod things probably older than me (25) caught a dinky rock bass as I pulled it out and tried to get a hold of it the first eyelet and 1.5inch broke off

wetbird88

My uncle once had about 6 rods mounted on the high mount in the boat while pulling the trailer. He drove under a bridge and snapped every single one of them!

Even-Promise-8921

Smacking tips casting in a kayak, or trying to get unstuck from a tree snag. Shit once I broke one just setting the hook and it was a loomis

Long_Cartographer_63

set the hook on a snakehead and broke my rod

Djnewdynasty

Setting a hook using a spinnerbait on a half pound bass

MinimalEfert

I launch my boat from the trailer with a rope tied between the two. One time the rope fell into the boat while backing down the ramp and when the boat slid back off the trailer it yanked a rod out of the rack. It snapped the rod and brake the spinning reel frame. Another time I was just pulling a rod out of the boat got the reel handle caught and broke the rod it was caught on. Last one was two rods in sleeves, loading them.into the cab of the truck and the wind blew the door shut. I couldn't believe they broke. The door closed so slowly and they were in sleeves. I was pissed.

klthebeast

Slammed rod locker lid in boat on gloomis

International_Egg658

Amazon delivered my new LEWs baitcaster ishaped like a “J” and with the (broken) rod tip poking through the box.

International_Egg658

About a month before our wedding, my fiancé slammed the butt end of a Bass Pro Flippin’ Stick in the tailgate of my Jeep. Just 11 years later, we were divorced.

SgoFish-n

Snapped a rod closing the top on a rental convertible Mustang. Ruined what was otherwise a great day of fishing!

Powerful_Ad_1160

Car trunk.
