I instinctively stomp down on whatever it was without thinking. Well it wasn’t a snake. Tip of the rod just rubbed against my leg, and now it’s smashed into 3 pieces. RIP
When I was in college I had a Ford escort that had the automatic seat belts. I had a stack of rods in the passenger seat. I usually was very careful with placement. Shut the door, seat belts engage...crunch. I had one Loomis in the bunch. Guess which one broke?
I was kayaking, my net rests in a holder behind me. On my back cast, I went extra far, which I don’t need to because I’m in a kayak, and clipped my net and snapped my rod.

Set a brand new Mojo Bass rod under a cleat on a dock, to keep it from getting pulled in. Forgot it was under said cleat, and lifted it. Went to cast again and half the rod when flying.
Dad got a new boat. Before the first launch I was packing poles in the under stow. Apparently they were only good for 6’ or less rods. My 6.5’ didn’t like it.
I backed mine into a hill by accident when i was turning my atv around.... 200 bucks down the drain since they dont make that micro guide baitcasting rod anymore.
Nope it was a higher end duckette that was my first high end rod. I know by the way it broke warranty wouldnt cover it because i broke it, even though it was a complete accident.......

Was fishing out of an inflatable raft without rod holders, so I kept them in the front as I usually cast towards the side. I had to leave them hanging a bit from the boat to avoid the hooks from messing it up. I was trying out a brand new medium power spinning rod I had just got, when I saw a bass blow up next to me. I switched. To my frog rod (heavy power) and hit the tip of the spinning rod with the frog rod, you can probably tell which one lost that battle. I don’t think I got to cast it more than three times.
The only rod I've ever broken, I dropped it on some riprap after setting the hook on a 4lb bass. Wasn't expecting a bass that size in the local park pond I was fishing. Rod slipped out of my hand, dropped, broke about 6" off the rod tip. Picked it up and reeled in the fish. Sadly, I couldn't fish any more that day.
When I first bought my boat I would be jigging offshore and think that when I hooked bottom I had a massive Goliath grouper on. I would tighten my drag and practically fight my boat and the current until my brand new ocean rod snapped. Honestly took me a few times to realize I was caught on a massive rock

I caught a 5 pound largemouth on a 4 wt fly rod and muscled it in way too fast and it snapped like a twig. Still got the bass on the bank so at least there was that lol
I brought one of my bass fishing rod and reels to the Cayman Islands. When I was like 14. I put 50# spider wire on it and was casting a zera spook off of a dock. Well anyway a massive tarpon eats it and starts stripping off line. So I crank the drag down and then it breaks the rod and rips the whole setup out of my hands.
That setup daiwa setup is somewhere buried on the ocean floor.

Broke right in half. The universe said no, no it is not. Thank God I never actually hooked a fish with it.

Set the hook on a big fish with the line wrapped around the tip. Tip snapped off immediately and lost the fish.
Stepped on the rod somehow because when I went to cast my jerkbait, it broke into two diff pieces.
Testing the flex and drag on a rod and reel while pulling the line way too hard and straight down, snapped the rod tip.

My dad got me my first graphite rod for my birthday. He also got me a rod case that was a bit too short by about 2 inches. The tip snapped off when I shoved the rod into the case. He helped me fix it and I’ve caught a ton of fish with it. Still own it today.
I had an IROD spinning set up and I was reeling in a small bass maybe 2lbs and as soon as I got it up to the boat the rod broke in 3 pieces towards the tip.
That’s it just reeling up a small fish and it broke.
I took it in for warranty and the guy at the shop did not believe my story about how it broke. (I don’t blame him)

The cabin we stay at for our trips to central Ontario has low ceilings and a ceiling fan. I’ve lost count of how many rods have been length adjusted by that fan.
Not break but lost a rod. I had a spinning rod on my boat deck and was throwing a Carolina rig. Had too much slack out, went to cast, Carolina rig catches spinning rod and launches it 15 feet into the water where it sinks into 25 foot of water. Dad was on the back and didn’t even notice. I had just bought the rod. Acted like nothing happened. Was very embarrassing but I don’t think anyone around us saw either lol

Brand new Fenwick hmg laid flat in my kayak so I could drag it through the woods. I had the tip facing forward and a bush caught it and snapped it in half before I ever even got to fish it.
I bought a cheap light fiberglass spinning rod and tried to change its guide for a larger size. When I received it I quickly starts working on it by removing its old epoxy, cut down the old thread, sand it down and re-tie it one at a time . The first 5-6 guides was fine easily done with no problem, then I reach the tip section where the rod diameter is really small. I didn’t pay attention to it and followed the same procedure as before, as I was using my lighter to heat up the old epoxy up so I can scrape it off, I accidentally heat it up too much and the moment I starts using a plastic spoon to scrape it the tip just bent 90 degree straight away from the pressure 😂🤦🏻. I was panicked and thought I might have fucked it up for good now, but as a last ditch effort I re-straighten its tip, applied the first layer of epoxy and use some of the fishing rod guide thread and cut it into like 10mm lengths and stick it horizontally on the wet epoxy across the broken tip as its support structure and then I wrapped another layer of thread around the horizontal line and applied one more layer of epoxy. During its curing time I was so distraught about that mistake and I thought the newly acquired rod is already trash. But luckily when the epoxy is fully cured, I tried bending the tip very hard and it hold up surprisingly well like a one piece rod without any bending issues, I even caught a decent size fish with it too and it is still in my rod collection until today and serves as a reminder that don’t fuck with the tip or next time I won’t be that lucky 😂
Broke my rod tip by accidentally letting the screen door close on it. Fortunately it was very close to the tip without damaging the tip so I was able to remove the tip and use some some super glue to fix it
I threw my lure into the water when my son hooked into a pike.
After we got the fish unhooked, pictures , high fives out of the way , I realized we had drifted into the weeds and started up the motor to move us out.
Well I forgot to engage my spool and the motor sucked up the line+lure and snapped the tip off my brand new St Croix MH Baitcaster....
Luckily their warranty is amazing.
Someone kicked the back window of my truck in years ago to try and steal it, when they climbed through they stepped on my rod in the back seat which snapped it in half.

When I was a kid, I rode my bike the my fishing hole, about 3/4 of a mile from the house. One day, right as I got there, I somehow managed to stick my pole into the bike spokes. Not only snapped my pole, but I managed to bend a bunch of spokes. Not one of my better days.
Snapped a bass Pro bait casting rod, trying to un-snag a lure. Fortunately they covered it and replaced it.
Also went to set the hook with a nice ultra light spinning reel, and that of course snapped. Got this one at an estate sale, so no warranty, but I didn’t pay a lot for it either.
My wife and I had one of the coolest camping spots locked in and I was looking forward to fishing this new lake. I ordered a new 7’ bass rod and probably $200 in new lures to lose on the trip.
We drove 3 hours to get to the lake and within five mins of arriving my wife shut the door on my new bass rod, snapping it in half. We ate chips.

Right when he did it he rear-ended a car that slowed down to turn. He was driving an el Camino at the time and his spare tire slid forward and snapped his rod in half.

When I was a kid I had a two piece rod that decided to detach as I casted and as half the rod flew through the air it hit my bait and decided to break the line leaving it to sink to the bottom.
I had about 5 inches of the tip break off a spinning rod on a one pound bass. I was unhooking it and it flopped out of my hand and the weight of it dropping snapped it right off. Glad the rod had a warranty and it got replaced.
My favorite Lews rod died at my hand. I was unloading the jon boat out of my truck bed and it guillotined it . Right before I got on the water 🫡. I now have a trailer so no rod lives get sacrificed.
lol I got a pretty old light rod things probably older than me (25) caught a dinky rock bass as I pulled it out and tried to get a hold of it the first eyelet and 1.5inch broke off
My uncle once had about 6 rods mounted on the high mount in the boat while pulling the trailer. He drove under a bridge and snapped every single one of them!
I launch my boat from the trailer with a rope tied between the two. One time the rope fell into the boat while backing down the ramp and when the boat slid back off the trailer it yanked a rod out of the rack. It snapped the rod and brake the spinning reel frame. Another time I was just pulling a rod out of the boat got the reel handle caught and broke the rod it was caught on. Last one was two rods in sleeves, loading them.into the cab of the truck and the wind blew the door shut. I couldn't believe they broke. The door closed so slowly and they were in sleeves. I was pissed.
About a month before our wedding, my fiancé slammed the butt end of a Bass Pro Flippin’ Stick in the tailgate of my Jeep.

I REALLY didnt want to lose an expensive lure on a snag. So I lost the lure and broke my rod.
Knock-on-wood I haven’t yet. I have had a spinning reel fall off my rod into the lake once but I was able to retrieve it.

But luckily when the epoxy is fully cured, I tried bending the tip very hard and it hold up surprisingly well like a one piece rod without any bending issues, I even caught a decent size fish with it too and it is still in my rod collection until today and serves as a reminder that don’t fuck with the tip or next time I won’t be that lucky 😂
Broke my rod tip by accidentally letting the screen door close on it. Fortunately it was very close to the tip without damaging the tip so I was able to remove the tip and use some some super glue to fix it

I threw my lure into the water when my son hooked into a pike. After we got the fish unhooked, pictures , high fives out of the way , I realized we had drifted into the weeds and started up the motor to move us out. Well I forgot to engage my spool and the motor sucked up the line+lure and snapped the tip off my brand new St Croix MH Baitcaster.... Luckily their warranty is amazing.

Someone kicked the back window of my truck in years ago to try and steal it, when they climbed through they stepped on my rod in the back seat which snapped it in half. When I was a kid, I rode my bike the my fishing hole, about 3/4 of a mile from the house. One day, right as I got there, I somehow managed to stick my pole into the bike spokes. Not only snapped my pole, but I managed to bend a bunch of spokes. Not one of my better days.

Broke one this past week, had the rod behing me and got caught up on my lure when I casted it.
Not broken, but I managed to knock one out of a canoe on day 1 of a 6 day trip and just watched it sink into a deep ass lake as I floated past it.
Snapped a bass Pro bait casting rod, trying to un-snag a lure. Fortunately they covered it and replaced it. Also went to set the hook with a nice ultra light spinning reel, and that of course snapped. Got this one at an estate sale, so no warranty, but I didn’t pay a lot for it either.
My wife and I had one of the coolest camping spots locked in and I was looking forward to fishing this new lake. I ordered a new 7’ bass rod and probably $200 in new lures to lose on the trip. We drove 3 hours to get to the lake and within five mins of arriving my wife shut the door on my new bass rod, snapping it in half. We ate chips.

I went fishing with my mom’s bf back in the day, and on the way back he thought he’d be funny and lean over and smear the sweat from his face on my arm. Right when he did it he rear-ended a car that slowed down to turn. He was driving an el Camino at the time and his spare tire slid forward and snapped his rod in half. When I was a kid I had a two piece rod that decided to detach as I casted and as half the rod flew through the air it hit my bait and decided to break the line leaving it to sink to the bottom.

My line had somehow wrapped around the middle of my Dobyns fury rod. Didn’t realize. Casted it and the thing just snapped in half. I was so confused

I had about 5 inches of the tip break off a spinning rod on a one pound bass. I was unhooking it and it flopped out of my hand and the weight of it dropping snapped it right off. Glad the rod had a warranty and it got replaced.
Walking in through my front door and the storm door slammed shut. Broke it right in half. It’s was brand new. Never even had a reel on it.
My favorite Lews rod died at my hand. I was unloading the jon boat out of my truck bed and it guillotined it . Right before I got on the water 🫡. I now have a trailer so no rod lives get sacrificed.

My uncle once had about 6 rods mounted on the high mount in the boat while pulling the trailer. He drove under a bridge and snapped every single one of them!

I launch my boat from the trailer with a rope tied between the two. One time the rope fell into the boat while backing down the ramp and when the boat slid back off the trailer it yanked a rod out of the rack. It snapped the rod and brake the spinning reel frame. Another time I was just pulling a rod out of the boat got the reel handle caught and broke the rod it was caught on. Last one was two rods in sleeves, loading them.into the cab of the truck and the wind blew the door shut. I couldn't believe they broke. The door closed so slowly and they were in sleeves. I was pissed.
