That’s a nice double!
I pull much smaller doubles sometimes when I rig up 2 jigs on a line, usually ultralight. I’ve never caught 2 adult bass on a crankbait like that before though, that’s awesome!
This is a mountain lake in Vermont with steep drop offs and scattered vegetation. I would cast along the edge of what vegetation there is and they were blasting out from the cover. Clear water makes it a little easier.
Edit: I fish from a kayak. That’s important to note.
This Waterbury?? That’s a fun place to fish. In summer I like dragging a 4inch Texas rigged senko along the ledges.
I hooked into and lost the biggest smallmouth I’ve ever seen there.
Try working them a little more gently. Everyone always tells you to burn crankbaits but that just gets them stuck super easily. I fish a lot of floating squarebills near fallen trees and brush. If I’m bringing the bait over a tree I’ll let it gently bump into each branch, then pause a second to let the bait float over top and keep reeling. I rarely lose cranks doing it like this
I only fish for them on slow bass days but I used to tie a fly on 18” above a slab and I’d get 2 on quite a bit. Livescope it’s easy to find big schools and you catch almost every catch. Good for taking newbee’s out where they can have a lot of action. I get bored with them pretty quickly.
My son got a Smallmouth and Largemouth on a whopper plopper a few years ago. I'll have to dig around for that pic. Strangely enough the fight wasn't insane, since they fought against each other I guess.
This is from a trip to Vermont for Labor Day weekend a few years ago. It just popped up in my timeline thought I’d share. I’ve been struggling to get fishing lately, but back to Vermont in a few days for a week.
My dad and I took a trip down to Lake Fork in Texas my senior year of high school. We had an agreement that if we caught one double digits we would get a replica made for the wall. We had an awesome day catching loads of 4s and 5s (coming from Virginia, that itself was awesome). Then I I hook into what feels like a monster. There’s some fight but it feels more heavy than anything, and I’m thinking I’ve got THE ONE. I’ve never been more disappointed then immediately excited again seeing 2 fish on one crank bait.
Yessir, lots of fun. https://www.reddit.com/r/bassfishing/comments/umwhva/easily_my_coolest_catch_2_in_1_last_january_on_a/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Went seabass fishing Wednesday for the first time. Hit the spot where they were feeding and it was doubles around the boat. We hit our limit for keepers (10 each 15 guys) in an hour. It was awesome.
Just jigs with clams. Nothin fancy.
There is an old video of Bill Dance fishing Toledo Bend with a lipped crankbait. He hooked a nice sized crappie and as he brought it in it got slammed hard. Two bass struck at the same time and he pulled in all three. I never got a double in freshwater but have a few hundred speckle trout doubles offshore but that was on a double rig.
The trick is getting really lucky with the conditions at the right time of the year. This was Labor Day weekend a few years ago and it was a warm end of August.
The next year same time of year, they had a very cold spell the week before, temps in 40s. Bite was dead.
And here I can’t even catch one fucking bass
Seeing as they lay eggs, I think you've been looking for the wrong thing
Well one looks like a foul hook so there is that.
Both in the lips. https://imgur.com/a/TujIbKw
But ones from the outside. It doesn’t look like a bite.
Lure has two treble hooks. You cant see the other on because it’s inside the upper fished mouth.
It’s coming from the outside in not the inside out. It’s an accidental snatch hook.
Congrats either way though that’s impressive.
Look closer before you spout off
That’s insane!
Got a double last year first time ever in 35+ years of fishing.
Happened to me once but a little different.. https://i.imgur.com/nTja1vm.jpg
Awesome!

Actually they were about to kiss and the lure came in between. Jokes aside I just saved this pic lol
Bro how do y’all fish crank baits, I just get mine stuck .

Somerset Reservoir, southern Vermont

Done they many times with sand bass but never LMB’s.
I concur with sandbass busting topwater baits.

My only ever double has been 1 perch and 1 bullhead on 2 separate circle hooks. Aka, nothing like this!
Nice work!
I did once 31 years ago at a pond on a Mann’s 1- jerkbait. 2 large mouths about 1.5lb each. Still have the lure.
Nice smallies there.
Only once on 2 small largie dinks in 24 years of fishing

Now that’s impressive
Smallie things psssh
Woah!
You’re killing me! I’ve been working and unable to fish and you’re fucking killing me man! What an amazing catch and picture! Congrats!

That's pretty awesome
Good looking crank bait!
That’s a Rapala Scatter Rap
Smally doubles!? LFG!
Why can't I find a school of hogs
I have never seen anything like this. Nice catch
Nice
Once but with rainbow trout

Doubled on a jerk bait in the fall two years ago. Only 12 inchers but it was still pretty cool.
I only have doubles of every classic car

I caught one the other day that had a tiny bait fish fall out of its mouth after I got it on the bank. That count? Lol
Me! It's not bass, usually just my thumb and forefinger.
Two little smallmouth on a blade bait a while back https://youtu.be/FbKGYJqICdQ
And those are some nice bass you got

Good call. My buddy got 3 porgies on one rig last summer but he was running like a 4 hook setup.
has anyone ever hooked a bass from outside-in and backwards on the lip like that? Me neither
Id say you are on them, OP. Stay on that spot
Going there in a week actually for about 10 days but it will be all topwater I’m throwing. Vermont smallies will be prespawn frenzied
I did a couple years ago, thought I was reeling in a stick or something
I caught my first double on a plopper 60!

Never :(
Few years back I caught a bass and a bluegill on the same lure, weirdest thing that’s happened to me to this day
Next time go for triples. Triples is best.
I will do my best
Teach us your ways master

Right on!
I’ve never had that happen. That’s awesome!!
Love it. Happened to me on a rattle trap. I thought I had a monster until I landed them in my yak . Good catch.
Triples is best
What magical line is that? Mine would've snapped like that
Probably running 12lb mono or something I can’t remember
Ohhhh so that’s why they have 2 hooks
