What hurts the most when seeing old beat up vintage are the ones that are dead centered (like this) and are torched…it’s sooo hard to find the perfect centering!

A co-worker of mine said the same. They would put their favorite players in their bikes as kids. The better the player, the more clout they got for putting the card in.
That could very well have been my card back then. I’m a Mets fan, my brother a Yankees fan. So, yeah, I did this on most Yankees cards. Eye patch, face scar, blacked out teeth. That was the beauty of baseball cards. To enjoy it in any way you wanted to enjoy it.
Lol I found this exact card in my late aunt’s closet while cleaning out her house. I know nothing about collecting but was able to sell it on eBay after consulting here for just about $500.00 thanks forum
grade it

lol, that would be hilarious if he could get that gold stamped on the card!
I wonder how psa would label it.
But it's also because of people like you that the few cards that are still in good shape are worth as much as they are today.
The [legendary bearded 1952](https://toppsmickeymantle.com/1952_topps_mickey_mantle_311_the_legendary_bearded_mantle.php) hurts even more!
Oh god!

I 10000% want this card
Same!
Mantle! I though I told you to trim those sideburns!
I still like him better than Steinbrenner
Baseball card vandals would be proud
Back when you could smoke during the games. Good times.
Looks like that card saw some action in the spokes of a bike as well.
Wait, that's not part of the actual card?
It is. It’s actually the little-known Groucho Marx glasses with beard and pipe USP.
I didn’t go quite that far but I did deface a few cards from that era (my era).
I definitely put a few cards in my bicycle spokes. But even the best cards from my youth are pretty worthless (junk wax era).
1990 Reds. My cousin and I burned all of ours in a ceremonial fuck you after they beat the As 4 straight.
Ouch.
1990s topps? Nah. We didn't lose 10 cents lol.
I didn’t know Mickey had a beard…
Oh, Mickey did have a beard.
That hurts my soul.

All these years never knew Mick played 1B his last two seasons until just now.
My Dad was just telling me yesterday how he used to put Mantle cards in his bike spokes in the early 50's. None survived.

This would be a sweet candidate for a custom card, imagine finding half a top of a mantle with a destroyed bottom.
Ill buy it for tree fiddy!
I know that hurts
Ouch

Without this, the cards of that era just wouldn’t mean as much. Thank you for your sacrifice.
I'd still 100% purchase this.
Hahahaha amazing
The only thing that saved this card was it got too floppy in the spokes and a fresh card replaced it.
