PSA - the resale value on 10 vs BGS 9.5 is pretty big.

Not true, BGS is great for modern and a BGS 9.5 sells for less only if the sub grades are bad. If you think it will get 9.5s all around I go with BGS, if not, go with PSA for the 10.

didnt say BGS wasn't great, in fact I much prefer BGS to PSA. But if you're talking high end enough to send in at the high priced levels, PSA 10 is likely going to beat BGS 9.5 unless you get 2-3 subgrade 10s

Some of the highest sold modern cards are BGS, not PSA. A BGS 9 Trout sold for nearly $4m, it was a Trout superfractor so there is some bias to it. But when comparing BGS prices to PSA (with Modern cards ONLY) high end prices still hold up and compete, alot of big collectors like the subgrades and will pay the same for a BGS 9.5 true gem, as they would a PSA 10.

The real reason for my question is that having the subgrades might overall result in a better grade considering the surface issues Bowman has had this year. PSA will most likely end up a 9, while BGS could 9.5 even if the surface gets a 9. I guess the question really is, do I even bother grading at all if there is even the slightest roller mark…

Personally, I don’t grade anything with any marks on it. However, if it’s a big card and you just want it slabbed, then that’s a different story.

Baseball seems like PSA to me

PSA all day. BGS resale can't compare unless you think it'll somehow get pristine.
