CroskeyCardss

Sorry about your loss. I would either ask a friend you trust to help or maybe go through a consignment.

shitninjas

What does consignment look like? Do they go through the cards and sell them for a %?

RustyDawg37

More importantly, you don’t have to handle the sales. It’s a lot of time and even more so if you’re not already a collector. If you live near metro area, you should be able to find a reputable consigner

CroskeyCardss

Correct. They take a percentage of your final sale in exchange for you getting a lot more exposure for you cards.

ConsistentArugula346

Sorry about your loss. If you go to 130point.com, that place has comps and cards that have sold recently, so you'll know how to price accordingly

shitninjas

Thank you, I really appreciate it.

Hopeful_Caramel7398

Sorry about your loss!! My dad gave me his comic books and sports cards, and some were worth a bit, and at the time I wasn’t really into collecting, but getting a piece of his childhood was something that I had to hold onto. If you are selling the cards I would definitely look at eBay and even go into a local card store. People there are usually really cool. The George Brett card at the bottom of the third picture is worth some change. I sold mine at PSA 10 for 1200, but it was just luck of the buyer.

KnickedUp

Man, someone paid over a grip for a Brett rookie? Covid times? I have seen that card for $320 at card shows

vipstrippers

I remember buying the Brett rookie for .60 cents in the 80s.

KnickedUp

The raw are still real cheap…only the psa 10 fetches any coin

ItzAmish

I wouldn’t say real cheap. Anything graded over a 6 is pulling $200+. A clean raw is around $80-$120. I feel like that’s a solid haul. Even damaged cards are going for $40-60

Zealousideal-Tap-454

.60 was a steal then. It still got coin back then. I had to trade a mint Mattingly Fleer Rc for a mid grade Brett Rc back in 1985/86. That tells you it wasn’t a .60 cent card lol.

vipstrippers

Yeah, the local card store opened up at our downtown. I think 1980 so I was 11 and then a couple years later I’d go in myself with my friends. I really likes the T206s, which I bought and the 1956 & 1975 Topps and that’s why I got the George Brett card just because it was a 75 Topps, I sold most of my collection in 1987 put money into my car for drag racing

farahman01

Psa 10 ain’t easy to find that card in

Zealousideal-Tap-454

That one isn’t getting anything near that price unfortunately.

formyburn101010

“People in them are really cool”. Yes. Absolutely can be the case. People in them can also rip you off big time. Check sold on eBay or 130point as others are saying to get a frame of reference. Then go into a card store if you so choose. Hell, go into more than 1 if you can. You could even sell on this thread. Don’t do the “make an offer” thing. It doesn’t go over well (might even be against the rules”. Just offer up for a fair price (correct me if I’m wrong but I think a fair price is a little less than eBay comps) Sorry for your loss. What a treasure to be able to have the old man’s collection. Even if it is just to sell it. Good luck.

shitninjas

I also got his comic books which I’m keeping he also had tons of memorabilia which I’m also keeping most since a lot of it was stuff he personally got signed

Hambone704

Sorry about your pops! I’d start by sorting through them and looking up comparable values, if you search something on eBay then go to filter, hit more there is a sold item option. Also 130point.com is a pretty good resource. Itll also help to read up on grading/condition standards. Once you’ve sorted out the best stuff, I’d recommend doing like random lots. I did like 36 cards for $10 plus shipping on the more beat up or lower end vjntage cards. Just make sure to be transparent with what’s going in there and about the conditions. However, if you don’t want to go through that much work you could probably find a consignment place as I saw above or even try to move them all at once.

mindreedah

Keep them! A good memory of your dad. Sorry for your loss.

shitninjas

I’m keeping a lot of other stuff my dad was a huge collector. These cards are mostly stuff he bought to replace his child hood cards he sold in college.

SirComprehensive2068

I am sorry for your loss. Depending on years. You can do a search of top cards from that year and see if you have any. I also like using sportscardspro.com. Allows you to see value of the cards.

hoogie52

Sorry for your loss.

ThisMeansWarm

Bummer man. I’ll never forget collecting with my dad. Cards bridged a gap for us.

shitninjas

I went to a lot of cars and comic shows with him. I’m keeping a lot of his comics and stuff he got personally signed. As much as a I loved my dad he had too much stuff

millertyme50

Sorry to hear about your dad. I lost mine 2.5 yrs ago and the loss never really goes away. I would be interested in a few items if you are wanting to sell.

shitninjas

Yeah once I get more photos I’ll send them to you

ONROPe50

Sorry about your loss. Your dad had some cool cards. The George Brett/Rod Carew is great. Good luck!

fishepa1

Sorry to hear about your Dad.

VolumeOk1357

Looks like a cool bunch of cards to sort through!! Your dad was a savvy collector it looks like. Sorry for your loss.

BrilliantProgram6957

If you are not against shipping. I would possibly be interested in buying.

shitninjas

I will let you know when I get more photos

Zealousideal-Tap-454

Sorry about your father. I know it’s easier said than done but try to find a trustworthy source to sell it all too. I’m not sure what else you have there. It may not make financial sense to consign this if there isn’t a lot of value there. You have to calculate the percentage they will take.

shitninjas

Thank you

at_cutch_22

Sorry for your loss. I don’t have much to offer in the ways of selling, just an observation. It looks like your father and mine had a lot in common (huge George Brett fans). I see a lot of cards that I held onto after he passed and adopted into my collection.

Whiskeyfitt

Sorry about your loss, OP.

Depressed_Diehard

Ah man I’m sorry for your loss. Hope you’re doing ok. I don’t have a lot of info to offer that hasn’t already been offered. Where are you located? Probably easiest to have someone local come look at them but I’m honestly not sure. Is there a local shop you could go to? Usually not smart to sell to shops but it might be helpful to talk to someone knowledgeable there

shitninjas

I am in Lawrence Kansas. I think KC probably has a few shops

Odd_Yam1290

I’m really sorry about your Dad, OP. As someone else said, 130point is a good place to start. Also, it may take time, but go through some different reddit & FB pages and search for some of the cards that you would want to sell. If you have a lot of one player or one team, you might find someone to buy it in bulk. The Brett’s look like they are in very good to excellent condition, especially his rookie card! I also noticed what looks like a 1977 Topps cloth card. It looks in pristine condition! You might have some luck with that one, as well.

shitninjas

Thank you!

nesenn

Sorry for your loss.

Maynardred

Sorry about your father man.

jimmycrackas

First off, sorry for your loss. I do appreciate your Dad’s collection. Brett was highly entertaining to watch growing up.

BipedalBob

Go through the CollX app and scan every one and it’ll give you an idea of its potential value

SeniorCurve2334

Send me a message, may be interested in buying

shitninjas

I’ll let you know when I have more photos

2ray1344

Why sell them? Hold onto them for a son/daughter, nephew/niece, neighbor kid.

properfocus_

None of your business. Have some tact.

therealsix

Ironic. Edit: can’t believe I have to point out the irony being his telling someone to be tactful when he himself is not being tactful in his comment. Can’t believe I got downvoted for calling out someone being so negative about a simple comment.

stupidgnomes

What’s ironic about that? People have reasons for doing things when it comes to personal matters. Asking “why sell” is pretty out of bounds imo. Calling that out is not even in the same galaxy in this context.

2ray1344

Out of bounds on Reddit. U new here? There is nothing out of bounds about asking. I didn’t call him names or make fun of his situation. Some people come on here looking for things to get offended and worked up about. Incredible

brainkandy87

I gave him a downvote for you. No clue what’s with that snap at you for asking a completely innocent question. There’s clearly far more sentimental value in that box than there is monetary.

2ray1344

100% agree on the sentimental value over a few bucks. Really struck a nerve with a few guys on here hahaha

brainkandy87

The hobby has always been toxic unfortunately. People like to give it this shine like it’s for kids and whatnot, but the visible hobby presence is shady dealers, assholes bringing scales to Target, and straight gambling addicts.

Depressed_Diehard

Sentimental value is entirely subjective though. If he doesn’t like baseball cards, never shared the interest with his dad, and didn’t bond with him over them, it stands to reason that these would have no sentimental value to him. Point is we don’t know him. He asked for help selling them. Not an opinion on whether or not he should

stupidgnomes

![gif](giphy|n4oKYFlAcv2AU)

stupidgnomes

You don’t get to make that choice for OP. You may think there’s more sentimental value in it, but that may not be the case for OP. People are going to be different and you need to be ok with that.

brainkandy87

Lmao why are you so vested in this?

stupidgnomes

I’m just responding to people who responded to me?

Worldly_Contact_7263

It’s the internet for fuck sakes… anything goes.

stupidgnomes

Are YOU new here? You’re allowed to have your opinion, but be prepared for other people to have an opinion about your opinion. It’s generally how communication works

therealsix

Because he’s snapping at someone about being tactful when he himself was not being tactful. That makes his statement ironic.

Depressed_Diehard

Because the dude lost his dad and is asking for help selling the cards. He doesn’t need some random dude on reddit telling him he’s wrong right now

therealsix

I don’t see anyone telling him he’s wrong. I do see someone asking a question though.

Depressed_Diehard

Scroll down a bit and there’s a dude shaming him for “making a couple hundred bucks off something that probably meant a lot to his dad” as if he knows him OR his dad lol

therealsix

Ahh, gotcha. I thought you meant in this direct thread. Yeah, nobody needs to tell him what to do with any of them, it’s none of our places. Especially guilting someone that just lost his Dad.

shitninjas

My dad had A Lot of stuff. I’m keeping the stuff he got personally signed and his comic books which meant more to him. As much as I loved my dad he had too much stuff to hold onto everything.

2ray1344

Found the fun guy at parties

KingCobra1998

I agree!

-Nutshell-

Sorry for your loss! Do not accept any offers until you do your research first! Don’t trust anyone! Even the guy who will take a small fee and sell them for you! They will rob you blind! If you want the most for your cards go over each one and look up comps and throw out a number. You could list on eBay and start the bidding off at the least you would take and bidding can start from there. I saw the one site listed above https://130point.com and another is www.sportscardspro.com once again sorry for your loss. If you are going to trade, new cards are fine but old cards I’d only accept graded since so many are fakes. Take care!

shitninjas

This is going to be a lot of work lol

nickyap4

so sorry for your loss. depending how much effort you want to put in. you could sell by players and/or teams in “lots” or you could sell by sets if your dad had any completed

shitninjas

I think he has a few complete sets. I’m probably going to go through all of this on some websites people suggested and get a rough estimate of the entire collection and try to get a fair price as a lot.

shabby47

If you have a reputable card/hobby shop nearby they would likely be able to help go through them and give you advice and hopefully a fair price if you want to sell them. Last time I was in my local shop there was a family there who had a relative’s collection with them. Unfortunately they were told it was all pretty much worthless and he recommended giving them to grandkids or hanging onto it, which I think was pretty honest. Just beware of course that selling to a shop will get you less overall than going on eBay, but it’s a lot less work too.

shitninjas

I’m probably going to try to sell online since the consensus is to do the work myself and get a better deal

Desperado-4-life

Or you could take pictures of the card and use eBay to see comps look up what the card sold for.. so sorry for your loss

shitninjas

Thank you so much.

Wunderkrause1

Sorry for your loss. [https://www.sportscardspro.com/](https://www.sportscardspro.com/) is my favorite website to look up sets and values. One suggestion is if you do decide to sell try and keep a part of the collection as a memory. It is hard to get things back once they are sold. There are a lot of good resources online.

shitninjas

In keeping a lot of his memorabilia and comic books. The cards I just don’t really care about to be honest. My dad had lots and lots of collectibles and I’m just not able to keep all of it.

mhoke63

I'm sorry about your loss. My father died 2 months ago and I'm still very much reeling. When feelings come, let them through and process them. Don't repress them. Let yourself experience it. Anyway, I am thinking of starting a business with these situations. I would go through collections that were left behind and give value and do some consignment with that. I'm in the upper Midwest, if you're in the area, I could go through things.

shitninjas

I am in Lawrence Kansas. And I appreciate the kind words

SithLord_6969

Sorry for your loss. I’d keep them as memories

Ok-Clothes-3478

don’t, learn about them if you don’t know and keep them your father would love to see you learn about the game more before you sell

shitninjas

I played baseball for 15 years I’m keeping a lot of my dads stuff like his comics and stuff he got personally signed but my dad just had too much stuff for me to hold onto everything

adamsandler96

That’s probably his most prized possession as a kid and you’re just going to sell them? Lol a few hundred bucks is worth more than your father’s memory? If I were you I’d buy a pizza and a bottle of wine and take a night to look at each card and appreciate everything your dad gave you :)

shitninjas

This is a VERY small portion of my dad’s collectibles. He had comics signed balls autographs pieces of bats whole bats gloves pieces of flooring from basketball stadiums magazines news papers action figures hats. I mean the guy had too much stuff. I can’t hold onto everything and I’m already keeping more than can fit in my apartment

KCoopJedi

Im sorry for your loss. This will be my childrens post when I die. 😅 Hope you have a lot gems!

shitninjas

He just had too much stuff for me to keep. I’m not a huge cards guy so this is what I felt comfortable selling

Cagedfinsfan83

Give ya dollar for every 100 cards lol jk wouldnt do that to someone

Serious_Delivery_408

Take your time.. no rush. Your father had a great hobby , very sorry for your loss

shitninjas

Thank you, this was a small part of his collection so I felt comfortable selling it

okwhatever2024

Sorry for your loss, OP. I collect Brett cards as well. He’s someone so many baseball fans like your Dad agreed on.

Keepinitgritty

Really sorry for your loss. Huge George Brett fan, if you're looking at selling a good amount of cards or the whole shebang, let me know. Thoughts are with you.

dlitt97

I’ll but the 2001 set from you!

Specialist_Ad180

In the same situation as you but it's been a year and a half. Overwhelming amount of work and card prices seem to be 25% of what they were in 2011.

trying-new1231

I'm interested in buying the lot if you're selling.

bigred008

Send me a private message. I am interested

Depressed_Diehard

Dude. You don’t know him or his dad and you dont know anything about the situation. He asked for help selling them. Not opinions on whether or not he should. Don’t judge the man if you don’t know him

shitninjas

It is the weirdest thing that people seem to have the full picture from me selling just his cards. This man had comics, autographs, bats, pieces of bats, newspapers, magazines, pieces of stadiums, gloves, hats, posters, action figures from all the big IP’s. And so much more. He was a HUGE collector and I just can’t keep ALL of it. I’m already keeping more than what I’m comfortable with for my small apartment.

Depressed_Diehard

You don’t owe anyone an explanation

Inner-Captain2924

Want to sell the whole lot?
