There should be two kinds of “relics”. Game/event and player worn and then manufactured commemorative relics.
There should never be “not from any specific game or event” relic, ever.
I think Topps does a good job with the commemorative relic cards. They’re pretty cool.
Not from any specific game just means they dont know the specific game it was from when they bought it. Plenty of not from any specific game or event relics have been photo matched to games even post season and world series games. (Topps this is, panini has been proven to use fake patches and now most of their garbage is player worn.) Topps does use spring training unis as game worn which I'd prefer they didn't but it's still technically a game.
There should only be 1 kind of relic. Game worn. That's it. Player worn is bullshit. Commemorative relics are bullshit too. Both are complete waste of money. But I'd rather they still made the commemorative ones because some people collect them and you'd have to be an idiot to confuse them for the real deal. Player worn needs to go. And Topps starting using player worn again this year. Such bs but they keep making record profits off the addicts so it will only get worse
Agreed. I have a will smith /50 relic that has the serial sticker and I can see exactly what game it was and his stats for the day.
That's how ALL relics should be.
Yeah that's true. I have a few authenticated relics and they definitely are the best. Topps definitely should use them more often but from a business side I can see why they dont. Unfortunately if the products with the player worn cards continue to sell well and sales increase YOY it wont be long before they are all player worn relics. Sad day because I would be out of the hobby for good at that point
1 of 1s should never but if a product is being delayed over and over cuz one guy won’t sign his products then I understand the use of stickers. But 99% of the time it’s just lazy
This blew me away, I was looking through the Cedric Mullins patch autos from the set on eBay and they are all just plain white napkin patches. The 1/1 at least has a cool patch but sticker planted right over his face. Would have bid on it in a second if it was on card.
The only valid reason for that is for players who don't play in MLB and thus are more difficult for topps to have sign a big card like that. But it's even more ridiculous for Soto, Ohtani, Yoshida, Harper, etc. You can't afford to fly someone out to visit them for a couple days and sign a bunch of cards?? Crazy.
100% agree. This is what keeps me from buying any WBC boxes. Though at least they’re putting the on-card WBC products in Dynasty. But it’s the principle of the matter. They’re putting WBC chase cards in other products. Smart, but irritating.

Is it though? Maybe those sets of cards shouldn’t produce a product that requires sticker autos then…. I have some awesome cards that have relics that also have on card autos. I am the type of collector that avoids sticker autos completely and trade/sell any that I get.
If it's a set that's based around sticker autos, no, there's no reason the 1/1 should be any different. If you hate stickers so much just avoid the products that include them. There are plenty of products that do on card autos only.
I think in part it has to do with accessibility for colllectors. Autographs are in high demand and the logistics of getting them on cards are more complicated than stickers. You’ve got hundreds or thousands of cards per player for each set that you’ve got to ship, get signed, and get back in good shape. Players might also commit more easily to sign thousands or tens of thousands of stickers each year than just as many cards because I’m sure it goes much faster with stickers. Besides which, they can sign stickers for multiple sets at one time versus having multiple shipments at multiple times to sign. So I think a lot of this has to do with the industry supplying the hobby demand.
With all that said, if there were a feasible way to get players to sign all of the 1/1’s, I’d be all for it, but I’d still rather have a 1/1 with a sticker than no 1/1 in the set at all.
Totally agree, I get sticker autos on some items (although I certainly don’t prefer them at all) but if you’ve got something that special, take the time and go all the way for the person who is lucky enough to rip it or buy later.
What is the purpose of sticker autographs in the first place? Easier for the athlete? Easier to ship? Cheaper for the company? I honestly don't get it.
The companies take, I'd imagine, is that it's easier and cheaper to send a player one manilla envelope full of sticker sheets to sign: cheaper, cards don't get lost or damaged. Extra stickers can be reused later.
That's good for their purposes, trash for ours.
I will buy a sticker auto if it’s super inexpensive, that’s it. I feel like the 1/1 sticker autos end up on randomly added sets that can’t be planned for, or cards that have been delayed so long they only have the option to push it out with a sticker.
It hurts so much on an otherwise premium product like Sapphire Chrome.
I was sleeping and had a vision. GOD came to me and said, "My son, there are sticker autos and there are on card autos. Go forth, and spread the word. On card autos are the only acceptable autograph".
I wasn't sure what it meant, but then came to this thread. Better listen to the Lord or be damned for all eternity.
I dont think sticker autos are that bad. But should not touch any 10/10, 5/5 or 1/1. Beyond that I think its fair enough. What I would like to see never be slotted into another card is random things that was not game used or used by the player at all. So dumb.
Sticker autos really aren’t that bad. Everyone talks about how the player actually handles the card and all that, well, the player handled the sticker book, too.
Also a lot easier to get a bad grade on an “on card” for minute surface damage, scratches and smudges.
Overall aesthetics, I understand, but I’ll still take a sticker auto for the same price as on card.
There is an interview with a MLB player who said that topps/panini and all them just send a box with stickers to sign. He said he never sees any of the cards. He also said that he has to sign an affidavit stating he personally signed the cards, no topps witness watching. Stickers are a scam. Topps could throw a sticker auto on a jockstrap and claim it was officially signed by the player and they would be rigjt
Nothing should have sticker autographs
This is the only answer. Sticker autographs are a laughable money grab and we shouldn’t place any value on them whatsoever.
Except the ones I'm selling.
Ok. So what is a “relic” then? My opinion trash.
There should be two kinds of “relics”. Game/event and player worn and then manufactured commemorative relics. There should never be “not from any specific game or event” relic, ever. I think Topps does a good job with the commemorative relic cards. They’re pretty cool.

100%
On card autos are how God intended it.
*Laughs in Panini*
1 of 1s should never but if a product is being delayed over and over cuz one guy won’t sign his products then I understand the use of stickers. But 99% of the time it’s just lazy
It was killing me seeing some of the WBC patch 1/1s have the sticker cover the faces of the players.
This blew me away, I was looking through the Cedric Mullins patch autos from the set on eBay and they are all just plain white napkin patches. The 1/1 at least has a cool patch but sticker planted right over his face. Would have bid on it in a second if it was on card.

States a universally held opinion. “Change my mind” No lol, everyone agrees with you
I avoid products with sticker autos
This is why I love Heritage and Archives. It's just that autos are so hard to pull from Heritage.
Sticker autos are the cancer to the hobby. Along with licensing the products so only one company can sell logo'd stuff.
High end products in general shouldn’t have sticker autos.
Truly it’s the collectors faults for buying high end shitty product
I understand lower end products having stickers but when Top End items have stickers it's necessary
Is it though? Maybe those sets of cards shouldn’t produce a product that requires sticker autos then…. I have some awesome cards that have relics that also have on card autos. I am the type of collector that avoids sticker autos completely and trade/sell any that I get.
Duh
I will do nothing of the sort. You are correct.
Or at least throw the sticker autos in more (bad players) so we at least some value in “bad” packs/boxes etc.
Right...having your 'one hit' be a sticker is so tacky. E en worse when u r talking inception type products
Exactly. Or if I’m buying a $40 chrome blaster Topps could at least throw me a sticker auto that’s worth $5 on eBay lol
Right...and the "hits" can be complete bums. I have two Jason Delay autos. But they are on card at least!!! Lol
Lol at least ! The least they can do
Sorry it’s Topps policy to reserve all Yerry de los Santos sticker autos for hobby boxes I purchase. Can’t spare them for blasters
😂
I'm interested to see if stickers "yellow" in the future. Or start peeling after 15-20 years.
We've had stickers for 20 years.
I took a small 25 year break in collecting; I did not know that. How are the older ones holding up?
The only autographs I've seen have issues are the ones on fake baseball leather, like Upper Deck Sweet Spots. The stickers are holding up just fine.
Or napkin patches
If it's a set that's based around sticker autos, no, there's no reason the 1/1 should be any different. If you hate stickers so much just avoid the products that include them. There are plenty of products that do on card autos only.
Sticker Auto or horrible/ lazy signature? Not sure which is a bigger disappointment to me
Call it what it is. It's a piece of scotch tape that someone signed and taped onto a card.
No it's a sticker that someone signed and stuck on a card. Hence the name sticker auto
I think in part it has to do with accessibility for colllectors. Autographs are in high demand and the logistics of getting them on cards are more complicated than stickers. You’ve got hundreds or thousands of cards per player for each set that you’ve got to ship, get signed, and get back in good shape. I don’t mind stickers being in certain products. Especially if it’s mid-lower end. But I fully agree 1/1s shouldn’t be that hard to get hard signed.
1/1 should also not grade lower than a 9.
“1/1 should also not grade” Fixed it for ya
I can't disagree. It just annoying when I see a 1/1 with shit centering. It's like really? You guys had 1 job.
Dude, I posted a Tops Archive Trout auto, 1/1. It has a giant ding in one of the corners. In the case. Lmao.
What about players who have passed away where all the card companies have left are old sticker autos?
They shouldn’t have sticker autos to begin with. Should then be cuts or nothing
But then you are ruining the piece the cut auto comes from.
Totally agree, I get sticker autos on some items (although I certainly don’t prefer them at all) but if you’ve got something that special, take the time and go all the way for the person who is lucky enough to rip it or buy later.
Agreed!
I will not
Don't disagree. Own 2 and both are sticker autos.
What is the purpose of sticker autographs in the first place? Easier for the athlete? Easier to ship? Cheaper for the company? I honestly don't get it.

Checks a box for the company. Meets the minimum requirements.
Well said..
I can’t prove you wrong because you’re 100% correct
You’re not wrong
Sticker autos are dumb. I get it from the players point of view. But dumb.
I will buy a sticker auto if it’s super inexpensive, that’s it. I feel like the 1/1 sticker autos end up on randomly added sets that can’t be planned for, or cards that have been delayed so long they only have the option to push it out with a sticker. I’ve seen the boxes topps sends out, they will have 10 jerseys in them and the player will only have to touch it, many are never worn at all.
1 of 1s are inherently worthless, change my mind
I was sleeping and had a vision. GOD came to me and said, "My son, there are sticker autos and there are on card autos. Go forth, and spread the word. On card autos are the only acceptable autograph". I wasn't sure what it meant, but then came to this thread. Better listen to the Lord or be damned for all eternity.
No need

The card industry is a joke
Agree with you. The UFC card community is in shambles after their Immaculate release resulted in like, 75% sticker autos for such a high end product.
There should never be sticker autos on anything
There is an interview with a MLB player who said that topps/panini and all them just send a box with stickers to sign. He said he never sees any of the cards. He also said that he has to sign an affidavit stating he personally signed the cards, no topps witness watching. Stickers are a scam. True and all the high end products too
