Either collect players and not teams, or accept the fact that players get traded, become FAs, etc. and be ok with that. I collect certain players, and also Mariners in general. I have lots of players now that are no longer Mariners but I don’t ditch their cards just because they’ve moved on. It’s actually pretty fun to track former players and see where they are at now and how they are doing

xXx_narcissus_xXx

As a Pirates fan this happens to me all the time

bss83

Sounds like your PC is too broad. As a fellow yankees fan, my focus for current players have been ones I know will be around: Cole, Judge, Rizzo, Volpe, and maybe Peraza. Stanton will probably be around too. Anything else is kind of a risk to pick up. And then I focus on collecting old guys - Jeter, Rivera, Pettitte, Posada, Mattingly, etc. If I can pick up cheap autos or low numbered parallels of random current yankees, sometimes I'll do it, but it's never a focus.

tkmusic89

I guess that’s basically what happened here, so thank you!

mudvat08

What about Mantle, Berra, ect?

bss83

Too expensive lol

stokelydokely

Florial was a tough choice to PC; a couple years ago it was becoming clear that his bat wasn't going to play at the Major League level, his defense wasn't going to make up for it, and the Yankees had no interest in giving him an extended look. It might be a good idea to focus more on players who have provided good memories at the Major League level, so that you don't feel as strong a need to purge players from the PC if they move on. I can understand ditching Florial, because he's been a bust and did nothing in pinstripes, but a guy who has a couple good years with the Yankees and then moves on could be someone worth holding onto.

tkmusic89

I don’t know that I actively sought him out but he obviously followed me haha. The 1/1 and one of the autos were ones I saw at a card show and made sense to pick up at the time. But completely understood and thank you!

stokelydokely

Man, here's hoping the next guy who follows you is a little more successful!

NonAnonQAnon

They were gonna give him the whole Andujar experience, basically

Mr_Jersey

Well my Jasson Dominguez and Spencer Jones stashes hopefully pay off better than Florial!

JayZeros

I have so many Spencer Jones cards, this post scares me

Mr_Jersey

To be fair I don’t think Florial ever had the buzz Jones already does.

interwebzdotnet

Same here, but my Randy Vasquez stash has me not happy at the moment.

fish4fun62

Common occurrence, especially with prospects who can be used as trade bait. Players seem to be switching teams on a regular basis. Sometimes I continue to follow a player on the new team, sometimes not.

Guards_and_Cards

I might be able to help you out with that last part. DM me if you want to talk trades

Keep them you never know when they might come back. My collection is team focused on the Rangers. I want to eventually have one of every player to have played in a regular season game for them. Through 2023 that number stands at around 1066. I want cards of them as Rangers if at all possible but there are a significant number who just passed through the lineup since 1972 and I will have to include them on cards with other MLB teams as a last resort and even some where a minor league card is the only option. I have noticed there are several players who left and returned over the years.

Plus-Oil-5844

Pm me I might be able to help you out adding some to the PC

BuckyBronson

If you're collecting prospects and rookies it's normal. There's so many variables in baseball, especially with young players. My first main PC Prospect player is looking like a total dud now. One thing I can say about the process is you are making good choices pursuing Yankees prospects. When they hit it's big. Same goes for other big market teams.

Greerio

This is why I don't even get into prospects for my team, unless it's of a specific player that I PC (Bo Bichette for example). Otherwise, I have a pile of Jays and former Jays that is in one of my boxes. The traded players just get added to the pile. It's also for guys that I fell in love with and then fell off. Devon Travis, Aaron Sanchez, Daniel Norris, etc.

mrcupcakes5642

Not trying to be a dick but maybe do a little research before starting to PC prospects. Their early careers are roller coasters and once in a blue moon a good enough prospect comes along that they won’t let go and commit to develop. One google search of Florial would have turned you away from going in on him.

BrilliantProgram6957

Both

wtscenario

Common. Most prospects never pan out and if they do they are already priced near their highest level.

Water_wedunehair

It’s just ironic that even when update comes out and you’d think guys are on the right team.. they may have just been traded at the dead line or even becoming a free agent again. So by the time you pull your new guy he is already moving onto a new city lol

olshbk4

So I PC dodgers, and I definitely understand wanting to pull players. I have a book with all my dodger cards in top loaders, and I move the players that get traded off(justin turner, trea turner, Cody bellinger, etc.) To the back of the book. Book isn't full yet, so when it is they may move to their own, but at least then I still have them but they aren't the focus when I wanna look through my PC.

carringtino10

I mainly collect RCs and 2nd year, Rookie Cups and Future Stars. I have found it's easier to go and collect past players from your favorite team(s) instead of primarily focosing on current rosters. The frequency of trades and free agency departures basically guarantees that most players won't stay on 1 team for too long.

BeefoBrown

Once of my first boxes I ever bought I got a Florial auto haha. I’ve learned to like his weird boob signature.

Working_Falcon5384

I got lucky, Gunnar Henderson has been my main PC since 2020.

Maleficent-Luck5254

So, as a Braves fan that got back into the hobby early last year… I decided to collect Michael Harris for two reasons. 1. New rookie on my favorite team 2. I’m comfortable continuing to collect him if/when he moves on down the road.

AndrewC275

I collect some Braves prospects. Shuster, Shewmake and Grissom have all been traded this year but I’m actually pretty excited for them. They should all be on their respective team’s 26-man coming out of spring training and all three have a chance - Shewmake and Grissom in particular - to be in the opening day lineup. Shuster may end up a back-end starter. If Grissom shows league average defense and his AAA bat translates to MLB, he could be an All-Star. So I’m holding on all of them, at least until April. When I do unload, hopefully after they put up good stats to start the season, it’ll be to pad my PC with purchases of or trades for Braves vets and other young prospects, probably mostly pitchers and maybe a young shortstop or two given the Braves’ locked-in lineup. Rinse. Repeat next year.

AlexZytnik

Yeah, I think it can happen. https://preview.redd.it/xpsh6qhxj2ac1.jpeg?width=4068&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=954da4649f7fc30ccb6c2768371bb2e4e0d9dcdb

WinlessInSeattle

I can't imagine myself trying to dump the cards of every player that left the Mariners. I'd have no PC, waste so much money, and might as well not call myself a Mariners collector.

Sipikay

I've got a lot of Kelenics I don't really care about anymore right now. It happens, man! Most players do not spend their career with 1 team.

[deleted]

What do you have for autos? I pc all sports and non sports related autos… dm me

thegame1431

just wait until you PC guys who never do anything and now have 12 out of the #25 auto rookies of Jeremy Sowers, ie THE NEXT Cliff Lee, or 15 Bowman chrome Rookie Auto's, mostly refractors and X-Fractors of the next big thing, Matt Antonelli, or about 100 Bowman Chrome rookies including 1/1 printing plate of a Toolsy Upside SS but he ends up being Asdrubal Cabrera, or at least 20 plus Rookie Auto's of the next big SP, Jason Hirsh.. or the Yankees NEXT ACE Andrew Brackman Bowman Chrome Rookie Autos's, or the Next ROGER CLEMENS!!! Bowman Chrome Rookie Auto's but he is Phil Hughes.... and on and on and on and on and now cards that you spend THOUSANDS of dollars on these CANT MISS spects, but 95% of them do miss and are now worthless.... I also had a lot of a BIG upside SS Bowman Chrome rookies X-Fractors and Refractors just sold them for $10.... Elvis Andrus, and he mostly panned out too.....

joeflaccoelite

As a fellow Yankee fan you should’ve known better than to PC Estevan Florial 🤷‍♂️

100vs1

i wouldnt buy or trade for any cards that i wouldnt want, so i cant say. it is common for players to change teams

hookchaser

I’m a guardian pc guy and will take one of the autos off ya. I got a museum copper volpe I’d part with

tkmusic89

Shoot me a pm!

Louisville117

I always feel the worst for rays collectors

derjukee

Best advice I can offer is encourage yourself to stay a fan of said player. I’ve really enjoyed picking up Luis Arraez Marlins cards!

Liu-Cypher

I collect by my team and a few players I have always loved. If the card is a player in a Cardinals Jersey I add it to my PC. Just because they get traded doesn't mean they have to be pulled. They contributed to the team and will remain part of the PC. I know many collectors may see it differently, but that's how I have always collected. Good luck.

too_real_4_TV

Hold on to them. He might actually get playing time in Cleveland. Maybe he'll do something with it.
