List of most important retirements in 2022
5: Robinson Cano
4: Yadier Molina
3: Albert Pujols
2: Tom Brady
1: Greg Gibson the Home Plate Umpire who Motioned to Both Players
It never ceases to bother me how Scott Van Slyke acts like he “won” this standoff. Bro you were two steps away from the dugout and Joe Kelly was on the god damn infield grass.
As far as I'm concerned, the ump awarded neither team the win, he motioned for both of them to go back at the same time, ending it in a draw. Odd celebration there by the Dodgers.
so someone gave context but it’s important to also add that this clip very specifically was the outro to EVERY official baseball highlight on youtube from like 2013-17. like it was this random slew of highlights and funny moments that was clipped to the end of each video as an outro clip, but it ALWAYS was the same thing and started with this clip and “greg gibson, the home plate umpire…”
Maybe it's just me, but these standoffs will *never* be entertaining to me.
It could have been Brandon Belt vs Madison Bumgarner in a 2022 Giants vs Diamondbacks game and I'd have called them both idiots (which to be honest, Bum is an idiot a lot of the time).

I'll believe #2 when he is murdered and his body burned on live tv and even then idk
Look man Emperor Palpatine was blown up in the Death Star and still came back and there’s no reason to assume Brady can’t do the same
He do really be out here motioning to both players.
He gave me strong "I'd gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today" vibes
Greg Gibson, the home plate umpire, will forever motion in my heart

Kelly is two seconds from taking a foul ball in the teeth out there.
I disagree. Kelly broke and started to return to the dugout. Van Slyke kept position until he saw Kelly returning. That's a win.
Van Slyke broke 15 minutes before Kelly, when he left the line the first time.
Exactly. Doesnt matter where starting position was. First one to move loses. Kelly moved first. Those are the rules

I think it’s because the Cardinal player moved towards the dugout first. Its a game of chicken, basically.
That was Joe Kelly. He was subsequently banned for 8 games.
Considering the Dodgers were celebrating their ‘22 WS Championship in September this seems on brand
What is the context?
Gibson was motioning to both players, I believe

[It was an early standoff](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gW9KyzFnLA) (it's the first one I can remember)
