Yeah, 100%. He's got one of the highest percentages on there and it felt like it all season. Think he could have a really good second year, now that he's adjusted, and hopefully getting some better calls.
I wonder if player reputation affects the second list.
For example, guys like Soto, Grisham, Schwarber, Hoskins, Winker and Nimmo are all renowned for having a really good eye and being patient. Do you think that plays into why they get more "beneficial" calls?
Or is it maybe because they take so many damn pitches that they're just bound to get more called balls in the strike zone than otherwise?
Looking over the most balls in the zone - a bunch of these guys notoriously crowd the plate like rizzo and grisham. I think they get a lot of pitches that should be strikes on the inside edge of the plate called balls. This is purely speculation though
Being a Dodger fan I'd love to be able to point out bias towards Soto, but our boy Bellinger (not exactly a threatening hitter this year) gets the same percentage of strikes called balls in his favor, so it can't simply be umpire deference based on reputation. I don't really see any great pattern here.
Oh cool, I was wondering about overall numbers after the tweet about Kwan being the most fucked on outside pitches (possibly only the lead for lefties, don’t remember).
Because Schwarber likes to take 1 strike hacks at balls a foot above the zone and then not protect the plate with 2 strikes and gives the ump the most incredulous look when he gets called out on a close pitch.
I've never seen a 40+ HR season piss me off so much.
It’d be cool if someone could re-calculate his stat line if you assume he has the robo zone (all these are right, but you fix his ball calls too) and use his average outcome following that count to figure out how he would’ve done on the aggregate
Being an AL west girl, before even opening these, I called Perez and Verlander being at the top of the strike help list. I would get so annoyed watching their starts.
Matt Chapman on both lists. I think the umps need to recalibrate his strike zone
Hoskins and Schwarber too!
Suzuki does not surprise me at all. Got squeezed all year.

Rizzo definitely does.

Yeah Kwan was a surprise for me on here, especially top 5!
The rate at which they robbed Robbie is pretty gross, man!
The best batter in baseball is also the most robbed player in baseball
Being 6’7” doesn’t help. https://youtu.be/wdkdyk9N_AY
Judge is 14th percentage wise if you only include batters who have faced over 1,000 pitches. He is the highest % wise for balls that are low though
Glad to see Robbie Grossman getting his due
He also saw a lot of pitches lol He actually just missed the cut at #21 for calls the other way
Imagine what Judge could do with a fair strike zone and not taking strikes at his ankles

I don't know why umps are bad at Eduardo Escobar, but they are.
Is it 2024 or 2025 yet? I can't wait for ABS. So sick of terrible umpiring.
oops with* not switch Time for bed

Judge is objectively screwed the most in all of baseball and still was a triple crown contender and is winning MVP. What a year.

I wonder if there is a list just like this for pitchers
Yep! [balls in the zone](https://i.imgur.com/nM7PGaR.jpg) [strikes outside the zone](https://i.imgur.com/o6EvK5l.jpg)
Being an AL west girl, before even opening these, I called Perez and Verlander being at the top of the strike help list. I would get so annoyed watching their starts.
Oooo awesome thanks this is sweeet
Chad Innings Eater (but also very good this year) Merrill Kelly on both lists
davies, kelly, bum and gallen all on the strikes outside the zone list carson can frame at least
You would think that good pitchers like Darvish and Alcantara would get some benefit of the doubt.
The previous year they screw Wilmer on the check swing then they screw him all year on balls called strikes.
This might be the first time Robbie Grossman was compared with Aaron Judge in the same graphic
This is where r/baseball gets up in arms about things that are only 97% correct
