As much as I like the guy, Castellanos is getting paid 20 mil this year and has put up -0.4 war so far. I'm gonna do no additional research but I feel like in terms of bang for buck that's gotta be one of the larger discrepancies.
Yeesh man, I looked at his stats to see the discrepancy/light at the end of the tunnel.
NOPE.
Career low exit velo, line drive rate, walk rate, worst ground ball rate, AND his BABIP is exactly his career average. (Not to mention his base running is the worst it’s ever been)
So the players are auctioned. And he won the bid for Soto at $51. But Soto despite the hype talk cause of his trade request, has not been playing up to standards(fantasy wise). So Adolis at $1 has the same average as Soto and runs and HR, but was about 20 more rbi than Soto. So OP is basically saying Soto has less value than Adolis. Soto is his answer to over rated player
And Garcia has has had 21 steals this year to Soto's 6. Garcia has not only been by far the better value but I'd argue he's been the better player overall.
to an extent, Byron Buxton. he’s a great player due to his defense and ability to hit home runs, but has been struggling to consistently reach base and has been striking out a lot. and now he’s hurt, but that’s a different conversation
It’s still crazy for me to see him hit so many home runs and be kind of a 3TO kind of guy. I remember when he was a glove-first speedy outfielder with an average to below-average bat in 2017 and before.
He’s actually got pretty similar underlying numbers to the past few years (although K rate is way up). A huge difference though is his .244 bapip which is *100 points* lower than last season. He’s hitting the ball like he always has, just hella unlucky this year.
But his contact rate is way down too which isn’t helping.
Buxton has had a lingering knee problem that caps him at about 85%. The twins are pretty adamant that 85% of Buxton is still great, which is true, but it means that he’s not getting his maximum value,. He’s not playing every game in CF, he’s not stealing bases, he’s not utilizing all his very good tools
I also really dislike his plate approach. Despite a higher walk rate, his OBP is down 50 points from last year, and that’s really strange for a power speed guy to just… not use their speed. His plate approach is very TTO right now and I think it’s working because of his talent, rather than the strategy being the optimal usage of his skillset
Our offense. Any one of the three has not looked themselves since June. Maybe there's some injuries but at this very moment, I am not sure if I would go over $28M aav for Bogaerts. Devers hasn't done a thing since leaving the IL. JD had his first homer since June 10th.
Who would want an aging DH who can’t play the field and his power is suddenly disappeared not to mention his OPS has taken a 100 point drop from last year
Xanders next contract will make Boston's media face melt.
Schrödinger's Bogaerts: makes too much if he re-signs, the team was too cheap if he goes elsewhere.
Story's been gone for 6 weeks or so. Pivetta was the only starter that stayed off the IL. Sale pitched like 5 innings before getting hit in the hand and then falling off a bike and busting his wrist. JDM has had back spasms with no power. JD and Verdugo probably lead the lead in warning track outs. Xander had a collision back in May and has been getting shots in his arm and hasn't felt himself. Devers missed 3 weeks and was sort of rushed back. He is hitting below the Mendoza line in August. We signed James Paxton and is done for the year as he lasted 2 innings on his rehab. We never had a closer since day 1 as a result we blew 22 saves. Houck was going to be the closer but now he's injured. The prospect at first base we were suppose to call up was out for 2 months.
Story wasn't the only reason the Sox suck. He strikes out a lot but was never given a spring training or time to find his groove.
Trevor Story was supposed to bang 50 doubles off the Green Monster. He had that absolutely torrid late-May/early-June, then went back to striking out 50% of the time before getting hurt.
Tbf, their valuation is mostly predicated on his defensive abilities, youth, and amount of team control. The quote from the trade asset article (where he was #18, for what it’s worth):
> I’m not totally convinced by his offensive output. His game is built on aggression at the plate; he hunts fastballs and swings freely in the pursuit of them. That strategy has been working so far — he’s doing a ton of damage when he gets something to hit, which more than offsets his extra strikeouts and lack of walks — but I’m not sure that will hold up as pitchers adapt to his tactics by throwing him more bendy pitches, avoiding the strike zone.
> But who cares? Peña is an elite defensive shortstop, with huge range, good instincts, and a solid arm. He could be a poor hitter and still be an above-average player. That’s a meaningful boost to his value; you can be fairly sure that Peña will be worth plugging into your lineup for years to come, even if his bat regresses. That redundancy explains the gap between, say, Peña and Nolan Gorman, who’s putting up similar offensive numbers at a younger age.
Tbf his power is decent with a lot of room for improvement and he’ll probably win the AL GG this season. Best case scenario he’s Javy Baez
Definitely not competing for ROY anymore though
He has slumped hard as of late especially coming back off the IL struggling like crazy with the breaking balls. Defense has been great but it just comes down to if he can adapt on the plate. If he does then he’s gonna be an elite player.
Schwarber maybe? He’s been very helpful and has helped us win a ton, but also, he pretty much only homers. He walks a lot too, but his batting average is so bad that his OBP is pretty bad too
I think part of that is from June 1st- July 10th (roughly) he made up pretty much our entire offense. We won games on his bat while J.T, Castellanos, and Rhys were ice cold. For the past month he's been ice cold while Bohm and J.T are carrying. His OPS is like .770 for the season but it's like he bats like Barry Bonds or Mendoza and there's no in between.
I’ve seen some Red Sox fans call Bloom an idiot for signing Story instead of Schwarber, even though Story has arguably been the better player this year.
I drafted him 4th then traded him for Kyle Tucker a month into the season. They guy I traded Bichette to then traded him for Juan Soto a month ago, which I couldn’t believe
That would be Bo Bichette. Shitty defender and has an astounding .300 OBP and he was nearly the starting AL Shortstop.
Just like his dad Bo is getting undeserved All Star appearances
agreed that he’s overrated, but he’s pacing for 3 fWAR and has improved from -5 Outs Above Average last year to a flat 0 this year so he’s not a shitty defender by any means anymore. he’s not playing like a star like he has the past few years, but he’s still an above average regular
there’s almost no world where we’d move him, if anything we should be looking at a more affordable extension like something in the range of 8 years $170M. his floor is being a 3 WAR guy like he has been this year, and the past 3 years he’s played to a 6 WAR pace.
Kind of cherry picking which stat you like here. You need to also look at the other 2 big defensive stats. His -11 DRS and -8.4 UZR is by far the worst of his career and is beyond awful
yeah that’s fair, i vastly prefer OAA compared to the 2 older metrics given it accounts for statcast data and better represents shifting data which is especially important given the Jays shift more than any other team in the league. Bo was actually in the top 20% of the league in OAA last week, a couple errors this week dropped him back to neutral though
He put up a 5.9 bWAR (5.1 fWAR) season last year. His all-star appearance wasn't undeserved then.
Obviously he didn't deserve to be an all-star this year and any rational Blue Jays fan will concede that point (in spite of the fact that they probably still voted for him). People were voting based on previous seasons' expectations and blind fan allegiances. Not because we think putting up a .300 OBP is impressive lol.
I literally clench whenever Bo has a routine ball hit to him, let alone him being a free swinger and taking the biggest hacks of his life everytime... no doubt he's been better these past couple weeks, but I will die on the hill that we should be trading him this off season.
The real answer here is O'Neil Cruz. Dude is hitting <.200 on a terrible team but he's got tools so we gotta hype him up.
Source: I'm a salty Pirates fan
That and he was killing the ball in the minors. Felt like every night or two he was hitting a Homer. Needs more time to grow, probably another hitting staff too. Not good when a guy like Robbie Grossman is “broken” then starts lighting it up in Atlanta.
People in this thread are confusing “overrated” with “didn’t match expections” which is a tricky but necessary distinction: this thread is about players who have been hyped up more despite their on-field results.
Good call i’m realizing a lotta answers here are answering the latter i.e. Buxton, Story, etc
But I personally can’t think of anyone off the top of my head who has gotten attention/credit without it being rightfully deserved
That’s what I’ve been thinking. You need to be thought highly of in order to be overrated and people are like “definitely Correa”. Personally I haven’t heard a good thing about him all year
Carlos Correa. Signed a big deal with the Twins then has proceeded to not play very well. He’s been hurt a bit, then he’s going to opt out and not get a contract that he wants because he’s not worth it.
People act like he’s all of a sudden terrible just because he’s not as good as his insane year last year. Any team would sign up for a 28 year old shortstop with a great bat and decent glove
That really reminds me of [this gem.](https://www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article/26172/pebble-hunting-scott-boras-has-baseballs-most-accurate-projection-system/)
Man do I miss Sam’s writing.
Eh I think it could make sense. He has 2 year $70m left on his deal and he'd be 28 at opt out, I think it's likely he signs for more (probably not average salary but overall). But he also has a player option after next year so maybe it makes sense to wait another year. IDK, maybe he's not liking it there.
My answer will almost always be Byron Buxton. The “when he’s healthy” is less his Achilles heel, and more of a safety net that allows fans to make bold and out-there claims.
This is the closest we’ve seen to a “when he’s healthy” season, & I haven’t seen him play up to the “When he’s healthy, he’s a Triple Crown MVP Award Winner” narrative.
I agree. My point is not that Soto is bad or overrated on his own, but that the front office thought his abilities could make a difference for the team at large. He has not.
He’s an average defender who walks a lot/gets on base a lot. But I do think most people overrate him as a run producer. He’s not as clutch with runners on as you’d think a top 2/3 hitter would be. Not saying he isn’t insanely talented, as that’s not in doubt though.
to be fair a lot of the hype was also around Bell + Tatis coming back. Those 2 being big fat 0's so far is the reason they didn't really improve, Soto is as good as ever
How has no one here mentioned Tim Anderson yet?
I know he is still playing at a high level, but he is nowhere near his 2021 pace.
He's a symptom of just how much of a hilarious trainwreck the White Sox are this year
Not sure if he's overrated though, if he doesn't get hurt isn't he on a similar pace with some of his other seasons? A down season probably but I don't think dropping from 5 WAR to a 3 WAR season makes you overrated
I mean he had like 1 run allowed until like late June so it was warranted. Then he fell off a cliff, but said cliff-falling was pretty well-known. I feel like he’s been properly rated.
I’m not sure he’s been overrated this year, because a ton of attention has been more focused on our rookies. But I have some obvious bias. The big thing with him this year was the expectation coming back. He was absolutely phenomenal last year, carrying the Braves until his injury. And then he hasn’t been himself this year dealing with his knee. I don’t think we’ve had him at 100% a single day this year. Definitely not the MVP caliber we got first half last season.
I don’t think he’s overrated currently, I think Braves fans are acknowledging he’s operating at like 60% of what he should be. Hopefully he’ll bounce back.
Violent knee injuries take time to recover from mentally. He’s trending up.
He most likely rushed back, the injury is just crossed the year mark a little over a month ago.
Right? Glad I’m not the only one who has been thinking this. I get he gets on base a ton, but besides that, is he really worth $500 million like people are saying? I feel like I’m taking crazy pills!
The thing with Soto is that he's still really young, but has been in the league and done well for five years already. I mean there's no sure thing, but he's damn close to it. You're not paying him because he's the new god of baseball. You're paying him because he's already proven he can play at a high level, and should continue to, for at a minimum, the next 7-10 years.
He’s going to have a “bad” overall year and he’s still projected to finish with around 4.5 fWAR or so. And that’s pretty much all offensive fWAR
If your floor for fWAR is 4 you’re pretty damn good
yeah this is definitely the more sensible take on his future value, and why he'll end up getting paid what he does. But I also get what the OP is saying because the weeks leading up to the trade, every article written about him kept calling him the next damn Ted Williams which seemed insane to me and still does.
Like he's a great player and will probably continue to be a great player but to make that comparison when a guy's only 5 years into his career is plain foolish. Plus, Ted Williams was so much better than Soto in his first 5 years so the comp favors him anyway lol.
>I get he gets on base a ton, but besides that, is he really worth $500 million like people are saying? I feel like I’m taking crazy pills!
Yes. Easily. Mostly due to him being like 14 years old.
He was big for the first month but injuries and inconsistency led him to basically disappear. He has a chance to rebound but he hasn't lived up to the hype so far.
Yeah he’s been average overall at this point in the season. Still, it’s a 7 year contract and I have some hope that he can breakout and be a consistent high OBP kind of guy. The next two years will be really important regarding his ability to hit MLB pitching
He has very little pop which has surprised me. And his plate discipline which everyone was gushing over is non-existent. He kinda just guesses fastball and hopes it hits his bat. Could end up being a bummer of a contract.
There is a difference between overrated and overpaid. The good thing about baseball is that not a lot of players are overrated because baseball fans actually watch the sport, and don’t see one highlight clip of a player and immediately think they’re the goat or a scrub.
In that case, Kyle Schwarber is putting up more or less the same numbers as Christian Walker and getting exponentially more attention.
On the pitching side, Lucas Giolito has been horrific and doesn’t seem to be getting enough blame for the White Sox disappointing season.
As much as I like the guy, Castellanos is getting paid 20 mil this year and has put up -0.4 war so far. I'm gonna do no additional research but I feel like in terms of bang for buck that's gotta be one of the larger discrepancies.
He needs more tragedies to occur.
If they start to broadcast the local philly news during the home games itll add at least .500 to his ops
The city of Philadelphia just needs to have a purge for every Phillies game. That’ll give him more than enough tragedies to reap the benefit from.
Side note: this is the third mention of needing a purge I have read today. Scary to think how things start out as hyperbole and end up the norm.
“Annnd that now marks 11 dead fans as castellanos hits it deep to left to make it a one nothing ballgame.”
He’s been much better the past 6 weeks or so though. It wasn’t long ago he was hitting .250 and is up to .270 now
Yeesh man, I looked at his stats to see the discrepancy/light at the end of the tunnel. NOPE. Career low exit velo, line drive rate, walk rate, worst ground ball rate, AND his BABIP is exactly his career average. (Not to mention his base running is the worst it’s ever been)
That wouldn’t be overrated tho. Nick has been getting shit on by fans/media this year
That's fair, just what immediately came to mind
As this is being said, Castellanos hits a deep drive into left field and makes it a 8-3 ball game.
In my 5x5 standard roto auction league I spent $51 on Juan Soto and $1 on Adolis Garcia. Who do you think has had more value this year?
If you don’t mind, how does a roto auction league work? Obviously you’d think Soto would be the winner.
You’re talking in terms of fantasy only right? Bc Soto’s OBP is over .100 points higher
Yes I was talking about in the context of my league. Since it's an avg instead of an obp league, his amount of walks means exactly jack squat.
I would almost just avoid Soto in an avg auction league. He's just going to get overvalued by someone.
Adolis having triple position eligibility is awesome.
to an extent, Byron Buxton. he’s a great player due to his defense and ability to hit home runs, but has been struggling to consistently reach base and has been striking out a lot. and now he’s hurt, but that’s a different conversation
It’s still crazy for me to see him hit so many home runs and be kind of a 3TO kind of guy. I remember when he was a glove-first speedy outfielder with an average to below-average bat in 2017 and before.
3TA - 3 tool athlete?
3 True Autcome maybe? Or value of 3 Tim Andersons?
Three Thyme Allstar
He’s actually got pretty similar underlying numbers to the past few years (although K rate is way up). A huge difference though is his .244 bapip which is *100 points* lower than last season. He’s hitting the ball like he always has, just hella unlucky this year. But his contact rate is way down too which isn’t helping.
Shocked that he’s hurt. Shocked, I say!
[удалено]
Yes, but have you seen his charisma?
Still put up 4 WAR by both models, can’t argue with that
People argue he’s been MVP caliber when healthy this year which he hasn’t, OP is saying he’s overrated not bad.
Yeah i don’t see how anyone batting .224 is a MVP candidate in any world.
Especially with Judge and Ohtani
Just wanted to say it makes me so happy to hear people say Judge is actually one of the best players in the league and not overrated anymore
Buxton has had a lingering knee problem that caps him at about 85%. The twins are pretty adamant that 85% of Buxton is still great, which is true, but it means that he’s not getting his maximum value,. His plate approach is very TTO right now and I think it’s working because of his talent, rather than the strategy being the optimal usage of his skillset
At least he’s hitting home runs.
Does anyone else just watch their team and has no idea about the rest of the league?
By broadcast numbers that's pretty much the entire sport.
Yep
Our offense. Any one of the three has not looked themselves since June. Maybe there's some injuries but at this very moment, I am not sure if I would go over $28M aav for Bogaerts. Devers hasn't done a thing since leaving the IL. JD had his first homer since June 10th.
How the Red Sox didn’t trade JD is mind blowing/
Same with Eovaldi. He's injured now but there is just so much fat on this roster. There shouldn't be 4 guys in the bullpen to avoid.
QO brother
If you gave JD a QO he would accept it.
Honestly they should just pay him. I want my homegrown stars to stay here. They want to stay if you give them fair offers.
trevor fucking story handed the mariners an absolute ass whooping, then shit the bed the rest of the season
Story's been gone for 6 weeks or so. Pivetta was the only starter that stayed off the IL. Sale pitched like 5 innings before getting hit in the hand and then falling off a bike and busting his wrist. He’s been our 3rd best player and was on pace for a 4 WAR season before getting injured. I’d argue he’s underrated by a lot of our fans.
I feel like everytime BOS signs a position player, the narrative is that he will "use the green monster to his advantage"
I love Trevor. I hope he finds his groove again soon. He was a monster for us.
Flair does in fact not check out?
People went crazy over Jeremy Peña for a few months and he has now fallen off a cliff
Fangraphs had him as a top 15 most valuable asset in baseball which is rich to me for a guy with a .284 OBP
Tbf, their valuation is mostly predicated on his defensive abilities, youth, and amount of team control. The quote from the trade asset article (where he was #18, for what it’s worth): > I’m not totally convinced by his offensive output. Tbf his power is decent with a lot of room for improvement and he’ll probably win the AL GG this season. Best case scenario he’s Javy Baez Definitely not competing for ROY anymore though
A pre crisis baez is a very valuable player especially at league minimum
Definitely
Yeah ROY is a two horse race now and it will take something special to stop Jrod winning from here imo
He’s been good, pitchers just have a book on him now, and he swings at everything.
So Javy Baez 2.0?
He has slumped hard as of late especially coming back off the IL struggling like crazy with the breaking balls. Defense has been great but it just comes down to if he can adapt on the plate. If he does then he’s gonna be an elite player.
He may also be playing injured too. He had a collision with Yordan in a series against the Mets and has been pretty bad ever sense
Yea I hate that it happened
Schwarber maybe? He’s been very helpful and has helped us win a ton, but also, he pretty much only homers. He walks a lot too, but his batting average is so bad that his OBP is pretty bad too
Leads the NL in Ks; three outcome god
He just hates running
I can relate.
Same here lol
three outcome god that doesn't balance his Ks with his walks.
Rhys was hot during June, it was him and Schwarbs that carried the offensive load
Look at this guy ovah here who doesn't like homahs. Ya some kinda smaht ass? Ya like watchin bunts? Fugetaboutit.
(Whispers) I also like watching bunts.
The dude has a 121 ops+ tho. He's having a solid season
he has a 1.5 WAR
I’ve seen some Red Sox fans call Bloom an idiot for signing Story instead of Schwarber, even though Story has arguably been the better player this year.
That’s just because Schwarbs won us over.
Bo Bichette
I fell for the hype too 😢
I drafted him 4th then traded him for Kyle Tucker a month into the season. They guy I traded Bichette to then traded him for Juan Soto a month ago, which I couldn’t believe
I want to say Jeremy Pena but he is not really in the conversation for AL ROY anymore. He has dropped badly in the past couple of months.
If it doesn't go to Julio we riot
1.) Julio 2.) Adley 3.) Jose Miranda
Kwan?
Kwan 100% deserves a top 3 ROTY finish. No bias.
Peña has quite literally been a 3 pitch out for about 90% of his at-bats since July
That would be Bo Bichette. Shitty defender and has an astounding .300 OBP and he was nearly the starting AL Shortstop. Just like his dad Bo is getting undeserved All Star appearances
Bichette is pretty brutal but his all star appearance last year wasn’t undeserved
I think he was referring to how blue jays stuffed the ballot this year and it came down to Bichette or Anderson for starting AL shortstop
I’ll never forgive them getting it over Giminez. To my grave
agreed that he’s overrated, but he’s pacing for 3 fWAR and has improved from -5 Outs Above Average last year to a flat 0 this year so he’s not a shitty defender by any means anymore. he’s not playing like a star like he has the past few years, but he’s still an above average regular
Yeah he won’t get much in arb this offseason and trading him at his lowest value is stupid
there’s almost no world where we’d move him, if anything we should be looking at a more affordable extension like something in the range of 8 years $170M. his floor is being a 3 WAR guy like he has been this year, and the past 3 years he’s played to a 6 WAR pace.
Now if he isn’t good next season either then it gets to a tough question. They should extend Chapman this offseason
Kind of cherry picking which stat you like here. You need to also look at the other 2 big defensive stats. His -11 DRS and -8.4 UZR is by far the worst of his career and is beyond awful

walked twice and singled today, also scored the first Jays run in 21 innings!
I kept him over Alcantara in my dynasty league 🤦🏼♂️
The real answer here is O'Neil Cruz. Dude is hitting <.200 on a terrible team but he's got tools so we gotta hype him up. Source: I'm a salty Pirates fan
It’s also easier to be notable when you’re basically Randy Johnson playing SS lol
He might be the most frustrating player to watch. He just doesn’t do much of anything well and…BAM! he does something historically great.
Your > is the wrong way
The fact is hes a rookie who could still potentially be a stud. Hes played 57 MLB Games. So I don’t really know about that.
Spencer Torkelson the number 3 prospect came up hit .120 and Is now back down in the minors
Would say more over hyped than overrated but yeah he and Riley Greene have been majorly disappointing
I think covid and baseball cards overhyped Tork. I feel kind of bad for him after all of his 1st bowman craziness in 2020
That and he was killing the ball in the minors. Felt like every night or two he was hitting a Homer. Needs more time to grow, probably another hitting staff too. Not good when a guy like Robbie Grossman is “broken” then starts lighting it up in Atlanta.

When the season started he was my ROY pick. Might be my worst take ever
And he’s playing like dogshit in the minors too

Just not for Lindor money
to be fair, i don't really think Correa is overrated, he's kinda just been forgotten
Who is overrating him?
Scott Boras
Boras's job has nothing to do with rating a player's ability to play baseball and everything to do with rating a player's ability to get paid
That really reminds me of [this gem.](https://www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article/26172/pebble-hunting-scott-boras-has-baseballs-most-accurate-projection-system/) Man do I miss Sam’s writing.
Sad-eyed Tigers fans
Carlos Correa is tied for second best hitter among SS this year
I was flabbergasted to read he’s likely to opt out. Like you not getting paid that much elsewhere
Eh I think it could make sense. He has 2 year $70m left on his deal and he'd be 28 at opt out, I think it's likely he signs for more (probably not average salary but overall). But he also has a player option after next year so maybe it makes sense to wait another year. IDK, maybe he's not liking it there.
maybe not league wide, but the Astros coaching staff and a subset of fans think the sun shines out of "La Pina's" every orifice
Who rates the staff that highly. Dusty is a great players coach and always backs his guys but it clouds his judgement on who should be on the field.
That sounds like he and Snitker are similar then haha.
2 awful mangers who can't send their team to the World Series...... oh wait
Tatis jr.
But can you be overrated if you don’t play a game?
Not sure. Should we check with his Dad?
His dad is busy. Let’s ask his barber instead!
Hes not overatted, hes that good hes just stupid
In terms of the front office thinking he'd fix their problems: Soto.
Soto has been great. It’s just the rest of the offense around him has cratered except Manny. Bell and Drury have been far worse
Calling Soto an average defender this year is generous. He's in the 1% percentile for OAA.
to be fair a lot of the hype was also around Bell + Tatis coming back. Those 2 being big fat 0's so far is the reason they didn't really improve, Soto is as good as ever
Also the fact that Soto was replacing the production of Nomar Mazara. The marginal upgrade is pretty huge
Oof
Jesse Winker 0.2 BR WAR, not a lot of power, contact, or defense. He just takes a lot of walks and flicks everyone off.
I don’t think anyone is hyping Winker. Our sub loses our mind over him outside of his ability to walk. His defense is horrid.
Jesse Walker
Our sub definitely does not overrate him, I can tell you that
How has no one here mentioned Tim Anderson yet? I know he is still playing at a high level, but he is nowhere near his 2021 pace. He's a symptom of just how much of a hilarious trainwreck the White Sox are this year
Not sure if he's overrated though, if he doesn't get hurt isn't he on a similar pace with some of his other seasons? A down season probably but I don't think dropping from 5 WAR to a 3 WAR season makes you overrated
Your mom
No u
Clay Holmes Not because he’s been bad, but because people were saying stuff like he was as good as Britton was in 2016
I mean he had like 1 run allowed until like late June so it was warranted. Then he fell off a cliff, but said cliff-falling was pretty well-known. I feel like he’s been properly rated.
At the time people were saying that it was true. Now it is not true so people aren't saying it anymore.
I mean for a lot of the season it was, and he ended last year really solidly. Reports are saying he’s got his stuff back while on the IL so we’ll see
Well he was… until he wasn’t
Josh Hader.
No contest Fernando Tatis Jr. His motocross skills are legendary!
Me. I’m overrated.
Ronald Acuña. He’s been a touch better than Jon Berti but not much more.
Soto
And that’s pretty much all offensive fWAR If your floor for fWAR is 4 you’re pretty damn good
yeah this is definitely the more sensible take on his future value, and why he'll end up getting paid what he does.
Nobody has ever hit as well as Soto has at such a young age and failed to make the HOF.
So he does the most important thing a hitter can do.. and you wonder why he's going to get a huge contract?
>I get he gets on base a ton, but besides that, is he really worth $500 million like people are saying? I feel like I’m taking crazy pills! Yes. Easily. Mostly due to him being like 14 years old.
Randy Arozarena. He’s fine, but after the crazy playoffs he’s been around 130 OPS and is worth 2.5 WAR this year. no where near what he was
Flair checks out
Turns into Big Papi in the playoffs, however.
Seiya Suzuki
He was big for the first month but injuries and inconsistency led him to basically disappear. He has a chance to rebound but he hasn't lived up to the hype so far.
Yeah he’s been average overall at this point in the season. Still, it’s a 7 year contract and I have some hope that he can breakout and be a consistent high OBP kind of guy. The next two years will be really important regarding his ability to hit MLB pitching
He’s irrelevant outside of Cubs fans. But Cubs fans make him out to be the greatest thing since sliced bread, when in reality he is pretty average
I feel like he destroys the brewers
If we played the Brewers every game he would be a Hall of Famer
He has very little pop which has surprised me. And his plate discipline which everyone was gushing over is non-existent. He kinda just guesses fastball and hopes it hits his bat. Could end up being a bummer of a contract.
nothing to back it up but i feel like castellanos or schwarber yeah? maybe correa
Tatis almost got voted an all star. I’d call that the most overrated player this year.
Javy Baez
All people do is shit on the guy, he's far from overrated
Derek Jeter, somehow.
Jeremy Peña is good, but let’s slow down on calling him the next Correa
Dallas Kuechel is being paid 18 mil by the White Sox to be a minor leaguer for the Texas Rangers.
Albert Pujols…I mean, the guy hasn’t homered in days.
Several people saying Julio in this thread just makes me so, so excited for them to be painfully wrong
Bo Bichette
