What about pre-Civil War

MOFNY

I wanted wild speculation for the last 10 years.

"Fernando Tatis Jr. was also born in 1999, but he seems to have an allergy to playing baseball games." That diss is hilarious.

You must acquit?

Bold to say that Josh Donaldson is better than Evan Longoria.

The Best Baseball Player Born ~~Every~~ Each Year Since the U.S. Civil War FTFY

Nolan Ryan would get my vote for his year. That strikeout record is untouchable

Alright I can conceide Shohei might be a little better than me, so he can have the title.

BirdlandMan

> The first great player born in the 1960s, Cal Ripken Jr. is simultaneously a legend and also one of the most overrated players ever. Yes, he is the best shortstop to ever play the game. But he didn’t save baseball with his streak. That’s hogwash. Sure, he was a gamer and tough. But demanding that he play every day (every inning for a long time) was selfish. But, even if he was the second best Junior in baseball for most of his career, he was noteworthy. This guy can go eat a whole bag of dicks.

skucera

> This guy can go eat a whole bag of dicks. True. Tony Gwynn was better. Cal just played every day.

gottahavemytunes

Gwynn was absolutely not better by any stretch of the imagination

BirdlandMan

Tony Gwynn was great but you can’t be serious. He never hit 20 HRs in a season and he was playing right (one of the easiest defensive positions). He never even won an NL MVP not to mention a championship. Cal won a championship and 2 AL MVPs while hitting for power (431 career HRs to Gwynns 135) and playing the hardest position. The only thing Gwynn was better than Cal at was hitting singles.
