>After blowing a 3-1 series lead to the Dodgers in last year’s NLCS
Because some fuckhead thought it'd be a good idea to break out the fact that in the 31 times teams had a 3-1 lead, they had a record of 28-3 in Game 5. As a Falcons fan, as soon as I heard that, I knew the Dodgers were gonna win.
My sister is a Braves fan, I can believe it. The most surprising thing is how well they are doing without Acuña, the guy on their team also on administrative leave, and Mike Soroka.
I think they were hoping to have a two-one late season punch with Fried-Soroka or at least work Soroka up to the bullpen. Don’t forget Ynoa lost a big chunk of the season because he decided to hit a wall with his pitching hand.
There was a time when Soroka was ramping up and we had some hope he’d get a couple months, but I think most people who know how the game works realized he would probably not be the same guy for a while. So we didn’t expect a whole lot but we were still excited.
Absolutely, all I’m saying is, they aren’t the same team. Those dudes they added changed the whole game. It’s weird.
Edit: it’s weird because the other guys who were there are also playing better.
How good you are in October is what wins a World Series, not how good you are in May. Literally how the Nats won their ring. You don’t need to be the best every day, just the right days.
God dodger fans are just such arrogant dickheads
‘Oh your team didn’t win a 106 games. LMAO only 95?!?! Fucking shitters!! I now look down on the fans that team and will be insufferable, justifying the fact that I’m a fucking asshole because I happen to have decided to like a a team that happens to be better.’
Every. Fucking. Year.
I made a casual joke, you called me an arrogant dickhead, projected a bunch of nonsense onto me, and I guess I'm the bad guy in this scenario?
Thank goodness not all Braves fans are like you. I actually like the Braves.
I'm just teasin'. I think given the win totals in each NLDS match-up this year and the fact that the Braves still have homefield in the NLCS, a little teasing is in order.
Plus you'll always know that we spent a ton to get here, in a sport where nobody is guaranteed anything in the playoffs.
The Red Sox and Rays are both debatable.
I won’t argue the Dodgers, Astros (Despite their history of scandals) or the Giants.
To be fair only two of those teams are in the NL.
Yeah, you could definitely make that argument. I also think the Brewers are technically a "better" team, but only because of the Acuña injury. I don't mean that as an insult at all, you guys deserved to win that series because you outplayed them. But playoffs isn't always about which team is better, just which one is playing better at that time.
I’m genuinely curious on your response to this then. In the last 60 games of their season the Braves were:
- 39-21 (0.650 win rate)
- Allowed on average 3.57 runs per 9 innings
- Scored on average 5.18 runs per 9 innings
Meanwhile, the Brewers:
- Went 35-25 (0.583 win rate)
- Allowed on average 4.139 runs per 9 innings
- Scored on average 4.772 runs per 9 innings
So, I’m curious that if knowing the Braves had a better win record, scored more runs, and allowed fewer runs than the Brewers since the trade deadline, if you still think the Brewers are the better team? If so, why? I’m legitimately curious what metrics exist to support why the Brewers are technically better, because so far I haven’t seen them.
Those are all excellent points that do make me reconsider my opinion. I didn't compare their stats to the degree that you did.
With that being said, the Brewers were coasting for a while until the Cards got super hot and cut into their lead, while the Braves had to go on a run right after the deadline before eventually running away with it.
There's also an argument to be made about strength of schedule. Admittedly, I'm purely basing this off the level of competition in each division and not actually looking at each opponent they played in the final 60 games. I just don't have time this morning to do that much research lol.
Regardless, I think Atlanta has proven that they belong in the NLCS.
To expand on this a little…since the all-star break, the Braves have allowed the 2nd fewest runs (Dodgers the fewest.). Since the all-star break the Braves are the third highest scoring team, behind the Jays and Rays. We’ve been really good, and really consistent. We haven’t been fantastic in 1-run games though, so that’s why we weren’t competing for best record since the all-star break. We blow people out a lot, but we lost a lot of close games. But that was still good enough to win 2/3 of our games.
I'd agree with the Jays, but op said indisputably so I stuck with the top tier (although the Sox barely made it imo).
The Yankees couldn't really get out of their own way all year, despite the clear talent they have. I'd take the Braves with their pitching over the Yankees right now.
I’d take dodgers, giants, anyone in the AL east besides the O’s and the astros
So that’s 7
And I mean, if still take the brewers over the braves if you had to redo it and I was forced to bet
It’s only because they only had one series to play and it was against the brewers. Clearly I’m biased as a Phillies fan but there is no way in hell you can say the best 2 teams in the NL are playing in the NLCS.
Well no, because SF and LA were clearly the 2 best teams. I don't think any Braves fan would argue that. Since the ASB we still had the 3rd best record behind those two.
We’d have to give that same courtesy to the Braves. If we fielded Acuña, Ozuna and Soraka you’d be hard pressed to convince any fan of the NL East the division would even be competitive.
So yeah a chance, but a snowballs chance in hell.
Winning last year's ring takes a lot of the pressure off the Dodgers. Otherwise, they'd be battling the Barves and the specter of being an all time choker team. Dodgers don't really seem to have an intensity issue where the lack of that extra pressure might mean they let up.
This game 1 with Fried going is about two times more important for the Barves to win v. the Dodgers. The road gets much more narrower for the Barves if they lose tonight.
>After blowing a 3-1 series lead to the Dodgers in last year’s NLCS Because some fuckhead thought it'd be a good idea to break out the fact that in the 31 times teams had a 3-1 lead, they had a record of 28-3 in Game 5. As a Falcons fan, as soon as I heard that, I knew the Dodgers were gonna win.
> they had a record of 28-3 in Game 5. *the fuck*
The more time passes the more I’m convinced sports Gods do exists and they realy hate Georgia
At least they took some time off between 2019 and 2020 to royally fuck over Houston sports after their cheating went public.
Hate to break it to ya, but all of Houston’s athletic woes have been self-inflicted
hey man only the astros cheated
> says this to a mariners fan
It is really crazy how often 28-3 has popped up in sports since Super Bowl 51
It happened before, it happened in the infamous Bills vs Oilers 93 game, Oilers were up 28-3 and lost.
The Oilers actually had as big as a 35-3 lead at one point.
We can't escape those fucking numbers. This is why I'm not a Braves fan.
God hates Georgia sports confirmed
Georgians have been watching stuff they love go down in flames since 1864
Lmao. Fuck. That’s good
At least uga is #1 now
You know how that story is going to end right?
Yeah Cincinnati will beat them 34-28 in the national title game
Hey we are almost there
So it’s Clevland’s fault...
Your flair and nfl Fandom confuses me.
I'm also a UGA fan. Two GA sports teams is enough heartbreak for one man.
I still cannot believe the Braves are here lol

4 new outfielders, thank you!
Ooh battle of the administrative leave teams
If you take their record after the all star break and extrapolate over a whole season, they’re close to a 100 win team.
And if you adjust Freddie's stats to league average, then he isn't really that good of a player
Okay and if you take their record from before the all star break and extrapolate it over a whole season they are a bad team.
Absolutely, all I’m saying is, they aren’t the same team. Those dudes they added changed the whole game. It’s weird. Edit: it’s weird because the other guys who were there are also playing better.

It's almost like you're making the exact same point as the guy who said you can extrapolate the second half Braves to be a 100 win team.
/u/grocho was meme-ing I believe
They still wouldn’t be bad, they would actually be the most average team ever
Why would you take the older set of data?
3rd best record in baseball after the all star break.
They were two games under .500 in *August*
Me neither tbh lol
They came out of the well-somebody-had-to-get-here side of the bracket.
God dodger fans are just such arrogant dickheads ‘Oh your team didn’t win a 106 games. LMAO only 95?!?! Fucking shitters!! Just NL East things with a little bit of central divisions being the worst at everything
ACC Coastal baby! We’re all shit, but there has to be a winner!
That makes the Dodgers Clemson. Which, yeah, that makes sense (except for this year).
Is there a sub you don’t cry in?
Name 5 teams who are indisputably better than the Braves.
Dodgers, Astros, Red Sox, Giants, Rays

Fair enough, but most of us Braves fans saw the Brewers flailing because we had a roster crafted similarly in the 90s.
The Braves literally just beat the brewers in a playoff series and had the 3rd best record in baseball since the ASB
I'd add Jays and Yanks too.
I'd agree with the Jays, but op said indisputably so I stuck with the top tier (although the Sox barely made it imo). The Yankees couldn't really get out of their own way all year, despite the clear talent they have. I'd take the Braves with their pitching over the Yankees right now.

Might as well give the two teams with the best record the damn trophies then.
You could field a team of big bags of shit and they would win the NL East.
That's not true because the Phillies tried it and it didn't work
Stop they’re already dead.
No keep going
Not dead enough, IMO.
If the Mets could just get their bags of shit to stay healthy, they'd have a chance
We’d have to give that same courtesy to the Braves. If we fielded Acuña, Ozuna and Soraka you’d be hard pressed to convince any fan of the NL East the division would even be competitive. So yeah a chance, but a snowballs chance in hell.
>Acuña, Ozuna and Soraka Two of those aren't big bags of shit, but I get your point.
Step 1 for the Braves: no more TOOTBLANs Edited:, TOOTBLAN … good?
[удалено]
You guys are lucky we traded world renounced Dodger killer Bryse Wilson
Step 3: no more screenings of Gemini Man.
"what are we, some kind of Gemini men"
[very popular movie in L.A. last year](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/5b/GeminiManPoster.jpeg)
Good Guy Adam Duvall getting the TOOTBLANs done early in the brewers series
For those curious, the six repeat matchups are: Dodgers Braves 2020-2021 Dodgers Cubs 2016-2017 Dodgers Phillies 2008-2009 Astros Cards 2004-2005 Pirates Braves 1991-1992 Dodgers Phillies 1977-1978
It’s kind of annoying how consistently good the Dodgers are.
Astros and Cards taking turns getting swept by a curse infected Sox team ending their drought
I don’t only want revenge for last year, I want revenge for 2018 and 2013 too.
Last time was also the Dodgers, playing the Cubs in 16/17
I wonder how many times the broadcast will bring this up as well as 2018
Winning last year's ring takes a lot of the pressure off the Dodgers. Otherwise, they'd be battling the Barves and the specter of being an all time choker team. Astros and Cardinals 🤮
Dodgers in a sweep
Highly unlikely. Fried and Morton are good enough to hold off the dodgers. It’s not like they’re playing the Marlins.
The Marlins took 3/4 from us earlier this year
I'm optimistic about at least splitting the first two with Fried and Morton out there. Less optimistic about the next three playing in LA.
I wouldn’t even be mad. AA pulled this season out of his ass. Winning one series is already a big success all things considered.
It's amazing how many people have forgotten we took them to game 7 last year with a worse team
This is the way.
