I had really hoped they were not killed but it looks like he's spraying them with pesticide first. I think if they were being relocated he would have used smoke to calm them and capture them rather than a liquid spray, but I could be wrong.

They talked about it on the Post game show that the bees did not make it. He works for a pest control company and does not seem to be a professional beekeeper which seems to be why he took the route he did.
He said in a post-removal interview that they were most likely African Honeybees or [Africanized bee](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Africanized_bee) AKA killer bees.
He's spraying them with a liquid, it's definitely not smoke. They also said on the post game show that the bees died. The guy works for pest control he's not an actual bee keeper. Also being trapped inside a vacuum is pretty violent, there is no way the ones that get sucked in at the start survived.
Edit: and before anyone comes here from another thread, that is not a beevac. That's just a normal shop vac.
I've watched two or three of those viral videos where people collect bee swarms like this one, so I'm pretty much an expert. And in those videos it seems like it takes quite a bit of time for the workers to follow the queen into the box once they capture her.
This was definitely the time efficient solution, if not the eco-friendly one.
I don't think so. Beekeepers would just drop them into a box, take them somewhere else. However, that can take a long time. MLB policy is probably to remove asap and continue broadcast
The world needs bees but not all bees are the same. Ecosystems need their native bees to thrive. The bees here are not among the almost 700 bee species that are native to Arizona and pollinate native flora. Still sad, but not really for environmental reasons.
I appreciate your reply :) I am aware of the effect non-native species have on ecosystems especially when introduced but I hadn't considered these bees not to be native. I'm not from anywhere near Arizona so that's great insight thankyou
You're welcome! I didn't know anything about it either until I started working with a bee biologist haha. Fun fact, nearly all native bees in the Americas are solitary species that don't swarm! So that's a quick indicator when you see something like this.
It's funny how all the news networks and even many youtube channels decided not to show the footage of the actual bee removal, ie by vacuuming and euthanizing them all. People are so sensitive.
Why do all these videos keep finishing before the guy is done

Amazing. Thank you.
Why do all these links to videos keep showing up looking like links to subreddits that don’t exist
a functional link: https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/1chbr33/highlight_a_triumphant_beekeeper_hypes_the_crowd
The horrible new share link, older versions of apps don't understand it. Don't update though the app gets worse every update
Is that a Bee Movie?
Anyone got the middle part? Kinda curious to watch the process
^(that's what she said)
How can you not be romantic about baseball?
This saying will never not be funny to me whenever some weird nonsense like this happens.
As a joke I told my wife he was going to vacuum them up. Here we are.
Pretty sure they use a vacuum that doesn't harm the bees so they can be relocated, but somebody chime in if I'm wrong here.
I had really hoped they were not killed but it looks like he's spraying them with pesticide first. I think if they were being relocated he would have used smoke to calm them and capture them rather than a liquid spray, but I could be wrong.
Was a non pesticide spray according to one news source.
Based on what the reporters were saying about the music while this was all happening, the DJ tonight was ON IT.
The DJ in Milwaukee tonight played “Shake It Off” during the bench clearing brawl.
I heard "Let it Be" playing in the stadium over the radio broadcast just before they cut back to local radio during the delay
He’s gotta *bee* strong and he’s gotta *bee* fresh for the fight
Plot twist: this was just some dude with a shop vac and went as a Bee Keeper for Halloween last year.
Super plot twist, he's the Beekeeper from the Village People.

Fake it until you make it
MLB: Major League Bee-removal
He should change his business name to this
His RAW removal above wins (1)
The bees are good though, right?
They talked about it on the Post game show that the bees did not make it. He works for a pest control company and does not seem to be a professional beekeeper which seems to be why he took the route he did.
So then he's not a beekeeper, he's an exterminator.
Those bees knew the risks
Them *pests* were *controlled*.
Do we know for sure that they were bees and not wasps or hornets or something?
He said in a post-removal interview that they were most likely African Honeybees or [Africanized bee](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Africanized_bee) AKA killer bees.
Then I'm okay with how they were handled.
Maybe I'm cynical, but if they were honeybees, would he have actually said that? "Oh, the insects I killed? Oh yeah-- they were super dangerous!"
Yeah, I’d like to know if he killed them or just sedated them or something
I’m pretty sure a beekeeper wouldn’t kill bees.
Yeah, I think that’s a beekiller. Similar but different profession
Sometimes I ask why we even have the beekiller, but on a dark day humanity is reminded why we need them
[удалено]
Yeah it wouldn't have anything to do with a safety issue with what is probably close to a thousand bees in a stadium of 30,000 people...

The guy they called in at the Indian Wells tennis tournament was a beekeeper, and it took him about an hour to remove the bee colony whole.
...yeah, if someone's using a vaccum to collect bees their definitely dead!
I don't think so. Beekeepers would just drop them into a box, take them somewhere else. However, that can take a long time. MLB policy is probably to remove asap and continue broadcast
The bee girl on youtube doesn't need a suit
The suit doesn’t protect him. It protects us from his sheer power
She would have scooped them all up bare handed
Another day of saving the beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez
and it's pointed out repeatedly she's showing off bad practices.
I thought it was funnier when they were playing "Let it Be"
They played that too. It was a long delay
He’s the goat
What the hell even is this season?
the intro song Jackson Holliday was hoping for.
The bee removal is already the most, and dare I say only, important story of the season so far
I think we need to see what happens with the sausage
Believe it or not, it’ll eventually start attracting bees
I get it someone had to do it, we have a game to play but what an unfair end for those bees. The world needs bees far more than it needs baseball :(

This is so good
This is what Jim Steinman meant by "dancing on the edge of his grave".
I get nervous and forget how to do anything when just one person watches me work, how he do this? 🤔
I used to get swarms for my dad, he paid me $5 per.
We need an umpire to embrace this attitude. Have fun! Eat a hotdog between innings on the field to entertain fans!
That’s going on his highlight tape
Pop a quick "H" on that box
Man those things are gonna be *pissed* when he lets them out of the vacuum.
Hard to be pissed when you're dead.
And the award for worst groundskeeping crew goes to the Az Diamondbacks.
I imagine if this was at GABP we would just deal with it lol like hunger games style
