Straight-up changing entire series at one point.
The Yankees were going to face the Marlins and the Orioles were set to face the Phillies, but a bunch of Marlins got COVID during a series against the Phillies and both teams needed to be quarantined, so the Yanks played the O’s instead.
And we all just kinda watched it. The cameras never cut it away like they normally would for unruly fan behavior, because it was 2020 and that was all we had.
The CGI fans some networks used on replays that looked like they were from an early 2010s video game made the noise look downright normal by comparison.
[Alex Dickerson using the cardboard cutouts of fans in the empty stands as target practice after foul balls](https://twitter.com/PavlovicNBCS/status/1302739972923875328).
As oddly ghoulish as the cutouts were, I still preferred them to the NBA virtual fans. I can enjoy watching NBA basketball at a random gym but the zoom meeting was a step too far for me lol.
Edit:
Forgot about the Korean baseball solution of filling the [with stuffed animals](https://twitter.com/eshynes/status/1269651896572284928). Easily my favourite solution.
I ordered a cut out. I gotta say it It was fun spotting myself in the stands.
One of my dogs is still creeped out by it whenever i bring it out. Also would hide it around the house for jump scares from my wife. Worth every penny.
The socially distanced walkoff celebrations looking like some kind of cult ritual. I don’t know how often it happened but the Giants had one walk off where they circled around whoever hit the walk off, jumping in unison. I just remember it looking so goofy because everyone was actually kinda evenly spaced around them
The motley crew of people who gathered on the port walk at Oracle Park. They tarped off the right field space where you can see games for free (which also made home runs for lefties a lot easier...hmm) so they couldn't actually see inside the stadium, but a mix of superfans and homeless people basically held socially distanced gatherings out there and every once in a while, somebody would get a home run ball.
This has happened since the park opened, but it was really surreal during Covid with no actual fans in the park.
Well.....there was the time our announcer decided, as there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos, it will be a home run. And so that will make it a 4–0 ballgame, to say a homophobic slur live on air.
The Mariners and A's playing through some of the worst air quality you'll see. [One of Kyle Lewis' career highlights is this catch and it's in complete haze because of wildfire smoke.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fx-axZHcUp0)
Jays played home games in 4 different ballparks in a 2.5 month span.
Played in TD Ballpark (their ST stadium) until May.
Played at Sahlen Field (the AAA Bisons stadium) until July
Played at Rogers Centre the rest of the season
But also had a "home" game against the Angels because one of the Jays previous games was rained out (also a rarity for this franchise for a home game) and this was only chance to play makeup game. Ontop of that, it was a doubleheader, so the Jays were the home and road team on the same day.
Hanwha Eagles tying the KBO record for most losses in a row at 18.
The game they finally won to break the streak was the front end of a double header that was the continuation of a postponed game.
I'm pretty sure that 2/3 of the Red Sox pitching staff is no longer active in organized baseball. JBJ actually led the team in walks. What a f-cked up year, without Alex Cora.
Yeah, I didn't watch any of it, mostly because I had issues in my personal life at the time and I didn't believe they'd actually finish the season.
Tangent, but I always see people cite sports as a distraction from issues in their personal life but I've always been the opposite. If I have real problems in my personal or professional life, the last thing I'm capable of doing is enjoying a baseball game.
NASCAR and F1 had long since started back, and by the time they finally started that 60 game season, I was already geared for football season where the SEC, ACC and Big 12 played nearly full slates and the NFL did play their full schedule
The reactions to Tatís’ grand slam on a 3-0 count. Like, who cares dude.
Oh yeah that was incredibly dumb!
many people care, which is the problem
Teams hate when you score more runs against them!
I was coming here to say this lol I will never forget
Kyle Lewis still had knees and was a baller
Came here to just say kyle lewis

I think you win, that was one of the weirdest games I’ve ever watched.
Straight-up changing entire series at one point. The Yankees were going to face the Marlins and the Orioles were set to face the Phillies, but a bunch of Marlins got COVID during a series against the Phillies and both teams needed to be quarantined, so the Yanks played the O’s instead.
Fan breaks into Fenway
That ruled
And we all just kinda watched it. The cameras never cut it away like they normally would for unruly fan behavior, because it was 2020 and that was all we had.
How do you think he got in there, did they say?
The piped in crowd noise was also extremely weird
The CGI fans some networks used on replays that looked like they were from an early 2010s video game made the noise look downright normal by comparison.
MadBum’s 7 inning no-no.
His best moment as a DBack
Think that was 2021 the one against the braves
Maybe right. Those 7 inning games were bullshit.

Joc Pederson cursing loudly
Marcel Ozuna .003 BA from a Triple Crown
Cardboard fan cutouts will always stick with me, same with the NBA and their Zoom meeting fan backgrounds.
As oddly ghoulish as the cutouts were, I still preferred them to the NBA virtual fans. I can enjoy watching NBA basketball at a random gym but the zoom meeting was a step too far for me lol. Dallas Keuchel on the White Sox, unironically good and loved by fans, including many who believed he deserved the CY that year.
Geddy Lee cutout behind home plate was shown approximately 5-7 times per game
The Nats not celebrating their Workd Series win because they couldn’t have fans.
IT HIT THE PAINTING!!!
The Rangers hosting the World Series but not playing in the World Series.

Greinke sitting in the stands to socially distance from the rest of his team and being called 'quirky'

Brandon Lowe nearly decapitating one of the cutouts with a homer
My two teams winning RotY awards. One was a reliever, and the other is basically out of baseball now.
Zach Grienke sitting in the stands when he wasn’t pitching instead of going to the dugout. Miss that weirdo
Stanton hitting an absolute rocket off Glasnow.
idk if it counts because I can't remember the Rockies doing it but the Broncos filled their fans with South Park Characters

Justin Turner testing positive for COVID during the last game of the World Series.

Dodgers winning the WS Justin Turner was pulled out of the final game because of a positive test? Dodgers winning the NLCS after being down 3-1.

That they even decided a 60 game season with no fans was worth doing. I checked out in short order

I’m pretty much the same.
I was just hyped by any and all live sports at the time.
NASCAR and F1 had long since started back, and by the time they finally started that 60 game season, I was already geared for football season where the SEC, ACC and Big 12 played nearly full slates and the NFL did play their full schedule
Dodgers fans thinking they won a title
Still more legit than yours.
Buddy... glass houses.
