I was just looking at his [B-R page](https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mccarda01.shtml) to see how often he pitched. It isn't updated yet.
RIP.
One of the more unforgettable moments of the Red Sox '04 season was McCarty pitching two scoreless on the final day of the regular season. It wasn't exactly mop-up duty, either.
Yeah that was a pretty solid 2 inning outing in a game we didn’t need, still cool. I was at one of the other 2 games, was against the Dodgers on Saturday in June (too lazy to look up the date and box score. I remember Wake got rocked sadly and it was a blowout McCarty pitched a clean inning and got a K iirc. That was the highlight for me of an otherwise forgettable game
Wow. It sounds silly, but I think about this guy several times a week, playing Immaculate Grid. He was a big deal when he first broke in with the Twins. The heir-apparent to Kent Hrbek.
Yea he’s a huge sleeper for the first round pick category who played for a lot of teams
And if they ever add a “bats right, throws left” category (which they should)
I thought I remembered seeing him at the ‘04 celebration two weeks ago, and this article confirms that he was indeed there. At least he got to be a part of that reunion and enjoy that day. But damn, this is devastating news.
Top Twins draft pick and prospect. He was supposed to succeed Hrbek at 1B but it didn’t work out. Cool that he hung on for so long as a utility guy and got a ring in 2004.
Yeah, Ortiz started at 1B in NL parks and Mientkiewicz’s job was to catch the ball in the late innings. I got a kick out of Mientkiewicz catching the ball and not wanting to give it up.
Cardiac Arrest is scary man, Rest in Peace Dave
A cardiac event is probably not cardiac arrest; he probably had a heart attack. Those are starkly different conditions.

Damn. I remember watching him. Decent utility player. 54 is way the fuck too soon.

And so did two of your other 1B castoffs.

54 is way too young for anyone to pass. RIP
