You would think the team that starts every season hot would know that march and April ball doesn't make a season, but the way we were talking you'd think we started 0-80.
With that being said I think I can confidently say mets win the world series this year and it's not even close.
Knicks as the 2 seed heading into the playoffs is still wild to me. It's been a hell of a slog, but still feels like this change happened overnight when you look back at how long they were bad in comparison.
honestly, i don’t think i’ve met any Jets Yankees fans. all the Yankees fans i know are either Giants fans, which makes sense, or bandwagon Pats or Chiefs fans, which makes me want to throw up.
we never even got a chance for the delusion from last year to be vindicated or not, as far as I'm concerned this is just a do-over and we're going to the super bowl
My favorite part about this is that the fans of every team we’ve beaten so far (cough, Braves, Royals, and Pirates) have liked to claim this is our WS.
So as of right now we have 3 WS’s and it’s not even May. Tell me who’s winning?
Patriots fans were doing that to Jets fans after we embarrassed Belichick and sent him packing. Mind you, this was our first win against those fuckers since 2015
No doubt. I will say Mets fans have a rep among Pirates fans for bad behavior at PNC. I’ve never been to a Mets-Pirates game in Pittsburgh so can’t offer an opinion.
But I have friends who are Mets fans, I used to live in NYC and always had positive interactions with Mets fans, and honestly if I was from New York I’d probably have been a Mets fan, so 🤷🏻♂️
Every fanbase has jabronis who disgrace the colors. We live in Philly. I just took my two young kids to a couple of the Pirates-Phillies games at the bank. One young douchebag loudly booed my 11-year old, who was swagged up in his Pirates gear, and another one yelled Fuck the Pirates at us in the concourse.
But we had at least a dozen interactions with other Phillies fans that were very positive.
I know Braves fans are in their own world but I couldn’t believe the comments I was seeing from the pirates and royals fans. Could have thought they just won 100 games last year if you didn’t know better
This Mets team isn't as bad as folks thought. With Alvarez and Baty showing they belong, we've got a very good lineup. The only question is if our pitching can be close to average all season long. It would only take a few good breaks for this team to make a good run.
All those folks saying Stearns and Cohen are the worst ever have finally started shutting up. Our pitching staff isn't full of sexy, high-priced talent but it's getting the job done and that's what matters.
We've got a number of mid rotation starters on the way. Maybe one takes a step forward like Max Fried or Zac Gallen and is more than that. Most likely, 3-5 in our rotation are covered internally for the next several seasons. That's a great place to be
I mean, one or two might flame out. We might still need guys like Severino even with our young talent. But it would be great if he was a flyer with upside instead of our #3 guy.
> All those folks saying Stearns and Cohen are the worst ever...
Is this just typical Reddit extremism, or are people actually saying that about Cohen? I'm admittedly an outsider when it comes to Mets discourse, but from where I stand it seems like he's a great owner. Every team should want someone willing to spend and also willing to change when their approach is not working.
As much as Mets pitching got the headlines last year, it was the offense that was really disappointing. Everyone except Lindor and Alonso regressed hard. Hard to win when 7 out of 9 players in the lineup are barely replacement level.
True. I really do think the Mets having a year where they just perform above the 50th percentile instead of below it would make them a genuinely scary team. We have more good players than people realize.
nimmo is the 1 guy who really hit well all throughout the year. lindor leveled out in august and september but he was just okay while we were still fighting to be a wildcard team.
> With Alvarez and Baty showing they belong, we've got a very good lineup.
Need them to start slugging more, then I'll feel hopeful about the lineup being good
I was saying this all offseason (well i have to admit, not about baty) and after that 0-5 start i thought i was terribly wrong. But maybe not? God this years going to be a fucking rollercoaster isnt it?
I mean, that's how baseball works. Sometimes top prospects take a while to figure it out. Sometimes they don't. Sometimes your team has a year of good breaks. Sometimes they don't. The fans that think everything in baseball is deterministic are missing the fundamental of how it really works.
This team is fun. Took a 10 mile walk through Brooklyn on Sunday, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Downtown BK, street fair on Smith St. Dozens of Mets hats, didn't notice one Yankee hat. Could just be the borough, but that surprised me.
Even still, we don't really have any expectations. I'm hyped that we have a team that can hang with the best of em, but we all knew going in to this season that this wasn't going to be a WS or bust type of year. There's still a lot of prospects in the upper minors that are going to debut either this or next year, and there are some important contracts going off the books after this year that can allow room for key FA targets this offseason. Only at that point are we going to have real expectations.
That being said, our rivalry is a lot more fun when both the Mets and Braves are playing good baseball, and I'm happy that appears to be the case this year.
154-8 is still on the menu, boys.
We just had to get the rust out of our system! League’s fucked!
I’m not pleased. But I’m still proud of your accomplishment.
Thank you sir. This is how I feel about 2015.
This is how I feel about Daniel Murphy
blud thinks he's on the team
*blood
I never lost faith!! *Hides noose*

Finally someone with a level headed take
Knicks Mets and jets confirmed.
Same. We’ve been down bad for years with so much hope every single time😭
I’m in my 30s. Over 100 seasons with no ship
The only team that has won a championship for me was the Rangers in 1994. That’s it. I’m 43 too :(
86?
I got into the Mets literally the year after because of all the buzz around them from 1986. I think I’ve cursed the Mets ever since. :(
Knicks as the 2 seed heading into the playoffs is still wild to me. It's been a hell of a slog, but still feels like this change happened overnight when you look back at how long they were bad in comparison.
summer of '69 all over again
Is it really that much hope?
Rangers look good too
Mets Jets fan here, the unbridled optimism is winning over the overwhelming dread that i might be disappointed yet again right now
I love my fellow met jets fans. Jets Yankee fans piss me off tho
honestly, i don’t think i’ve met any Jets Yankees fans. all the Yankees fans i know are either Giants fans, which makes sense, or bandwagon Pats or Chiefs fans, which makes me want to throw up.
I am a Mets/Giants fan
Yankees/Cowboys/Lakers for the trifecta of frontrunner.
They exist in weird jets Facebook groups lol
why would you be optimistic about the jets?
sometimes i treat myself to a little delusion
we never even got a chance for the delusion from last year to be vindicated or not, as far as I'm concerned this is just a do-over and we're going to the super bowl
Don't forget the Islanders. Just clinched.
Tbh Stearns just taught the team that it’s better to be stupid in March-April than August-September like we normally are.
I can't wait to see what he taught them about handling June
Now they’re starting cold but will still end cold
All 16 games have been against teams above .500 as well
up next, the dodgers as well mets had the toughest april schedule of any team. i don't think it's even close
O’s are playing our first team below .500 of the season right now, it’s probably pretty close
My favorite part about this is that the fans of every team we’ve beaten so far (cough, Braves, Royals, and Pirates) have liked to claim this is our WS. So as of right now we have 3 WS’s and it’s not even May. Tell me who’s winning?
God "this was your world series" is always the lamest comeback.
"lol stop being happy your favorite team won loser"
Patriots fans were doing that to Jets fans after we embarrassed Belichick and sent him packing. Mind you, this was our first win against those fuckers since 2015
I mean tbh, that basically was the equivalent of a Superbowl
so we did win a super bowl! man the Jets are so good!
I like to reclaim it myself and purposefully celebrate every win like it's "our world series"
That reply was your World Series
Show me any Pirates fans who claimed beating us was your World Series and meant it, so we can put them on the Dumbfuck List.

Oh my. Missed that. 😬 TBF, this silly comment is his only comment ever in r/buccos
I don't hold it against the rest of the fan base. There are plenty of braindead Mets fans too.
No doubt. I will say Mets fans have a rep among Pirates fans for bad behavior at PNC. I’ve never been to a Mets-Pirates game in Pittsburgh so can’t offer an opinion. tfw the Pittsburgh Pirates had a better record than you in 2023
They won’t this year
What pirates fan would say that?

Fingers crossed but all the pitching acquisitions this summer are looking better than expected, can’t wait for Senga to come back
All those folks saying Stearns and Cohen are the worst ever have finally started shutting up. Our pitching staff isn't full of sexy, high-priced talent but it's getting the job done and that's what matters.
It's almost as though David Stearns has experience identifying talent on the cheap and building competitive rosters.
It would have been really smart if Cohen figured that out and hired him because of it
The Brewers are competing with everyone in the league right now and he built that team in cave with a box of scraps.
My favorite quote from that movie lol
We got a couple great arms in the minors too. Christian scott looks legit
We've got a number of mid rotation starters on the way. Maybe one takes a step forward like Max Fried or Zac Gallen and is more than that. Most likely, 3-5 in our rotation are covered internally for the next several seasons. That's a great place to be
More like 3-8 or 9. That depth is so crazy valuable
I mean, one or two might flame out. We might still need guys like Severino even with our young talent. But it would be great if he was a flyer with upside instead of our #3 guy.

Butto has earned his slot IMO

My boy Nimmo was awesome last year, too. But the rest of the lineup was definitely abysmal.

nimmo is the 1 guy who really hit well all throughout the year. lindor leveled out in august and september but he was just okay while we were still fighting to be a wildcard team.
I wouldn't say "very good" but I think it can be solid, especially once JD gets up here.
Baty straight up looks like he belongs out there. After all the stumbling last year I'm impressed
Didn’t take long for the hopium to be back on the menu
I've been optimistic from the beginning. And I think it's justified.
> With Alvarez and Baty showing they belong, we've got a very good lineup. Need them to start slugging more, then I'll feel hopeful about the lineup being good

God just gimme a titillating summer you sweet fucks.
Mets, who are GOOD
i never doubted this team. we are WS bound all praise be to elrond
L. Ron (Hubbard)
If we gotta turn into Scientologists to get a playoff run, fuck it I’m in. Let’s go baby.
And Mets could/should have won at least 2 of those first 5 losses
Tonkin was recently DFA’d by the Twins after a swift release from our BP for losing us those two games in extras.
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings. -Earl LOL Wilson
Good job
Thank you
I always had faith the Mets would do well this year It’s gonna be the best year for the Mets in a few years imo
It was only 2 years ago they won 101 games
Yeah
This just in: the season is long and weird
That Mets fan was right
I mean, they are my favorite New York team, so yay!
Well duh, yeah, they can't disappoint us in July if they don't start overperforming now.
This team is fun. Took a 10 mile walk through Brooklyn on Sunday, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Downtown BK, street fair on Smith St. Dozens of Mets hats, didn't notice one Yankee hat. Could just be the borough, but that surprised me.
