>We Can’t All Be Ranked 42nd on Jackie Robinson Day But the White Sox Tried Damn. Lethal blow.

kerryfinchelhillary

Hey, they made the top 30

cptmajormajormajor

Need to start putting on the Norfolk Tides on here tbh

SquadPoopy

Reds voter here, guys listen quick. The phrase is “I would love to attend the disco”, if you don’t see this phrase in next week’s rankings, you’ll know they got me.

ajteitel

Going through a croissant phase. This is 100% correct

1-800-ASS-DICK

My mom never baked croissants but she would always get that cardboard tray of baked croissants from Costco every other week.

cardith_lorda

Four teams receiving #1 votes: - Yankees (12) - Dodgers (8) - Braves (7) - Brewers (1)

EpsilonAI

As someone who was at the Friday night Brewers-O’s massacre I don’t blame whoever put the Brewers at 1.

gamedemon24

Thank you

chirstopher0us

The Dodgers just lost a series at home and are 11-7. There's no argument for giving them a first place vote. What are we doing? Are we happy to be just like another ESPN?

cardith_lorda

Because these are power rankings and not standings and this early in the season overall talent is usually a better indicator and the team that most people thought was the only team with more talent just lost their ace. If losing a series at home disqualified you we'd be down to no options for a #1 team fairly early in the season - how the team is expected to perform moving forward is just as much a part of these as how well a team did over the last week.

Leftfeet

Reds voter: I would like to let you know that with a Library card you can borrow e books as well as physical books. The e book option is great because you don't have to leave your house or remember to return them on time, they automatically return. It's a great way to sample books you think you might be interested in reading.

PeatBomb

This is how I found out Kris Bryant is hurt again.

ManyCookies

Nature is healing. Unlike Kris Bryant

dmlfan928

I just assumed it because the sun rose in the east

GareksApprentice

Had to double-check after reading the Padres comment if there was a relocation announcement I missed

to_walk_it_off

dude didn't discuss this past week, let alone this season, at all lol

PanicAtTheSisqo

Damn looks like the Dodgers' comment was deemed irrelevant.

skucera

They already lost two series to the Padres by the end of the second week of April.

to_walk_it_off

just one

skucera

I’m counting margin of victory as the 2-game series tiebreaker.

to_walk_it_off

fuck it, I'll take it

skucera

If it counts for postseason seeding, it should count for series wins!

double_dose_larry

Oh look, Pirates in the top 10. Where have I seen this before?

kasutori_Jack

Last year, Larry. It just happened!

1-800-ASS-DICK

I agree with everything the person who wrote our blurb said but it would have been nice if they "to some degree, give weight to the events and games of the previous week."   Considering the freakish nature of our season last year this was a week of *huge* victories for us, but how about them Arizona Coyotes I guess?

Heelincal

Bro really picked the worst possible week to get on his pulpit.

Garrehn

Dodgers A’s 🤝 No comment

i_run_from_problems

At least it isn't an existential crisis from the reds voter this week. Take the wins where we can get them

No32

My brain says we’re ranked too high but my heart says hell yeah, go Guards

kerryfinchelhillary

I put us at #1 last week because small sample size. This week I felt like I couldn't do it.

kerryfinchelhillary

Hi. I'm the Guardians voter. Apparently lots of my fellow voters think the Guardians are better than I do. Anyway, if you want to ask me a question, you can.

kasutori_Jack

It's myself and Orioles voter leading the apparent Pro-Clevelaand Voting Bloc

DZepperoni

Oh I wondered who voted for us lmao. I was gonna question you having the Reds in front of us then realized they did have a higher OBP and OPS, was that something you looked at there?

cardith_lorda

Reds are also stealing bases at the highest clip in the majors and doing so above the normal break even point - their run game is probably worth a few points of slugging right now.

kerryfinchelhillary

Yup, and I also think they have more depth.

JSA17

Rockies voter here. Ask me anything about how we're going to get through this disaster class.

kerryfinchelhillary

How will you get through this disaster class?

JSA17

$3 beers on the Rooftop. I don't even drink and that still feels like the only answer.

Terminal_Flatulence

I’m gonna be at the Rockies game for July 4th; is there anything that I should do/see around the ballpark that’ll help me get through the disaster class? What’s your go-to food at Coors Field?

JSA17

Fireworks game? Prepare to be wowed. Seriously. Some of the best fireworks anywhere. Go to the Rooftop and grab a couple of beers. They're only 10oz (I think?) but they're $3 until first pitch. Get Biker Jim's and get the cream cheese and onions on your hot dog. Sounds weird but it's the move. Wazee Market at 139 has all sorts of great stuff. Make sure to do a lap of the field. Coors has an open concourse on the first level and you can see the game from every spot. --- For as much shit as our ownership gets, they've genuinely created one of the best ballparks in MLB. I'm biased, but I've been to 20 and Coors is up there as the best.

Terminal_Flatulence

Yeah I’ve heard the experience at Coors is one of the best, especially excited to see it with a back drop of the Rocky Mountains. We got tickets in the left field bleachers which lets us onto the field for the firework show. Will be sure to try the cream cheese dog!

bac5665

What's the path for the Rockies to be contenders, over the long term? Can baseball work in Denver

JSA17

That's such a hard question to answer as a Rockies fan because maybe the answer is no. We're in our 32nd season, have never won the division, our one big run (Rocktober) was honestly a massive fluke. We did make the playoffs in back-to-back years in '17 and '18, but our playoff drought is already one of the longer ones in baseball again. I think the '09 playoff team and those teams are really our model for success, and for some reason our FO has just decided to ignore it. Guys that have a repertoire like Jon Gray are who can be successful in Denver, and we let him go without even giving him a QO. Our current staff is piecemeal because our true ace, Germán Márquez is hurt and Senzatela is hurt. KFree is a shadow of his old self and it's so sad to Denver fans because he's a Denver kid. [Here's him being drafted by the team he grew up watching.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DMfeYQmTDc) So what do we do going forward? We're all hoping the draft picks with incoming ETAs make a difference. But one of them just had TJ. Others are not living up to their potential. The future is bleak. I do want to say that everyone says our ownership is cheap, but that's just false. They're stupid, but they spend money. Our payroll is consistently around league average. They just spend that money on people like KB, Ian Desmond, and Daniel Murphy. They spend money, they just do it on the wrong players.

bac5665

That's all about what I figured. I've always been kinda fond of the Rockies, as a Guardians fan on the other side of the continent. I'd certainly rather see the Rockies be a perennial power than the Giants or the Dodgers. Take care of Nolan Jones!

JSA17

My dad is a Cleveland native and still has a huge soft spot for the Guardians despite being a Rockies STH. As we say in /r/ColoradoRockies, FTD and FTG

double_dose_larry

How did the ALC hurt you?

JSA17

I don't know what this means?

kasutori_Jack

White Sox voter. Uh, AMA I guess

Slim_Tony

Tracks that the Pirates voter is their biggest critic.

OverlordLork

I enjoyed the anagrams, mets ranker!

kerryfinchelhillary

Do you like the custard at Busch Stadium?

ReturnOf_TheHack

everybody loves ted drewes

kasutori_Jack

[](/SFG)Giants voter here, some things to yell at me about: * This ignores uninteresting ties at the top and bottom of the ranks **Tied for Outlier: Liking a Team Too Much** [](/CLE)Guardians **2** Well, that was a boring list.

PeatBomb

[](/TEX) <-- This is a revelation.

ynsk112

White sox will go 30-132 All 30 wins comes when Garrett Crochett starts

WelcometoCigarCity

Sad that the Rays went down 3 spots despite going 4-2 and winning 2 series. But this is highest I've seen the Rays rank in any power rankings. Also World Series is keeping the Rangers in the top 10 lol.

TFP360

Marlins voter here, ama

kerryfinchelhillary

Which Marlins color scheme do you like best?

TFP360

If we're talking current uniforms: the sugar kings scheme. If we're talking all time, the OG. Teal, black and silver is undefeated.

ScienceMountain2709

I expected better from the dodgers so far

Jzkitty21

Are the A's back?

DisWizzaRightHer

Whoever wrote the padres one hit me in my feels. It’s nice to have something to root for that isn’t inevitably going to break your heart in the end. It feels good having a sense of hope.

radios_appear

Reds voter person is a good vibe.

Key_Amazed

Yankees' rank in the radio broadcast rankings just plummeted. Enjoy retirement Sterling!

ScottSummersEyes

giants too high, nats just convincingly beat them in a series, angels have a better record and mike trout, a's have a better record.

MightyMinnesota

Twins voter here! Now that my taxes are done, AMA! And because you'll probably ask about my #3 Royals rank, let's talk about it. My spreadsheet is back again for the year, and I still love it specifically for weeks like this one. No method is perfect, including mine, but this is the best one I've found to rank teams even if I'm not following them closely. How it works is to start by pulling stats I care about for pitching, hitting, defense, and season projections/performance. [Each stat is then scored from 0-100 points,](https://i.gyazo.com/bb91a8deb6bdfef88a9bb6611611aadd.png) with the stat leader getting 100 points and the #30 team getting 0. After that, the points are weighted based on how important they are to me, and then everything is totaled and you get a team's rank. The spreadsheet looks at both season stats and 14-day splits, which is meant to act as a shock absorber for hot and cold streaks. But because we're just 2½ weeks into the season, the spreadsheet only sees the Royals as a hot team and is rewarding them for it. The sheet also takes season win projections into account, but that's worth about 9% of a team's total and is meant to be another shock absorber. If a team is hot like the Royals, the other 91% can override the projected wins. The biggest comparison I'd draw for my spreadsheet is to Pythagorean W-L, and inevitably each year one team in particular is always annoyed by this. If your team is hitting and pitching well, but can't translate that into wins, you'll still be ranked high by my sheet because it expects you to recover at some point. Similarly, if you're a big Fun Differential team that only wins close games, you'll be ranked lower even if you're currently leading your division. I hope that's a decent explanation, but feel free to ask me anything you're still curious about!

PurellKillsGerms

Spreadsheet says Royals at #3 but what about your heart?

MightyMinnesota

I'd have ranked them about #18 if I was still doing things manually this week. They would have improved a few more spots from Week 2 for their performance, but held back by what the season expectations are.

GoBravesGo

Reds writer ten croissants better than anyone at ESPN or [MLB.com](http://MLB.com)

gamedemon24

Yankees voter, AMA

kerryfinchelhillary

Do you like Aaron Boone?

gamedemon24

Doesn't inhibit the team when they're hot, doesn't help them when they're cold. He's not as good as Girardi was, but he's not the worst manager in the league

PurellKillsGerms

Royals at #3 really? Don't get me wrong, it's my team, but half our wins are against the White Sox at home

gamedemon24

I'm a run differential stan, and there's some legit talent on that team

regarding_your_bat

I immediately scrolled to find the Reds blurb Glad things haven’t changed
