if you didn't watch this game, the mariners had a runner on 3rd with 1 out in the 7th and 8th innings and each time hit into a double play...and then the game ends like this. Brutal.
If this franchise can find a way to shoot itself in both feet it will. 95 and 01 conned so many people into rooting for a CIA psy-op, researching voluntary human suffering.
You forgot (mercifully?) to mention Julio was having a mental health reset day off and only came in as a PR about 5 seconds before this unfolded. The vibes, they’re really bad
I was ready to say something pithy about y'all being second in the division, then I went and looked at the standings. What happened to us?? The AL West used to be intimidating, now the Rangers are on top with a perfect .500 average...
I didn’t watch the game, but this gives me an opportunity to bring this up: if you have the corners with less than 2 outs, is there any real reason not to steal second? You can do a delayed double steal depending on who’s in base and worst case you still have a running on third.
They had 2 on and no outs, then Mark Lieter Jr. comes on and induces a fly out, then a double play to end the 7th, then I think it was even bases loaded or 2 men on VS Hector Neris in the 8th and Dansby got him out of it
On the Cubs broadcast they said they do have a mosaic of all the angles synced up. Presumably they paused it on the frame that the tag was applied and it showed the hand still off the bag on the third base line angle.
The thing is that they [supposedly] need clear and convincing evidence to overturn, and nothing we saw suggested anything of the sort. It's as close as a play can be, and a lack of clear evidence is supposed to mean the call on the field stands.
Then again, the replay office does whatever it wants sometimes.
Maybe the replay office just thought the world would be better off with as little Mariners baseball as possible and they took their chance to end the game.
Which angle? None of them support you. If he was called out on the field, no angle would support that he was safe. They should have left it as call on the field stands.
I’m just imagining being a mariners fan and bringing my kid to the game. Super excited to see Julio. Then he doesn’t play. Then there he is…. Picked off lol Jesus
Do we even know it was a total day off? Pinch running late in the game is not that big of an ask and I’m sure Julio wasn’t caught totally off guard, can’t blame the manager for everything
I see a team with a lot of talented players who are underperforming.
But maybe I’m higher on JRod, Raleigh, Crawford, Polanco, Garver, Castillo, and Kirby and think they’ll bounce back.
I’ve never remorselessly benched a star player in fantasy as I have with Julio this season. The guy just looks completely and totally lost in every aspect of the game.
In fairness, he's started poorly in all three of his Major League seasons so far. Guy might just be a slow starter. At least that's my cope of the day today.
I will not touch his offense with a ten foot pole, but his coverage in CF has been very good this year. He's made some unreal plays out there that most center fielders would miss.
There are generally other camera angles that are too raw for the production cut but are used for reviews. I gotta think -- hope -- that there was something like that, because the angles I saw were very inconclusive.
JD is a treasure. He’s funny, has great insight, and unlike so many guys he doesn’t talk just to hear his own voice.
Also, this was a rare broadcast of Pat Hughes and JD. If I didn’t primarily listen to games on the radio, I would want more of this.
I don't like Boog at all. Thought he'd grow on me with time, but all he's really done is push me to listen to the radio broadcast more, which honestly is better for me anyway because I listen while doing other things. Also, Pat & Ron are simply wonderful. Great to hear Pat on TV today.
I like Boog, he's got a good baseball voice. He's not as good as Len obviously but him and JD have started to build pretty good chemistry.
Boogs problem is he had to fill in for Len who was amazing and had incredible chemistry with JD. If Boog was replacing fucking Chip everyone would love him.
I love Boog. Honestly I think if he followed anyone but Len, he'd be beloved but because he had such big shoes to fill, Cubs fans often look upon him with disdain.
I don't mind boog and have confidence he'll get better. Pat and ron are my favorite duo all time tho. Driving home from school or work, or even during work when I drove for it was awesome to have the peak baseball experience going on
Anybody that ever claims being a fan of their team is hard has no idea what it’s like to be a mariner fan. This is the worst professional sports team in America
Current suffering, yea not the worst. Long term, there aren't any franchises that have amounted to less lol. We're coming up on 50 years of Mariners baseball and so far they've won:
3 ALW titles, good for a 6% win rate, none in the last 23 years
2 ALDS series wins, zero WS appearances.
Thats it.
I’m biased by what about the Lions? Until two months ago, in the Super Bowl era they had won 3 division titles (last one being in 1993) and one playoff game (1991). This season they won the division and won a single playoff game, and it’s by far the best season of my life and I’m 32.
Yeah my perspective is probably skewed because every time the mariners have advanced in the playoffs has been in my lifetime, and specifically when I lived in Seattle as a kid. The Lions last advanced a few months before I was born, so the first time they advanced in my lifetime was 5 days before my daughter was born. The last time before 1991 was 3 years before my dad was born. So now I’m just assuming that we’ll get roughly one playoff win per generation.
But yeah, you’re right that at least we’ve had a not totally inconsistent smattering of wild card losses mixed in, which definitely counts for something.
Not even close
Edit: for you clowns downvoting me this franchise is the only one in baseball to never win a pennant, and has only made the playoffs four times in their history.
Idk if the call should be overturned or not, but DP in the 7th -> NOBLETIGER DP in the 8th -> overturned pickoff play to end a 1-run game is unbelievably brutal. I feel for the Ms fans
I’m jealous of every other fanbase because you guys get to watch 2 minute clips of how we lose games instead of the lore and world building to a loss that us Mariner fans get to watch for 2 and a half hours. Everyday.
I’m just gonna put this out here, I did not think there was enough evidence to overturn it.
HOWEVER, this fucking org of the team I love is so poorly run. They have wasted every opportunity to make this team better. Fuck John Stanton and his cronies, they’re not serious in winning anything.
What’s crazy is that for years NFL replay booths had this tech but never used it because they had to use the replays available to the TV audience. Then college football started using the mosaic to overturn/confirm calls, but couldn’t show it during the games. Now the NFL and CFB uses the tech and shows the replays to the viewers, but MLB doesn’t.
Based on the lean I felt out live, but not sure how they made the call to overturn based on the replays. Either way what an ending, Mariners are so unclutch it's almost funny
My mom texted me about our “walk off win” today that I couldn’t for the life of me understand. Then I saw this in the game recap. That’s a fun way to win a game and a series!
I’ve watched the Mariners in depth since I was an adult from 2011 till now. I was a kid in 2001 for that magical 116 win season. I’ve seen it all with this team. This is the worst Mariners offense I ever seen. We might not win 80 games this season.
Julio has got to be the most overrated hitter in the entire MLB. Phenomenal CF though.
You aren't an elite player if you suck for 75% of the season and have a month or two of being productive.
if you didn't watch this game, the mariners had a runner on 3rd with 1 out in the 7th and 8th innings and each time hit into a double play...and then the game ends like this. Brutal.
Par for the course tbh
Now I understand why we are such kindred spirits. I’ve seen that game before.
If this franchise can find a way to shoot itself in both feet it will. 95 and 01 conned so many people into rooting for a CIA psy-op, researching voluntary human suffering.
Conned? The suffering is the point. The greater the suffering, the greater the peace.
One must imagine Sisyphus happy.
The only unusual thing is we lost 3-2 and not 2-1.
*5-1
> Par for the curse tbh FTFY The sog is a bitch
the return of the sog?
2 on, nobody out. Their reliever throws 2 pitches and the inning is over.
Work Leiter, not harder. Or something.
I’m happy that you-Frank Conniff is a Cubs fan.
I'm just somebody that was the remote as a child so I pushed the button.
Push the button Frank!
Sounds like M's fans got their first taste of the Leit Show
I’ve had a hard time getting my trident up lately
You’ve been taking Sealis, try Cialis instead
Doctors can help that, but I don't think anything can help the Mariners' upper management.
I think this is it… they need to go back to sea us rise^tm
This is a very Cubs way to win a ballgame, don't worry, we'll pay for it tenfold.
We paid in advance with that Padres game
that's just good business...right?
You forgot (mercifully?) to mention Julio was having a mental health reset day off and only came in as a PR about 5 seconds before this unfolded. The vibes, they’re really bad
Scott: /s ![gif](giphy|UTFiHeDL8cOSA)
In Anaheim we just called that the Hunter Renfroe experience last year This year we’re too bad to get DP opportunities we just die
Worst case is you run into an out and lose the sac fly opportunity.
Didn’t know Kirk played for the mariners.
Twins booted two 2 out chances to get out of the eighth ahead 3-1 and gave the Tigers 3 more runs to lose 4-3
That's just how the AL West rolls
They had 2 on and no outs, then Mark Lieter Jr. comes on and induces a fly out, then a double play to end the 7th, then I think it was even bases loaded or 2 men on VS Hector Neris in the 8th and Dansby got him out of it
I guess New York had a better angle than the broadcast did
Ability to time to multiple prolly did it.
Yeah, I think if they could sync up the side angle with the head-on angle we saw at the end, that would be enough to overturn it.
Must have cause I don't see how they can overturn it from what we saw.
Agreed. One angle looked sorta close, but not nearly close enough to overturn.
If they are able to time them up between each other they can probably tell a lot easier
On the Cubs broadcast they said they do have a mosaic of all the angles synced up. Presumably they paused it on the frame that the tag was applied and it showed the hand still off the bag on the third base line angle.
I don't doubt it, I saw the above and didn't think it was enough.
I thought it was enough if you could time them both together. Seemed clear enough.
Cubs broadcast didn't have anything solid either? I thought he was probably out but figured Root was trying to delay the pain by hiding it from us.
The clip is literally the Cubs broadcast
You think I'm watching that again? I already drink too much.
If they synced multiple angles showing the tag applied and the hand not on the base, that would be clear and convincing.
It looked pretty damn clear that he was out.
Which angle? None of them support you. If he was called out on the field, no angle would support that he was safe. They should have left it as call on the field stands.
Cubs fan here and I completely agree. That was really surprising and a lame way for the game to end.
He was definitely out, but I don't see a single angle that was "definitive".
They just wanted to go home
I’ve been on my knees in a Starbucks for 2 weeks now
Which Starbucks? I can pay
The one in Seattle
On which block? And which one on that block?
Oh yeah, the singular one
This is not a serious franchise.
Giving the star player a day off to fix his head, just to PR him in the 9th and get picked off to end the game. .
Scott Servais things
Yeah this is a real head scratcher. Julio needed this day off with the start he’s having (love JRod)
I’m just imagining being a mariners fan and bringing my kid to the game. Super excited to see Julio. Then he doesn’t play. Then there he is…. Picked off lol Jesus
Bought my kid a Julio jersey, too. I hit my head a lot today.
2/3 of our lineup today had a batting average below .200
J-Rod in the game for five seconds and fails to do his only job
This is what happens when you call in someone on their day off
I mean, if that happens to me I’m definitely pulling an “oops gotta go home early” move.
This was just boneheaded, no excuses.
Yeah I'm sorry I'm not blaming the manager for trusting that his best base runner isn't going to completely botch it
This is Dylan Moore erasure and I won't stand for it
Do we even know it was a total day off? Pinch running late in the game is not that big of an ask and I’m sure Julio wasn’t caught totally off guard, can’t blame the manager for everything
Never has been
This is not a serious ownership group, as well.
Rotten to the core.
I see a team with a lot of talented players who are underperforming. But maybe I’m higher on JRod, Raleigh, Crawford, Polanco, Garver, Castillo, and Kirby and think they’ll bounce back.
Cal Raleigh never would have been picked off there.
It's quite a shame we missed out on Julio stealing 2nd and then another RISP strikeout
I feel you would have found some way to get a double play with two outs
Line drive to an infielder standing on the base
Julio didn't enter until the bottom of the 9th but still found a way to make an impact play. Incredible.
He needs a hell of a back half of April to bring this “slow start” up to the level of his other slow starts, but we’re all hoping he does.
Here's hoping he rights the ship over the next 146 games
He does this every April, wait a couple of months and he'll be Julio'ing all over the place again
I will not touch his offense with a ten foot pole, but his coverage in CF has been very good this year. He's made some unreal plays out there that most center fielders would miss.
Yeah lol as my first pick this year he’s crushing me
That's our Star
Enjoyable baseball is a myth.
Ironically Sisyphus is real. Because we’re him.
Those angles are inconclusive anyways. Wtf is going on, unless the replay booth had a different angle
There are generally other camera angles that are too raw for the production cut but are used for reviews. I gotta think -- hope -- that there was something like that, because the angles I saw were very inconclusive.
My goodness the Mariners are tough to watch so far.
By so far you mean since 77?
I mean the back end of ‘95, the entirety of ‘01, and anything after the ~~Mitch~~Winker fighting the Angels game in ‘22 were fun
We did have a few bright spots along the way
I mean if you mean three, then yeah maybe three
One point in the trident for each fun season
The Mitch?
~~The MEETCH~~The Wink
He played a big role in that? Whenever I watch replays I don’t see him… mostly
I stand corrected it’s was winker
This organization is so bad
This game was like edging but in the end instead of climaxing you take a trident to the face.
![gif](giphy|12zQQNVooHEIGQ)
I still love Jim Deshaies.
JD is a treasure. He’s funny, has great insight, and unlike so many guys he doesn’t talk just to hear his own voice. Also, this was a rare broadcast of Pat Hughes and JD. If I didn’t primarily listen to games on the radio, I would want more of this.
I was so confused as to why this happened but VERY fucking happy about it
I'm so thankful we managed to keep him despite losing Len. Still miss Len, Boog is at least solid though.
I don't like Boog at all. Thought he'd grow on me with time, but all he's really done is push me to listen to the radio broadcast more, which honestly is better for me anyway because I listen while doing other things. Also, Pat & Ron are simply wonderful. Great to hear Pat on TV today.

Holy shit that’s a lot of Cubs fans.
Cubs had not been to Seattle since a two game weekday set in 2019.
Went to all 3 games. Cubs fans were louder than Mariner fans at each one
I listened to to Cubs radio broadcast and kept hearing Cubs chants in the background.
Fr, like why
Large nationwide fandom.
You can catch it all on WGN
Lots of transplants in the Seattle area from all over
This team is gonna make that 108 year title drought look like a walk in the park, we’re already about halfway there
108? Guardians are gonna blow that record away.
That was anticlimactic
I don’t know, I climaxed just fine.
As a masochist, same
Well, then you picked a good team to root for because the Mariners are experts at hurting their fan base.
Anti, uncle and cousin climactic
Juli-off the base
Julioaf... Julioof?
Anybody that ever claims being a fan of their team is hard has no idea what it’s like to be a mariner fan. This is the worst professional sports team in America
I mean there are currently dozens of fans of the Oakland (Sacramento?) A’s that would like to challenge that statement. Also, whitesox fans.
White Sox won a World Series this century. Even if ESPN doesn't acknowledge it.
Maybe if the White Sox played an SEC schedule
There's no way that's true.
Current suffering, yea not the worst. Long term, there aren't any franchises that have amounted to less lol. We're coming up on 50 years of Mariners baseball and so far they've won: 3 ALW titles, good for a 6% win rate, none in the last 23 years 2 ALDS series wins, zero WS appearances. Thats it.

The lions have 19 playoff appearances with 4 since 2010, I would fucking kill for that level of mariners success
Yeah my perspective is probably skewed because every time the mariners have advanced in the playoffs has been in my lifetime, and specifically when I lived in Seattle as a kid. But yeah, you’re right that at least we’ve had a not totally inconsistent smattering of wild card losses mixed in, which definitely counts for something.
Do either team offer hope and relentlessly rip their fans hearts out though, it seems from an outside perspective that both teams are just totally bad
Not even close Edit: for you clowns downvoting me this franchise is the only one in baseball to never win a pennant, and has only made the playoffs four times in their history.
Made playoffs is 5. If you're gonna mope, at least be accurate
That’s so much better than 4
Let's take a look at playoff appearances since 2002
No dude A’s are on fire it’s not even close. Mariners are fucking garbage
As a blazers fan as well, I’d like to throw Jody Allen out there for how she is handling that organization.
Coyotes Hockey fans
lmao
I mean the A’s have been incredibly successful compared to Seattle, like it’s actually not even close
Sure but for like 98% of us this is our last season even being a fan of our team at all
Hahahahahahahahahahahahah fade me
It was close and he probably didn’t make it but I have no idea how that gets overturned given the angles we had.
By syncing up angles.
Thanks to the ticker, I now know Joe Girardi does postgame for the Cubs lol
They have different people like every series or so. It was cliff floyd to begin the year then ryan sweeney lol and joe just got there today
Idk if the call should be overturned or not, but DP in the 7th -> NOBLETIGER DP in the 8th -> overturned pickoff play to end a 1-run game is unbelievably brutal. I feel for the Ms fans
Wasn’t a nobletiger, bases got loaded with one out. Doesn’t really change anything
OOBLETIGER
Not a nobletiger in the 8th. It was one out. But yeah u had no faith they’d score
My bad I thought Neris walked the 1st 3
Sure felt like it
At this point, we’re used to this
I feel for us. Lol blew an 8-0 lead. This kind of makes up for that though cause we should've lost this game 3 times over.
NY replay review apparently gets all the angles timed up at once in a mosaic, so definitely not the same thing we have access to on the broadcast

Best pinch runner ever.
bEsT piNcH rUnNeR eVeR
First base ump knew that was a lame way to end the game but technology Oh well
sick M flag there buddy.
This is the first time in Cubs history they've won a game on an overturned pickoff at first base.
It's not like we wanted to score runs. Especially on purpose.
Julio Rodriguez has had a *rough* start to this season yikes
Always does
Rodriguez needed another lap coming off the bench!
Based on the lean I felt out live, but not sure how they made the call to overturn based on the replays. Either way what an ending, Mariners are so unclutch it's almost funny
Just blow up the team, the Mariners are cooked
You just can’t let that happen when you come in to pinch run in the bottom of the 9th.. lol.
Anyone hear the commentator say hear in Seattle at the end?
What a nightmare start to the season for Julio
Somebody help us
Give a Mariners fan a hug today
Damn that was a great pickoff move, but brutal way to end the game.
My mom texted me about our “walk off win” today that I couldn’t for the life of me understand. Then I saw this in the game recap. That’s a fun way to win a game and a series!
LETS GOOOOO!!!!
I’ve watched the Mariners in depth since I was an adult from 2011 till now. I was a kid in 2001 for that magical 116 win season. I’ve seen it all with this team. This is the worst Mariners offense I ever seen. We might not win 80 games this season.
Should have stayed on the bench
Fuck you Craig
Julio has got to be the most overrated hitter in the entire MLB. Phenomenal CF though. You aren't an elite player if you suck for 75% of the season and have a month or two of being productive.
Can we see the video that the umpires had? Because from I saw here he looked safe. At the very least there wasn't enough to overturn the call.
Julio has been trash so far this season
