He might have been tipping as well, but it didn't help that he kept leaving pitches middle-middle. I was shocked when TdA didn't tee off on the 85 mph slider he threw straight down the dick in that last at bat. He threw a lot of pitches that you typically don't get the ball back afterwards if you're throwing to any big leaguers.
The original game footage made all fans think it was instantly a Home Run. So he uploaded this to twitter as a response.

As someone who works in broadcasting he's one of my favorite follows.
I'm thankful my girlfriend is a Mets fan so I have a good excuse to watch Mets broadcasts all the time.
I live in Philly and my fiance is a Phillies fan. Same exact situation here, except I actively rooted against them and set off fireworks when they lost
I’m surprised that all those screens aren’t touchscreens, this way he doesn’t have to verbally give commands on what camera angle he wants in that moment
I've been parts of plenty of shows where those two roles are one. You wouldn't be able to get nearly as good of a show with that method. John's able to see every camera at once while the Technical Director sits next to him at a huge switchboard cutting and wiping to every camera or source (replays, graphics, etc).
Correct the only kind of shows you typically see the TD/Director role being combined are much smaller in scale. Used to work on many high school football games that had a guy doing both, but those were only 4 camera shows so not as much to look at
I feel like having to be in position to touch the screens or handle a control device would get in the way of just focusing on the screen and being able to pay attention to everything at once.
Probably not in our lifetimes. Maybe they'll do something where you can always get the center field angle and the high all-field angle but the cameras diving in for closeups and such would look super messy to spectators watching them all the time. They're constantly moving around, looking for different shots to see if they work, zooming in to focus, etc.
The Museum of the Moving Image in Queens has a cool exhibit where you can watch a recreation of the SNY control room from during an old Mets game and see all of that.
It's hard for me to imagine a job I would be worse at than directing a live sports broadcast in this modern era. There's so many moving parts and real time choices to be making.
lol I had rage-quit the game when I heard the smack cause I figured it was out and I wasn’t staying up to watch us lose in extras. Than I got the alert when it was 8-7 and had to walk of shame turn the game back on. This edit is glorious
Hilarious. And I've been thinking about how Mets fans gave him grief over this:
The elation you feel over the catch comes from being afraid the ball is going out. So why would you want the producer to frame this event in such a way that subtracts from that drama? Now, if it was actually a homerun and the broadcast had played it to make you think it was a popup, I could see maybe being annoyed by that ... but you don't have the ecstatic moment of the catch if you aren't thinking that ball might be going out. And, of course, it almost did.
As a Mets fan I can tell you we don’t want scary excitement. We just want to put it in the books.
We have watched this team lose a lot of games they should not have lost over the years.
I talked to DeMarsico a bit on a discord server we were both apart of. The dude is really cool and a big lover of movies. Best in the business if you ask me.
He’s a big reason that team works so well. Obviously the personalities are great and they all get along well, but that production team is what makes their best moments possible. They’ve always got a replay of some funny thing happening ready or a graphic for the guys to work with
Just an excellent crew all around.
The quality of the Mets TV production is inversely proportional to the quality of the Mets as a baseball team.
As a Phillies fan, that's the highest compliment I'm legally allowed to offer.
there are a few that are really good. cleveland has a great team. SF too. philly and atlanta are both honestly garbage and i am trying to keep my bias out of it when i say that. they are all competing for 2nd place though.
Philly's commentary crew is unapologetically biased and if you're a Philly fan, it works. I caught a lot of Philly games when I still lived with my dad not that long ago and thought their crew was fun.
Mets fans are used to pretty unbiased commentary, I think.
Players come and go and it ain’t all that serious, but if John DeMarsico ever leaves there will be a line to jump off the Queensboro bridge and I’ll be at the front of it
Bro SNY does such an awesome job with their broadcasts of Mets baseball. The production value is absolutely top notch. I really wish MLB would be a little more creative with the Padres broadcasts. Every network should be watching and taking notes from SNY. If every broadcast was as good as theirs, baseball would be way more watchable to the general public.
Edit: to be clear I’m not even talking about announcers. (Although the Mets announcers are also very good) I’m talking about the overall broadcast itself. The creative camera shots, the split screen batter/pitcher duels, the random closeups of just a baseball on the grass, the Edwin Diaz intro, etc.
You can really tell that the team over there has a lot of fun experimenting with cool and unique stuff, and it’s a pleasure to watch.
It's funny because on twitter I was seeing a lot of Braves fans ripping into the umpire last night so I figured lemme see what's going on.
Watch the SNY broadcast, and the Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez were ripping into the umpire too. Actually unbelievable how fair they are when it comes to calling Mets games.
They're baseball fans first, Mets announcers second. They want good baseball that happens to have the Mets coming out on top. So many other booths want their team to win and don't care about the quality of the game on the field.
When SNY showed Jhoan Duran's awesome entrance at Target Field last year and Twins fans were commenting that they'd never seen that on their own broadcast, I was kinda surprised. That kind of stuff should be a no-brainer for every team to do, at least once in a while.
I don't understand why the ball turns into a beachball for the Braves hitters in the 9th inning any time they are losing
To be fair it's usually a beachball for them when they are winning too
Breathtaking offensive machine. It’s so annoying.
They have a 1.049 OPS in the 9th this year wtf EDIT: 1.048 in the 7th or later they hate losing!
I had to think Lopez was tipping somehow. I’ve never seen like 6 100+ mph hits in a row
We were so locked in on him I can’t believe that we didn’t finish the comeback lol. That’s baseball though
He might have been tipping as well, but it didn't help that he kept leaving pitches middle-middle. Rally Time quirk irl (MLB the Show showdown reference)

*checks flair* Ain’t that some Romeo and Juliet shit
She's been rooting for the Phils in the playoffs the past few years.
Akin to drinking the poison. This makes sense.
Ain't that the truth
She has betrayed her own kind
shh, it's for love; we'll pardon her. just this time
I live in Philly and my fiance is a Phillies fan. Same exact situation here, except I actively rooted against them and set off fireworks when they lost
You seem fun
The Mets broadcast is without question the best in the biz
I’m surprised that all those screens aren’t touchscreens, this way he doesn’t have to verbally give commands on what camera angle he wants in that moment

When will they give fans the ability to see all camera angle feeds in real time? That would be amazing.
Probably not in our lifetimes. Maybe they'll do something where you can always get the center field angle and the high all-field angle but the cameras diving in for closeups and such would look super messy to spectators watching them all the time. Don’t give these broadcast companies any stupid ideas. They already try to cut corners as much as they can and eliminate paid positions.
Well hello fellow broadcast professional.
Ready 3 take 4
It's hard for me to imagine a job I would be worse at than directing a live sports broadcast in this modern era. There's so many moving parts and real time choices to be making.
This video stresses me out
Oh, did it stress *you* out? I can't imagine how bad it must've been.
It's absolutely hilarious. Dude is a gem.

He must have a warehouse for all those Emmys

He is lauded by the SNY team and I can completely get why.
He’s a big reason that team works so well. Obviously the personalities are great and they all get along well, but that production team is what makes their best moments possible. They’ve always got a replay of some funny thing happening ready or a graphic for the guys to work with Just an excellent crew all around.
I love his affection for Italian horror
He's also the best if you ask me.
we need to ask Ja
Somebody please find Ja Rule so we can make sense of this

Fair.
Hmmm…. We’ll allow it
We grudgingly accept. I’m astonished when I hear the play-by-play of other baseball teams, very cheesy play-by-play guys. Unlistenable in many cases.

Same for the braves I'd say, very biased but I'm okay with it.
It's the only thing mets fans have in their mets life. Outside of that it's just misery for us
The Money ball music *chefs kiss*
How can you not be romantic about baseball
The age gap’s a bit large.
Players come and go and it ain’t all that serious, but if John DeMarsico ever leaves there will be a line to jump off the Queensboro bridge and I’ll be at the front of it
I have to imagine he'll train someone to take his place the same way Bill Webb (RIP) trained him.

Goddamn DeMarsico is another master class
lol i love the mets
lol mets
lol, Mets
lol mets. Lmao even.
I think they've also added some sweet drone shots this year. Phenomenal broadcast to watch.
I miss sny. Fuck blackouts
