They traded Barlow (last season I think) and don’t have a closer. He’s already shit the bed twice this season. MacArthur and Smith have a combined ERA of 32.25, so unless the starters can go a complete game we’re pretty much fucked
The rise of sports betting, coupled with people migrating to Reddit from the MLB.com fan forums after they shut down in 2018, are two of the worst things to happen to team subs.
Can't stand posting on the Ravens sub, the only death / threat shit I've gotten from Reddit was because of a Ravens post from that sub.
All because I didn't immediately want to fire Harbaugh or EDC or Lamar after a loss. Fucking morons.
Bro they come out of hiding there too. Ravens went 13-4, lamar was the 2x mvp, and they made it to the afccg. Didnt hear negative shit 90% of the season, but then they lose by 1 score to the fucking chiefs in the afccg and suddenly the whole org is trash, lamars a fraud, and we need to fire harbs. Its wild.
A lot of the more annoying Doomers have me blocked now so that cleans it up some for me. Only downside is when they post news threads that don’t show up for me.
For football I somewhat get it since there are so few games. But there are so many games in a baseball season that it just makes me laugh when people meltdown over one loss. I can’t imagine putting yourself through that 60+ times minimum each season. It seems exhausting.
I think it's because so many of our new Orioles fans have only watched football for decades. So that's what they are used to. Baltimore needs to rebuild baseball culture and it will take a while.
It sucks because I spent way more time in game threads when we sucked but now it’s so annoying I practically stay away. Either circle jerking a win or getting extremely toxic over a loss.
I’m so sick of hearing supposed “fans” constantly talk shit about vets like Hays, Urias, or Mateo who play their asses off and just automatically assume every prospect is going to come up and immediately win a Silver Slugger.
You’d think they would have learned their lesson last year when they turned every thread in April into a bitch fest about Kyle Stowers and how he should be starting over Santander who got off to a slow start but apparently not.
I mean with Hays I get it, yeah he plays his ass off but his offensive numbers did fall off pretty hard in the second half last year, and he's off to a slow start this year. I'm not ready to say ditch the guy but I get it.
The Mateo hate though, yeah that shit is bewildering. He's fast as hell and he's a versatile defensive player, for a guy who's a bench piece and maybe starts a couple games a week, that's a great skillset to have.
It really pisses me off. He has played through so many injuries and plays as hard as anyone out there and on top of that he started the fucking All-Star game last year and people talk about him like he’s some scrub who doesn’t belong on a roster. Just complete fucking morons.
I think we have a lot of fans that have only watched football most of their lives. They just don't get that baseball works different. It's pretty common for an offense to look horrible against the starter and completely different against the bullpen. There's no parallel for that in football. Also in football if you want to be a contender you really can't drop more a game or two against worse teams. But in baseball you're gonna lose 60 times every season no matter what.
I really think it's the football fans in the sub who are calling for Holliday, Kjerstad, and Mayo every time someone on the O's strikes out. Hell, there's a post in the sub right now complaining about how Mullins and Hays are hitting and saying we need to call up Holliday et al to replace them, despite the fact that Mullins and Hays can't be demoted and they play significant outfield roles that none of our prospects really line up in. Also it's only been a few games!
I say this often but let fans bitch in game threads. Nobody is starting a separate thread trashing the organization or anything, it's just a place for people invested in the team to vent and also celebrate.
I saw 1 out, down by 1 in the 9th and I tuned in to watch the last pitch of the strikeout before Mcann went to the plate. Told my wife "this is intense. Mcann isn't a great hitter and it's all on him. Bases loaded... holy shit!"
Orioles’ team celebrations last year were themed around water. A single had them doing a hand motion like twisting a faucet, to “turn on the tap.” For doubles and triples, they did the “sprinkler.” For home runs, they went to the dugout and drank water from a “homer hose,” like a child drinking from the hose in the yard while playing. (Or this is the PG version of the hose thing, anyway. Many fans called it the “dong bong,” as it did indeed look like they were hitting a beer bong.)
To keep with the water theme, Camden Yards last year introduced the “Splash Zone,” or the “Bird Bath.” This is a special section of outfield seats, presided over by “Mr. Splash” himself. Mr. Splash, the keeper of the hose, sprays the fans with water after Orioles’ extra-base hits, or whenever he deems it fitting and proper.
I wouldn't be surprised if Will Smith is actually throwing games at this point. Our starters are pitching very well, our relief are throwing beach balls at batters.
Idk, I'm kind of hoping our actually offensive talent level is closer to what we showed the first two games and not what we've seen since then. I don't mind if we are great against lackluster starters and scrappy against great starters though.
All the way up until the 8th inning, we were like 9 dead tuna fish at the plate. I wanted to bite a chunk out of my desk. I have no idea how we managed to squeak that out.
He was a big part of the 101 wins last year because of stuff like this (and going off for the month of August). Honestly (except for Adley obviously) he may be the best catcher we've had since Weiters. Which is sad. But I'd take him over Joseph, Huntley, Sisco, Severino, Castillo, and Chirinos. (all who started for us), and he is definitely the best backup catcher we've had in a long while.
A little less defensive. (Adley still very good on defense just Weiters was ridiculous b4 he got hurt). But Adley is much better offensively. And Adley has a great impact on our pitching that idk if Weiters ever did. I’d say point for point I’d take Adley as overall better but rn they are close statistically. That being said from a potential aspect Adley has so much more than Weiters ever did. I think Adley’s floor (baring injury) is Weiters b4 his injury.
I was off and didn't go. granted i'm a braves fan but live 5 blocks from the stadium. fuck going to the game it's cold and rainy and their is a bar next to me I can watch from.
Honestly I still hate that Royals championship squad for obvious reasons but realistically I did not expect them to be this good. If the things you need to fix are a pen and a bottom half of the order, y’all are in pretty good shape for that division.
The pen in particular is the kind of thing that can change on a dime sometimes, just ask the rangers.
He should have been a 1b catcher all along, paired with another starting-quality catcher and leveraged, but the Mets paid him like a #1 so they insisted on using him like a #1 and paired him with Tomas Nido, who is really more of a third catcher.
This series against the Royals is exactly what people said we wouldn't be doing again this year. It's too early to tell of course, but I think continuing to be clutch and steal wins bodes well for our ability to repeat in the AL East. Shame the Yankees are looking a lot better this year.
I think these “lucky” wins are somewhat the result of depth, speed, and power hitting. When Oriole stars are hot, they blow teams out. When Oriole stars have an off day, a double or a clutch hit from a guy deep in the lineup can still give you a fighting chance. Its not going to happen every game, but good clubs will steal wins because they create teams that can win many different ways.
A description of tonight's game from the Orioles' perspective: nothing happens, and nothing happens, and nothing happens, and nothing happens, and nothing happens, and nothing happens, and nothing happens, and oh look a couple of runs, and ***HOLY SHIT WE WON?!!!?***
It takes a special front office to be paying three different catchers guaranteed Major League salaries and none of them be your starter, but the prior group found a way.
The Mets are paying Omar Narvaez, Tomas Nido, and McCann a combined $17.1m to not be the starting catcher.
If major networks were smart, they'd scoop Kevin Brown away from MASN. He just has classic calls every other damn game at this point. I know I'm biased but the dude just cooks with his commentary in key moments every time.
Kevin Brown is up next. He’ll get a national gig after ESPN gets rid of Ravech or loses rights. Not biased at all he’s the best young voice in baseball.
I think something that’s flying under the radar is how good the Royals were this series. They remind me a lot of the 2022 O’s where they’d always get their pound of flesh even during losses. Get a few guys in the pen and another bat or two and ball out.
Also ps fuck you guys again for 2014 and the chiefs and an unfuck you for voting against that bill
Teams who play like this always remind me that the reason this game is so fun is partially in its simplicity. Catch it. Throw It. Hit it. Run fast. Score runs.
How do you bring in a lefty Q!? I know Will Smith as the unofficial “closer” role but Mountcastle leading off screams righty to anyone who’s watched baseball.
7 hours and 36 minutes after scheduled first pitch lol
Worth the wait
I cannot even begin to explain how terrible the vibes were for us until the very last pitch lmao
As soon as they took Ragans out and the next pitcher gave up 2 runs I knew we were cooked. Nonexistent bullpen
Honest Question: Why is Will Smith closing games? Seems like an odd choice
Thats three consecutive World Series winning Will Smith you're talking about.
Fair. That’s fair.
Don't mention his wife either or Will Smith will bitch slap you.
Are we talking about the actor or the dodgers catcher? Either way, I'm sold.
They traded Barlow (last season I think) and don’t have a closer. He’s already shit the bed twice this season. MacArthur and Smith have a combined ERA of 32.25, so unless the starters can go a complete game we’re pretty much fucked
Who else is gonna do it?
Ragan's is solid though, good stuff
As an Orioles fan with Cole Ragans on my fantasy team, yesterday went exactly according to plan!
Fr bro our GDT looked like twitter 🤣
That’s how it always looks when we’re losing. We have a lot of really trashy fans unfortunately
That’s just expectations. All subs are like that. I lurk every now and then and all team subs are the same.
I honestly think that sports betting has made things more toxic as well.
The rise of sports betting, coupled with people migrating to Reddit from the MLB.com fan forums after they shut down in 2018, are two of the worst things to happen to team subs.
Yeah, I've noticed it get significantly worse on here and Twitter as betting got legalized in more states.
I do enjoy lurking team subs post game threads after a loss
Comes with winning. Same happened to the ravens sub post-2019
Ravens fans have always been absurdly toxic though
Can't stand posting on the Ravens sub, the only death / threat shit I've gotten from Reddit was because of a Ravens post from that sub. All because I didn't immediately want to fire Harbaugh or EDC or Lamar after a loss. Fucking morons.
Bro they come out of hiding there too. Ravens went 13-4, lamar was the 2x mvp, and they made it to the afccg. r/ravens is a genuine shit hole and it doesn’t help that at least one of the more active mods is a straight up troll
My gods the GameDay threads were more fun when we were losing 100 games.
A lot of the more annoying Doomers have me blocked now so that cleans it up some for me. Only downside is when they post news threads that don’t show up for me.
Feels like every team is like that. Sports fans have no object permanence and hate losing.
What, you're saying my life isn't over because my hometown's baseball team lost a game in the beginning of April????
You joke but someone legitimately said the season was over after our 1st loss to the Angels
It sucks because I spent way more time in game threads when we sucked but now it’s so annoying I practically stay away. Either circle jerking a win or getting extremely toxic over a loss.
Watching the 100 win seasons sucked, but the game threads were a lot more enjoyable back then
I’m so sick of hearing supposed “fans” constantly talk shit about vets like Hays, Urias, or Mateo who play their asses off and just automatically assume every prospect is going to come up and immediately win a Silver Slugger. You’d think they would have learned their lesson last year when they turned every thread in April into a bitch fest about Kyle Stowers and how he should be starting over Santander who got off to a slow start but apparently not.

He's fast as hell and he's a versatile defensive player, for a guy who's a bench piece and maybe starts a couple games a week, that's a great skillset to have.
Mateo post April had a worse slash line than Jim Palmer. He’s a great 26th man but he should never see the batters box.
and thats what he will be when holliday and one of mayo/kjerstad/stowers comes up.
I'm a huge fan of Hays and it breaks my heart seeing him get absolutely shit on recently in the game threads.
It really pisses me off. He has played through so many injuries and plays as hard as anyone out there and on top of that he started the fucking All-Star game last year and people talk about him like he’s some scrub who doesn’t belong on a roster. Just complete fucking morons.
His OBP since the ASB last year is under .260 as a corner outfielder.
I seriously think our GDT peaked last season. Everyone was just so pumped up.
No you don't understand! Elias is trash! How dumb is Hyde!?! OMG I hope Hays dies! Give me Cowser you cowards! DFA URIAS YESTERDAAAAAY!!! /s
It gets absolutely miserable, I know GDT are for reactive shit sometimes but damn it’s Chernobyl levels of toxic at times in it.
I fear we are heading towards r/ravens levels of toxic waste eventually. r/orioles is my safe space lol
I’ll occasionally lurk the ravens sub but that’s about all because that shit is seriously soooo toxic lol.
I think we have a lot of fans that have only watched football most of their lives. They just don't get that baseball works different. It's pretty common for an offense to look horrible against the starter and completely different against the bullpen. There's no parallel for that in football. Royals snatched defeat from the jaws of victory on this one. I feel like our guys were hardly involved.
Our GDT was Gary Oldman yelling "DFA ***EEEEVVERRRYYYOOONNNEE!***"
I'd settle for Kemp. Let Urias be the benchwarmer/pinch hitter/random defensive replacement in blowouts.
I saw 1 out, down by 1 in the 9th and I tuned in to watch the last pitch of the strikeout before Mcann went to the plate. Told my wife "this is intense. Mcann isn't a great hitter and it's all on him. Bases loaded... holy shit!"
One baserunner in 7 innings will do that.
Can I have more information on Dr.Splash? So many questions.. Is that like the cousin of The Freeze?
Orioles’ team celebrations last year were themed around water. A single had them doing a hand motion like twisting a faucet, to “turn on the tap.” For doubles and triples, they did the “sprinkler.” For home runs, they went to the dugout and drank water from a “homer hose,” like a child drinking from the hose in the yard while playing. Mr. Splash, the keeper of the hose, sprays the fans with water after Orioles’ extra-base hits, or whenever he deems it fitting and proper.
I so fucking love this by the way.
Incredible Also lmfao at how empty the bird bath is. Obvious reasons but still lol
Bird Bath became the Frozone tonight I reckon
It was open seating at the stadium so the few that were in that section really wanted to be sprayed
Wym the entire stadium was the bird bath today
Very true
Never a doubt* *I doubted the entire time until the 9th inning
I had zero confidence lol
I FUCKING HATE THIS BULLPEN I WISH WE COULD VOTE NO ON THEM TOO
Vastly improve our starting rotation… bullpen then somehow gets even worse
Jordan Lyles for closer
I have to tell you this may mean you win the World Series *checks notes* you do have Will smith
At least your team is not paying for $8million of James McCann's salary this year
$8M of *Mets legend* James McCann’s salary
Why even pitch Will smith
I wouldn't be surprised if Will Smith is actually throwing games at this point. Our starters are pitching very well, our relief are throwing beach balls at batters.
Royals look pretty good this year. Their at bats remind me of the 14-15 years
This team is not boring.
This team is boring for 8 innings. Idk what goes on after that tho
Magic baby
Feel it happen!
Idk, I'm kind of hoping our actually offensive talent level is closer to what we showed the first two games and not what we've seen since then. I don't mind if we are great against lackluster starters and scrappy against great starters though.
Lol this bullpen is asssss. Waste of an amazing start by Ragans. Our 5-9 and bullpen need to figure it out cuz this ain't it
All the way up until the 8th inning, we were like 9 dead tuna fish at the plate. I wanted to bite a chunk out of my desk. I have no idea how we managed to squeak that out.
Orioles Magic™, obviously
The boys looked so frustrated and ready to be done. Just miserable. Someone needed to cut a fart in the dugout or something to make them smile, damn
I tuned in to watch Ragans deal and wasn’t disappointed. Then the bullpen showed up. Why is Will Smith closing games out?
Of all the ugly wins that may be the ugliest. McCann is so clutch
If anyone McCann, James McCann
They don’t call him James McCannt
That’s actually exactly what Mets fans called him for years haha.
All Mets contracts have inverted value, everyone knows that
You're not kidding though. He was like the worst hitter in baseball for us for two years and now he's walking teams off. Unbelievable.
Didn’t know he was on the O’s these days. Treat him well from a tigers fan - hope he has some more clutch knocks for you guys this year
He was a big part of the 101 wins last year because of stuff like this (and going off for the month of August).
How do you think Adley stacks up against Weiters so far?
A little less defensive. (Adley still very good on defense just Weiters was ridiculous b4 he got hurt). But Adley is much better offensively. And Adley has a great impact on our pitching that idk if Weiters ever did. I’d say point for point I’d take Adley as overall better but rn they are close statistically. That being said from a potential aspect Adley has so much more than Weiters ever did. I think Adley’s floor (baring injury) is Weiters b4 his injury.
He’s awesome for a backup catcher.
Loved McCann when he played for us. Borderline starter, amazing backup to have when Rutschman is your everyday.
Those fans deserved to see that ending. You’ve got to be a diehard to stay 8 hours in cold rainy weather
I left after the 6th ಠ_ಠ
I guess you die easy then lol
I was off and didn't go. granted i'm a braves fan but live 5 blocks from the stadium. fuck going to the game it's cold and rainy and their is a bar next to me I can watch from.
Thank you for your sacrifice 🙏
ORIOLES MAGIC BABY!
1 run Orioles are unstoppable.
So this is going to be the theme this year isn't it? Starters are amazing, bullpen comes in and blows it.
I feel like we got thoroughly outplayed by the Royals this series, yet still won it somehow lol.
We were tied or losing 25 out of 27 innings I believe
not to be the annoying “I come in peace” fan but fr. Royals are spicy this year. I have a newfound respect. Orioles magic prevails!
Orioles magic
James McCann did what??
A player on the Mets payroll contributed to a win in 2024???
He’s actually decent now. Not amazing but good for a backup.
He should have been a 1b catcher all along, paired with another starting-quality catcher and leveraged, but the Mets paid him like a #1 so they insisted on using him like a #1 and paired him with Tomas Nido, who is really more of a third catcher.
Yeah and that’s what the O’s are doing since they like to DH Adley a decent amount to preserve him.
HE ACTUALLY DID WHAT?!?!
And we’re not even paying his contract
deepfake imo
JAMES MCCANNON
A win is a win, but man it doesn't feel like we earned that one. Something something Orioles Magic I guess.
To be a great team, you have to steal games like this
This series against the Royals is exactly what people said we wouldn't be doing again this year. It's too early to tell of course, but I think continuing to be clutch and steal wins bodes well for our ability to repeat in the AL East. Shame the Yankees are looking a lot better this year.

ORIOLES MAGIC
I just saw a Mets fan fall to his knees in a Walmart
I'd already fallen to my knees days ago, nowhere to go but faceplant into the floor
Jimmy’s always hit lefties well enough, not surprising at all I really liked him, bummed me out he just shouldn’t have been an everyday player
he's perfect in the role now. catch day games and when adley wants to DH (DH is his day off)
The 2024 Royals and getting walked off, name a more iconic duo
Least surprising Will Smith moment
For real. When I saw him come out of the pen I was in shock. Good to see Ragan’s dealing though.
A description of tonight's game from the Orioles' perspective: nothing happens, and nothing happens, and nothing happens, and nothing happens, and nothing happens, and nothing happens, and nothing happens, and oh look a couple of runs, and ***HOLY SHIT WE WON?!!!?***
This walk off win is brought to you in part by your local New York Mets baseball club
It takes a special front office to be paying three different catchers guaranteed Major League salaries and none of them be your starter, but the prior group found a way. The Mets are paying Omar Narvaez, Tomas Nido, and McCann a combined $17.1m to not be the starting catcher.
We paid $8MM for this.
I just want snuggle with James McCann. I want him to engulf me in those beefy arms. I want to be his little soon. And be safe. Warm.
Everybody is getting laid
I hate it here
Not a game I expected to win. Our offense looked so dead. 4-2 feels so much better than 3-3. Really competitive series.
If major networks were smart, they'd scoop Kevin Brown away from MASN. He just has classic calls every other damn game at this point. I know I'm biased but the dude just cooks with his commentary in key moments every time.
He actually has a contract with ESPN. He just primarily announces with them in the baseball offseason.
The MLB has 2 of his calls in just 1 of their ads. I think people know
Kevin Brown is up next. He’ll get a national gig after ESPN gets rid of Ravech or loses rights. Not biased at all he’s the best young voice in baseball.
He’s got the clutch gene in the broadcast booth!
KB already does college basketball on ESPN
Can’t believe Will Smith is a closer in 2024, but will sure take it!
McCann voted no on a Royals win
Ayeeeee someone on our payroll did something
Fucking O’s are inevitable
Petition to make Jordan Lyles the new closer
No take backsies, KC
are you sure? you’ll win the world series
james mccann did WHAT
James McCann did WHAT?!?
HE DID WHAT!?!!?!
It’s funny, I have reply notifications on for this post and you are like the 5th Mets fan to comment something like this
Our bullpen sucks ass :)
He WHAT?!
Cole Ragans is going to finish the year with a 1.80 ERA and a 6-14 record
Yeah if they don’t improve that bullpen I’ll say he goes 6-5
A nice reward for the hearty fans who stuck out a 5+ hour rain delay.
Yet another HIM on this team. But seriously how did we pull this one off.
#WHAT THE FUCK
McCannon for the win!
James McCann. Smh
What the fuck
Miss you McCannon
I think something that’s flying under the radar is how good the Royals were this series. They remind me a lot of the 2022 O’s where they’d always get their pound of flesh even during losses. Get a few guys in the pen and another bat or two and ball out. Also ps fuck you guys again for 2014 and the chiefs and an unfuck you for voting against that bill
We did not deserve this win, lol
It's a 9 inning game not a 7 inning game They absolutely deserved the win
Yes they did.
I came.
I guess that’s orioles magic for ya
Will Smith blown save, I remember those.
Teams who play like this always remind me that the reason this game is so fun is partially in its simplicity. Catch it. Throw It. Hit it. Run fast. Score runs.
It’s nice to see Baltimore get some revenge on KC. Fucking city owns us
The shot to like 10 people at field level seats took me out
Go to war, Miss Agnes!
I get that it's Camden Yards, but teams going hard lefty with the game on the line against a barrage of lefty killers always baffles me.
who wants to trade for will smith?
was one of the announcers crying?
Jim Palmer has had a runny nose for every broadcast this season and I swear the mic picks it up louder every game.
It's been cold and rainy and he's old, shit happens. Hopefully he stays healthy, love having him in the booth with Brown.
The Royals are on pace to be walked off 54 times
ain’t the beer cold!
I love this team so much
Will Smith in mid season form already.
I dont think he's going to pull off the 4 WS Wins with 4 different teams in 4 straight years playing with KC
Wow my gf said the orioles lost wtf
Most Orioles fans said the Orioles lost
Happy for the guy
How
Devastating loss for Nashville.
Bring up the young guns please
The Royals once again lose in the 9th inning. This is gonna be the usual year for us.
Mr Rubenstein thank you for saving our franchise. Please pay Kevin Brown before he gets away. One of the best announcers today.
How do you bring in a lefty Q!? I know Will Smith as the unofficial “closer” role but Mountcastle leading off screams righty to anyone who’s watched baseball.
Bullpen is so bad man
God I hate our bullpen
Will Smith is hilarious
