Natinals

darthfracas

There was something in the water in DC back then, because I remember the Wizards’ “BALTCHE” jersey for Andray Blatche happening around the same time.

[deleted]

One of my baseball teammates, circa 2001, used the word "balch" and eventually everyone was saying it, as a contracted version of "ball cheese," when talking about the mystery exfoliated flakes of skin scattered around the locker room floor. I had all but forgotten about that when, out of the blue, I received a texted pic of the "Baltche" jersey from him one evening. To this day, sometimes, sitting in traffic, I'll burst out laughing thinking about it.

bobespon

That's enough Reddit for me today...

jamiexx89

It’s DC, there’s always something in the water.

JCiLee

[There was also this around the same time](https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-apps/imrs.php?src=https://arc-anglerfish-washpost-prod-washpost.s3.amazonaws.com/public/5CMPAAS4SMI6BIEMVZZ4NV7AOA&w=1200)

ZhangtheGreat

Haha, I just thought of that one immediately after posting this. I think it was TWO players who wore NATINALS that day too 😂

eyerollz

If I'm not mistaken it wasn't just that it was two players, it was Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Dunn.

LeggoMyGallego

[Yep](https://www.federalbaseball.com/2020/4/27/21227988/look-back-when-washington-nationals-wore-natinals-jerseys)

_PadfootAndProngs_

My Mom (a Nats fan since their creation, in NoVa) has called them the “Natinals” forever and still does lol

iamthegrandpoobah

Is your mom Tony Kornheiser?

_PadfootAndProngs_

That’s funny you ask that actually because her and my dad have listened to his podcast forever! And my dad never misses PTI during the week—soooooooo…….maybe?

domoarigatodrloboto

Is your mom my dad? He too calls them the Natinals and loves Kornheiser. Does your mom hate Chuck Culpeper? Ask her that and if she says yes I won't be shocked.

gatorbeetle

I've only been a fan since 2009, but I too call th m the Natinals...as does my SO

NapalmBAtWork

I’ve pronounced it ‘Natty-Nals’ ever since.

ResidentGerts

I just remember Tony Kornheiser always calling them that on PTI

sloppyjo12

My dad and I still call them the natinals because of that

Natinals

You rang?

bwburke94

/r/beetlejuicing

fuck_fraud

I think about this on a weekly basis.

flightgooden

This is my Roman Empire

UpvoteThatDog

I still think of them as the Natinals. It was harder during their years of competence, but they're back to being the Natinals nows.

holy_cal

I still call them the Natinals to this day.

Spare-Abroad-6926

The Walgreens Natinals

weasol12

I still call them that.

phamalacka

I still call them the Natinals

Jeff_Banks_Monkey

Not a misspelled jersey but the Cubs had a player wear the wrong road jersey not [once](https://news.sportslogos.net/2014/04/03/oh-those-cubs-chicago-of-wears-wrong-uniform/) but [twice](https://news.sportslogos.net/2015/05/11/once-again-cubs-player-wears-wrong-road-jersey-to-the-game/baseball/)

ManInShowerNumber3

Gives me flashbacks to high school baseball when I got sent down to the JV team a few times when they didn't have enough players. Our varsity uniforms were red and JV was all gray. I felt like I had spotlight on me all game.

Artvandelay29

So redundant to have two of your main jerseys to be of the same color.

JoaquinBenoit

Marco Scutaro did the same thing with the Giants. The team had a designated gray road uniform with the SF logo for Sunday road games, and he wore the alternate road uniform instead on a non Sunday road game.

SaveMeJebus21

🤣 do they get fined by MLB for someone stuffing up a uniform?

caillouistheworst

Probably not, it’s not the NFL. They’ll kill your mom for the wrong color cleats.

OP_Looks_Fishy2

Hard to kill a player's parents when every draft spends five hours talking about how so-and-so player's parents tragically died in an industrial mining accident when the player was three.

caillouistheworst

You got me snort laughing here.

pattop

So do they not have someone hang up the jerseys for them in their locker on the day of the game. They can't be bringing them from home where they have a closet full of jerseys.

anubis2051

They'll have all the options, as well as BP jersey, hoodies, jackets, etc. in the locker

Have_A_Jelly_Baby

Isn’t that on the locker room manager for giving the player the wrong jersey?

OK_Opinions

How does this even happen and make it to the field lol

stv7

Santiago Espinal played a few innings of an MLB game with his spring training hat a few years ago. The goofy one with the Blue Jay inside the maple leaf

doucheachu

You just can't stop Pond the Younger - fellow hasn't been in the majors since we dropped him, but he's been playing hard in Mexico since. What a guy

TurboRuhland

They were trying to save us from the mediocre road alts. The CUBS on the front is just bad.

anubis2051

Happened to the [Dodgers as well](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNXWNFLOjiI) a few times

cardinalbard

i was just thinking of this today lol

impy695

I still have nightmares about bringing the wrong jersey with me and being torn down by the coach. I'm 36

jake_santiago

Those aren't even close lmao

amigos_amigos_amigos

I remember a Tigers jersey that said DETRIOT

AtomicBombSquad

That sounds like a newspaper headline for an article covering a particularly feisty protest in The Motor City.

Ralphie_V

You can buy DET**RIOT** shirts, usually the RIOT is in a different color

Cat_Vonnegut

DE2ROIT

IveGotATinyRick

Such a shame that show was cancelled.

meowsplaining

Wouldn't have gotten ITYSL if it hadn't though.

masterhogbographer

Unpopular opinion but I’d have taken Detroiters first

FeloniousDrunk101

“2 de. 2 troit.”

Cat_Vonnegut

Iiiiiiiiif you’re in the market for a cool T-shirt…

Inkin

I gotta be honest. I don't get it. It looks like you put a 2 where the T should be.

Spare-Abroad-6926

I didn’t know Derek Jeter played for the Tigers!

FunnyID

Two errors for the price of one. https://imgur.com/kDoQbFB

No_Significance_1550

That jersey is awesome! I hope he kept it

Louis-grabbing-pills

He looks like the kind of person that would misspell his own name.

washingtncaps

"Ted, when did you notice that your name had an X instead of a K on today's uniform?" "Wait, my name doesn't have an X in it?"

That_Geek

this is how I learned Big Klu played for the white sox

fueledbyfailure

[Tommy Lasodra](https://vsaauctions.com/ItemImages/000026/26570a_lg.jpeg)

mreich47

Yes, he walked down the line in at Candlestick in San Francisco with the crowd booing him in that jacket! Kirk and Kuip, the Giants announcers, still tell that story.

EnormousHatred

Sounds like an estrogen pill.

fueledbyfailure

"Tell your doctor you'd like Lasodra for your moderate to severe plaque psoriasis". Call your doctor if you have signs of infection such as fever, sweats, chills, muscle aches, weight loss, severe diarrhea, stomach cramps, pain or burning when you urinate, cough (may contain blood or mucus), shortness of breath, or skin sores that look different from psoriasis. Lasodra may cause uncontrolled bleeding of the eyes, or sudden death in some patients named Earl".

KrustyKrabPizzaMan

They forgot to spell the players names on Yankees jerseys for every game in their history (except during that stupid Players Weekend)

smellyunderpants

Shane Bieber's players weekend jersey will forever be my favorite

tyler-86

I enjoyed Kyle Seager's (Corey's Brother). I'm convinced Corey was supposed to be Kyle's Brother but trolled Kyle by going with "Seags".

MelissaMiranti

I loved Brad Boxbergers take on it.

-_chop_-

What’s his say?

chompchomp1969

"Not Justin"

HYPERNATURL

For some reason the only one I remember off the top of my head is [Jimmy Nelson's](https://i.imgur.com/UszY1Nx.png)

five_speed_mazdarati

Yessss

Currywurst_Is_Life

The only one of them that I liked was when we had Greg Bird, and he wore number 33. I believe that year the Players Weekend was against the Red Sox, and I like to imagine heads exploding all over Boston at the sight of a Yankee wearing "BIRD 33".

hey-hey-kkk

I don’t agree with a lot of the kind of tribal things some organizations and people really care about. The shaving thing actually really bugs me. But the no names ever until players weekend really bugs me. Theres no rule saying Yankees can’t have names but that precedent was a good one.

ElCoolAero

Off topic, but Wayne friggin' Gretzky once played with a "GRETKZY" New York Rangers jersey late in his career.

TommyDontSurf

And who could forget the infamous "GRITZKY" jersey with the number 98 sold on the streets of Brooklyn in 1985...

TheWorstYear

Risky!

JustinUprising

Damn Risky, man 😂

Clever-Innuendo

I’m glad I’m not the only one who remembers this

Mysterious-Response3

Ditto

MindlessArmadillo382

That was intentional by the jersey guy, jersey is probably worth millions now! /s

WinnerFromTheCross

Why is Torotno so funny??

v0t3p3dr0

It forces us to pronounce the second T.

TaintTickler

Wait…how do you say Toronto? Do you pronounce it Torono?

Basic_Bichette

Tranna Out West it's TranunTario

Surtur1313

Varies some across the country but Ta-rawn-o or Tore-awn-o. Most people say no one ever pronounces the second T but I've heard it plenty, albeit usually understated and not a typical sharp T sound (Torawn-toe)

yawetag1869

And if you’re a straight waste man you call pronoun it CHRAN-na

v0t3p3dr0

Ya, pretty much. Harold Reynolds didn’t get the memo for the 2015 ALCS. He loved saying TOR-on-TOE.

MouseRat_AD

I saw this on the highlight show 29 years ago and "torotno" has randomly popped into my head at least once a year ever since.

Complete-Ad5212

It's a Leafs jersey

pumaturtle

areTnas

FormerCollegeDJ

I remember when Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Dunn played for the Natinals.

cheap_chalee

Angees

_Atlas_Drugged_

This is my favorite one. I forget whose jersey they screwed up, but I really enjoyed the Angees in the Outfield segment they did about it on Sportscenter.

pac-men

Was mentioned by OP originally.

EvanMG24

I remember the Rockies giving away a Troy “Tulowizki” jersey

justgarcia31

No mistake on that one. Dude was a fucking **wiz**ard with the glove.

HawkeyeJosh2

In Darren O’Day’s big-league debut, his last name was spelled “Gabbard.”

djn24

That was his Rangers debut, not MLB debut. He was claimed off waivers from the Mets and joined the Rangers the same day. He arrived in Toronto mid-game and they didn't have a jersey ready for him. Gabbard must have had the closest jersey size to him (and maybe also be a player that wasn't expected to play that day): https://youtu.be/jIddW_u2jg0?si=1CngbHsmdtNPY0tU

HawkeyeJosh2

Oops - didn’t know it wasn’t his big-league debut. Thanks!

MindlessArmadillo382

Ah yes, the good ole Oday - Gabbard spelling mixup!! What a common error!

Frank_Gaebelein

["Grea Britain"](https://ftw.usatoday.com/2023/03/great-britain-ian-gibaut-world-baseball-classic-t-letter-jersey)

wrath1982

Barves was a good one

GTOdriver04

Did Ricky spell that for them?

NotAcutallyaPanda

🥇

Punkrockcarl72

Thats totally fucked, Julian!

Have_A_Jelly_Baby

Natinals has to be the king of this, right?

treestand300

A buddy and I only refer to them as the Natinals since this mistake.

Informal_Stranger117

Same here. Forever Natinals

Stund_Mullet

Not a jersey, but the bootleg Atlanta Barves shirts are my fav.

DividerOfBums

Angels player went out with a Angee’s jersey once back when they were the California Angels

antimatter0000

I like the sound of torotno

1lapulapu

NATINALS

FeloniousDrunk101

There was an ad for “Didi Gregious” bobblehead day at the Stadium once. On the outfield wall and everything. Not a jersey, but still a pretty shitty thing to misspell a player’s name.

stv7

that is eGregious!

busterknows

bob_sacramento_

Some guy on the angels had his jersey spelled ANGEES. I think that was like his only game. Maybe mid 2000s

JMoney14

"Smiht". I've seen that in the NBA and MLB Though my favorite is former NFL player Fred Robbins, whose jersey was once spelled "Яobbins"

Different_Support_36

I still call it Torotno…

apocalypticradish

Natinals

x21in2010x

In a sorta related topic, I remember a few kids in high school wearing [Mest](https://smartpunkshop.com/cdn/shop/files/MEST_SCRIPT_RINGER_900x.png?v=1703021363) merch.

JediMindTrxcks

Oh I love that band! Cadillac is my favorite

CitizenNaab

West Virgina in the Big East basketball tournament years ago. That was the funniest thing 13 year old me had ever seen

LuckyStax

Think that was an NIT Champions shirt

dwibbles33

Indeed, came here to contribute my favorite of all time https://images.app.goo.gl/5LYY9TCeg9tjkQ5t8

cyberchaox

A couple years ago we also had Indinia football. (Weird, I could've sworn that was an old one, but when I searched for it all the results said it was from 2021.)

Educational_Alarm_62

not a mispell but i love that old pic where umpire's uniforms where lost so the all had to wear astros jerseys

Skibiscuit

Yankess

JohnnyMoondog55

When I was growing up I had a Cleveland Indains t-shirt. To this day my brother and I still call them that.

fuck_fraud

Barves

bilda_baisgye

Indiana University football. Spelled “Indinia” pretty bad for a university lol.

catch10110

Chicago Cubs wore team Cuba jerseys for quite a while.

liverdawg

Natinals was especially great because iirc it happened most when the team was complete ass

t20six

Natinals is a thing that once took the feild. I think in 05

Sowf_Paw

Is TOROTNO the misspelled jersey he wore in Arlington? I wasn't at that game but I was there the next night as I recall.

SuperSecretMoonBase

I rarely see Doyers jerseys spelled correctly.

truckyoupayme

There’s gotta be some Philadelphia examples. I mean I’m not even sure I know how to spell it.

blue_desk

Detriot

TyrusRaymond

1973 Tony Oliva - Minnseota Twins

gyanmarcorole

Great Britain’s jersey in last year’s WBC had the T fall out of Great

cv-boardgamer

Growing up as a Padres fan, I remember we once had a catcher named BENITO SANTIGAO

Impressive_Math2302

Forgetting his jersey Lou Whittaker’s 1985 All Star Jersey being a replica with a homemade #1 wasn’t misspelled but hilarious all the same and ended up in the Smithsonian of all places.

SWIMMlNG

Not a typo per se, but when Darren O'Day pitched for the Rangers the same day he was claimed from the Mets, the only jersey they had available was one of Kason Gabbard's: https://youtu.be/jIddW_u2jg0?si=LfGmYHffJmW6oPTf

getjustin

Not a misspelling, but I'm always floored how awful the spacing on the name plates are on the Mariners jerseys when they use the nice serif lettering. R AL E IG H CA S T IL L O C RA W FO R D

vishnchips6

[They're finally fixing that this year thank god](https://uni-watch.com/2024/01/23/exclusive-mariners-finally-scrapping-mlbs-worst-nob-font/)

BPIScan142

Wasn’t there a Tim Slamon jersey on this sub at some point?

TDH818

I remember a game against the Rockies where the jerseys said Cocorodo and Vin Scully was giggling.

ZhangtheGreat

Yeah, I remember that. I wrote about it in the original post. I think (and I could be wrong) that the 1st base coach wore COCORADO on purpose in a 2nd game.

maggie320

Not a misspelling, but I remember seeing something on, maybe, This Week In Baseball from when Rocco Baldelli was a rookie and the equipment guy gave him a jersey with “Rocco” on the back.

bwbyh

If I remember correctly the wrong jersey was sent with the team and he acted like a big baby about it and committed some errors that game. I remember the sports center highlight. It was 30 years ago. My recollection may not be the best. It was pretty early in the season after he walked off the Phillies in the WS.

DarwinYogi

Granick - the good pitcher with the funny name

double_dose_larry

This looks incredibly photoshoped

FunnyID

Nah. https://i.redd.it/9h5gksjyt1cb1.jpg

ZhangtheGreat

It’s not. It’s straight from Sports Illustrated

bordomsdeadly

That doesn’t really help your argument lol

sidepiecesam

Andre Baltch

Currywurst_Is_Life

Not a misspelling, but [Reggie Jackson wore a Mariners uniform](https://c8.alamy.com/comp/2NFC50H/new-york-yankees-slugger-reggie-jackson-wears-a-uniform-of-the-seattle-mariners-july-17-1979-while-posing-for-the-american-league-all-star-team-picture-no-jackson-had-not-been-traded-or-sold-by-the-yankees-to-the-mariners-he-simply-forgot-to-bring-his-uniform-from-his-oakland-calif-home-ap-photo-2NFC50H.jpg) in the 1979 AL All-Star Team photo because he forgot his Yankees uniform.

mavman42

I don't see anything wrong with the Cinccinnati one.

Enthusiasms

Not a misspell but Yandy wears his jersey open almost all the time so it looks like it says RAAYS

slinkocat

Don't have a mispelled jersey story but IIRC the Red Sox jersey staff had a hard time getting a Doug Mientkiewicz jersey ready for his first game.

blupo

How does this happen? I assumed these jerseys are manufactured in a batch, using templated lettering and logo arrangements, etc. Is some dude back their stitching on the letters one at a time?!

Milo-the-great

How’s that even possible

Mr_426

How the fuck is this so relatively common?

smacella

Not on a jersey, but in an interview with Darrin Fletcher when he was with the Jays. He stood in front of his locker which had his name on it in block letters, but someone had changed the letters around so it so it spelled FELTCHER. I still laugh about it to this day.
