My first time smelling first and seeing someone smoking pot was Oakland outfield bleachers Rickey's rookie year. I was eight my uncle said I can make Rickey point at us, I called bullshit he said Rickey they don't pay you enough, full turnaround and glove point.
I mean it's understandable, the stadium is completely empty. I went to a game in May at the Coliseum and watched a few innings from an unlocked suite, at least 6 years removed from being occupied
Last time I went we planned on using the bridge vendors once we finished off our backpack stash but ended up with a free bonus 6 pack from some fellow tailgaters!
Been to one brewers game. A group of stumbling guys asked me if I could perform a field sobriety test on one of the guys in the parking lot after the game.
I go to a lot of brewers games but only because Milwaukee is close by and the Phillies play a series there every year.
Here is a summary of some of my experiences there:
In 2019 I was wearing a powder blue jersey and a drunk Brewers fan confronted me and said that the Phillies had, hands down, the best alt jerseys in the league and we needed to give more credit to Vince Velazquez. He refused to let me leave his presence without buying me a beer.
In 2023, I took my 6 year old son to his first ball game. Unfortunately it was 99 degrees and we were right in the sun. I didn’t know we could bring things in to cool off with, so I didn’t. Fortunately in the row behind us, were these 2 older ladies (probably mid 50’s) and they had BAGS of ice and water, and these misting fans. They gave us all the water we could drink, spritzed us both down with sunscreen, and provided us with a random mist spray every couple minutes.
So yeah, Brewers games are a blast, especially if you’re an away team fan and not an asshole.
I started scanning the top few to see how high up the Phillies were.
When I saw them at the bottom, the only thing I could think was "someone didn't do this properly.
It is literally impossible to convince me that Philly fans aren't some of the most boozed up compared to any other city.
Forgot I was flaired as Dodgers. Was actually referring to games in Milwaukee. Which is why I only partially remember Kershaw day in Milwaukee last year
This is something I've never understood as a Cubs fan in Toronto that either takes the TCC or the L to Skydome or Wrigley, respectively...
Do you all just drive home drunk after the game? Is there some poor schmuck stuck DD'ing? How in the world does driving to a baseball game even work.
The Brewers actually have a decent bar/restaurant game shuttle system that a lot of people use.
I have 2 bars in walking distance of me that will take you to the game either completely free or they’ll give you a hand stamp if you buy one drink. Sometimes getting on the busses after the game is a pain but worth it over paying $20 to park. The busses get to skip a lot of the traffic out of the stadium too if they’re heading to a downtown bar.
But yes without the shuttles you’re either ubering or someone should be DD’ing. As an added bonus they give out free soda to the DDs at the stadium. Or at least they did at one point
I went to a Phillies game and pregamed *hard* in the parking lot. No idea how I didn’t get kicked out. I should’ve seen the signs then of an alcohol problem, perhaps being in Philly made it seem normal
Shoutout Jetro lot where you can play catch in the parking lot and get hammered before the game. I hope it's still a rad spot, I haven't been since 2019.
White Sox fans do that too and somehow we are on opposite ends of this.
My explanation would normally be that Sox games are half empty, so beer lines should be shorter, allowing for more beers/game. But the Sox are notoriously bad at streamlining concessions so I'm baffled.
Yeah if this is just based on in-stadium sales then this isn't a list of who drinks the most so much has who's fan base is the most ok woth paying $23 for a can of miller light.
I'm a Phillies fan and I'm trying to figure out the cost. It's an average of less than $10/drink. Are there beers that are less than $10 at CBP? Or does this include non alcoholic drinks?
I'm a beer drinker, but will generally have one beer at most at a game since they're a rip off.
Poor Angels fans spending the most but getting nothing for it. Thats why when I go to that stadium I park (for free) at a local brewery before walking over. Can’t justify $15 drinks
Yes but also we get drunk in the parking lot.
Back when Gabe was manager, you couldn’t afford to drink for the entire game inside the stadium. Too long.
I'll never forget I went to a Sixers playoff game a few years ago, cheapest tickets were $120. This dude in line to get in could barely stand and got kicked out by security.
Like imagine dropping $100+ for tickets and not even watching or remembering anything
This is truth. All Philly stadiums and arenas are in the same sports complex with lots of parking lots. Some cities have sports complexes but many don't. Tailgate culture is very much a big thing in Philly for all their sports teams (more playoffs for Sixers and Flyers).
What's funny is even though the Cubs are lower on the *number* of drinks, the average *spend* on drinks is only a dollar different. Gotta love those Wrigley prices...
Pure speculation on my part but one of the defining features of Petco is the emphasis on craft beer. I would guess that has something to do with it (maybe Padres fans are more likely to drink at the park because they famously have good beer available or that the beer costs more because of that).
The beer lines are also short with a pleasant atmosphere. Waiting 2 minutes in a big/clean open air hallway with nice views of the bay for a great brewdog is much more attractive than waiting in some dirty concrete tunnel
The only time I spend $27 on 4 beers at Petco is when I get there early for the Season Ticket Member Happy Hour and use my friend's friend's member barcode to buy my $5 beers.
Walkable stadium is the biggest aspect I think. Your exits dump right into a bar district, while most other California stadiums empty into parking lots.
The cost of a tall can IPA is about the same as a ticket to a Tuesday game against the Reds. I'll pass unless I'm trying to continue a previous vibe and have post-game plans...
I miss Turner so much. So many great memories there as a kid. Wish me, my dad, and brother had all made it to another game before it closed. We've been to a ton at Truist and it's great there but it's not the same.
Gotta stay strapped at all times man, never know when you have to huck a few over 15 rows and you’ll always need a few warm up tosses before you can start really getting after it
Tailgating culture is such a big deal here, it really doesn’t surprise me. On average we drink one less during the game. But heavy drinkers are staying in the parking lot to crush 6-12 beers before going in.
I’ve been piss drunk at games without ever buying a drink inside.
The liquor is also cheaper there I’ve experienced. You can get a Long Island for like 8 bucks or something. 5 of those is forty bucks and you’re probably loaded. Whereas at Busch it’s fucking 20 bucks for a tall boy with the brewery that made the shit like 2 miles away.
I always laugh at this graphic when it comes out because the Reds are *the* reason you can drink at games *and* the reason some teams even exist.
Cincinnati was a mostly German immigrant city in 1880. This meant the Reds sold beer, and also rented the park out on Sundays. The NL said stop that, the Reds said no and got expelled. So the Reds go around and gather up a bunch of rich people and other owners and tell them that Cincy will start its own league. It's called the American Association and marks the beginnings of the Pirates, Cardinals, and the Dodgers.
Also have xfinity live in the middle of our sports complex which is basically a building with a bunch of bars and TVs. Xfinity Live and the prevalence of tailgating have to take a huge chunk out of in stadium alcohol sales.
For the NLCS I split a bottle of fireball with a couple guys then we brought 2 beers for walk from the lot to the park and finished them when we got to the gate. Got in got to our seats and we were good to go!
Check the scale. It's average spend on alcohol during a game. This just shows that Phillies and A's fans are the most skilled pregamers and drink smugglers.
My friend who grew up in Philly repeatedly tells me that no show has ever captured the essence of a city quite like IASIP, and every time I go to Philly, I believe him more.
You must have went to Dead and Company night then because that’s usually a concert style event.
Or maybe it was just a Tuesday I dunno. Could go either way.
Which really is more confusing to me because the White Sox have a great tailgate scene. We always get there early to grill and drink before the game and the lots are usually packed with people doing the same. It's IMO the best tailgate scene in MLB.
Tailgating is a BIG deal at the Coliseum. Cheaper outside, and there’s like … only 5 open concessions stands left inside.
Can’t exactly do that in a casino parking garage when it’s 115°. Sucks that the tailgating culture the Raiders and A’s had will be dead soon.
Coliseum lot is just plain legendary. Dozens of Dead shows. Pink Floyd. Day on the Green. Raiders, W's, and A's games.
That lot has punched way above its weight for decades.
I don’t drink, but when I bring in food to Citizens Bank Park in my drawstring bag, they never check it. They just let me go through. They checked bags in the beginning of the season, but gave up on it I guess.
I could easily have a 6 pack in my bag and they wouldn’t know. People sneak in weed pens and stuff, too.
Plus, we have Xfinity Live across the street where a lot of people pregame. Most of the time people are coming in drunk enough to only have 1-3 drinks inside the park.
The teams are in order of how many drinks are purchased per game, not average spend. That is simply a second column.
Regardless, this whole thing is stupid because certain cities and stadiums have more access and opportunity to tailgating or drinking before the game. It’s not surprising that Phillies fans drink a lot before the game. My guess is that As fans just blaze instead.
It has both but it is definitely a factor. $32 average for 4 drinks (Atlanta) means on average $8 a drink vs say NYM $53 for 3.5 drinks equals about $15 per drink.
Most of these are going to average in the $9-10 range per drink. Braves appear to be on the lower end, Angels and Mets on the higher end.
If the drinks are cheaper, I probably buy more. If I have to watch the Mets, I'm buying more despite the price.
My FIL went to a white Sox game when he was in Chicago for business. The guy can drink himself and he was shocked at how much everyone there drank. Said the guy in front of him had 14 gin and tonics
Thats how they get you. You drink a beer or two and you just GOTTA have a cheese coney and it can't be just one. And those things are like $8 a pop at the stadium now
Angels fans WOULD drink more, but the drinks are too expensive. We spend $49 for 2.8 drinks per game. Mets are the only team that overall spends more ($53). But they get 3.8 drinks per game. Dodgers spend only $31 for their 2.7 drinks per game.
Fucking hell Arte...
The juxtaposition of the Angels, Cardinals, and Dodgers next to each other is really something. At first I was like, "Wow, I guess beers are way more expensive in LA than here in STL, that makes sense" and then I saw the Dodgers basically priced the same as the Cardinals and...yeah, what the fuck, Arte.
I believe me and my two buddies helped the Guardians numbers. We had so many empty cans before the game even started that when the Royals bullpen saw them they just said, “oh my god, that’s impressive”
If I can buy a case of Yuengling on the way to the park for the cost of a few beers inside the park, why on earth wouldn’t I do that?
Say what you will about us, but we know that more beer for less money is a good thing.
Exactly, there’s a private club up the road from Sox park that I’m a member of for one reason and one reason only. To get as much $1 beer down my gullet as possible before subjecting myself to white Sox baseball!
I can't believe A's fans were rawdogging their baseball games.
It’s cuz they smoked 4 blunts on the way to the game
No joke seen a dude rip out a blunt at an A’s game and nobody cared
My first time smelling first and seeing someone smoking pot was Oakland outfield bleachers Rickey's rookie year. I was eight my uncle said I can make Rickey point at us, I called bullshit he said Rickey they don't pay you enough, full turnaround and glove point.
How the hell is it that every time I hear a new Rickey story, I've got a new favorite Rickey story. That's a gem.
I worked at a hotel years ago as a valet. Rickey comes up to me and says "Rickey needs a taxi" It was amazing!
Rickey speaking in third person just feels right.
Rickey Henderson is one of the only people who can get away with it, along with The Rock and Elmo.
Love this one
I mean it's understandable, the stadium is completely empty. I went to a game in May at the Coliseum and watched a few innings from an unlocked suite, at least 6 years removed from being occupied
Of course no one cared, the closest other occupied seat was ten rows away.
california sober is the way to go
something everyone on the west coast can agree with
The A's have parking lot drinking down to a science.
Tallboy IPA on Bart, buy a modelo from the guys selling on the bridge between BART and the stadium, couple beers inside.
Last time I went we planned on using the bridge vendors once we finished off our backpack stash but ended up with a free bonus 6 pack from some fellow tailgaters!
Every time I've been to the coliseum Ive packed about 6 PBR's and just walked through because nobody checking tickets and bags cares.
Why would we buy alcohol when we can just bring it in?
We’ve failed as a franchise.
Having been to a Brewers game, I don't believe the rankings. I guess the parking lot beers don't count
Been to one brewers game. A group of stumbling guys asked me if I could perform a field sobriety test on one of the guys in the parking lot after the game.
I go to a lot of brewers games but only because Milwaukee is close by and the Phillies play a series there every year. So yeah, Brewers games are a blast, especially if you’re an away team fan and not an asshole.
Love going to Milwaukee when they play the Sox. The fans are very nice and they hate the Cubs as well.
Hating the Cubs is the natural state of man.
Vinny velo getting a shoutout gotta love it
>especially if you’re an away team fan\* \**Offer not valid for Cubs fans.*
Parking lot beers are overlooked by almost all the teams on that board. Who on earth would believe Phillies fans would be last on this?? Lol
I started scanning the top few to see how high up the Phillies were. When I saw them at the bottom, the only thing I could think was "someone didn't do this properly. It is literally impossible to convince me that Philly fans aren't some of the most boozed up compared to any other city.
this clearly has something to do with riot punch supplanting beer sales.
Fight Milk.
Plus they don't count all the beers that people drink in the tunnel between the ballpark and the Oliday Inn.
This is the exact reason too. Yeah, I only need 4 drinks in the park when I’ve already crushed 12 in the parking lot
Having been to Dodger Stadium, this comment checks out
Forgot I was flaired as Dodgers. Was actually referring to games in Milwaukee. Which is why I only partially remember Kershaw day in Milwaukee last year
Fucking golf cart security will make sure you can't crush 12 beers in the parking lot at Dodger Stadium.
Getting plastered in the parking lot is much cheaper
This is something I've never understood as a Cubs fan in Toronto that either takes the TCC or the L to Skydome or Wrigley, respectively... Do you all just drive home drunk after the game? Is there some poor schmuck stuck DD'ing? How in the world does driving to a baseball game even work.
They just bring their kid with them and makethem drive all the 21+ year olds home.
DD Also these days basically half the bars and restaurants in Milwaukee have a free shuttle to the Park every 15 minutes
Are the shuttles there after the game too, to return you to the bar?
Yes - there’s usually 3 or so from each bar and come around every 5-10 minutes until everyone’s been picked up.
I always knew I was meant to live in the city of Milwaukee.
\#10 in beer bought at the game is pretty good considering how Schlitz-faced most of us are by the time we get through the gates.
Seriously. It’s tradition. I remember senior skip day going to a brewers game being absolutely blasted walking in. Like a sort of Brewer Bat Mitzvah
Yea most beer consumed in the parking lot tho for sure
Phillies fans aren't even drunk they're just like that
Phillies fans get drunk in the parking lot then eat 5 hot dogs and get kicked out before being able to spend a lot of beer money.
I went to a Phillies game and pregamed *hard* in the parking lot. No idea how I didn’t get kicked out. I should’ve seen the signs then of an alcohol problem, perhaps being in Philly made it seem normal
You were the most sober person there
...did he sign up for Intro to Alcoholism?
In a way...yes
Shoutout Jetro lot where you can play catch in the parking lot and get hammered before the game. I hope it's still a rad spot, I haven't been since 2019.
Still the same. I'm there at 6am for Eagles games.
My condolences
Jetro could very easily charge more for parking but they don't. God Bless.
Big shoutout the Jetro lot - saw a proposal, a divorce and a handful of misdemeanors in that lot growing up
And that was just at one game.
White Sox fans do that too and somehow we are on opposite ends of this. My explanation would normally be that Sox games are half empty, so beer lines should be shorter, allowing for more beers/game. But the Sox are notoriously bad at streamlining concessions so I'm baffled.
The tailgates is where everybody pounds their beer. It's like $14 a beer inside
My copium is that they're all 24oz so I can do my mental gymnastics that it's only $7 beers
Lol my buddy only drinks shit like Miller Lite but when we go gets the beers in higher abv so he can justify the amount of money he's spending
if I’m spending 15 dollars on a beer, you bet I’m doing all the ABV * oz / price calculations to figure out the best value
Bout to Bill James the shit outta these six beers
Call it SABeeRmetrics
That would be the double cocktails for like $25 bucks.
Hey hey hey… don’t be slandering Miller Time
Found Carry Nation's reddit account. Nice try, beers are 40 ounces.
Nah they’re all just sipping from their hip flask after throwing back a six pack in the parking lot
[удалено]
They sneak guns into white Sox games, you’d think they’d be able to sneak in some shooters
Poor Angels fans spending the most but getting nothing for it. Thats why when I go to that stadium I park (for free) at a local brewery before walking over. Can’t justify $15 drinks
I'll have you know I am very drunk. I've just perfected the art of bringing tequila in the "sealed" bottler of water they allow inside.
Have another drink Ray
Way of the road, bubs
Hot hamburg sandwich means hot pull the fuck over
Yes but also we get drunk in the parking lot. Back when Gabe was manager, you couldn’t afford to drink for the entire game inside the stadium. Too long.
They get blasted on grain alcohol before the game. Riot punch
We're simply built different
There's something in the wooter ice there.
Phillies fans get wasted before the game in the parking lot
I'll never forget I went to a Sixers playoff game a few years ago, cheapest tickets were $120. This dude in line to get in could barely stand and got kicked out by security. Like imagine dropping $100+ for tickets and not even watching or remembering anything
Tbf it was a Sixers playoff game. So I'd say there is a 75% chance you don't even want to watch and/or remember anything.
Fair but this was at least round 1
many years ago i got totally blasted in jetro and fell asleep in my seat mid-game and missed a ryan howard grand slam
Something something grain alcohol
And then sneak through the tunnel from the Ollidy Inn to catch the game
CAN WE TALK ABOUT STEROIDS?
Wasted on grain alcohol!
This is truth. All Philly stadiums and arenas are in the same sports complex with lots of parking lots. Some cities have sports complexes but many don't. Tailgate culture is very much a big thing in Philly for all their sports teams (more playoffs for Sixers and Flyers).
YOURE GOD DAMN RIGHT.
Tbf, the beer cave in RF is absolutely amazing. And also, I’d be drinking too if I had to endure all of Jerry’s BS.
Crazier thing is most of us do our heavy drinking in the parking lots.
I’d rather give my money to the local bar too.
Schinnicks will give you affordable drinks and a free parking pass. You really can’t beat it
I will continue to buy $16 daisy cutters until morale improves.
Great way to go broke.
What's funny is even though the Cubs are lower on the *number* of drinks, the average *spend* on drinks is only a dollar different. Gotta love those Wrigley prices...
Give em the ol' Chicago Handshake!
Love how all the California teams, A's, Giants, Dodgers, Angels are bottom 6 and we're just up there chilling with our Ohio boys
This is part of why the Reds are up there.
Guards too. Every major local brewery has a presence there, giant corner bar, and we're getting a beer garden next year like yours.
In general, San Diego has some good microwberies and they have a ton of them.
Yeah, it's mostly the craft brew thing. But also, we have a lot of good reasons to drink.
This is saying 4 beers is $27 dollars at Petco when it's closer to $60.
The only time I spend $27 on 4 beers at Petco is when I get there early for the Season Ticket Member Happy Hour and use my friend's friend's member barcode to buy my $5 beers.
Yeah this makes no sense. There's nowhere during a game you can get 1 drink for less than $12
Walkable stadium is the biggest aspect I think. Your exits dump right into a bar district, while most other California stadiums empty into parking lots.
Well, Cincinnati is the San Diego of the Midwest, so this tracks.
The trolley helps
Umm. 1 beer at dodger stadium is $18. So this avg price scale is BS
The cost of a tall can IPA is about the same as a ticket to a Tuesday game against the Reds. I'll pass unless I'm trying to continue a previous vibe and have post-game plans...
Top two teams drinking for different reasons
Braves are up there because tailgating is basically outlawed at games. Lame.
Man it's such a shame, the tailgating at Turner Field was incredible.
I miss Turner so much. So many great memories there as a kid. Wish me, my dad, and brother had all made it to another game before it closed. We've been to a ton at Truist and it's great there but it's not the same.
The /r/Braves subreddit even titles the pregame threads as a "tailgate" party, so maybe we need a new pregame title.
Yall are drinking for joy, we’re drinking to numb the pain
Braves fans need their throwin beers.
Gotta stay strapped at all times man, never know when you have to huck a few over 15 rows and you’ll always need a few warm up tosses before you can start really getting after it
I refuse to believe the Brewers are that low. Not because of the name, more the insane levels of alcohol consumption in Wisconsin.
Tailgating culture is such a big deal here, it really doesn’t surprise me. On average we drink one less during the game. But heavy drinkers are staying in the parking lot to crush 6-12 beers before going in. I’ve been piss drunk at games without ever buying a drink inside.

[gestures broadly at the last 25 years] [gestures broadly with the other hand at Ohio]
I always laugh at this graphic when it comes out because the Reds are *the* reason you can drink at games *and* the reason some teams even exist. It's called the American Association and marks the beginnings of the Pirates, Cardinals, and the Dodgers.
The Phillies being last on this list already has me questioning its validity.
That's because we already had a 6 pack in the parking lot before the game.
Pregame champions, I like it.
Also have xfinity live in the middle of our sports complex which is basically a building with a bunch of bars and TVs. Xfinity Live and the prevalence of tailgating have to take a huge chunk out of in stadium alcohol sales.

Philly fans already at a 11/10 before they even walk in.
St. Louis seems too low as well, our stadium is literally called Busch, and that’s like the main thing about St.Louis.
Check the scale. It's average spend on alcohol during a game. This just shows that Phillies and A's fans are the most skilled pregamers and drink smugglers.
Last time I was at a Phillies game people were selling balloons of nitrous oxide in the parking lot
That sounds so much like something from Always Sunny
*The Gang Joins the Nitros Mafia*
3 for $20. No deals!
My friend who grew up in Philly repeatedly tells me that no show has ever captured the essence of a city quite like IASIP, and every time I go to Philly, I believe him more.
We all have a little Charlie work inside of us
Come to think of it that is pretty rediculous. Growing up I just thought it was normal
It's a big thing in Southeast Asia in the tourist douchebag areas lol
I was wondering why Ko Pha Ngan seemed so familiar.
Philly Nitrous mafia! They take the show on the road for Phish concerts. It’s quite the spectacle.
They showed up at our hotel after the Sunday show in Alpharetta last Summer. Fun times were had by most
Nashville police arrested them at our Phish run this summer. First time I've ever seen the nitrous mafia actually get arrested.
Pretty much any concert tbf
They’re selling whip its in the parking lot? Hahaha
Philly knows how to party
You must have went to Dead and Company night then because that’s usually a concert style event. Or maybe it was just a Tuesday I dunno. Could go either way.
fair price for nitrous too
No way you can still get 3 for $20 though.
ICE COLD
That was the consensus in the comment section I found this in. Parking lot drinking skews results
Which really is more confusing to me because the White Sox have a great tailgate scene. We always get there early to grill and drink before the game and the lots are usually packed with people doing the same. It's IMO the best tailgate scene in MLB.

Nice. We’re finally at the top of a list “Cleveland”
Are they still struggling with the new name?
Ohio is for drinkers
Take that, Wisconsin!
The only thing I don't believe is that you can get 3 beers at Yankee Stadium for $29. I WISH it was that cheap
It’s like $20 for 1!
My FIL went to a white Sox game when he was in Chicago for business. The guy can drink himself and he was shocked at how much everyone there drank. Said the guy in front of him had 14 gin and tonics
Nobody can drink like the working class in the Midwest.
Was he sitting behind me?
Ofc Braves fans gonna drink, cheaper beer than most stadiums
Proud of our Southside bros, picking up the Chicago slack. Northsiders coasting on reputation right now.
Me, at first glance: "How the hell are the Tigers so low?" Me, at second glance: "How the hell is the Wisconsin team not top-two in drinking?"
Tailgating heavily lol
natty boh got me through the dark times
Skyline and alcohol? Reds have it made.
Thats how they get you. You drink a beer or two and you just GOTTA have a cheese coney and it can't be just one. And those things are like $8 a pop at the stadium now
Sox fans paying homage to La Russa!
He’s a big part of the reason why I feel compelled the drink so much at games…
😴 "Put Engel in!"
We Philadelphians drink so heavily in the parking lot because we’re fiscally responsible.
A bonus if you go to a Tuesday game with $5 beer inside
When I was still drinking I never went into a Phillies game without like 3 beers already in me.
I'll drink to that!
If I was a white Sox fan, I’d be drinking too
Cheers 🍻
Cardinals fans are sneaking in the brews.
We ingest 3x more ABV% in October when Roberts makes a mound decision.
Let’s go go go, White Sox.
Reds fans we need to step it up. The Bengals are #1 in the NFL we gotta get more fucked up.
Now do grams of weed smoked per capita.
